Video Transcript for Bulldog Trailer Jack - A-Frame Jack - BD165411 Review

Today were going to review part number BD165411. This is the Bulldog Heavy-Duty A-Frame Rack-and-Gear Jack with a 1200-lb capacity. This Bulldog A-Frame Jack is a durable reliable Rack-and-Gear Jack and includes a steel caster base and all-welded steel gearbox. This is perfect for applications involving heavier trailers and increased tongue weights. This is a durable heavy-duty jack which is efficient and easy to use. It has maximum side-load strength thanks to the heavy-gauge post.

The smooth cranking produces 1-inch of travel for every four turns of the crank. And again, this gearbox is welded steel with a red oxide primer painted finish. And inside is the steel alloy helical gear which offer increased lift capacity. The rack post itself has a yellow zinc plating for corrosion resistance. The mounting bracket which is this triangular part right here can be welded on or bolted on using the three existing holes.

Now the dimension from the center to center of each hole is 3 inches which is the industry standard. So if you have an A-frame jack that has the three holes, normally they will be up to 3-inch center to center measurement. The painted steel wheel is included and it does have the gusseted caster bracket which provides additional stability. I do want to give you a few measurements on this. This jack I have in the fully retracted position where the gearbox is all the way to the bottom.

So well measure the retracted height which will be from the bottom of the wheel to the mounting bracket. And that would measure at 7-1/2 inches. Now with it in the fully extended position where the gearbox would be all the way to the top of the post I went and got another jack and to save time I already cranked it out to the extended position. And again, this would be with the gearbox all the way to the top of the jack. So if we measure from the bottom of the wheel to the mounting bracket that would give us a measurement of 23-1/2 inches.

So to calculate the lift of this jack you would take the extended height which is 23-1/2 subtract the retracted height which is 7-1/2 inches and that will give you a lift of 16-inches so the maximum lift on this jack would be 16-inches. And then one other measurement Im going to give you is the clearance height which would be--well go back to the jack in the fully retracted position. So if we measure the clearance from the mounting bracket to the top of the rack post that would give us 20.3 inches. So the clearance from the mounting bracket to the top of the jack would be 20.3. Now the whole rack post itself, the length of that would be 21 inches. And again, this jack does have a lift capacity of 1200 lbs and it does come with a limited 5-year warranty. And that should do it for our review on part number BD165411.

this is the only jack I could find w/ a 3 point center mount and a steel wheel. Exactly what I was looking for. I would have given 5 starts but it did take almost 6 months to get. I would have canceled but it was the only one I could find and etrailer immediately and completely respond every time with updates when emailed for an update. I would do business with them again 481212

this is a great jack for light tongue weights only. It's simply to hard to crank with heavy (over 800)lbs 129476

Ask the Experts about this Bulldog Trailer Jack
Do you have a question about this Trailer Jack?

  • Comparing Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack Replacement Gear Box/Crank Assemblies BD019141 and BD018155
  • Both of the Bulldog replacement gear box/crank assemblies you referenced, parts # BD019141 and # BD018155, fit their 165-series rack-and-gear jacks. The difference between them is the weight rating of the jacks they fit. Part # BD018155 fits 750-lb-rated jacks # BD165111, # BD165211 and # BD165311. Part # BD019141 fits 1200-lb-rated jacks # BD165411 and # BD165412. Both allow either bolt-on or weld-on installation on any standard a-frame trailer.

  • Is the Rack Post for the 1,200 lb and the 750 lb Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jacks the Same
  • Yes, the rack post for both the 1,200 lb # BD165411 and the 750 lb # BD165311 Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jacks are interchangeable and that the weight rating won't be affected either way. I reached out to my contact at Bulldog who confirmed this and that the only difference (aside from color) is that the gear ratio is a little different so one will operate the let faster than the other one.

  • Does Bulldog A-Frame Gearbox and Crank Assembly Fit Different Size Jack Legs?
  • The Bulldog A-Frame Gearbox and Crank Assembly # BD019141 is designed to work with Bulldog Heavy-Duty, Rack-and-Gear Jack # BD165411 and # BD165412. Each of these have an inner tube diameter of 2" and outer tube diameter of 2-1/4" so there is no difference in that regard, and the jacks each have a 1,200 lb capacity.

  • Comparing Rack and Gear Trailer Jacks with Regular Jacks
  • If you are looking at a rack and post such as # BD018006 it is just a replacement for the post in a rack and gear jack. A rack and gear jack such as # BD161300 is the post and the head part. This one gets welded to the frame. Jack # BD169201 clamps to the frame, and one like # BD165411 bolts in as an A-Frame jack. Unlike a typical jack that has a fixed nut inside and a screw that turns in it to raise/lower the inner leg, rack and gear jacks have the gear track fixed to the post and...

  • What is the Circumference of Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack, # DL22530
  • The outer tube of a jack is usually measured in diameter. The diameter of the Dutton-Lainson A-Frame Trailer Jack, # DL22530, is 2 inches. If you take the diameter and multiply it by pi to get the circumference, it ends up being 6.28 inches. You would need a jack that measures 2 inches to 2-1/16 inches in diameter. I went out to the warehouse and all of the smaller A-frame jacks I measured had that 7 inch circumference. However, I do believe I have a solution for you. While I was out...

  • Replacement A-Frame Caster Wheel Tongue Jack
  • We offer all kinds of trailer jacks including the caster wheel a-frame type. Based on my research this is the type supplied on the 2007 Brenderup Baron. For a 1200-lb-rated heavy-duty side-wind jack with 16-inches of lift and a steel wheel you can use Bulldog # BD165411. If you need more lift you can use # BD165412 with 19-inches of lift. Both of these jacks can be bolted or welded on. You may care to have a look at the linked article on trailer jacks to help you choose a suitable replacement...

  • Replacement Caster Wheel Jack for 2 Horse Slant Trailer
  • If your horse trailer's jack has a caster wheel it is probably a bolt-on tongue jack like Bulldog # BD165412 or # BD165411 rather than a weld-on jack like # 3370091410H. These two Bulldog jacks are both rated for 1200-lbs of trailer tongue weight (appropriate for your 7K trailer) and both have a steel wheel; the only difference is the amount of lift which is 16-inches with # BD165411 and 19-inches with # BD165412. Both use a 3-bolt mount as shown in the photo.
