Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub - 8-213-5UC1 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take at look at the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub assembly for 5,200 pound and 6,000 pound axles, with the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern. This hub assembly will fit trailer idler axle. Comes with everything shown here on the table. Comes with the hub assembly itself, both the inner and outer bearings. The bearing races are includes, they are pre-installed in the hub assembly already. The grease seal, the grease cap, and the wheel lug nuts are all included. This assembly is a sturdy iron construction.

It is made in the USA. The application is for 5,200 pounds to 6,000 pound trailer axles. The wheel size that'll fit on this is 16 inches and larger. The hub flange diameter, which is measured from this end to this end is seven and a half inches. Bolt pattern again is six on five and a half inches.

The wheel stud diameter is half inch, and the weight capacity on this one assembly is 3,000 pounds, so when this is used with one on the other side of the axle, it'll meet the 6,000 pound axle capacity. Now, the bearings that are included. The inner bearing, the larger one is part number 2558O, has a 1.75 inner diameter. That'll go onto the inner bearing race just like that. The outer bearing, which is a smaller one. It's part number LM67048, has a 1.25 inner diameter.

That'll go on the outer bearing race just like that. Bearing race as we mentioned are all pre-installed.The seal it comes with is a Double Lip Grease Seal, part number 10-10, has an inner diameter of 2.125 inches, and an outer diameter of 3.376 inches. That'll go in the back after your bearing's installed and you've pressed your seal in just like that. And then on the outside it comes with the grease cap, part number F001520. Has a flange diameter of 2.44 inches, and after your outer bearing is installed in there, then you put your cap on just like that.It does come with six of the half inch by 20 sized lug nuts, part number X1023R.

That should do it for the review on the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub assembly for 5,200 pounds and 6,000 pound axles, with the six on five and a half inch bolt pattern.

I searched for what seemed like forever to find a fix for my mobile home trailer axles. I bought a homemade trailer and was needing new tires, they were and odd size 14.5... and I needed new bearings too. The axles were 5200 lb axles. The wheels had a very bad wobble and I felt like I was going to spend a lot money to make a temporary fix. There was so much conflicting information on these axles and compatibility of replacement parts. I bought these hubs and hoped for the best. They fit perfectly! I'm very pleased. I ordered them last night and they arrived this afternoon! Overnight shipping?! Also the costumer service was amazing!! I asked so many questions and felt like i was talking to a friend i've known my whole life. 725529

I bought these hub assemblies to replace the ones that came with the boat trailer. Since they were installed I live 50 miles south of Chicago. The trailer has been to Okeechobee Fl. 2 times, also Chetek Wisconsin 3 times. When traveling ,every time I stop for eats or fuel I feel the hubs. The hubs are always just a few degrees above ambient. PS I also installed S.S. bearing buddy's, from E Trailer. 529752

Quality Dexter product! These are to replace a brand new set of hubs installed by a trailer shop on my boat trailer. They installed cheap, Chinese made hubs and bearings which lasted just less than 1200 miles before one side completely failed. I installed both of these Dexter hubs and bearings last night and discovered the other side was probably very close behind. Comparing the two brands, it was obvious the Dexter products were far superior in machining, fit, finish and overall construction. 428180

I had the bearing numbers from the original hub and I couldn't locate them on the website - probably because I wasnt searching right. So I figured I would give etrailer a call. Sure enough, they found the exact match and sent me the info I needed for ordering. Awesome customer service and this was the easiest swap from old mobile home hubs to a modern hub with radial tires. Not to mention that the price was affordable and definitely the lowest around. I feel like I got a great deal and an awesome product. The trailer rides so smooth now and looks much better. Thank you etrailer. I'll definitely be back in the future. 397338

I have a utility trailer that I have had for over 25 years. It had a mobile home axle on it with Dayton style hubs and 14.5. inch rims and tires. I wanted to change over to a more traditional hubs and wheels. The help from Sam G was great. I gave him the part number of outside and inside bearings and he found me the hub that fit my spindle. The delivery was fast. One of the bearings came bent but replacement was not an issue. The description of the hub only showed it was for 16" rims but Sam found a 15" rim that worked. - Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" Rim - 6 on 5-1/2 - Black Pictures sent to Sam in email. 318099

This seems to be a good quality hub. I haven't gotten the opportunity to install as circumstances have conspired against me so far but I'm sure it will work perfectly. The real bright spot is that there was a minor problem with my order and Rebecca and George were very quick to respond. They got everything fixed with absolutely no hassle! The level of customer service has proven to me that the staff at etrailer.com are willing to do everything possible to find the right solution for the customer. I will definitely be shopping with etrailer.com again!! 317280

These idler hubs are great! Very happy with them. I have used the trailer several times and there haven’t been any issues. Finally no more squeaking and squealing from bad bearings and hubs.

