Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub with Integrated Drum - 8-219-9UC3-A Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the Dexter 12-inch Trailer oil bath hub and drum assembly for 5,200-pound to 7,000-pound axles, with the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. Now this trailer hub and drum assembly are providing the surface area for your brake shoes to grip when your brakes are activated. It is compatible with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. Now this hub and drum is designed for oil bath axles. It does include everything shown here on the table, the hub and drum assembly, both the inner and outer bearings. Now the bearing races are pre-installed. Right here is the outer, and over here is the inner bearing, right Comes with a unitized oil seal, the oil cap and then eight lug nuts.

This is a sturdy iron construction, has a zinc enriched paint on the drum to add durability, and there's a zinc finish on the bolts to help resist corrosion. This is designed to work with the 12" x 2" electric or hydraulic brake assemblies. The specs on this again, it's designed for 5,200-pound to 7,000-pound Dexter axles, with spindles that require a 2-1/4" inside diameter seal. Weight capacity on this one hub and drum is 3,500 pounds, so when one of these is used with one on the other side, it will match the 7,000-pound capacity.Bolt pattern is 8 on 6-1/2". Wheel stud size or wheel diameter is 1/2" x 20". The actual drum dimension we're gonna measure, inside to inside, is 12".

Overall width is right at 2-1/4".Now the bearing race and seal information, all right over here in front of us, start with the outer bearing, it's part number 14125A, has a 1.25" inner diameter. That would go on the outer bearing race, just like that. The larger bearing, the inner bearing, is part number 25580, has a 1.75" inner diameter. That would go right into the inner bearing race, just like that. Now the grease seal, it's a unitized oil seal, part number 10-63 and a diameter of 2.25", outer diameter of 3.376".

That would go on over the inner bearing, once after it's installed. Now the grease cap, that's part number RGO4-230, that has an outer diameter of 2.875". That will go over the outer bearing. It screws in, threads in actually, and if you notice it comes with the rubber O-ring and the rubber plug up there that's used to fill the oil if it gets low. And it does come with eight of the lug nuts, 1/2" x 20" sized lug nuts, part number X1023R.That should do it for the review on the Dexter 12" trailer oil bath hub and drum assembly for 5,200-pound to 7,000-pound axles, with the 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.

Perfect fit. I bought these because I wanted to change my horse trailer from No. 2 wheel bearing grease to No. 00 semi fluid grease. It’s the best characteristics of both grease and oil hubs without the negatives if you ask me. Well I needed a vented hub so the oil bath hubs. A tube and a half later of Schaeffer’s 274 Moly EP synthetic NLGI#00 grease and all bearings packed, hubs half full of grease and everything torqued to spec and I was done. There really is no better place for trailer parts than etrailer. Best prices and fast shipping. 662321

Ask the Experts about this Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Are Oil bath Hubs a Better Option for My 7,000 Lbs Axles Than Using Grease Hubs
  • The main reason people like oil bath hubs over grease hubs is the oil bath hubs have a less involved maintenance schedule than grease hubs. It is recommended to inspect and repack grease wheel bearings and seals every 12k miles. With oil bath hubs, Dexter recommends to periodically check and refill when necessary. It is also recommended to use a high quality hypoid gear oil in SAE 90, 80W-90 or 75W-90 weights. However, periodic inspection of you wheel bearings should not be abandoned...

  • What's Difference Between Trailer Hubs # 8-219-9UC3 and # 8-219-9UC3A
  • The two hubs are very similar but the big difference is the size of the seal that comes with the hubs. The # 8-219-9UC3-A comes with a seal that has an inner diameter of 2.25 inches and the # 8-219-9UC3 comes with a seal that has an inner diameter of 2-1/8 inches. You'd need to measure your current spindle where the seal rides to determine which you'd need.

  • Which Magnet Fits etrailer 12x2 Electric Brakes for 5.2K to 7K Axles and Oil Bath Hub for 7K Axles
  • The magnet used in trailer brake assemblies # AKEBRK-7-SA is magnet # AKBRKR-M12 which you will see they have rated the same as the brake assemblies themselves. So since they are compatible with up to 7K axles you can say they are rated for 7,000 pound axles maximum. We have tow hub and drum assembly kits for 7K oil bath axles. First is # 8-219-9UC3-A and it comes with a 2-1/4 inch diameter seal. The other is # 8-219-9UC3 and it comes with a 2-1/8 inch diameter seal. The oil cap included...

  • Parts Needed to Replace Grease Lube Hubs with Oil Bath Hubs
  • You will not need to replace the brakes on your trailer when converting from grease lube hubs to oil bath hubs. The oil bath hubs that you choose should come with the proper bearings, seal and oil cap for that hub. You will want to check the part numbers on your bearings and seals to ensure you select the correct hubs for your spindles. We carry two oil bath hub and drum assemblies. Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, # 8-219-9UC3-A, fits 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axles with spindles that require...

  • Converting Grease Hubs to Oil Bath Hubs on Fifth Wheel Trailer
  • Since you have bearings # 25580 and # 14125A the entire hub and drum assembly to convert it to oil bath hubs is # 8-219-9UC3-A. These are 8 on 6-1/2, 12 by 2 inch hubs and include the bearings, races, seal, oil cap, wheel bolts and lug nuts. We don't carry the hubs without the bearings. Our prices can be found on the product pages.

  • What is the Correct Bearing Kit for a Dexter Hub and Drum Assembly 8-219
  • There are a few different types of 8-219 hubs, some that take a 2-1/4 inch inner diameter seal and some that take a 2-1/8 inch inner diameter. The bearing kit # BK3-200 you referenced will work with the trailer hub and drum assembly 8-219 as long as the seal diameter is 2-1/4 inches. Check the part numbers on your bearings so you can match them to the correct kit. If your spindle diameter measures 2-1/8 inches where the seal rides using a digital caliper, the bearing kit you need...

Both of these hubs use the bearing set # 25580 inner and # 14125A outer. If your current hubs use this bearing set and if their 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern...

  • Parts Needed to Replace Grease Lube Hubs with Oil Bath Hubs
  • If you had a 3,500 lb axle we sell a kit that would easily convert your hubs to oil bath hubs. But since you have 7,200 lb axles you would have to replace the hubs. The oil bath hubs that you choose should come with the proper bearings, seal and oil cap for that hub.
