Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Awesome hitch! These people have great quality parts. I run a welding shop and have been in the metal trades for over 25yrs...I know quality fabrication when I see it and these are very well built and easy to install. Thank you! 666245

I didn’t install this product because we decided to trade our Honda Pilot in, however, I will always use etrailer for all towing needs. Everything I have ordered has been a perfect fit for my application! 533719

This is the first hitch I've ever purchased. It took my father in law and me about 2.5 hours to attach the hitch, but we failed the appreciate the necessity of cleaning out and re-tapping the threads on the underside of the Pilot before attaching the hitch. If you take the time to re-thread the holes, the process to attach might take 30 minutes. I recommend using a partner as the hitch is relatively heavy to lift by oneself. 533750

Hitch fit perfectly. Its heavy so its a little bit of a chore to lift it up and get a bolt started so be prepared for that or get a second person. Eitherway it was installed by myself in 45 min. I did have to clean threads on some of the holes in the car frame with one bolt that I cut several groves in the bolt end threads with a dremel, 90 degrees to threads. The cut groves wernt very long so when bolts were tightened down the groves were not part of thread joint. I used oil, too. I also did tighten bolts until all bolts were in place. I had to move one muffler rubber support out of the way and pry down muffler slightly to get it in place. Welds are well done and finish seems nice. No problems with packaging. Light adapter was a perfect fit after figuring out which frame plugs to remove to get wiring down to hitch. 548098

2005 Honda Pilot

Hi, this is my completely honest review about the towing hitch for my 2005 Honda Pilot. Customer Service, Chedi was a lot of help and sold me the hitch needed for my car and gave all info needed about this hitch and installation and he also followed up on the shipping details. Thanks so much for the great customer service.Shipping, The hitch was supposed to arrive Wednesday at the end of the day instead it arrived on Monday night two days earlier. I ordered it Friday afternoon. The Hitch, Like other customers have written here my hitch also perforated the cardboard box, but as i opened the box i noticed that there was no damage to the hitch where it had gone through the box. The hitch however came with a chip about a 1/4" in size, but i doubt this happened during shipping it seems to me like this hitch came chipped from the factory.Installation, It took a friend of mine and myself no more than 25 minutes total. I also didn't have to remove the exhaust, but i did have to remove the spare tire. If you follow the instructions and gather all the tools needed you should not need to spend more than 30 minutes installing this hitch with the help of another person.Over all i am extremely happy with this transaction in all aspects. Thanks so much Chedi and etrailer.com 533499

2006 Honda Pilot

I didn't want to have to put a trailer hitch on my car, but after my wife suffered a stroke and now has a mobility scooter, I simply couldn't keep manhandling that heavy scooter in and out of the car, so we decided to get a scooter platform. I was also hoping this would be an easy-install because I'm not a mechanic by any definition. I was amazed at how fast this trailer hitch arrived at my home and was really pleased that it bolted up into place exactly as the online video demonstrated, despite the fact that I have a full-sized spare tire! I was really concerned that I'd have to go back to the factory-installed "doughnut" tire, but while things are a bit snug, it worked out just as I had hoped it would. This hitch was a PERFECT fit. **Important Note** MAKE SURE that you clean the bolt-holes out with a wire brush like they show you in the video and shoot some WD-40 or some other kind of lubricant into the holes and onto the bolts before installation. You also might want to try a mounting bolt in each hole before mounting. If you don't, you'll wish you did. FYI, once you remove the tow-hook from the drivers side, there won't be any room to replace it, so just put that thought out of your mind. 545109