Product looks good, and well made. Trying to convert a trailer house axle however didn't fit my application. Knew I would need to make bearing sleeves but when arrived I found my spindle wasn't long enough. So had to order spindles to match. Also was planning on using rims off a 2006 chevy Silverado however they won't work because of the center hole needs to be larger. Older Chevy rims made for 4WD should work. Center hole should be around 4-4.5". For future reference, measure length of your spindles as well as bearing and seal diameters. A mention of spindle length needed as well as the center diameter of the hub would be a good things to add to description. Great people to work with. Very friendly and knowledgeable. In shipping a bearing and cap was destroyed. They took care of it right away. No pictures, no explanation needed. 311119

I have home built trailer with a mobile home axle on it. Getting tires for was getting harder to find and they were unable to balance them. I got replacement hubs, bearings, wheels and tire from etrailer. They arrived in 3 days. An hour after they arrived I had them instaled. The seals didn't match but the old seals were in good shape so I used them. The dust covers did not fit so I used the old ones there. I think it is just very hard to get everything to match up on those axles. I am very happy with the results. Rose at etrailer was very helpful on my initial call too. I have since placed another order for hubs, wheels and tires for an other trailer I am repairing. Thank you Rose for your help. . 304566

Shipped very quickly and arrived sooner than expected. Everything in the picture was included. Only gave 4 stars cause they should include a pack of grease because the bearing will need to be packed before installing. 303102

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Replacement Hub Needed for Lippert 122093 Hub on 5,200 lbs Axle
  • If you are needing the hub and drum assembly then you will want to go with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-5UC3-EZ but if you are just looking for an idler hub then you will want part # 8-213-5UC1 instead. These come with the correct bearings that you need for your spindle but you will need to also purchase the correct Grease Seal, part # RG06-070, as the seal that comes with either hub is slightly too small. I have confirmed these parts with my contact at Lippert to make...

  • Replacement Hubs With Bearings 25580 and LM67048 and Brakes Which Fit
  • To replace your idler hubs with a hub and drum for electric brakes, what you can do is use Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-201-5UC3 and replace its grease seal with # GS-2250DL, which has the same outer diameter as your current seal so it will work for you. This hub has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern so finding wheels to fit should be no problem. The idler hub assembly would be # 8-213-5UC1. The hub and drum takes 12" brake assemblies, and the electric brakes that will work are #...

  • Thank you for providing your trailer hub's bearing numbers. These are what is needed to select a replacement that will fit on your existing spindles. We actually have six different hubs that use your inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # LM67048. These include both idler type hubs like # 8-213-5UC1 and also hub/drums like # 8-201-5UC3-EZ. All displayed hubs that use these bearings are rated for either 5200-lb axles or 6000-lb axles. Most use the popular 6-on-5-1/2 wheel bolt pattern...

  • 3,500 lb Timbren Axle Less Kit with 4 inch Lift Recommendatio for Trailer
  • We can certainly help you pick out a 3,500 lb Timbren kit with a lift kit like the part # ASR35HDS02 which fits the bill. But the only way this would increase your trailer's weight capacity is if this was the limiting factor for your trailer's current capacity. You're only as strong as your weakest component so you'd need to verify that everything else on your trailer is rated for 3,500 lb to ensure you'd get the full capacity of this kit. This also has a 4 inch lift like you wanted...

If Item # LM67048 is the outer bearings size then we have a few options depending on the inner bearings size. We don't carry a hub that fits # 25580 inner bearing and # LM67048 outer bearing wth a 5 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. With that pattern I'm guessing you have a mobile home axle. I recommend upgrading to the 6 lug hubs and replacing your wheels as well. Part # 8-201-5 is a hub and drum assembly and you mentioned you're looking for idler hubs. If you want the entire hub assembly, we have the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb Axles - 6 on 5-1/2 # 8-213-5UC1 or the hub and drum assembly # 8-201-5.

