I have installed several hitches over the years and this was by far the worst. Some of the supplied washer were undersized which led to a sheered bolt. It is impossible to torque some bolts to spec without an extended wrench olding the bolt in the frame. E-Trailers customer service was useless and the manufacturer has not returned my call. Long story short I got it installed, but would not recommend this hitch.
Great hitch! Harder to install if you're doing it by yourself but it only took 3ish hours. We have the SE trim and bumper on ours was different than the one showed in the install video provided. We managed to figure it out and it works great!
Love this hitch. My vehicle will never tow anywhere close to its’ rating as the the towing capacity is much lower. But, the larger receiver opening gives me many more options for external racks.
Hitch is quality, install went pretty smoothly. Installed on a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan r line. The side brackets needed a little tapping as there was 1/4” gap cause they were bent, after that issue was take care of and went all back together easily until it was time to put the rear splash guard/skid plate/ bumper support back in which 100% needed to be trimmed as it would never go back in without trimming and if you leave out your rear bumper will just be flapping around in the middle.
I do auto body for a living so it wasn’t a big job but would have been nice to not have to bang hitch with hammer to fit and when stated no trimming of anything needed which is false.

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed.

I replaced the factory 1.25" hitch on my Tiguan with this and it fit perfectly through the pre-cut bumper hole. The first hitch I received was slightly askew, at roughly 7º off from level. etrailer sent me a new one literally the next day and I got it a couple of days later. The new one was perfect. It attaches with 10 bolts making it extremely sturdy compared to other models out there, and we went this one for the 750lb tongue weight.
The installation was astonishingly hard. All of the instructions were great, but if you don't know how to work on cars, be prepared spend a LONG time on this. It took me about 6 hours from start to finish, 7 if you count my lunch break. It was well worth it since it fit perfectly where the factory hitch fit, but man, I was expecting a couple hours tops. I also had to wire this myself, and the process for that was just as hilarious. We got it done though, and I would do it again if needed. Well worth it.
The hitch more than my wife's car needs. But, its so much better than the number structure from the factory. I used the video it help mostly, there are a few steps that could use more detail. It took 5 hours to install this. The finished product is the same in the video, just took a little longer to get there without the details needed. Still a great product!
If you are looking for the best quality Tiguan hitch, this is it. Super heavy duty, and highest ground clearance. Some of the other offerings may be easier to install as they don't require removing the bumper cover, but they compromise capacity, and clearance. This hitch is completely hidden, with the exception of the receiver. No trimming of the bumper cover is required either! Not my first ECO-hitch, as I had one on a Golf Sportwagen also which was also excellent. Installation time took about 2 hours. etrailer customer service came through when there was a little hiccup, I appreciate that.
Poorly packaged, part is great but it came in a completely ripped apart box.
Great Fit, very stealth. I did the install on my wife's brand new 2024 Tiguan SE R-Line and everything went very smooth, took about 1.5 hours and there were zero hiccups, fitment was perfect. We riveted on the sensor that was affixed to the old crash bar for a nice factory finish. Very impressed with how the 2" receiver comes out through the factory underside whole in the valence. Highly recommend!
Difficult to install and doesn’t have a spot ready to install the VW sensor. Very heavy duty. Looks excellent!
It's perfect. The VW dealer told me it didn't fit but, after convincing myself that I was capable of removing and reinstalling my 2021 Tiguan's bumper, I didn't have any issues at all.
My package arrived without installation hardware. It arrived without the metal plates required to install it. It did not come with instructions. Etrailer created a page for me and there were no installation instructions there either. I'm really frustrated.

This was my 3rd or 4th hitch (and wiring) purchased from etrailer - great cost to value. have been satisfied with each purchase. new england road salt exacerbates oxidation - and while there is some corrosion/rust, it has not been an issue.
Installed on 2021 VW Tiguan SE. Install went well, I would advise using some lock tight liquid as some of the lock washers can be challenging to get on. Also, their is a cellular antenna on the rear right side, inside the bumper, I just zip tied it in the general area where it was before after installing the hitch. Also have it a long wrench set available will help with the install as some of the bolt heads reside inside a steel tube frame.
Quality steel, well-coated, heavy duty, excellent fit, and very safe. Replaces the crash structure with something that'll REALLY hold up. 2019 Tiguan has zero clearance or fit issues with the bumper skin, exhaust, etc. The receiver sits level and, due to pushing vs hanging design, does not sag over time. The look is sleek and what stock should look like -- not completely hidden but neatly integrated and flowing with body lines. Instructions were excellent, but you'd better have some mechanic blood and muscles (as expected). Zero regrets with this one. I was worried since it was for a wussy vehicle, but a proper truck would be proud with this thing. My only improvement suggestion would be to include a zinc anticorrosion spray ("cold galvanizing") for wet installing the bolts. Top marks after a year of use.
Was sent a defective hitch. Sent pictures and spoke with customer service only to be told they wont overnight a replacement, but I have to wait another 4 days. Delays before even shipping the hitch I get an email with an apology because "they received an influx of orders and there processing time is longer than expected".
2.5 hours, start to finish, solo install. Would go faster with an extra set of hands. Very straight forward, all parts accounted for, and nice clean look once installed!

Great! The installation went well - good clear instaructions - with no problems during the year of service.
Packaging was poor at best. Missing major parts (frame support plate), hardware loose inside box. Not very pleased with this purchase.

This hitch has been amazing! We no longer own this Tiguan but on our new one we put the same hitch on it as well!
Quick delivery. Status info available. Already installed and fit well, no issues. Good design, didn’t have to cut the trim when installed. Last mentioned was important to me.
