Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Video Transcript for etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Honda Odyssey

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Honda Odyssey, we're going to be taking a look at and I'm going to show you how to install the etrailer.com class III trailer hitch receiver, part number E98862. This is what our hitch looks like when it's installed. You can see the cross tube is visible, but it's a round tube design, so it's going to fit nicely with the contour of the vehicle. The end of the receiver tube is nice and tucked in under the bumper fascia, so we're not going to have to worry about hitting our legs or our shins on it when we're loading or unloading the vehicle. One thing I really like about this hitch is the finish. Etrailer has done a great job with it.

It's going to have a triple coated carbide black powder coat finish, so it's really going to work well in resisting rust and corrosion. This hitch is going to be a class III hitch. It's going to be 2" x 2". The hitch pin hole is going to be 5/8" in diameter. It's going to take a standard 5/8" hitch pin, which does not come with our hitch, but you can find one on our website, using part number PC3. You can see it's going to have plate style safety chain loops.

It's welded to the bottom of the receiver tube and to the bottom of the cross tube. You can see the holes are a nice size in diameter. It's going to give you plenty of room for different size books. As far as the weight capacity goes with this hitch, you're going to have a 350 pound max tongue weight, which is the downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. You're going to have a 3500 found max trailer weight, which is the trailer plus anything that's loaded on it. You can use weight distribution with this hitch.

The tongue weight's going to go up to 500 pounds, the trailer weight's going to go up to 5000 pounds. I always recommend checking the owner's manual of the Odyssey to make sure the vehicle can withstand that amount of weight. You want to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. As far as the installation goes with this hitch, it is a very simple installation. One thing I do recommend is make sure you clean out the weld nuts that are in the frame rails very well before trying to put your hardware in. Now let's give you a few measurements to help you when deciding on any hitch mount accessory you may need, such as a bike rack, ball mount, or cargo carrier.

From hitch pit and hole to the outermost part of the bumper, going to be about 4 1/2". From the ground to the top innermost part of the receiver tube is about 13".Now let me show you how to get this installed. The first thing we need to do is start our installation. We're going to remove this panel, it's on our driver's side behind the rear tire. You're going to have three pushpin fasteners that we need to remove. Take a flat head screwdriver or a plastic trim panel tool and make sure that the base comes out with it. We're going to take a 10 mm socket and we're going to have one bolt we need to remove. Just toward the outside of the vehicle, you'll notice a Phillips head screw and you'll also remove that. Once you have everything loose, go ahead and remove our trim panel piece. The next thing we want to do, is we need to, on our driver's side here, we're going to have two weld nuts we're going to be using. One of the holes we're going to be putting a bolt in. What we need to do is we to clean our weld nuts out.Even though this was covered, I'm going to go ahead and clean these out anyway, and you want to do this on both sides. This side again was covered, so it's probably not going to have too much in it. I'm going to clean them out anyway. I'm going to show you a trick on cleaning out the other side. Use a nylon tube brush, and some cleaner. Most of the time that will work enough to get them clean, but sometimes the tube brush is not stiff enough to get all of the stuff out of the inside. For instance, on the passenger side of the vehicle those we're not covered, so there's quite a bit of stuff inside those threads. Anyway, once we get the threads cleaned out on the one side, you take your hardware, thread it up in there, and you just want to make sure you can thread it in there by hand.On our passenger side, you can see how much stuff is up inside of those. So what I'm going to do is, I'm going to spray them just like I did on the other side, take my tube brush, and try to get out as much as I can here. For somebody's who doesn't do this kind of work all the time, you may not have a tap and die set. You can actually make your own tap to clean out your holes. You just want to make sure that the bolt is the same size bolt and same thread count. So what you're going to do with the bolt is you're going to cut a couple of grooves in it. You can use a Dremel tool with a cutting blade on it. Then we'll take this and we'll thread it up inside and it will clean our threads. You may have to run it up and down in there a couple of times to get it all cleaned out. Once it's cleaned out, you take one of your bolts from your hardware kit and you should be able to thread it in with your fingers.Next you're going to have one carriage bolt in your kit. It's going to look like this. You're going to have a spacer block and you're going to have a wire. It's a pull wire. It's going to have a spring end on it. On our driver's side, you have your two weld nuts, you're going to have an open hole. We're actually going to be pulling it through this hole. We're going to send our spacer block and our bolt right up through this hole and come out of this one. How we do that is, you take your pull wire, spring end, go through the hole you want to pull it out of. Go like that, spacer block first, push it up there, and we'll take our carriage bolt and thread it on. Lift it up in the hole and then pull it down like that. We'll go ahead and leave the wire attached for now.Next thing we're going to do is we're going to have four bolts that are going to go into the weld nuts that we cleaned out. They're going to look like this. You're going to have four chronic tooth washers. You want to make sure that the teeth are going to be facing the hitch. You want this flat part to be against the head of the bolt. Next we'll put our hitch in place. We're going to take the passenger side, we're going to guide it right up over the top of the exhaust like that. We're just going to let our exhaust hold it. Come over to our driver's side. We're going to take our pull wire, go on to the corresponding hole, which is going to be the very back hole on the driver's side, because remember we're going to have three over here. Then we'll go ahead and put in one of our bolts with our washers on it. That'll hold our hitch on that side. Now we'll go ahead and put one on our passenger side. That'll help hold our hitch up while we put our remaining hardware in.We'll remove our pull wire and we'll add a flange nut. Now if you'll notice, this moves it. Then you'll take your finger and put a pressure on the bolt or you can take a flathead screwdriver to push on it. Either way this'll help get this on a little bit easier. We'll take a 19 mm socket and tighten everything up. The last thing we need to do is to torque everything to specifications in the instructions. We're ready to go.That'll do it for the look at and installation On the etrailer.com Class III trailer hitch receiver, part number E98862 on our 2015 Honda Odyssey.

