Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub-and-drum assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs and drums undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - 8-219-50 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter 12" galvanized trailer hub-and-drum assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles has an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. Now, this is a marine grade hub and drum assembly that'll fit axles with drum brakes. It does include both the outer and inner bearing races already pre-installed, does require the inner and outer bearings, the grease seal, the grease cap and lug nuts for installation, those we do sell separately on our website and are listed on this product page with the correct part number that you need. This hub-and-drum assembly has a nice galvanized zinc plating to it, has a 500 hour salt spray rating. It's ideal for use on a boat or snowmobile trailer, and it is durable enough for saltwater applications. This is designed to work with 12" by 2" electric and hydraulic brake assemblies. The application on this, again, is 5,200 pounds, 6,000 pound and 7,000 pound axles.

Weight capacity on just one of these hub-and-drums is 3,500 pounds, so when it's used with one on the other side of the axle it'll meet your 7,000 pound maximum trailer axle capacity. Bolt pattern, again, is an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. The wheel stud size is a 1/2" by 12". Just want to measure the drum inside diameter just to give you an idea. Inside diameter is 12", and the width on it is 2-1/4".

That should do it for the review on the Dexter 12" galvanized trailer hub-and-drum assembly for 5,200 pound to 7,000 pound axles with the 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Replacement Hub Drum Recommendation to Replace One with Grease Seal 10-36
The replacement hub/drum you would need is the part # 8-219-50UC3. Because you gave me the grease seal number I was able to determine that there is only one Lippert spindle size that has the 10-36 seal. The # 8-219-50UC3 also has the same bolt pattern that you need.

  • Recommended Brake Assemblies and Hub/Drum Assemblies for 7,000 lb Axle
With the 7,000 lb axle capacity and the bearings you gave, I can give you what will fit your trailer regardless of brand name. For your trailer brake assemblies, I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 5.2K to 7K # AKEBRK-7-SA. These assemblies will need adjustment only at initial install and then will adjust as needed to optimize your braking performance. For your hub/drum assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Trailer Hub and...

  • Hub and Drum Assembly and 16-1/2 Inch Wheel for Timbren 7K Axle-Less Trailer Suspension
Trailer wheel # AM20731 is a stud-piloted wheel meaning that it centers on the hub using wheel bolts instead of lug nuts. With this design the center of the wheel has to be the same as the center of the hub it fits on. Based on the design of the wheel and the fact that the drum uses lug nuts this wheel and the hub and drum # 8-219-50UC3-EZ are not compatible. For a wheel that is compatible I recommend # 17-163-7. This wheel does not have an offset like the other wheel but there aren't...

Thank you for including a photo of your older trailer wheel for which you are seeking replacements. In your required 15 x 6 rim size and 5-on-4-1/2-inch bolt pattern we have no wheels or wheel/tire combinations with a 4-inch pilot hole. I checked every such item we offer. All 15-inch wheels with a 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern that we offer have a pilot hole diameter of either 2.62-, 3.19- or 3.31-inches. All of these 15-inch rims are shown on the linked page. • Fit and Compatibility of Drum/Hub on # 42 Spindle
The # 14125A bearing has different applications than a # 15123 bearing. The outer diameters are different. Which is why the # AKHD-865-7-2-K will not work on your #42 spindle. If you have a # 15123 bearing then you would need that same bearing as a replacement. The only hub and drum with a 8 on 6-1/2 bolt patter that will work for an inner bearing of # 25580 and outer bearing of # 15123 is the # 8-219-50. • Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System with Lift for Single 5200-lb Axle Trailer
Timbren axle-less trailer suspension # TASR5200S03 is rated for 5200-lb applications, has 4-inch lift spindles and includes brake flanges. With this kit you can use 8-on-6-1/2 bolt pattern hub/drums that use inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123 or # LM67048. You can use galvanized hub/drum # 8-219-50. For electric brakes you can use left- and right-hand kit # AKEBRK-7-SA which are self-adjusting and that work with 14-1/2, 15, 16, and 16-1/2-inch wheel diameters. Some trailers...

The electric brakes I recommend to use with the Trailer Hub/Drum, part # 8-219-50 and the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension, part # ASR35HDS02 is the Dexter 12 inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, part # 23-459 for the right hand side. For the left hand I recommend part # 23-458. The mounting hardware for the brake systems is not included. You will need part # 38LW, part # 38N, and part # 7-5. For each brake you will need 5 of each.

The springs that you currently have are a bit odd and we would not offer a direct replacement. This system has 2 independent units that will eliminate the need for a thru axle while also increasing the ground clearance. This system has a weight capacity of 5,200 pounds. • Can One 7K Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System Replace Two 3.5K Torsion Axles
As far as capacity goes you could switch out two 3,500 pound axles for one 7K Timbren Axle-less system such as # TASR7KS01. You would have to place the Axle-Less system right in the middle of where the two axles used to be to make sure the trailer load is properly supported. You will also need different hubs, wheels, and tires since everything will need to be rated high enough on just the one axle. The hub and drum assembly that is compatible is # 42866UC3-EZ. • How Much Travel Distance Is Recommended for Fender Clearance with Timbren Axle-less Suspension?
You can absolutely use Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System on a custom trailer application, however the instructions state that the axle-less systems are not recommended for triple applications. With whatever system you end up using, you will want to leave a minimum of 4-7/8 inches of clearance above the tires for the suspension travel. This will allow your to simply remove the existing suspension and axles and add a cross beam or add a piece of 2x3 inch tubing between the axles in the integrated holes.