2006 Honda Pilot

Ordered this hitch for my 2006 Pilot and it arrived earlier than expected. The shipping box arrived damaged with part of the hitch (center support) protruding through the cardboard. There isn't extra padding inside the box to keep the hitch from moving around and damaging the box. Once out of the box, I inspected the hitch and noted several areas with chipped paint. I don't think this damage occurred while in transit. A minor amount of time was spent spray painting the bare metal. I realize the hitch finish will get damaged over time from road debris, but no sense giving corrosion a head start. As others have noted, the muffler side mounting holes were corroded and needed to be cleaned out; I used WD40 and a bolt from the tow hook to clean out/tap the threads. I only had to disconnect the two driver's side rubber exhaust isolators to provide enough space to position the hitch above the exhaust pipe. The directions indicate to install the 6 M12 bolts first, but I found that made it difficult to line up the hitch bolt holes with the bumper beam holes. I had to remove to several of the previously installed M12 bolts to gain enough play to allow me to easily install the M10 bolts into the bumper beam. The drivers side M12 bolts installed easily as the tow hook bolts kept the threads clean. The muffler side M12 bolts took a lot of work to install; I ended up using a socket set with a 1/2 inch drive as the larger ratchet gave me more leverage to turn the tightly fitting M12 bolts. The installed spare tire (donut) still has plenty of room between it and the hitch. Satisfied with my purchase. 531180

Re: my 2004 Honda Pilot installation - No need for pictures - the video and video transcript provided at etrailer are quite adequate. Installation was easy - the hardest part was getting the spare tire back up under the vehicle. I didn't have a wire brush nor did I have a tap to clean out the mounting holes, but a little liquid wrench sprayed on the bolts cleaned out the holes nicely. If I encountered resistance, I just backed the bolt out and sprayed it again before having another go. The exhaust rubber mount removal works better if you leave them attached to the muffler side and just pop them off the vehicle pins. I put a jack stand under the exhaust pipe for support. I was even able to get the hitch up and bolted in without assistance by hanging one end of the hitch on the muffler pipes just long enough to get a bolt in the opposite side. Piece of cake. 530946

2005 Honda Pilot

Lives up to expectations! I recently purchased a used 2005 Honda Pilot EX. After talking with the dealer about adding a hitch, I decided this was an easy DIY project. I surfed the web and found this hitch and saved roughly $200 (including labor) by purchasing it from eTrailer and doing the install myself. This website provided step by step video instructions and made the job go much easier. The install took roughly an hour. My only issue involved the wrong bolts for the middle support. The parts list says these should be M8 1.25 x 35 - which were shipped with the hitch. However the installation steps mentions M10 bolts. The M8's were too small and after a quick trip to the local nut and bolt shop, I found the proper M10 1.25 x 35 Hex Bolts and completed the job. The hitch looks great, fits like a glove and was simple to install with basic tools and knowledge. I will order from eTrailer again. 530238

Installation was a hassle My wife really liked the hidden design of the hitch. But, the hitch (especially the middle bracket) does prevent the temporary spare tire from fitting flush up against the underside of the vehicle. But, there is still room for the tire. I presume there is room for a full size spare as well, but didn't test it. Since the Honda Factory trailer hitch also uses a center bumper bracket, I suspect this hitch doesn't take up any more room than the factory hitch. The installation probably would have taken about 1 hour. Having some jack stands and someone to help hold the hitch against the frame while the bolts are started is a must. I spent and extra 30 minutes - a total of an hour and a half (befored giving up for the night) trying to get the final bolt installed. The threaded holes in the frame on the passenger side were clogged with years gunk...making it hard to get the bolts started. AND - apparently one of the holes has misformed threads as the bolt hung up before it was fully inserted. I backed it out and discovered that about 2 rows of threads were stripped in the middle of the bolt. The other five frame bolts (and the two bumper bolts) went it in and torqued properly. I haven't yet been able to find a proper sized tap (12mm metric with 1.25mm threads) to rethread the frame. (It is probably going to cost $30 to $80 to buy a tap & die set, if I can't find one to borrow.) But, that isn't a problem with the hitch or the hitch design. I recommend that after you remove the tow hook from the driver's side, you use one of those bolts to clear the threads of the frame holes on the passenger side - and to test if there is a problem with any of the hole threads w/o damaging the bolts that came with the frame. 530216