great hitch, but third bolt on left side was impossible to put in, at least on my 2009 odyssey. treads on rest was perfect in Florida weather didn't need to extra thread it 657344

When a trailer hitch is constructed, the manufacturer uses softer steel in the side plates as opposed to the harder steel used in the crossbar and receiver tube. This allows the hitch to flex along with the vehicle to a certain degree. This flexibility can also allow the hitch to get slightly bent out of position during shipping and handling which can cause the bolt holes to be misaligned. The good news is that its very easy to fix this if you know a few tricks as shown in the linked article. All the mounting locations need to be utilized in order for the hitch to be used safely.

Great, straight forward installation. I debated between the 'hidden' version and the bar version. As far as I can tell from pictures, the OEM hitch is hidden in the center area, but the sides stick down similar to this style, so it's doesn't look that clean. There is a Draw Tite 76025 version that looks to be hidden on the sides as well which gives the cleanest look, but a lot more effort to remove the bumper, etc. This one isn't very noticeable, and hey, it's a mini-van - convenience is more important than looks. I don't believe the Draw Tite gets the hitch up any higher, looking at all the other videos, pictures, etc. So I opted for the etrailer version instead of the Curt, as the price was a bit better. I debated whether I should put the rear end up on floor jacks to give me a bit more room. Feeling lazy, I didn't, and probably should have just to give me a bit more working room. Couple notes that might help - Removing the drivers side underbody panel (that you can discard when finished or reinstall), there's a step where you unscrew a Phillips screw that is tucked in the wheel well. My minivan has the black plastic mudflaps, and even though there is a hole through them to access that screw, I removed the mudflaps - made it way easier to get to (and re-install - I chose to trim the plastic fitting and re-install). Also, on the passenger side, you can work around the exhaust pipe, but it's kind of in the way - I should have pulled it off the hangers (see the Curt hitch video) - would have saved a few curse words and socket extensions, etc. Don't forget the bristle brush to clean the weld nuts. Also, thread the bolts in once without the hitch in place, to make sure they'll go in smoothly. Overall, a pretty easy project to complete. One other plus - the fish-wire bolt installation is brilliant - it does go in as easy as the video shows, and works great. My only complaint is that I wish I had a hoist... :) Good luck! 647022

Installed the hitch tonight. I did need some extra tools to complete the job and went back and forth to the store until I had all of the right stuff: Fastener Remover tool Wire brush After that, it was a very easy install. The videos on the website were clear and concise, this was the reason that this website is so key!! This was a great purchase along with the trailer light kit, also an easy install with the great instructional video! 580685

Box was a bit damaged, no big deal... everything else was great. Firstly the customer service when you make the order! Amazing and perfect X10! Online vs calling? Calling expedites the shipment by one day. And the customer service people who answer the phone are very happy and pleasant type of people that answer questions like they know what they are talking about and with opinion. I installed the hitch and it took 20 or maybe 15 minutes... The video is almost exact. If I made the installation vid / I would fine-tune a couple of minor points. It is heavy and awkward to hold when beneath the van while threading the bolts...getting a friend to help is suggested for this reason and to have beers with after. A stubby Phillips is mandatory to take the panel off / no work around this? Get a stubby and a friend is what is missing from the vid. I recommend your company to every one including my granny.Thank you! 536791

