Video Transcript for Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at the Ultra Fab Ultra Scissor Jack. For a two-pack the part number is UF48-979002, and for just one, part number is UF48-979006. They're going to stabilize our camper, keep it from moving around. It's not so important, really, during the day. You don't want a lot of movement in your camper, of course, during the day, but as people start to go to sleep, other people stay up a little bit later. As you're getting in and out, you can really disturb that.

Your camper is going to move back and forth. Any movement in the front of the camper, we're going to feel in the back of the camper.By using a properly working set of stabilizer jacks, we can eliminate a lot of that movement. We're going to take a look at the tire intersection. That's the best area where we can see some movement. I'm going to walk around in the camper before.

We'll get our jacks installed, walk about in it after. I think we'll see a pretty big difference. All right. We'll start just by walking in the camper and, remember, no stabilizer jacks, at this point. You can see that movement and that shake. As we get inside, walk towards the back of the camper, or towards the front of the camper, you really see there's quite a bit of movement.

Now to lower our stabilizer down we need a three-quarter inch socket. This is the speed handle, or the crank, that comes with the two pack. If you get just the single, it's not going to come with the handle, so you'll have to reuse your old one. But, if you're just buying one, you're probably replacing one. If you're buying a couple, you might be adding them on, so I think that's a good solution. Now, this is going to go on.

It's a three-quarter inch socket, like we said. You can use a regular three-quarter inch socket, or we do have an adapter for a power drill, that part number is UF48-979005. You just want to crank and, you see, that's going to deploy. Now what we like to do is get all of these to where they'll go down and make contact with the ground. Then we'll raise them up about a half inch to an inch. We're not using these, I need to be very clear, to level our camper. These are just for stabilization, so you want your camper to be level. Then we can take these down so they make contact with the ground. All right. There, we made contact. We'll do that with our three others. Once we have those deployed, I'm going to take, basically, the same path I did before through the camper. You'll see what a difference it makes. We are up the steps inside, moving towards the back, back up towards the front. I can tell you inside it feels much more solid. You don't feel the camper shifting side-to-side as you move around. Now, overall, you can see how our scissor jack is going to work. As we turn our screw, it draws our two endpoints closer together. That's going to cause that expansion. Now the screw is a good heavy-duty screw. It's got good threads on it. You can see it's got the yellow zinc coating. The two nuts, essentially, they're like a barrel nut. You've got one here and one here, also have that yellow zinc coating on it. It comes pre-lubricated. You got some grease on it, there. As long as you maintain that, from time-to-time, this should work for you for a very long time to come. You got good steel construction. I wouldn't call it the heaviest duty steel in the world, but definitely adequate for the job we're asking it to do. Then they've coated that with a black powder coat finish, just to help prevent any rust, corrosion, things like that. Now I like the larger foot plate that we have on this stabilizer compared to some of the other ones. Some of them can be small. It's going to be four and a half inches from the front to the back, and then from outside to outside, we're looking at nine inches.I think this is going to do a really good job on most surfaces, with the exception of some really soft surfaces, soft or loose dirt, or sand, of course, or even mud. You might want to put something underneath it to dissipate it a little bit bigger, but outside of those few instances, which are probably not going to be camping on anyway, these should do a really good job. Now, as far as the attachment point to our camper, you can see our plate, here. This is going to be three and a half inches wide. And, overall, from the end, here, to the opposite end, we're looking at about seven and a quarter inches. Now each of our stabilizers gives us a 6500 pound capacity. So if you're using a two-pack, of course, that's going to be 13000. That's a little bit higher than what you see out of some of the other scissor jacks out there, so I like that. I like that it's a little bit beefier and it's going to do a good job of getting everything stabilized. But, again, keep in mind, these aren't for leveling your camper, just for stabilizing it.Now this jack offers 24 inches of total travel. From your mounting surface to the ground, you want to ensure that your distance is not greater than that. If it is, you'll want to go with one of the 30-inch setups. When this is fully retracted, we have it all the way up, it's going to come down, from the frame, or from our mounting point of our camper, by about four and three-quarters of an inch. We get a lot of benefit out of it, and it doesn't take up a whole lot of room. Now when we compare this to some of the other stabilizers out there, I notice that this screw diameter seems to be a little bit larger. I think it's a little bit more robust. The overall feel of it is very, very similar. The thing I do like about it, lifetime warranty, so if anything goes wrong with any of the working mechanisms, here, you can easily get that replaced at no cost to you.The Ultra Fab Jacks tend to get very good reviews. It's like Gene S. says, "The quality is great and they fit right where the previous jacks fit. The travel trailer feels more stable with the new jacks and I can now get a little help when minor leveling is required. I should have done this right away, not after coming back from a 7000 mile trip."Now, your stabilizer jacks are connected to your frame. You can see, here, in this setup, they're using three self-tapping screws on each side. The great news is, these brackets are pretty universal, so swapping out stabilizer jacks doesn't take a long time, doesn't take a lot of effort. I'm just going to get these backed out of here. Once we get all of our screws out we'll be able to get this old one out of the way. You got four holes, here, for attachment. Often times you're going to see self-tapping screws used in this application. This is right up to our bumper beam, here. Now, if you're adding these. Maybe you're adding these to an enclosed trailer, or something that traditionally doesn't have stabilizers, you just want to make sure you're on a solid piece of steel, like right here, or even on your frame, here. That's going to give you a great attachment point, make sure you've got plenty of support there. Our new one, we're going to bring it up. I'm just going to reuse our existing hardware. Use one to hold it in place, get our other ones lined up and installed. Now these can also be welded right onto your camper, or your trailer, whatever you want to do. We can have it welded, just, basically, all the way around the seam, there. Anywhere we can get a good weld on. These are number 14 self-tapping screws. They also recommend the use of a three-eighths bolt. If you're going to use a three-eighths bolt, definitely use something that's, at least, a grade five. That's going to complete our look at the Ultra Fab Ultra Scissor Jacks with 24 inches of lift.

