Stromberg Carlson Camper Jack - LG-1

Electric, fifth-wheel landing gear set's motor has an IP-rated switch for fast, easy, and safe operation. Each leg is 29-1/2" tall, offers 19-7/8" of travel, and has a 15" drop leg for extra lift. Combined weight capacity is 5.5K.

Features:

  • Perfect for raising, leveling, and supporting your 5th-wheel trailer or RV
  • Electric-powered adjustment for easy operation
  • Single-speed motor won't trip circuits or cause problems with coach's electrical systems
    • IP-rated switch will not spark, so it can be mounted safely in bottle-gas area
  • Drop legs minimize jacking time and help to level the trailer on uneven ground
    • Legs adjust in 1" increments
  • Cage pins included to release drop legs
    • Upgrade to spring-loaded pull pins (LG-119113 - sold separately) for simpler drop leg release
  • Hand crank included for manual operation
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Gearbox is housed in a corrosion-resistant aluminum body
  • Landing gear welds onto trailer frame
  • Set includes 2 jacks, gearbox, motor, switch, footplates, cross shaft, hand crank, and hardware
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Leg length: 29-1/2"
  • Total lift: 34-7/8"
    • Travel: 19-7/8"
    • Drop leg: 15"
  • Combined weight capacity: 5,500 lbs
  • Cross shaft length: 41" - 71"
  • Footplate dimensions: 8" long x 5" wide x 2" tall
  • Outer tube width: 2-1/2"
  • 1-Year warranty

Note: Landing gear is designed to stabilize a portion of your trailer's weight, not to support the full GVWR of your trailer. Do not use landing gear to lift your trailer or RV during tire changes or service work because doing so will exceed the capacity of the landing legs.

Stromberg Carlson's landing gear was designed with safety in mind. The motor, manufactured by Lippert, won't trip circuits or cause problems with the coach's electrical systems. In addition, the IP-rated switch will not spark, so it can be mounted safely in the bottle-gas area.

Convenience is also a hallmark of this product. An inner drop leg on each jack makes leveling easy by allowing the jack feet to reach the ground quickly and at varying heights, saving time and thus reducing the draw on the trailer's battery. The cage pins that secure the drop legs can be replaced with spring-loaded pull pins (LG-119113 - sold separately) that allow for single-handed operation. Large, rectangular, pivoting footpads are included, but you can use larger, 9-inch-diameter pads (LG-210475 - sold separately) instead if you often camp on soft ground.

This system and its parts were designed to be compatible with most of the other fifth-wheel landing gear on the market, including Atwood and Lippert. If you're replacing your old landing gear, you can install this set from Stromberg Carlson using your existing mounting hardware.

Video Transcript for Stromberg Carlson Camper Jack LG-1 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Strongberg-Carlson Electric Landing Gear. The landing gear can support up to 5500lbs. It's also going to feature an IP-rated switch that's going to feature safe operation. This set is going to be perfect for fifth-wheel campers. It's going to feature electric powered adjustment for easy operation. You've got the motor right here.

This right here is that IP-rated switch I was talking about. It's going to allow you to extend and retract the 30 amp fuses included, and it's got the wiring that can easily get connected to the motor and the power source to operate the extending and retracting functions of the jack itself. Really nice design. It's going to feature the single speed Lipert motor. That's going to have built-in safety features.

The motor won't trip circuits or cause problems with the coach's electrical systems. Again, the IP-rated switch is designed so it won't spark. That way, it can be mounted safely in the bottle gas area. The unit on each support leg is going to contain a drop leg. That's really going to help minimize the amount of jacking and amount of time it takes to jack.

It's going to help to level the trailer even on an uneven ground. The legs will adjust in increments of 1". It's going to feature the cage pins. Those are included to release the drop legs, and the total drop leg travel on each side is going to be 16". Plenty of versatility there when it comes to getting those out to where you need it. This piece right back here, this is going to be our crank handle, so it does have the manual option available with the crank handle.

