Video Transcript for Bulldog Trailer Jack - Side Frame Mount Jack - BD161300 Review

Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel, part number BD161300. Now, Bulldog covers this jack with a limited five-year warranty and it features a lift capacity of 750 pounds. It's a weld on design jack. This bracket here on the back can be welded directly to the frame of your trailer. At the bottom of the jack, there's a painted steel wheel for helping you roll the trailer around. This is a Rack-and-Gear style jack.

You can see the teeth along the main post and there's a mechanism inside that moves along those teeth. This cranking system provides 1 inch of travel for every four turns, which means you'll have to turn the jack less to get it raised or lowered. On the back of the jack, there's a grease zerk here. That way you can keep the internals nicely lubricated for a long lasting operation. Now, I want to go over a couple of measurements.

We have this jack fully contracted. We'll measure from the bottom of the plate down to the bottom of the wheel and we get about 6-1/2 inches. We'll take the same jack that we have completely extended. We'll measure from the bottom of the bracket down to the bottom of our wheel and we get 22-1/2 inches when fully extended. The difference between our retracted and extended measurement is 16 inches.

This is known as the jack's lift or travel. And that does it for our quick look at the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel, part number BD161300.

Ask the Experts about this Bulldog Trailer Jack

Do you have a question about this Trailer Jack?

  • Trailer Jack with Best Ground Clearance and a Wheel for a Pop-up Trailer
  • If your trailer tongue weight is less than 750 pounds then I have the perfect solution for you. A Rack and gear jack, such as # BD162300, can get very low. When fully retracted it measures just 6 inches from where it mounts to the bottom of the wheel. This jack is designed to fit frames that are up to 4 inches square but no larger. We also have the similar # BD169201 for up to 3 x 5 inch frames, and # BD161300 which is a weld-on application. If you can tell me your frame width and height...

  • Comparing Rack and Gear Trailer Jacks with Regular Jacks
  • If you are looking at a rack and post such as # BD018006 it is just a replacement for the post in a rack and gear jack. A rack and gear jack such as # BD161300 is the post and the head part. This one gets welded to the frame. Jack # BD169201 clamps to the frame, and one like # BD165411 bolts in as an A-Frame jack. Unlike a typical jack that has a fixed nut inside and a screw that turns in it to raise/lower the inner leg, rack and gear jacks have the gear track fixed to the post and...

  • Availability of a Pipe Mount Trailer Jack with Caster Wheel
  • I have a couple of jacks that I can recommend for you, but at this time we do not have a pipe mount jack available with the option of a caster wheel. The first and best fit would be the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel - Weld On - 16 inch Lift - 750 lbs, item # BD161300, which has a angle mounting plate that is 3-1/2 inches tall by 1-3/4 inches wide. If the fact that this jack does not swivel up out of the way is acceptable, it would be your best bet. The second is the...

  • Light-Duty Weld-On Trailer Jack With Steel Wheel
  • The Bulldog Trailer Jack, part # BD161300 features a steel wheel and can be used for many applications. This jack has a lift capacity of 750-lbs and has 16-inches of lift. It is a weld-on application.

  • Trailer Jack Recommendation for a Trailer with a 2 x 1-1/2 Inch Frame
  • I went out to the warehouse to measure a Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack, # BD162300. The smallest trailer frame it could mount to is 1-3/4 inches square so it will not fit on a 2 x 1-1/2 inch frame. I recommend a Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack, # BD161300. This jack has an L-shaped mount that will need to be welded to the bottom of the trailer frame. The trailer frame size you have will not matter for this jack. This is the best option I could find for you. It does not swing up but it does...

  • Trailer Tongue Jack with 10 Inch Retracted Height Needed for a Lawn Vacuum Trailer
  • The center of the swivel mount will be 11 inches from the bottom of the wheel when the bracket is adjusted to its lowest height. Depending on the size and design of your Vacuum trailer frame this jack may work for you. A better choice may be the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel - Weld On - 16 inch Lift, 750 lbs, item # BD161300, which has a bracket height of 6-1/2 inches when retracted. Another jack that may work for you is the Bolt-On, Drop Leg Trailer Jack - Sidewind...

  • Recommended Trailer Jack with Wheel for Wood Splitter
  • For your wood splitter, I recommend using the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack part # BD161300. This jack has a steel wheel, works with trailers that have a tongue weight up to 750 lbs, and comes with a weld-on bracket with a primer gray finish. The jack will provide you with 1" of travel for every 4 turns on the handle. I have attached a review video of this jack for you as well.

  • What are the Dimensions of the Mounting Brackets on Bulldog Rack and Gear 750lb Trailer Jack
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled Bulldog jack # BD169201 and measured the mounting plate. Its dimensions are 4 inches wide by 4-1/2 inches long. I made a short video that will appear on this page showing the measurements. If this jack will not work for you I recommend something like rack and gear jack # BD161300. It will need to be welded to the bottom and outside of the trailer frame. Welding should be done by a qualified professional.

  • The Bulldog Weld-On Gearbox and Crank Assembly # BD018161 is compatible with the Bulldog Rack-and-Post Assembly w/ Footplate # BD018520 as well as the Bulldog Rack-and-Post Assembly w/ Steel Wheel # BD018006. • Retracted Height from Wheel Bottom to Center of Mounting Bracket on Fulton F2 Trailer Jack 1600 lbs
  • I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Fulton F2 Trailer Jack, # F1413040134. With the mount set to the lowest setting, I took the measurement you needed. From the bottom of the wheel to the center of the mount is 12-1/4 inches. Jacks that can get very low are the rack and gear type, like # BD161300. With this jack, though, you are looking at only 750 pounds capacity. If the tongue weight of your loaded trailer is under that this may be a viable option.

  • Recommended Side Frame Mount Trailer Jack for Cycle Trailer
  • For your small cycle trailer, I recommend looking at the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear jack # BD161300. This is a very nice side frame mount jack that will be your best option for what you are needing. This jack features 16 inches of lift and can be welded onto the trailer frame with the included L-bracket. The sidewind handle will be great for your limited clearance and the steel caster wheel will allow you to move the trailer around. You will just want to make sure the 750 pound lift capacity...

  • Will a Rack and Gear Jack Rated for 750 Pounds Work on a 2,600 Pound Trailer
  • Since the trailer jack is only lifting a portion of the weight it is possible that a 750 pound rack and gear jack, see link, could work. If the gross trailer weight is 2,600 pounds then that would put the tongue weight somewhere around 260 to 390 pounds which is well within the capabilities of a 750 pound jack. There are some options that bolt around the frame such as # BD169201 or a weld-on option, # BD161300.

  • Side-Mount Swivel Trailer Jacks that have a Retracted Height Less than 11-1/2 Inches
  • We have pipe-mount swivel jack # PS1401060303 which, when retracted, has a height of 11-3/16 inches measured from the bottom of the foot to the center of the pipe mount. Are you looking for any specific features or capacity? If you are looking for an option with a wheel then Rack and Gear jacks such as # BD169201 can get very low (7-1/2 inches for this model). But the capacity is only 750 pounds. jack # BD162300 can get even lower at 6 inches and there is a weld-on option, # BD161300,...

  • What is the Distance Between Gear Teeth on Bulldog Trailer Jack # BD161300
  • I went out to the warehouse to measure the teeth on the Bulldog Rack-and-Gear Jack with Steel Wheel, # BD161300. I got a measurement of 0.22 inches center to center between teeth. I used a set of digital dial calipers to take the measurement.