I ordered (4) 6500# rated jacks for our 33’ travel trailer which originally had flimsy 2500# rated jacks. The original jacks had some issues from the previous owner of the trailer and I am sure I made matters worse by not setting up correctly. I went a little overboard on the new jacks because I want a much sturdier setup. Installation was a snap, probably took about 8 minutes per jack. As usual, I received excellent service from etrailer including fast shipping and secure packaging. Love doing business with these folks and I highly recommend that you give them a chance to serve your needs. 512891

Hit a chunk of Semi tire on my trip from Wisconsin to Texas. It bent up the rear passenger stabilizer and the lead screw too. The damaged stabilizer was labeled "Model Number J-2500" I ordered this unit and it only took about 10 minutes to swap out. This worked great, good price and fast delivery. I will buy from this company again the next time i run something over! 450429

These jacks were perfect with great weight performance and ease of lifting. The mounting pads are large with many mounting holes to choose from. These are the easy way to stabilize a 38' trailer without crawling underneath to place screw jacks. Now I just crank them down at setup and I'm done with easy adjusting during my winter stay. 235392

The is exactly what I wanted low profile and very strong. The scissor jacks should stand up to the long exposures it will endure when installed. A little more expensive but we'll worth the expected longevity. Much better built then the junk that came with our trailer. Only pitfall with these units is they come without instructions regarding installation. If you have not got the ability to understand how to install without instructions want to check out the cost of installation for final purchase cost. 413401

It's the only Jack that turns counterclockwise to put it down. All other Jack's turn clockwise to put it down very unusual also Turns very stiffly 440631

Comments

Because of counter clockwise to lower and opposite of the other three. Have to remind others that use it that one jack is not like the rest.