Fits on my 2004 Honda Pilot like it was factory! Installation was easy after using a wire brush attached to my cordless drill to clean out the threads before trying the bolts. Even with a recently broken wrist, I was able to install it using hand tools with the help of my lovely wife in under an hour from start to clean up! The only thing I will note is the center bracket bolts were more difficult to tighten compared to the side brackets but they eventually tightened down to torque. I will also note that I didn't have to drop my exhaust. If you are careful (and use a cloth to cover the end of your muffler) you can maneuver the hitch into place without moving the exhaust. Keep in mind, however, that you will need someone to tighten the bolts on one side or at least hold one side while you tighten the other. 533786

This hitch is nice and sturdy, it attaches with 8 bolts and is going to be able to haul anything imaginable. There is only one problem that I have noticed with this hitch, when hauling a trailer the ball mount does not fix correctly, its just a little to loose. There is a little play in the connection. This isn't a problem with hauling, its just loud and sounds like the trailer is going to fall off. I have bought 2 ball mounts to make sure it wasn't the mount but it didn't fix the problem. I'm sure with a substantial pay load it wouldn't be a problem but I use it to just haul trash to the dump.On a side note, make sure you clean the treads of the exposed holes on the under carriage of the vehicle. Why Honda did not place a bolt or plastic tread cover over these holes boggles me. That was the hardest part of the installation. But that has no effect on this hitch, you would run into that problem with any hitch you try installing. 530633

2002 Acura MDX

Very good product. I installed on my 02 MDX with no assistance. Though I wouldn't have minded some help or at least some company.Honestly, the trickiest part was clearing the passenger's side threads out. I had already lubed and brushed the threads out but I couldn't get the bolts to turn into the threads very far at all. Eventually, I'd figured out a trick that helped me out: If you have a dremmel with a grinding disk or some other small disk grinder, carefully grind a couple narrow vertical grooves in one of the bolts that you have taken out when removing the tow hook from the driver's side. The grooves should run perpendicular to the threads on the bolt. Put a few drops of cutting oil on the modified bolt, turn it with a ratchet or an impact driver. Drive it in until it starts to bind up and back it all the way out. Clean the grooves and re-oil the threads. Repeat until the bolt threads all the way in. This is called chasing the threads. Ideally, I would have had a thread chaser kit in my garage but I just never had a need until now. However, the bolts from honda have a generous lead on them making it nearly impossible to crossthread so I think my homemade contraption worked even better than something I could buy at the store.I did experience a slight fitment issue with the exhaust heat shield. I had to bend it in towards the muffler by about a quarter to a half an inch to get the holes on the receiver to line up properly with the mounting points on the MDX. Not a big deal. Otherwise, it fit perfectly without modification. 531366

Thank you for the informative video instructions as well as helpful / honest reviews to research prior to making the purchase. I do not have anything to add that has not been covered in the reviews. Here is a recap of my experience that has been consistent with others.1. Box was received with the driver side of the hitch pushed out. Only minor scratches which you can not see when installed and it did not impact the installation. Wrapping each end would probably be a good idea as stated in other reviews.2. Removing 14 years of rust was the hardest part of the install (from the passenger side holes). Total time was approximately 1 hour as others have experienced. I used the bolts from the factory tie hook to work out the rust using 1/2" round wire brush attached to a cordless drill along with a full can of WD-40.3. Installation of the hitch took about 30 minutes with assistance of a foot stool. 4. Plug-n-play electrical connector took about 10 minutes after watching the video.5. Perfect fitment, fast delivery, easy website ordering experience and follow-up status notifications, and I can not be more pleased with the cost being under $200 for a DIY project. I required this setup to tow a ~1,000 lb motorcycle trailer with a ~1,000 lb motorcycle next week and my Honda has a 3,500 lb towing capacity.Thank you etrailer.com! 533338

