Today on this 2014 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen were going to install part number C11072 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on our car. Next well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 10 inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be about five and a half inches. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed.
To get started what we need to do is go ahead and lower the passenger side underbody panel. There will be three torques head screws and two hex nuts. Now we need to go to the drivers side of the car and lower the exhaust. There will be two hex phalange bolts from the exhaust hanger bracket. Well go ahead and remove those and set those aside.
We will not be reusing those. One thing well want to do is to make sure the hanger brackets still left on the exhaust itself. At this point we can go ahead and show you where the hitch mounts up to the car. Looking on the passengers side we will use these two holes on the bottom of the frame and one hole on the side of the frame. On the drivers side the hitch will use the two threaded holes where the exhaust hanger bracket is.
On the trunk pan well have to remove this plug and our hitch will install in this hole as well. At this point we can go ahead and start installing the hardware into passengers side frame rail. Well take our bolt leader, which comes with the kit, run it through one of the holes were going to use and out the access hole thats forward on the frame. Well thread in our block, push into the frame and then thread on our bolt. Now to install the bolt it may be a good idea to go ahead and put it in head first to work it inside the frame.
Then well pull the whole assembly through the frame and out the hole. Now were going to install the two bolts on the bottom of the frame for now. At this point we can go ahead and put the hitch into position. Well take the drivers side mount plate and put it between the exhaust hanger bracket and drivers side frame rail. Then well go to our passengers side, line up the bolts with the holes in the hitch, and then install our phalange nuts. Well leave everything as loose as possible so we can move it around. Now well go back over to the drivers side. Well go ahead and install our new hardware that will go through the hanger bracket for the exhaust and then through the hitch and then into the frame. Were also using a jack to help hold up our hitch while we do this. Its going to be close quarters to get the hardware into place. Going back over to the passengers side well go ahead and install our final piece of hardware. Well run a bolt leader through the side of the frame and out the access hole, and once again well install our block and our bolt and pull it on through, and then we can go ahead and install the phalange nut. At this point we need to get inside the vehicle and get down to the trunk pan. We need to remove the flooring and get down to the spare tire and remove it as well to get access to the plug in the bottom of the spare tire well. Well go ahead and use some sealant to seal up the hole before we install our hardware. Well be using part number LT37467 from Lock Tite. Once the hardware is in place on the inside of the car well go back underneath and install the phalange nut on the bottom. In this case the hitch was a tight fit, and we actually use the floor jack one more time to go ahead and push up on the hitch a little bit to help us get the threads through the hitch and then we can install the phalange nut.Once our phalange nut is loosely installed we can go ahead and tighten down the rest of our bolts, and then well torque them down as specified in the instructions. Next well go ahead and work with the underbody panel that we removed earlier. Were going to hold it up in its original location as close as possible and up against the hitch. Well go ahead and mark where the hitch will interact with the panel, take some measurements and then well go ahead and remove the material needed so we can reinstall it. In this case our hitch lined up with our existing molding line on the inside, so we measured all the way out to the edge and then to our mark that we made behind the hitch. Then we made about a three-eighths of an inch gap using a rotary tool. Then we go ahead and reinstall our panel, reusing all our hardware from before. With that, that will finish it for our install of part number C11072 from Curt on our 2014 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen. .

Awesome. Ordered this hitch for my new 2014 Jetta Sportwagen on a Sunday. The box was sitting on my front door step Thursday. Watched the installation video as a refresher, read the instructions. Backed the rear wheels on to a couple of landscaping pavers just to give me a couple inches extra working space, and got down to it. HOW EASY WAS THAT? Just follow the instructions. Remove the passenger side panel, you will need a couple of different torx heads for this, just get a screwdriver set with multiple heads that include torx--handy to have anyway. Remove the exhaust hanger bolts, a longer socket extension will be handy for this. Remove the grommet under the spare tire. Install the passenger side bolts and backers with the included wire fish...WAY EASIER THAN I THOUGHT--literally takes 30 seconds to get them in place. Position the hitch and loosely install the provided new bolts to the exhaust hanger. Then do the passenger side, and the one through the trunk. Go around and tighten them all up, making sure everything is flush before a final tightening. SO EASY. Lastly, DO reinstall the passenger side panel. Just cut a groove in it as follows. Looking at the panel from the TOP (the part that you won't see when it's reinstalled, cut the grove along the inside edge of the groove in the panel, you don't even need to measure where. Just cut it long enough to fit when you slide it on. Eyeball the length of the groove, then make it longer if you have to. (I stole this tip from another review here...great tip!) p.s. I used a jig saw to cut it. You could use a hack saw if you want to spend a little more time doing it, or a dremel type tool. The hitch fits great, nice and flush to the undercarriage, and looks great on the car (as far as needing to have a hitch). While I am mechanically included, this is NOT rocket science, believe me. If you have some sockets and wrenches, the torx screwdriver, and and hour or so...you can install this quite easily. Nice product, fast service. Thanks etrailer! pps don't forget to have a little tube of silicone as well to put under the washer under the spare tire. 149637