That is included for manual operation. The unit's going to be constructed of heavy-duty steel. Really nice, strong dependable construction. The gearbox, which is located on this side over here by the motor. The gear box is going to be housed in a corrosion-resistant aluminum body. One of the things I want to mention too is that the gear box is going to have multiple stops, and can be fitted to the lead leg according to a position that would best work for your particular application. You can see that I have it mounted vertically which puts the motor on top, but again that can be rotated to best fit your application. The landing gear is designed to weld onto the trailer frame. The set is going to include 2 jacks. It's going to include your gear box, your motor, your switch. It's going to have the foot plates. They're on the base of the landing gear. It's going to have the telescoping cross-shaft. It's going to have the hand crank, and it's going to include your weld brackets. Two for each side. That way you can easily get it welded on. We do recommend that welding is done by a professional. It's going to come with all necessary hardware as well as installation and operation instructions. The amount of lift that this unit's going to offer is going to be 21" from the welding point. The cross-shaft, it does have a telescoping design. That way the length can adjust from 41" to 71". When it comes to the foot pads, that's going to be these pieces down here. Really nice large design, so that way they really help distribute the weight that's applied to the unit. Those foot pads are going to measure 8" by 5" wide. The tube, the outer tube right here, that's going to give us a square design and that's going to measure 2 1/2" by 2 1/2". Please keep in mind that the landing gear is designed to stabilize a portion of your trailer's weight. It's not intended to support the full gross vehicle weight rating of your trailer. You want to be careful not to use your landing gear in a way that would lift your trailer or RV, especially during tire changes or service work. You want to make sure that you don't exceed the capacity of the landing legs. This system and its parts are designed to be compatible with most of the other fifth wheel landing gear that's out on the market including Atwood and Lippert, so if you're replacing your old landing gear, you can install this set from Stongberg-Carlson using your existing mounting hardware. That's going to do it for today's review of the Strongberg-Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set.

First of all I want to say that any of the following comments by me is NOT a reflection on etrailer.com whose support and product shipping has been excellent. It is more as a informational thing than anything. I installed this unit on my 2007 28' Thor Transport toy hauler after it fell off the jacks and destroyed the landing gear (that just made me so happy, you just don't know the joy..). My first comments are for Thor, I want to thank them for the absolute cluster (you know what) of an install of the original gear. Totally inaccessible and the worst engineered and assembled garbage ever. The original gear was tack welded at the stops and the carriage bolts for the mounting brackets were installed so that you could not remove them, they all needed to be cut off, a real dream job in an inaccessible location. In addition, I had to remove the 5500 onan generator and the (2) 7.5 gallon propane tanks and the sheet metal enclosures and doors. Next I would like to thank Lippert and Stromberg Carlson for continuing their questionable design of these legs which are only supported by one tab (on the legs) and one bracket on each leg in the load bearing direction (the other tab supports the leg when in the non-load bearing position. And for the 2 extra bolts (1/4-20 x 1 1/2" with jam nuts) that no one seems to know where they go. Also, there is a lot to be desired with the instructions, but that's just me I guess. Be sure to accurately measure your existing brackets prior to getting started because this could be a game changer if they are off by more than a 1/4" or more, you would have to have your brackets cut off and re-welded. As for my Thor, they were off by about 1/8" and I was able to grind off the bottom of the lower tab (on the leg) to make them fit into my existing brackets. After completing the job (3 days in 105 degrees) I still have some questions about the carriage bolts that were shipped, if I were to do it again I would change the bolts to a much stronger bolt, but it's to late for me now. Etrailer had the best price and fastest shipping and were very helpful, would I buy again from them, you bet... 151953

I found the product was of good to excellent quality. However when reviewing the installation directions it had no directions on how to wire the elec. motor to the control switch. I found the wiring instructions on the motor manufacturing web site. I would recommend that these instructions be with the installation instructions. Also when connecting the left & right landing gear together with the provided 1" square tube the bars were not long enough to make the span on a standard 5th wheel camper. I had to use my existing bar. I would use etrailer.com again and I hope this helps them make corrections to this package. 124726

LG-1 (5500 lb capacity 5th wheel landing gear) came in a previously opened box. Parts clanking around loosely inside. None appeared damaged but the lead leg LG-179013 did not operate smoothly. The follower leg, LG-179014, was good. I called etrailer about both issues, open box and bad lead leg. They shipped a replacement leg from their stock a few days later. It arrived in good packaging and worked smoothly. They sent a prepaid shipping label to return defective part. The legs were easy to install. I actually wanted to buy the Stromberg Carlson LG-5 Landing Gear Dual Power Conversion Kit but etrailer did not sell that model. I chose to by the full leg kit and use only the powered leg to convert my 5th wheel to dual power landing gear. It works great. I am disappointed that I received an open box with a bad part but etrailer responded nicely and quickly. That will keep me coming back. 374550