Works well, looks sharp. Install was relatively painless. I do wish it extended further to the edge of our odyssey's bumper. But whether this is an issue depends on your attached equipment. So check the measurement specs carefully. Very helpful videos and tutorials here at etrailer, thanks a bunch. 536701

The original hitch arrived packed loosely in plastic and was damaged with lots of scrapes and exposed metal. I contacted customer service and they sent a second hitch with no questions asked. The second hitch arrived well packed in a cardboard box with bracing inside. The hitch was is excellent condition. It took me a little under an hour to install the hitch myself from opening the box to putting away the tools. You can install the hitch without lowering the exhaust, but you have to be a little creative with the wrench angles. I was also able to reinstall the plastic fairing on the drivers side by trimming it back a bit to get around the hitch. There's a little reinforcing rib that is perfect to cut along.Overall I am pleased with the hitch (we'll see how it goes through a few winters though) and the ease of installation. While the condition of the first hitch was disappointing, I am happy with how the situation was handled. 536762

I ordered the hitch receiver to attach a bike rack to our '08 Honda Odyssey. I got tired of the marks the bike tires and pedals left on the vehicle due to rubbing with our old rack. The hitch receiver was delivered very quickly and installation was simple. The installation videos posted on etrailer.com were helpful and accurate. The printed instrutions included with the product were clear and accurate to my vehicle. It took me about 35 minutes to get the hitch installed. The qaulity of the hitch receiver exceeds my current needs as I am only attaching a bike rack and not towing anything heavy, but it seems to be extremely well-constructed. The steel seems to be very heavy-duty and all of the welds look to be well-done. 536761

2012 Honda Odyssey

It fits Honda Odyssey 2012 just perfect. The installation is very easy if you follow my advice. DO NOT REMOVE THE EXHAUST!!!!!! You have enough room to slide the hitch trailer in without removing anything. I did remove it by instructions and it was impossible to put it back with the Trailer Hitch Receive mounted. I wasted 30 minutes trying to put everything back together. Etrailer should rewrite the instructions. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with this product. 536792

2010 Honda Odyssey

Easiest thing ever to install. This is my 3rd purchase of a trailer hitch from eTrailer (2004 Nissan Xterra, 2010 Honda Accord, 2007 Honda Odyssey). It probably took 20 minutes from start to finish. Holes line up perfectly, video was perfectly done to make sure I did what I was supposed to. There is no drilling required. Just spray some WD-40 in the holes, clean with a bristle-brush (I used an old baby bottle-cleaning brush - the small one) and screw them in. I found it was helpful to disconnect the rubber mount from the tailpipe. It doesn't move very much, but it's just enough to slide the mount in to place. If you're installing it alone, do yourself a favor and balance the other side on a bucket. You can try and be a "man", but you'll get tired pretty quickly while trying to hold a 50 lb hitch and screw in a bolt with one hand!Hitch is very low profile and SOLID. UPS beat the box up pretty badly, but it didn't damage the hitch at all. I would recommend etrailer.com to anyone and everyone. What at great line of products, and fast shipping! (NOTE: You need to have a torque wrench for any of these installations! Borrow one or buy one, but you NEED it) 536785

Order was delivered in timely manner and in appropriate packaging.I did the installation myself, with a few ordinary tools, following the directions. The fit was perfect, and everything went fluidly. Went back and tightened the bolts again a week later, before our long weekend road trip.Used it for a 5 hour roundtrip camping trip with a hitch-mounted 4-bike rack. The hitch and bike rack worked great, solidly.Would buy again and buy from etrailer.com again. 536808

2011 Honda Odyssey

This review pertains only to the hitch that I installed on my 2010 Honda Odyssey. The hitch was arrow straight, nothing twisted or offset in the welding. The bolt mated to the wire lead required to pull it through the frame perfectly and slid into place with ease. The hardware included everything that I needed. Installation was literally so easy that I did it with my 11 year old son. I can't fathom having paid the additional $80 that it would have cost for local purchase and installation as I was able to chase the threads and install the hitch in well under an hour. A few things to note: If your vehicle has been on the road for a few years, as mine has, you are very likely going to need to purchase a tap to clean the threads in the frame where the bolts mount. An M12 x 1.25 tap will run you 6 bucks on Amazon, plus a bit extra if you need a driver to go with it. The hitch is just as heavy as you think it will be. I used a floor jack to lift it into place, but if you don't have one you'll want a friend to help here. I only needed to remove the rear most exhaust hanger. The video will tell you to drop that plus the one in front of it, but in my case that wasn't necessary. 569707

