I’ve had this hitch receiver for a year and it’s still going strong. I use it for my platform bike rack and never had an issue. No regrets.
Totally worth it to go with a 2" receiver rather than a 1.25" - many more cargo carrier options. Two photos in this review: 1) when removing the center bumper clip, one way is to wiggle it side to side until the spot welds fatigue and rip out, then install 2 rivets into the holes, seal with JB weld/silicone (optional). This is much cleaner than cutting or folding the clip. 2) just to show it with a pre-facelift/non-GLI model, since all other photos at the moment are facelift/GLI models.
Install followed the video perfectly! If there was a question i had the answer! Added some Thread-lock red and 4xM8 flanged hex nuts to support the welded frame nuts for added security.
I took my time with every step of the process. I made sure to clean everything even though it would end up getting dirty again by time the bumper ever gets removed again.
The car does have a lower clearance now and I do here it touch and scrape from time to time when road access is poorly designed. My car is a 2018 Jetta and the mileage is getting up there so I probably need to replace the rear suspension parts and I am sure that would help. Not sure the car was designed for the hitch AND all the weight I load the back seat and trunk with.
I am super pleased with this product, it's performance, and the support on this website with videos and instructions to make me feel like I am making a good choice. I am so glad I went with a trailer mount bike hauling setup and not on the roof because I do my kayak on the roof and that can turn into a whole process and the gas mileage with things on the roof is terrible.
It installs, looks, and functions as advertised and it arrived days earlier than was promised.

The hitch still works as it should. We use it for a bike rack only. After less than a year it began to show signs of rust and we live in SoCal where it hardly ever rains. It has now been two years and there is still rust around the opening. but the rust does not seem to have gotten worse during the second year.

What a great hitch. I picked this one because it mounts to the strongest part of the car and I didn't want to drill any holes in my spare tire well. I have a 2011 Jetta TDI and it said it didn't fit the TDI, but it fits perfect. I even left the bumper padding in. It's a tight fit to snap the bumper back on, but now there is no flex to the bumper. If someone rear ends me they will have no give before they hit something solid. You have to trim the bumper slightly where the reciever is, but it's easy and you can't see it from above. You can see in the pictures. I would reccomend this hitch to everyone. I pulled a 2000 lb camper cross country with no problems.
Install was very doable and all the parts need were there. Have used it for the year and we've had no issues. Haven't really thought about it at all since the install which is probably the best recommendation that I can think of for a hitch.
It works well. Clearance is less once installed so don’t be surprised when you hear a loud scraping noise when the car is going down a steep road
The only complaint that O have is in the installation video. It says that the compression compound has to be eliminated because it will not fit. On the VW Jetta 2017 does fit and I believe it’s a safety issue to eliminate it. Other than that the video and hardware was great.
I have ordered a hitch for my Jetta . I'm very happy with my choice . Order came on time . Installation wasn't to difficult .
The receiver is not welded on straight it’s hard to believe that you could not see this before it was shipped out

Great purchase. I am 100% satisfied.
First if all, the hitch arrived on the exact date they told me. etrailer kept me up to date at every step. There were instructions and everything needed for the installation. It took more time to get the car up on ramps, get the tools, and clean up than it took to install the hitch.
I have quite a few 2” accessories and this hitch allows me to use them without an adapter. The hitch itself is overkill for this application. The car cannot tow 2000 lbs. i would also not put 300 lbs of tongue weight on that car.
The hitch selection was extremely easy with the video that outlines the different choices for this application.

To conclude, since no review should miss the “cons”, disappointments, and areas for improvements, I will add my negative comments:
First, the difficulty rating is 10/10. I wholeheartedly disagree. The only way this would be any easier would be to have someone else do it!
Second, the video suggests you should discard the foam absorber. I decided to keep it, give it a try, and it worked. It is a tight fit, but it works. I would suggest letting the customers know that it may fit (at least on the S model) but if you can’t get the bumper cover back in, feel free to
discard it.
Other than that, I am 100% pleased.
I wanted a clean look with adding a hitch receiver on my sedan. The order was placed with a phone call. The representative was knowledgeable and polite. A few days later the item was delivered
My mechanic installed the unit today.
It looks great! Now I can use my hitch mount bike rack and cargo tray.
Fit is perfect, installation was straightforward with videos found online. Have used to tow quite a bit and is very sturdy yet still pretty out if sight when not in use. With the hitch height I used a drop hitch and flipped it upside down.
Trailer hitch fit my Volkswagen Jetta 2014 perfectly. Didn't know what to expect ordering a part like this online. Very pleased with the results. Using etrailer and YouTube videos I was able to complete the installation myself in about 2 hours. If you are mechanically inclined, it is not difficult.
Cleanest looking hitch I have found. Pretty easy installation. I put it to work constantly pulling small trailers. Works like it should.
Even tough it's advertised for my vehicle as "Hide a Hitch" receiver drags on pavement when encountering small dips in terrain. I will also add it's only 8 3/4's of an inch above ground.
Works as advertised. Holds my bike rack well. I've not towed anything with it .
