This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Today we're going to review part number 8-231-50UC1. This is the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly for 5200 pound to 7000 pound axles. It is an 8 on a 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern and it has a GAL-DEX finish. This hub assembly is a galvanized marine grade trailer hub assembly that fits on Idler axles. It includes everything showing here, the bearings, the races which are pre-installed into the hub, the double lift grease seal, the grease cap and the lug nuts. This trailer hub assembly has a GAL-DEX zinc coating that helps resist corrosion and it makes it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer and it's durable enough for salt water applications.
All of the GAL-DEX hubs are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the salt water mist and this 500 hours salt spray rating will indicate that a product is not only durable enough to last in fresh water environments but it can also be used in the salt water environments. Again the application on this hub assembly is 5200 pound, 6000 pound and 7000 pound axles. Again, the bolt pattern, as you can see, is an 8 on 6 1/2 inch bolt pattern. The wheel studs themselves are a 1/2 inch diameter and they are 2 1/4 inches long and they are zinc plated just like the hub assembly. The weight capacity on this one assembly is 3500 pounds, so when used with another one on the other side will get you your maximum capacity of 7000 pounds. It comes with these bearings.
The inner bearing right here, that's marked part number 25580. The inner bearing is the larger bearing of the two. If you notice, it goes on the inside, you'll see the race is pre-installed. The inner bearing would sit right into that race. Take your double lift grease seal, then you would tap that in to hold everything into place.
This is after you've lubed your bearings. You move to the front and again you'd have this bearing lubed, this is the outer bearing part number 140125A. Again, you'll see the race is pre-installed, the outer bearing would drop right into place. On the front, when you slide this over the spindle, the spindle would come through, put your washer on, put your nut, tighten it down to specs, then you'd be ready to go. Take your grease cap, tap that right into place, and then you're all set. All you would have to do is then use the included 8, and again these are zinc coated lug nuts, 8 of them, that you can use to put your wheel tower assembly onto your hub.
These are 1/2 inch design, so again you just put your wheel tower on, tighten it down using these 1/2 inch size lug nuts. That should do it for the review on part number 8-231-50UC1, the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly for 5200 pound to 7000 pound axles with the 8 on 6 1/2 bolt pattern. .

Galvanized idler hub assembly is great for marine use. Fits 5,200-lb, 6,000-lb, and 7,000-lb idler axles with #42 spindles. Inner bearing (25580) and race, outer bearing (14125A) and race, grease seal, grease cap, and galvanized lug nuts included.I ordered two hub assemblies with the bearing races installed, and upon receiving them, found a couple of races pitted and rusted; as well as one lug nut missing (The reason for the four stars is for quality control). Understandably, E-trailer simply asked for a few pictures of the races; and sent replacements out; no questions asked. Can't argue with service like that. They are a company that will make every effort to earn your business and repeat business.