The product is fine but the instructions do not emphasize enough how seriously you may need to clean out the rusty threads under your vehicle in order to mount the hitch. Do yourself a favor and watch the video on cleaning out the threads. I’m pretty handy and it turned into a mess when one bolt broke off inside the vehicle and another nut broke loose from the chassis. Get a $3.00 battery terminal cleaner and some rust remover to prep the area before installing. Work the bolt in and out slowly WITHOUT trying to initially mount the hitch. Spend time under the vehicle just working on the rust without the hitch hanging down over you. I suggest spraying the area and let the chemicals work for a while. The primary goal when setting out on this project should be to get bolts to go smoothly into place. Finally, if you can’t get the bolts moving smoothly (by working them in and out) beware and don’t apply too much force. Stop and consider having a mechanic install the hitch for around $100. That might sound crazy, but a new set of bolts from etrailer is money and if one breaks off in your chassis you are in for hours of work and stress. It all worked out in the end but I learned a tough lesson and I hope this helps someone. 552026

The hitch, I'm sure, will be great. Plan to use it on a trip soon. The reason for the 4, not 5, stars is the installation process of this device on my '08 Odyssey. The website, printed directions and installation video on youtube posted by etrailer suggest the hitch can be installed in 15-20 minutes. Mine took over an hour. Why? Because, what none of the material tells you is the bolt locations on the Odyssey likely require lengthy scrubbing to clear years of accumulated debris. Fully 30 minutes was spent scrubbing, spraying and attempting to screw in the bolts. More than a few moments I thought the bolts would never go in. Then, once the threads took hold, I nearly broke my wratchet trying to turn them into place. I got them in about 3/4 of the way, then drove to a nearby auto shop and asked them to use their (much more powerful) impact wrench to finish the job. Since I had done 95% of the work already and I'm a regular customer, they did the final bit for me for free. But I didn't see in any of the instructions that this installation will require some much more powerful tools than a regular handyman would have in his garage. So, I wish the directions were more clear on the website, the video and the printed instructions that this can be a very lengthy process if you have an older vehicle. I was prepared for a 15-20 minute installation. Wish I had been told it could take much, much longer and could well require use of a powered, impact wrench. 536695

Great product and deserving of 5 stars. A couple of notes on installation. It took me about an hour and half for the entire job including tow hitch and wiring harness. YouTube videos and the instructions make it seem very easy, and it is in fact very straightforward ......until you have issues with your car. For the tow hitch. I had trouble removing the driver side plastic guard and one of the threaded holes on the passenger side had some significant rust that required a tap. The wiring harness installation is really quite difficult with big hands. My 11 year old daughter saved the day both fishing the harness through the trim panel to the rear fuse box and then also reaching into the back rear corner to attach the grounding strap to the grounding bolt. All-in-all, absolutely worth the five star rating. Just be realistic with your time for installation and be prepared for issues with your car including having the right tools for contingencies. 567702

Really impressed with this product for the price. It was delivered really fast in perfect condition. The install was really simple, took me about an hour to install with wiring harness and trimming driver side panel. I did have my wife hold up one side of the hitch so I could get a bolt started. I recommend watching the install videos, that is all I needed. Also, I didn’t have to drop the exhaust, just slid the hitch right over the top from the back. This thing is built really solid and looks great on my 2011 Honda Odyssey. Would buy again in a second from etrailer. I also never write reviews so that is saying something about my experience. 647065

I am very happy with this hitch, it was delivered promptly and appeared exactly as depicted. The printed instructions and the YouTube video were very helpful and specific to my model vehicle. The installation was straightforward and not difficult. All the needed items were included. The only problem was packaging, the hitch was hanging out of the box when it arrived which didn't really matter but it could have used a sturdier box. The small items could have fallen out of the tear in the box but fortunately they didn't. So after about two hours I'm pulling my trailer around! 606024

We have been considering a hitch receiver for some time, primarily for our hitch-mount bike rack. We have held off because of the $1,500+ dealer cost, which includes a transmission cooler that we do not need. After seeing the YouTube video showing installation of this receiver, I decided I would do it myself for a fraction of the cost. Ordering was easy, and delivery was quick. Installation took me about an hour from start to finish, a bit longer than the 6-minute YouTube video, and the video was a great help. It looks great, and I can't wait to use it. 581870

According to the owners manual of the Honda Odyssey a transmission cooler is required when towing. The best transmission cooler option for the Honda Odyssey is a Derale transmission cooler part # D13503. I have attached an installation video of the cooler on a 2013 Honda Odyssey.

