Video Transcript for Bulldog Round Pipe-Mount Swivel Jack Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer and today we're taking a look at the Bulldog round pipe mounted swivel jack with Top-wind. Now this is an extremely heavy duty jack, and part of that is gonna be the capacities that it can handle. In fact, it has a load capacity of 7,000 pounds and a lift capacity of 5,000. So it might be a little bit overkill for this little hold behind tear drop but we really aren't gonna have to worry by having too much. Now this can be put on a number of different trailers assuming that you have a pipe mount. But also you're able to weld one onto your trailer with the included pipe mount.

Now, ours already had an existing pipe mount but it does come with this. So all you'll have to do is weld this on the trailer wherever you'd like it and then you're ready to go. Now this says 10 inches of travel. So it's gonna adjust decently for a number of different trailers. So when it is fully retracted it's gonna be 11 and a quarter.

And then when it's fully extended you're gonna have 21 and a quarter. Now I'm a big fan of pipe mounted jack's mostly because other jacks, when you get ready to hook up and start towing, you can retract them up and it's gonna bring it to where it's not too close to the ground but they're always kind of hanging down with a little bit of ground clearance that just kind of leaves me wondering as I'm towing if it's gonna hit something, especially if there's a, you know, a tire on the road or whatever it may be, and you don't want to damage your jack. Well, the pipe mounted ones are great because when you are ready to tow you just pull this pin, swivel it up, put the pin back in and you've gained a ton of ground clearance. So I don't ever worry about this making contact with the ground or any road hazards. This handle too, also, that you're able to stow this in a position that's gonna make it nice and compact here.

The handle is also designed to store in a nice compact position here. So I can just bend this back and it's gonna still adjust like that you don't have that hanging down. So if you look at the ground clearance that you have here it's gonna give you that peace of mind knowing that you're not gonna destroy your jack while towing. Now when you are welding on your pipe mount if you need to, you're gonna wanna make sure that this is gonna be able to clear everything, obviously, so it's not binding up or you're not busting your knuckles. And this is gonna be about six and three quarters.

It's got a nice handle here for grabbing. That way you're not gonna lose your grip while spinning it. But something to keep in mind when you mount it up you wanna make sure that you can fully articulate the jack. Now some other great features is you can see that it's got a nice, great powder coat. So it's gonna look really good, but also that's gonna protect it from the elements. So if you store your trailer outside, it should hold up for a long time. You also have zinc coating on all of your exposed metal here. So that's also gonna give you that added protection from rust and corrosion. Now you have your foot plate here. This is solid welded on one piece. So you don't have to worry about changing out the pet or having an extra pin. And a lot of times those can make noise on the road. This is solid, one piece, you don't have to worry about it and it's gonna be maintenance free. There's no Zerk fittings on here to pump and grease so some of the other ones do. So maybe that's something that you might consider when choosing your jack. But overall, these are pretty low maintenance. Occasionally you might just grease those up and it should be working fine. Occasionally you might extend out the inner tube, throw some grease on there and retract it back just to kind of keep it protected. And that was a look at the Bulldog round pipe mounted swivel jack with Top-wind..

  • Dimensions of the Pipe Mount for the Bulldog Trailer Jack with 5,000 lb Capacity
I went out into our warehouse and measured the inner and outer diameter of the mounting bracket that is on the Bulldog Round, Pipe-Mount Swivel Jack # BD178101 and found that the outer diameter measures 2 inches and the inner diameter measures 1-1/2 inches.

  • What is the Outer Diameter of the Mounting Bracket for the Bulldog Pipe Mount Swivel Jack?
The mounting bracket has an inner tube diameter of 2"and an outer tube diameter of 2-1/4". I recommend the Bulldog Round, Pipe-Mount Swivel Jack - Topwind - 10" Lift - 5,000 lbs item # BD178101. This will mount directly to that short section of tubing you were referring to and not to the actual frame of your trailer.

  • Recommended Footplate For Bulldog 5,000 Lb Jack With 2-1/4 Inch Diameter Outer Tube
The Bulldog Detachable Footplate with Pin, part # BD018098, you referenced is designed for a 2,000 to 5,000 lb jacks with the inner 2 inch diameter tubing. The diameter of the outer tube on a 5,000 lb Bulldog jack like part # BD178101 is 2-1/4 inches, but the inside diameter of the tube where the footplate inserts should be 2 inches. The outside diameter of the footplate tube measures 2 inches. This # BD018098 footplate should work well for your jack with the 2-1/4 inch outside diameter...

  • Is 5,000 lb Bulldog Topwind Jack Stronger or Easier to Use than Bulldog Sidewind Jack
The sidewind and top wind 5,000 lb Bulldog pipe-mounted trailer jacks you asked about have the steel construction with a zinc-plated inner tube and 5,000 lb capacity, so they are equal in strength. We also have a similar version by Pro Series. They also have the same ease in regard to cranking, though this can be based on personal preference. Some people would rather crank vertically (sidewind) as opposed to horizontally (topwind) and clearance is also another consideration if there's...

  • How To Stop A-Frame Trailer Tongue Jack from Bottoming Out
Yes, the Ultimate Trailer Jack part # 322-RDJ-2K is the perfect option to prevent bottoming out the tongue jack since you can adjust the shaft on the base to ensure you have as much ground clearance as possible. It also makes lifting and lower the trailer much faster since it works as a drop leg.

  • 5,000 lb Bulldog A-Frame Jack With Short Retracted Height
I checked and although there is not a bushing for the Bulldog Swivel Jack - Topwind # BD178101, we do have a 5,000 lb Bulldog A-frame jack with a short retracted height that is going to be exactly what you need. The Round A-Frame Trailer Jack - Sidewind - 15-5/8" Travel - 5,000 lbs # TJA-5000S-B has a 23-3/8" retracted height and a 15" lift. You can also add a removable foot plate # JF-99 or a drop leg # JF-1005H-Z. This short retracted height should definitely resolve the issue you...