Actually I am not happy with it. When cranking it up the bolt extends out which you clip your leg on. Even though I lubed the heck out of it, it still is very hard to crank. I wil be looking for another one to replace it. Now maybe there is something wrong with this one, but I have nothing to compare to. Therefore........do not like it!! 576297

Very solid and well built, exceeded my expectations. Mounted tonight and the camper is now solid as a rock when parked. It only had rear stabilizers previously and at 19 feet needed the stability in the front. Wifey says previously it felt like she was on a water bed when I was walking in the back. Not any more! 554063

Delivered on time. The stabilizer seems sturdy and well built, as others have said it does extend and retract backwards. Not sure why it would be threaded that way, but as long as it does the job I can live with that. 539507

by:

Great, but didn't come with mounting bolts, which was a real bummer. Comes pre-greased in strong packaging. There wasn't even a hole in the cardboard. I was very impressed. 539197

It scews in the wrong direction than all the others that I have 517934

The ultra fab scissor jacks use two nuts in their design so it turns counter clockwise to raise it and clockwise to lower it. It is opposite of most jacks on the market but functions just the same.

  • Recommended Jack To Be Used For Changing Tires
  • We do have a jack that would work for you when you want to change the tire on your trailer or vehicle, but the Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jack, part # UF48-979006 is not designed to be able to hold that much weight. Ultra-Fab's note states ' This jack is designed to stabilize a portion of your trailer's weight, not to support the full GVWR of your trailer. Do not use this jack to lift your trailer or RV. Doing so will exceed the capacity of the jack.' I recommend the Powerbuilt Unijack,...

  • Can a Trailer Scissor Jack be Used to Lift a Trailer
  • The problem that you are running into is that scissor jacks for trailers, such as # UF48-979006, are not meant to lift up the trailer. They are for stabilizing the trailer front to back or side to side only. I know that seems counter-intuitive but that is how scissor jacks are designed and rated for use on trailers.

One just has the word Stabilizer in the title and the other does not. Both will perform the same way and stabilize the trailer, only really difference is that the part # LC285326 has a 10,000 lb capacity and the # UF48-979006 has a 6,500 lb capacity.

The Stromberg Carlson Jack, part # JSC-24-IND operates the same way.

  • Can Ultra-Fab Stabilization Jack Be Used to Jack Up 3/4 Ton Truck
  • The Ultra-Fab Scissor Jack # UF48-979006 that you referenced is strictly designed as a stabilization mechanism for trailers only. This jack mounts to the underside of the trailer and then drops to hold the trailer in place to prevent rocking. My technical contact at Ultra-Fab told me that the term -jack- is an industry term for a variety of items that do not necessarily raise a vehicle but all have a similar look such as automobile scissor jacks and trailer stabilization scissor jacks. We...

  • Recommended Stabilizer Jack to Replace Electric Jack
  • If you want to remove the electric jack on your trailer, make sure you remove the power wire at the battery connection. I definitely don't recommend just cutting the wire and leaving a hot wire running from your battery. To replace your jack with a scissor jack, I recommend the Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jack - 24" Lift - 6,500 lbs # UF48-979006. I've attached a video to assist.

  • Lube Recommendation for the Ultra-Fab 24 inch Ultra Scissor Jack
  • My recommendation for lubrication of the worm gear assembly on the Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jack, # UF48-979006, would be to use Marine Trailer Wheel Bearing Grease, # L11404, or # L11402 if you would rather use a grease gun to apply the grease. The reason I recommend using a marine type of grease is that it resists moisture better than standard grease and will help prevent corrosion of the worm gear assembly for easier operation. You are correct that grease collects dust and road debris,...

They key is matching the jacks to your trailer's weight load and the amount of height adjustment you need. • Scissor Jack Stabilizer Jack Compatible with 8,000 lbs
  • Scissor jacks are stabilizing jacks and not intended for lifting. Their rated capacity is only for stabilizing. We have kits with capacities above 8,000 lbs but the largest support capacity for a single jack is the Ultra-Fab Ultra Scissor Jack - 24" Lift - 6,500 lbs # UF48-979006 or the 30 inch lift # UF48-979032. So if you use one on each side of your trailer that gives you a 13,000 lb support capacity at that location since you wouldn't put it on one side and not the other.