  • Can Dexter 8-213-5UC1 Hub Replace Dexter 8-133 Hub
  • I spoke with my contact at Dexter to find the bearing and seal information on the 8-133 hub. She confirmed that the 8-133 hub uses inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # LM67048 with the 10-1 # GS-2125DL grease seal. These match with the hub you referenced # 8-213-5UC1. The Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-213-5UC1 will work well for you.

  • Replacement Spindle for 6,000 Pound Axle
  • The spindle where your grease seal sits should be smooth as you mentioned. It looks like a bearing probably blew on your hub to cause that type of damage on the spindle. Your only option will be to replace the spindle or the entire axle. If you have a 6,000 pound axle, the only spindle we have available is the Redline # AS3000F. This spindle uses the # 29749 inner bearing and # LM67048 outer bearing so you will want to make sure this matches up to your current hubs. Just note that the replacement...

  • Replacement Grease Seal for Boat Trailer Hub
  • The grease seal in the back of your hub should be a snug fit; otherwise grease could escape and leave your bearings without sufficient lubrication. You should be able to find a part number on the grease seal itself to help you locate the correct replacement. The seal's outer diameter should be a snug fit with the hub's inner bore. You can measure the rear hub bore with a caliper like # PTW80157 to determine the correct outer diameter for the seal; and you can measure the spindle where the...

  • Replacement Wheel Studs for 6k Rated Trailer Hub with 6 Lug Bolt Pattern
  • It's hard to say for certain which studs you'd need. But there's a great chance you have a 6 lug Dexter hub like the part # 8-213-5UC1 which uses the replacement studs part # 7-122. This is a 1/2 inch diameter stud that measures 2 inches in length. For a 1/2 inch stainless steel acorn lug nut we have the part # KALN1375S which would work well.

  • Replacement Idler and Hub Drum Using LM67048 and 25580 Bearings with 2.25 I.D. Grease Seal
  • It sounds like you have two 5200 or 6000 lb capacity axles with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. If this is the case, we have some hubs that will work for you. If you have EZ lube spindles, you would need the # 8-213-5UC1-EZ idler hub, and the # 8-201-5UC3-EZ hub/ drum. If you have standard spindles, you would need the # 8-213-5UC1 idler hub, and the # 8-201-5UC3 hub/ drum. The hubs include bearings, races, a grease seal and dust cap but the included grease seal will have the wrong inside...

  • Which Wheels Fit On Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-213-5UC1
  • When fitting wheels to a Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly, # 8-213-5UC1, you would need to measure the wheels you are trying to use. You would measure the bolt pattern, the center hole diameter, and the stud size. To measure the bolt circle on a 6 lug application you would measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the bolt hole directly across from it. So on the Dexter hub you referenced that measurement would have to be 5.5 inches. I have included a link to our FAQ article...

  • Recommended Hubs for 5200-lb Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System
  • Timbren does offer two 5200-lb-rated axle-less suspension systems that can be seen by clicking on the link provided. These accept either 6-on-5-1/2 idler hub # 8-213-5UC1-EZ or hub/drum assembly # 8-201-5UC3-EZ if your trailer will have brakes. Please note that these systems may require reinforcement of the trailer frame. These hubs' bolt pattern is slightly different than your Ford F-150's 6-bolt hubs. The two are not interchangeable and odds are that your wheels would not fit, or at...

  • Hub that Fits Trailer Axle with Bearing Dimensions of 1.25 and 1.75 inch
  • The bearing dimensions you mentioned match the standard number 42 trailer spindle so we can easily fit a hub to your axles. Only issue is none of the hubs that will fit have the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you are wanting as that's a bolt pattern for lower capacity axles. You have to go with an idler hub like the part # 8-213-5UC1 which has a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Available Hubs That Use Bearings 25580 and LM67048
  • We do have hubs that use your same set of bearings, parts # 25580 and # LM67048. Please note that both of these bearings can be used as an inner bearing or as an outer bearing so you will want to be sure which part goes where as you review our range of hubs shown on the linked page. As examples, if the inner bearing is 25580 and the outer bearing is LM67048 we have compatible 6-lug hubs such as hub/drum # 8-201-5UC3-EZ which is rated for 5200-lb axles and idler hub # 8-213-5UC1. You...

  • Replacement Hubs With Bearing Numbers 25580 and LM67048
  • The bearing LM67028 is likely # LM67048, which has an inner diameter of 1.250", though you'll want to measure using a digital caliper to make sure they are the same. We do have idler hubs that use # LM67048 as the outer bearing and # 25580 as the inner bearing. Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-213-5UC1 uses those bearings along with grease seal # GS-2125DL which has a 2.125" inner diameter. This assembly has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern and is for 5,200 lb to 6,000 lb axles. The...

