Note: Some axles rated at 2,000 lbs require a different seal and bearings. Be sure that the bearings in the hub being replaced have L44643 stamped on them. If the bearings have L44649 stamped on them, use 8-258-5UC1 trailer hub.

Note: Trailer wheels that are smaller than 15" and have 5 bolts, have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I’m restoring and upgrading a 1980’s Dilly motorcycle trailer to make a 2800 mile road trip. The Dexter hubs with new bearings and races was a no brainer. More importantly Etrailer and their stellar customer service made this project so much easier to complete.


Exactly what I needed, delivered promptly and at a competitive price point. I especially appreciated the lug pattern template to ensure what I ordered would fit the wheels I had.


After ordering from parts houses and getting expensive wrong grease seals, for my boat trailer, I found a websit e trailer, I called and talked to Jennifer, she knew what I needed right away, I ordered a hub with races, bearings, grease seals and lug nuts. Jennifer placed the order for me and with end two hours I was notified by email that my order was shipped. The third day my order was delivered to my door. No damage, was packaged very good. And was right parts. I will be using etrailer again. I recommend this co to my friends.

20/20 hindsight tells me I made a bad decision when I got a 20% discount on a display model utility trailer from a large "big box" hardware store here in the Seattle area. Many of the parts were assembled incorrectly, some of the hardware was missing, and they'd adjusted the wheel bearings too tightly which ended up frying one of them and the associated bearing races just during the trip home. The bearing races were integral with the hubs and weren't servicable, so the hub was ruined. And, unfortunately, I didn't end up using the trailer for quite a while and didn't notice all this until after well the warranty had expired.

The trailer was manufactured by a Canadian company and they claimed that, due to US regulatory restrictions, they were currently unable to ship bearings or hubs to the United States. So much for our friends to the north.

Fortunately, the trailer axle was American made, and was able to provide me with everything I needed to make the trailer roadworthy; with higher quality parts and at less cost. And the hubs had lugs, as opposed to the originals with just threaded holes; which makes installing the wheels much easier.

What can I say? I'm now a fan of


This product arrived quickly and fit well. It is of equivalent or better quality than the original hub and bearings on my Snowbear trailer, which had rusted rather badly. I like having studs and lug nuts instead of lug bolts. I also like having it ungreased so I can know what kind of grease I am putting in and not worry about compatibility (lithium vs. calcium, etc.). My only beef is that it should come with a new cotter pin and ideally, a new castle nut to truly be complete.

Thanks to etrailer for listing enough dimensions that I could pick out the correct hub, since the originals had no numbers on them.


Good quality hub, good price, fast shipping. Came with lugs, all bearings, inner races installed, and a double lip marine type grease seal as well as a basic grease cap. The only thing I needed to provide was a cotter pin!

Fast shipping everything listed and pictured is here and in good shape. I would have given 5 stars if the kit had come complete with a cotter pin. No fault of Etrailer as it was not in the parts list. I would just like to see a kit as a complete kit. Overall no complaints its a good deal and I hope to put many miles on it.


nuts hards to spin on, black paint already peeling off.....F paint job, packaged very poorly, bolts taped to hub. so when i pulled off tape, off went paint. bearings are rel nice


Very happy with everything except for that after wasting a lot of time trying to get the grease caps on and still cannot! No matter what I did would not work so they are now in the trash and I need to buy new ones. That is pretty ridiculous in my opinion. Other then that I’m very satisfied but giving this a 1 because buying the complete unit it should all assemble together without problems.


Switched from a 4 lug rim to a 5 lug so I could run a larger tire, already had the rims but needed to change hubs. These hubs worker perfectly, they are of good quality and are well worth the price which is very reasonable. Order processing and shipment was very fast. I have no complains at all. Perfect replacement. Went from a 4 on 4 hubs to a 5 on 4 1/2.


Quick Delivery, went together good, except for the Dust Covers. Could not get either of those things on to save my life. Very Thin Gauge Tin. I had another Heavier Gauge set from other hubs, they went on with no problems.

    Having a larger pilot diameter (center hole) on a trailer wheel is only an issue if the wheels are centered onto the axle using the hub (a hub centric wheel). In this case you would need an exact fit. You know you have a hub centric wheel if your trailer uses wheel bolts to attach the wheel instead of lug nuts. If your trailer is lug centric meaning the wheel is centered on the axle using the lug nuts, then having a larger pilot hole on the wheel is not a problem.

But based on the measurement you took it sounds like you most likely have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern since that is what is the closest bolt pattern to the measurement you took. You can verify this by measuring from the center of one bolt hole to the one adjacent to it, if it measures 2-5/8 inches it's a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

    That bolt pattern is not one that is currently supported by trailer hubs. The bolt pattern closest to that for trailer is 5 on 5-1/2 inch but even that is pretty rare. The hub you mentioned part # 8-258BTUC1 has the very popular bolt pattern of 5 on 4-1/2 inch. I'd have to recommend you go with a trailer wheel and tire like the # AM32395. Trailer hubs like the one mentioned to have wheel size restrictions in some cases.