My trailer hitch and wiring arrived a day earlier than scheduled. It arrived in good shape with no damage whatsoever. It was very easy to install and looks great. Jesse, the one who took my order over the phone was professional and very knowledgeable of the etrailer products. I will definitely highly recommend etrailer to my friends and family. 557177

Overall, I was pleased with my purchase. I wish there was a special addition to state that older vehicles will need a little cleaning of the holt ovations before install. In addition after calling the help line, they recommended the thread tap as a last resort while I ended up using. I wish I would have by-pass some of the work I invested by using this first. The actual rack was off a little bit for the width and bolt holes but I was able to manage by putting in the last bolt you use with the wire to pull it into place for the middle bolt on the drivers side. Needless to say, it is installed and way more cost effective than the Honda hitch from the dealer. 536697

Well made, and delivered in timely fashion. Install pics and video were critical to making this install easy. Highly recommended 536696

Materials came (in excellent shape) in with the exception of my tester. One of my M12-1.25 x 35mm bolts was very difficult to install. Finally got it to thread...I cleaned each of the threads as described. Videos were especially helpful. I did call etrailer about my tester and they are shipping one out to me. I did not have to remove the small screw (that required a stubby screwdriver) and the plastic fasciacovering (on driver side) and once I reinstalled, it did not interfere with the hitch once installed. 536702

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Bolts Won't Thread After Cleaning With Brush for Installing Trailer Hitch on 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • If you weren't able to get the 12M x 1.25 bolts for the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98862 started even after applying WD40 and cleaning out the weld nuts with a wire brush # 814092 on your 2007 Honda Odyssey the next step is to use the 12 mm x 1.25 Tap and Drill Bit # PTW8662 to use drill power to clean out the threads. Typically cleaning the threads with the brush will do the trick but since that isn't working for your application the tap is what you need. Let me know what...

  • Replacement Mounting Bolts for Trailer Hitch on 2007 Honda Odyssey
  • Did you purchase the etrailer.com hitch, part # E98862, you referenced? Whichever hitch you have, use part # RHK and select the hitch manufacturer from the drop down menu and type the model number into the box. That will order the exact hardware kit that was originally included with the hitch you have. I've attached a link to all of our current hitches that fit your 2007 Honda Odyssey for you. • Bike Rack Recommendation For Easy Cargo Area Access on 2015 Honda Odyssey
  • Hollywood Racks doesn't recommend opening the rear hatch or trunk of a vehicle once a rack has been installed for many reasons. First and foremost, it's an unsafe practice. The struts that hold up the liftgate on a minivan are only rated for a certain amount of weight. Having the extra weight on the liftgate could cause it to slam shut without warning, which could be extremely dangerous. Opening and closing the liftgate while it's installed can also damage the vehicle or the rack. If having...

  • Best Way To Carry Cargo on a 2016 Honda Odyssey
  • I would love to help but none of the roof bags for a bare roof will work with a sliding rear door. Therefore, the Rightline Gear Sport 3 Rooftop Cargo Bag part # RL100S30 will not fit your 2016 Honda Odyssey unless you first install a roof rack like the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System which consists of part # RRVA126B-2, part # RRQMVA10, part # RRRTV168, and part # RRRLT600. The next best option which is also more cost effective would be to install a trailer hitch like the etrailer.com...

  • Bike Rack Solutions to Carry a Trike and 3 Bikes with 2011 Honda Odyssey
  • The best option for that would be to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Bike Rack for 1 Trike or Recumbent and 1 Bike # HR1450Z-R-TRKADP2 to carry the trike and one of the bikes and then a roof rack mounted bike rack option for the other two bikes. You'll need a hitch installed for the bike rack like with # e98862 which fits and gives you a 2 inch hitch with plenty of weight capacity. Then for roof bike racks the Malone Pilot TC part # MPG2103 is a great rack at a great price...