Easy install. No need to be a pro. I called a local shop to install a hitch. Just labor alone was over $200. Why pay that much when all you need to know how to do is turn a wrench. If you can turn a wrench you can put a bolt in the screw hole. That's as simple as it was to install this hitch. No need to lower your exhaust. Only thing I didn't have was a torque wrench. So I went down to my local tire center and torqued down the nuts. One suggestion is to make sure the holes are clean and you don't even need to remove the spare tire completely. Just loosen it enough to move it out of the way. Love how low profile it looks on my pilot. No bulkiness here. But don't underestimate the looks. This thing is built to last. I dont tow any huge boats or trailers but I do have the capability now. Awesome price and easy to install yourself. Worth it! 532354

I'm leaving a review for a hitch and electrical hook up I purchased. In a nutshell, everything was as explained. For the hitch install, I did need a second hand, but was able to leave the exhaust in place. The electric was just as shown in the video. Thanks etrailer! 666125

Excellent product! I had purchased a class I hitch from you seven years ago, used it a couple times, but not in the past 5 years. When I recently bought a utility trailer I found that the bumper on my 2002 MDX had rusted to the point where I was not comfortable hauling anything with the class I. That's when I order the class III. installed the new hitch myself - it took about 4 hours, because I had to cut the lower bolts on the old hitch to get it off, and then had to tap the three frame bolt holes on the passengers side - they were full of 17 years worth of rust/dirt/debris. Now that it's all buttoned up, I couldn't be happier. This sucker is one sturdy hitch! 641014

2005 Acura MDX

Well fabricated piece, prompt delivery and the installation video online is helpful but ... I'm not thrilled with the fit on my 2005 MDX. I had to modify both muffler heat shields in order to get the hitch mounted without interference. Now that it's installed, it's pushing the "ears" of the lower bumper trim panel (between the hitch and the exhaust tips) out of position. Looks like I'll need to drop the exhaust again and make additional modifications to get the bumper trim back where it should be. Seems to work fine for towing but moderately disappointing overall when I was expecting a 60 minute project with an exact fit. If it wasn't such a big undertaking, I'd be thinking about returning this product and trying to find a hitch that was better designed to fit the car. 636163

Arrive within a few days and installed easily - thank you for having a video of the installation online, that certainly helped. The wiring kit made installing the light hookup a breeze. Once that was accomplished the new bolts (supplied with the hitch) screwed in easily. 533741

Installed easy but I was glad I had an impact wrench. Existing bolts were rusted in so I don't thing a standard socket set will get them out. You also should have a long torque wrench... 84 ft pounds is very tight even with a long wrench. 533740

Ahead of time delivery, perfect fit, GREAT powder coating and the quality of bolts supplied look to be about a grade 9. Using the hitch on a 2007 Honda Pilot and will be towing a 4X8 utility trailer. Beats the heck out of $800 quoted locally and dang nice looking finished product. The video for installing the wiring package made the job into a 10 minute project. Took most of the time to take out the ice chest and emergency tools I keep in the back. Hardest part was getting the hitch into place with not much help. Just sold my pickup and this makes up for it. I can still haul light loads and don't have to borrow mu sons truck. ';-) 533686

etrailer was great, very timely service, product fit well. My only problem was the wire brush was no match your the 15 years of rust . Thankfully my neighbor a retired master mechanic showed me a trick , by taking one of the old bolts and grinding the threads off on two sides it worked like a tap and allowed space for the rust to escape out of. Hope they make a video to show others this trick. I had spent a lot of time trying to find a tap that fit.Take care. 533683

I purchased a door spring assembly that was actually for my shed. I designed my shed to have a drawbridge style door that doubled as a ramp for my lawnmower to get up inside. It is very similar to a cargo trailer ramp/door. And, the hardware I bought to provide the counterbalance, and take up the cables as the door raised and lowered has worked flawlessly since installed. I would recommend buying from etrailer for any trailer part or accessory needs. 533599
