Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater

E-Z Lube Design

The E-Z Lube design of this assembly not only makes lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub - 8-258-50UC1-EZ Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to take a look at the Dexter galvanized trailer hub assembly for 2,200 pound E-Z Lube Axles with the five on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Now, this is a marine grade trailer hub assembly that fits idler axles. It includes everything shown here on the table. Comes with the hub assembly, the bearings, both inner and outer bearings, the bearing races, which already pre-installed in the hub. The grease seal, it's a double lip grease seal. The easy lube grease cap, and the zinc coated lug nuts. Now, this hub assembly has a gal-dex zinc plating to it, which has a 500 hour salt spray rating.

It's ideal for use on a boat, or snow mobile trailer. And it is durable enough for salt water applications. Now, this one is actually designed for E-Z Lube Axles. And the E-Z Lube design makes lubricating your bearings very simple. Comes with E-Z Lube caps, so all you have to do is pop open the rubber plug right here.

Once you pop off that rubber plug, with the cap still installed, that's lets you gain access to the zerk fitting on the E-Z Lube spindle. All you have to do is put your grease gun in there, put it on the spindle, and fill it with grease. No disassembly of the hub is required. Very nice, simple system. Now, the application on this is for 2,200 pound axles with the E-Z Lube spindles that require 1-1/2 inch inner diameter grease seal. The hub flange diameter, which is measured from this end to this end, is going to be 6-1/2 inches.

So, it is designed to work with wheels from 13 inches up to 15 inches.Bolt pattern on this hub is five on 4-1/2 inches. Wheel studs are half inch diameter. And the weight capacity on one of these hub assemblies is 1,100 pounds. So, when one of these is used on one side of the axle, and one on the other side, it'll meet your 2,200 pound axle capacity. Now, the bearings that are included, the inner and outer bearing are both the same part number. They are included, it's part number L44649.

Has a 1.063 inner diameter. The race, as mentioned, are also pre installed into the hub. The grease seal that's included, is a double lip grease seal, part number 10-9, has an inner diameter of 1.5 inches, outer diameter of 1.987.The E-Z Lube grease cap we mentioned is included. And then five of the half inch, by 20 size lug nuts, part number X1023R. But that should do it for the review on the Dexter galvanized trailer hub assembly for 2,200 pound E-Z Lube Axles, with the five on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

Hubs were shipped in a timely manner and in good condition. The only complaint I have is one hub came with the wrong size of bearings, I ordered for a 1-1/16" axel but got bearings for1" axel. Using the hubs on a boat trailer and think they should work great. 405500

I inherited an aluminum trailer that ended up needing a complete overhaul and etrailer was the best resource I could have found. After researching extensively to find out what I needed and watching their videos on how to do it I ended up ordering an EZ-lube axle, galvanized hubs, springs and a hanger kit (in other words everything from the frame down). Everything shipped quickly and arrived in great shape. All the parts worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier! 316658

Review is mostly for etrailer; the hubs have only been on the trailer for a coupla days. I got good, helpful info from the sales staff during the purchase and when I found that the grease seal on one of the hubs had lost its spring. They send out a replacement that day and I received it the next day. My experience so far with etrailer has been very good. 633305

I have an older trailer (2003) that needed new parts due to rust and corrosion. After a few questions and answers from the Etrailer experts I ordered the parts I needed and received them a few days later. Everything was correct and fit perfectly. The galvanized hubs look terrific and should last a long time. I now have a reliable trailer for many more years to come. The Etrailer experts make the difference. 158603

Ask the Experts about this Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Hub for E-Z Lube Spindle on Boat Trailer
  • In order to determine if hub assembly 8-258-50UC1-EZ will work for you, first know that this assembly is for EZ Lube spindles that require a grease seal with a 1-1/2" inner diameter such as # RG06-020. You are also going to want to remove the hub and take a look at the bearing numbers to make sure your inner and outer bearings are # L44649. Normally that would be enough, but since you sanded the spindle, I also recommend you use a digital caliper such as # PTW80157 and measure the spindle...

This kit is intended for 2200-lb E-Z Lube axles and wheels from 13- to 15-inches in diameter. In order to determine if this is the correct hub you'll need to verify your axle's weight rating, which should be indicated on a sticker or...

The rubber plug in the center of the grease cap is removable to allow access to the grease zerk. This particular hub can be used if you have a standard spindle with no grease zerk, but a standard hub is available as part # 8-258-50UC1. This hub includes a standard grease cap. Bearing...

The linked page displays our main page for trailer hubs, both idler hubs (no brakes) and hub/drums for drum brake-equipped trailers. What you would want to do is go with the axle part # T20BTR-EZ-7258 that does not have hubs with it and then use the hubs # 8-258-50UC1-EZ that has the larger mounting flange on it and will give you the 2,200 lbs capacity you want in the correct size.