  • Replacement Hubs to Fit Bearings 25580 and LM67048 with 5-Spoke Utility Bolt Pattern
  • The only 5-spoke utility hub we carry is part # 8-174-5UC3 which is a hub and drum assembly. The bearing numbers are # 25580 and # 15123. Obviously this is a different outer bearing number than what you have but it has the same inner diameter as # LM67048 so it still fits your spindles and will work for you. We don't carry an idler hub with that bolt pattern. If you want to use and idler hub on one axle and a hub and drum assembly on the other you do have the option of changing your...

  • Replacement Hubs for a 2003 Venture Boat Trailer Model 2250 with 6-Lug Hubs
  • I did a little research and found that your 2003 Venture Boat trailer model 2250 has a capacity of 2,250 pounds but the 6-lug hubs and bearing information I found indicate that it uses hubs normally seen on 5,200 pound axles. Since you have a boat trailer you might be interested in Kodiak hub # KH42655S which is stainless steel so it won't corrode. It uses inner bearing 25580 and outer bearing 15123. Another option is hub # 8-213-5UC1 which uses the same inner bearing but a different...

  • Will # 8-213-5UC1 and # 8-231-9UC1-EZ Hubs Fit the Same Spindle
  • Although both hubs you mention use a different outer bearing, the inside diameter of those different bearings is the same, so both hubs CAN be used on the same spindle. The outer diameter and thickness of both bearings is different, so the bearings cannot be swapped back and forth between the two different hubs. A 5200 lb axle is a de-rated 6000 lb axle. Therefore, swapping to the higher rated # 8-231-9UC1-EZ hub won't necessarily increase the capacity of your trailer. You'll be limited...

  • How to Identify Correct Replacement Bearings for Dexter Hub on Recreational Vehicle
  • The Dexter hub part number prefix 8-201 could refer to many items and includes many possible weight capacities. So the best way to go is to pull one hub, remove the bearings and find their stamped part numbers. If you happen to know the axle's weight rating that will allow you to narrow things down if you refer to the linked article. This article lists the most common bearing sets used based on axle weight rating. Still, the best and most fool-proof way to go is to pull one hub and...

  • Parts for Lugged Hubs on a Mobile Home Axle with 15123 inner and 25880 Outer Bearings
  • It sounds like you have a spindle that uses the Inner Trailer Hub Bearing, item # 25580, that has a 1.750 inch inner diameter. The outer # 15123 bearing has a 1.250 inch inner diameter. I would check the seal surface on the spindle to be sure that it matches the # RG06-070 seal inner diameter of 2.250 inches. Many times mobile home axles use non- standard parts so careful measurement of all of the parts is required. If all of these dimensions match, then you will need to determine whether...

  • Hub Size and Axle Weight Rating to Fit Bearings 25580 and LM67048
  • Based on the bearing sizes # 25580 and # LM67048, there are two possible hubs that will fit. The first has a wheel bolt pattern of 6 on 5-1/2 and fits axles rated for 5,200 lbs to 6,000 lbs. This hub can be purchased with the standard hub assembly # 8-213-5UC1 or the E-Z Lube axle hub assembly # 8-213-5UC1-EZ. Your bearing combination indicates that your axle capacity is 5,200 lbs. The other hub option has a bolt pattern of 6 on 6 and fits axles rated for 6,000 lbs. This hub can...

  • Can Hubs be Replaced with Hub and Drum Assemblies on a Mobile Home Axle
  • Mobile home axles are meant for one-time use only according to the manufacturer. I advise against continuing to use them. Also, there isn't a hub and drum assembly that would fit (unless the inner and outer bearings on the axle are standard. I would have to know the bearing numbers to check). It might actually be more cost effective to replace the axles with some that come with hubs and drums and electric brakes. That way you get all new parts that are all standard and compatible with...

  • Replacement Hubs Based on Tapered Spindle Measurements
  • If you give me the tapered spindle measurements like in the attached photo, I can help you get the replacement hubs you need. I need the measurements at letter B where the seal sits, letter C where the inner bearing rides, and letter D where the outer bearing rides. The only other thing I will need is bolt pattern and whether you want idler hubs, drum brakes, or disc rotors. I've attached an article to assist with bolt pattern to match your wheels.
