Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This trailer hub assembly has a zinc coating that resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat or snowmobile trailer. All GAL-DEX hubs undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 500 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 500-hour salt spray rating indicates that a product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

E-Z Lube-Compatible Hub for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Dexter Axle Trailer Hubs and Drums - Hub - 8-213-51UC1-EZ Review

Today we're going to review part number 8-213-51UC1-EZ. This is the Dexter Trailer Hub assembly for six thousand pound E-Z Lube Axles with a six on five and a half inch bolt pattern and a galvanized finish. This is a marine grade trailer hub assembly that will fit Idler axles. It includes everything showing here on the table and includes both bearings, the inner and the outer bearing. The races are all preinstalled. You can see inside on the outer and the inner. It comes with the grease seal.

The grease seal after your bearing is put in on the inner you can put the grease seal in right over that. It comes with the grease cap and because this is going to fit on an E-Z Lube Axle because it has this grease zerk fitting on the end of spindle, you want a cap that you can access that zerk fitting so this is the E-Z lube cap that has the rubber plug that you can actually pop out and have access to that zerk fitting. It also comes with six of the half inch lug nuts that are used to hold the wheel and tire to this hub. Now this hub assembly has a zinc plating. It has a five hundred hour salt spray rating. It is ideal for use on a boat or a snowmobile trailer and it is durable enough for saltwater applications.

The E-Z lube design as I mentioned makes lubricating the bearings very simple. Once this slides on to the axle, onto the spindle at the end of the spindle is a zerk fitting. Once everything's attached, then you would pump that grease through that zerk fitting and it would fill up your bearings. The specs on this, the application is it fits six thousand pound axles. The bolt pattern you can see is a six lug five and a half inch bolt pattern. The wheel studs themselves are a half inch diameter.

They use the half inch lug nuts that are included. They're about two and a quarter inches long. The weight capacity on just one of these assemblies is three thousand pounds so when you use two of them on the axle that gets you your six thousand pound axle rating. Now the bearings that are included is the inner bearing is a part number 25580, which is marked right on here. The outer bearing is a 15123 which is also stamped on there. The races as I mentioned, the inner and outer races is all preassembled 00:02:23 or preinstalled on into the hub.

The grease seal is part number 10-36 and again six of the half inch lug nuts, but that should do it for the review on part number 8-213-51UC1-EZ, the Dexter Hub assembly for six thousand pound E-Z Lube Axles. .

Great product, bought four of these for my RV upgrade to electric over hydraulic disc brake system. Dexter is the way to go and etrailer is a reliable and reasonable parts resource. 598805

I saw several poor reviews for etrailer and almost didn't order. Boy, what a mistake that would have been! The whole process couldn't have been better. The order shipped almost immediately and I was sent emails updating me about delivery twice. My hubs arrived in perfect condition and my Chris Craft will be heading to the coast shortly. The price worked for me, and free shipping on my order was a treat. I will have no problem ordering from etrailer in the future. 209407

Had the hubs on the trailer for a year. Unfortunately for me, shortly thereafter I suffered a stroke and just pulled the trailer two weeks ago for the first time. Everything worked fine. I will probably order another as a spare for some long trips.

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hubs and Drum?

  • Dexter Axle Hub Conversion for 14.5 Inch or 15 Inch Wheels on Equipment Trailer
  • Thanks for the information on your trailer. For your axle with brakes I recommend the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K if you have the spindles with the integrated grease zerk. If you have standard spindles, I recommend # AKHD-655-6-K which have the standard grease cap instead. These assemblies will fit perfectly with your axles based on the bearing and seal information you gave as well as 14.5 inch wheels. Then...

  • Replacement Hub for Tie Down Engineering 81091
  • Yes, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-213-51UC1-EZ will work as a direct replacement for your Tie Down Engineering 81091 hub. Based on my research your 81091 hub is rated to be used on 6,000 lb axles, has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern, uses Inner Bearing # 25580, Outer Bearing # 15123 and Grease Seal # GS-2250DL. This is also what the galvanized Dexter Hub # 8-213-51UC1-EZ uses so it will work as a replacement.

  • Recommended Compatible Hubs for Use with Timbren Off-Road Suspension System ASR35HDS02
  • In order to use 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern hubs on a Timbren axle-less suspension system those hubs will have to use the same bearing set as the hubs intended for that system. In the Timbren system # ASR35HDS02, for example, which has 4-inches of lift and is rated for 3500-lbs and off-road tires, the bearing set is inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123. We do offer idler hubs and hub/drums in the 6-on-5-1/2-inch bolt pattern that you can see by clicking on the link provided....

  • Idler Hub for Use on Tie Down Axle Part 46648 from Venture Trailer
  • I was able to find some details about the Venture square axle part 46648 in my research. This square axle is indeed rated for 5200-lbs, is 98-inches long overall including spindles, is galvanized and works with spring centers of 72- or 75-inches. A bit more digging allowed me to determine the bearings required for the included spindle are inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123. Since these are the same bearings used in the hub # 8-213-51UC1-EZ it will fit on your spindles. This...

  • How to Determine Trailer Axle Rating from Axle Diameter and Bearings Used in Hubs
  • Often an axle's weight rating will appear on a sticker or plate on the axle beam itself, or sometimes the trailer's main identification sticker will include axle ratings. This is helpful unless of course the axles have been replaced during the trailer's lifetime. Axle diameter can get us at least in the right weight capacity neighborhood. An axle with 3-inch diameter typically has a 6K or 7K weight rating. One that is 3-1/2-inches in diameter is usually rated for 8K. In rare instances...

  • Can a Hub/Drum Be Switched Out For An Idler Hub On a 6,000 Lb Trailer Axle
  • Yes, you can replace the hub/drum that you have on your trailer with a standard idler hub assembly. In order to determine if the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # 8-213-51UC1-EZ is correct you will need to verify that your spindle uses a 25580 (1.75" inner diameter) inner bearing, a 15123 (1.25" inner diameter) outer bearing, and a GS-2250DL (2.25" inner diameter) grease seal. This may require you to read part numbers or measure to verify. If the above is true then you will be...