Thank you Shery and etrailer for reordering, at the same price, the LG-1 so it would arrive on time. It works great on my 2004 Montana. I did have a problem with lining up the the legs to the already welded on brackets, but with a minamum amount of ajustment (some filing of bolt holes and hammering on leg) I was able to secure solidly. My decision to replace the entire landing gear assembly in stead of just the broken lead leg was based on the age of my RV and the cost to do so (it was a great price). I will continue to use your service in the future and reccomend it to anyone I can. Thanks again for the great service. 417180

I bought this to replace my landing legs on my 10 year old 5th wheel. The lg-1 is a complete conversion kit for a complete install or replacement of manual systems. I bought this because I had multiple problems with my original system and wanted to change out all the major parts at one time and be done with it so it was convenient for me to buy this. You can buy the parts separately if you want. The legs, motor, and gearbox were almost identical to what I had. The replacement took me 5 hours by myself. Everything worked great. Although the gearbox was a little noisy I am happy with this set. The price was great. The service when ordering was awesome. Free shipping and arrived on schedule. I would do business with Etrailer again definitely. 200395

Arrived a day or two earlier than expected. Almost identical to original equipment I had on my keystone Laredo 2009. Old gear was very easy to remove. New gear installed easily. Took about two hours with just socket wrenches and basic hand tools. Installed it at a campground. The only reason I didn't give a five star review is that the kit didn't include new feet as advertised...I just used the old ones. I think this gear is just fine, so long as you get in the habit of chocking the wheels when connecting or disconnecting. Pushing or pulling the trailer with the feet on the ground bends the legs and then the motor overloads. 345791

Thank you for you super fast service, because of that i can safely unhook my 5th wheel this coming deer hunting season. I was going to just level it best i could out there and leave it hooked up. Everything was as described on your online ad, am very happy, everything went on perfect. Had to put the cranking mechanism on sideways so manual crank would fit crank hole. Wish there was a better way to secure cranking mechanism to prevent it from wobbling when cranking. 301670

I needed one replacement landing gear leg for my wildcat 5er but figured the other one would likely be needing replacement soon after so I ordered the complete assembly. It matched the OE landing gear mounting points perfectly and I had it installed in about an hour. The shipping always exceeds my expectations, I ordered on Sunday afternoon, it shipped Monday and was at my place before noon on Wednesday! 190131

Product was better quality than the original landing gear and fit perfectly on my 07 Keystone Cougar. Great Price! The dealer wanted $450 for just the follow leg and gear box plus 3 hours labor and I would have to wait 5 weeks. I ordered the complete system including motor for about $425 with shipping, had it in 2 days then I installed it in 2 hours. 199235

Was very impressed with the speed my order was processed and its delivery to my door. Do not have the landing gear installed yet, but it appears to be exactly the right replacement parts. Also the price was the best I found anywhere. Will certainly be the first place I check for future parts. Thankyou very much for the excellent service!!!! 268938

I ordered the jack set on Monday morning and received it on Wednesday afternoon, which was quicker than I expected. They were priced reasonably and were a good fit for my RV. My only "issue" is, the gear box is a little noisier than my original one, but they work great. 220854

so far working great, perfect fit and easy to install with a little help. the only problem I have had is that the bolt on the tail end broke and had to replace it, but its possible that it worked loose causing it o break 287267

Installed in about an hour. Fairly simple to do. Looks like it will work just fine. Motor to drive it sounds like it may be a little weak for my application on a 30' fifth wheel though. Other than that satisfied. 406892

  • Landing Gear Recommendation for a 1997 Fleetwood Terry 5th Wheel Trailer
  • It looks like there were several different models of the 1997 Terry 5th wheels. Some of them had exposed landing gear and some didn't. If your model has exposed landing gear then the Stromberg-Carlson set # LG-1 will work great. If your landing gear is accessed by opening panels on the side of the trailer then a set such as Ultra-Fab landing gear # UF17-943010 is a better option. Each leg has its own motor and switch. In either case make sure the dimensions of the replacement products...

  • Availability of Replacement Motor for Lippert Model 1300 Power Tongue Jack
  • The part you referenced, Stromberg-Carlson Motor and Switch Kit for Landing Gear # LG-217884, is for converting Stromberg-Carlson manual landing gear to powered, or to replace the motor and switch on their # LG-1 electric landing gear. It is not suitable as a replacement motor for a tongue jack. My contact at Lippert advises that they do not offer a replacement motor for their powered tongue jacks. These units are not user-serviceable except for exterior components such as power switches...

  • Locating Replacement Gears for Landing Gear Legs on a 2000 Cameo 5th Wheel Trailer
  • I have some information that may help, however, replacement gears for the landing gear legs on your 2000 Cameo fifth wheel trailer may be difficult to find. Typically, landing gear manufacturers do not stamp their name or part number on their landing gear legs. Since most landing gear manufacturers do not make their parts interchangeable between one another, the only way to locate the correct replacement gears is by knowing the manufacturer and part number of the landing gear which involves...

  • Replacement Landing-Gear Gear Box for a Montana Fifth Wheel
  • It sounds like you are saying that the gear box on the landing gear of your trailer has been damaged. I think by nipples you are referring to what I have pointed out in the picture I attached. • Replacement Landing Gear for Forest River Sierra 316BHT 5th-Wheel
  • To replace the landing gear on your Forest River Sierra 5th-Wheel RV, I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set - Weld On # LG-1. The distance between mounting brackets on these jacks is 17-1/2 inches, the same as on your existing unit, so these will work great without needing to remove the brackets already installed on your RV. These have a combined weight capacity of 5,500 pounds and a total lift of 34-7/8 inches. I have attached a video review as well as the installation...

  • What Landing Gear Will Fit 1996 Avion 5th Wheel Trailer
  • I have a solution for your 1996 Avion 5th wheel, however, it is not as simple as getting two new legs. Your Avion was manufacturered by Fleetwood and the landing gear was manufacturered by RBW. Fleetwood discontinued the Avion and RBW sold out to Al-Ko. Al-Ko decided to discontinue the landing gear and sold the rights to Atwood Mobile. Atwood Mobile decided to not produce the original RBW landing gear. however, to make a long story short, after my research I have found a way for you...

  • Stromberg Carlson Landing Gear # LG-1 for Jayco Qwest Fifth Wheel Camper
  • The Stromberg Carlson # LG-1 is an industry-standard landing gear that should fit on your fifth wheel with no problems. The mounting brackets weld directly to the frame of your fifth wheel, and the jacks would then mount into the brackets. As long as your Jayco Qwest has exposed frame members under the trailer loft for the brackets to weld to, the LG-1 will work great for you. I have linked you to a copy of our return policy.

  • How Landing Gear Jacks are Connected to Fifth Wheel
  • The outer tube of the landing gear is attached to the fifth wheel frame via some frame clamps. The clamps themselves are usually welded to the trailer frame, and bolted clamps hold the outer jack tube in place. The inner tube of the jack will extend and retract, raising and lowering the front of the fifth wheel. The diagram I provided might make it a bit more clear for you.

  • How to Pick Out Landing Gear Jacks for 1996 Coachmen Catalina
  • In order to pick out a direct replacement for the landing gear on your 1996 Coachmen Catalina we would need to know the distance between the mounting brackets. • Landing Gear Recommendation for 2008 Forest River Sierra 5th Wheel Trailer
  • Your best option maybe to replace the entire system. I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear Set, part # LG-1. This set has a combined weight capacity of 6,000 pounds. It is possible to replace the leg motor, cross shaft and gearbox while your 2008 Forest River Sierra 5th wheel is attached to your truck. • Landing Gear on 1996 Prowler 5th Wheel Cannot Take Weight of Trailer
  • If the motor and gear box on your Prowler's landing gear appear to be working properly but the jacks do not withstand the weight of the trailer, then it is likely that the main threaded screw that drives the inner portion of the leg is stripped. This part is not offered on its own. If you have Stromberg-Carlson, Atwood or Lippert 3000-lb-rated landing gear you can replace the lead and follow legs and re-install your motor and cross-shaft using parts # LG-179013 and # LG-179014.

  • Troubleshooting Landing Gear Issue On 2008 Weekend Warrior LED 3505
  • It does sound like you have isolated the issue indirectly. If you can move everything manually without issue, then the screws in the legs are fine. The gearbox works fine under manual load, so gears are fine, and motor seems to work fine, so the issue most likely isn't your landing gear. The issue could be a weak battery. I recommend testing your battery to make sure it is charged. The 3:1 ratio is standard on landing gear but you can upgrade the motor speed for faster lift using...