I received my hitch in 3 business days, which was great considering a hurricane hit during transit (Sandy). As a professional mechanic, I found the instructions very well written and intuitive. If I had any questions or doubts, there were videos on the site to walk me through the whole process beginning to end! The fit and finish of the Curt hitch is great! all bolts lined up perfectly and tr hardware supplied is stainless, which means no rusting, crusty, frozen bolts to contend with I I ever want to remove the hitch (dealership visits!! warranty work!!). Thanks for a great product and fantastic support! Ben Florida 58562
Received the hitch in a damaged box (understandable cos it's heavy!) but etrailer guys have thoughfully taped the installation hardware securely to the hitch itself, so no problems there! Installation was do-able without a hoist/jack but would have been easier if you have an extra pair of helping hands.Just watch the installation video a couple of times, anyone can do it. Fit and finsh is of the hitch is perfect! I live in Singapore so shipping costs more than the hitch itself but it's worth it. 171274

Probably the easiest install I have ever done. First you have to watch the video. See those tools they use? If you dont have them go to Seers and get them, and while you are there get a tube of silicon. Next, put your car on the ramp. AH like me you dont have one right? Park your car with the front wheels on the road back wheels on the curb. Now just follow the video. If you are not blind and can tell the difference between a nut and bolt you can do this. The only thing I would be careful about is cutting plastic under car covers. . You dont have to cut out the corner, a big slot will work. YOU CAN DO THIS. 86270
Lost my confidence in Curt. About a year ago I added one to my Honda Fit, it went off nearly flawlessly and in about the time stated on this site. This Jetta project however has turned me off of Curt hitches. It was a disaster from the start. The tolerances must have been off on the hitch or the car, there was so much prying to get this thing installed, it was a nightmare. The heat shield alone gave us a whole set of issues that were never pointed out. In all 3 bolts holes had to be re-tapped and the trunk attachment had a 1/4" gap open to the road. I really had no choice at this point but to fill it with caulk and I'll layer over it with a rubber dampener adhesive pad that I have. On the muffler side, the holes did not align at all and I really don't have a lot of confidence in that installation point. The right side (frame side, is solid - no problems, in fact the fish wires are the greatest part of this). The "tools required" list is not accurate, there are no torque specifications included, so good luck with that. All in all this was about 2 1/2 hours to install with 2 people (one is a mechanical engineer) - we stripped 3 bolt holes that we re-tapped, ground the hitch with a Dremel tool to get one of the bolts to fit and essentially filled a hole in the trunk with caulk because the steel plate did not cover the hole properly and just barely allowed the bold to pass through. 258416

This hitch was shipped promptly from Etrailer. It was easy enough to install without even lifting the car. The hitch itself could fit much better, it is way too low. The finish on the hitch is better (at least when new) than any other hitch I have ever seen. I have scraped the hitch itself when turning into my driveway, not to mention my awesome new bike rack. I wish someone made a hitch that fit a 2013 VW GLI better. I think the hitch could be about 2" higher and the scraping would probably be eliminated. If they made one, I would buy it today. 58139

I had been looking for a hitch for my VW Jetta wagon, and a friend recommended the CURT Hitch, and also recommended etrailer for their prices and services. Etrailer had a great price on the hitch, plus free shipping if I ordered the wiring harness too. What a deal. I live in South Florida, and received the hitch three days after I ordered it. The communications and service from etrailer was outstanding. The instructions included with the CURT hitch were very detailed, and easy to follow. Installation was straight forward, but took longer than the instructions said. The wiring instructions were also easy to understand and follow. I must say however, that Volkswagon doesn't give much space to work in when it comes to wiring. There was virtually no slack in the wiring harness to the taillights, and I had to be very careful not to break any wires. Finding an exit for the trailer harness also proved to be a challenge, as the whole inner-body is sealed. All in all, the installation was not difficult, just time consuming. Thanks etrailer for a great product, and your outstanding service. Keep up the good work. John 24533

Last week I installed this hitch on a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI and it fits like a charm. It took me about two hours to install, but only because I have never put my car up on a lift and done something like this before. The included hardware is sturdy; I'm confident it will survive many years of abuse to come. I haven't towed anything with it yet, but it seems like it will do the trick when it comes time to tow my motorcycle in about a month. Can't wait to see how it performs! The installation video on eTrailer was spot on and the hitch worked just fine for my GLI (vs. normal Jetta), which I was unsure of at first; thanks for the video, eTrailer!! I neglected to pay attention to the small clips adjacent to the muffler mount so bending those out of the way took more time than it should have, but I got the job done. 229688
Very pleased with the service and product. It was shipped quickly and arrived undamaged in a couple days. Even though I'm a mechanical person, the install took about 1.5 hours because I was very careful about reading and following the instructions. The fishing of the bolts was really quite easy if you look carefully at the illustration on the instructions and read it through. As a side note, you do have to trim a slot in the plastic underbody piece but it's very soft material and took only a minute with a hack saw. I haven't had the product a long time so I can't speak to its long time durability but it seems sturdy and well made. It does hang down a bit but as long as you are careful like me, you shouldn't really scrape it. 111597
The hitch arrived in good condition and in a very short period of time putting it in on the car was a struggle. I consider myself to be reasonably mechanical . I had difficulty with getting the bolt holes to line up around the exhaust hanger. I'm certain I used words that I haven't used in a long time it was a little frustrating. I put several hitches on different vehicles and this one by far was the most challenging. It seemed as though the hole in the trunk didn't line up well with the part of the hitch that I needed to bolt to. If you plan to do this it certainly would be a big help if you had another set of hands doing it by yourself is a challenge. I finally got it on and in place but I worked at it it looks good and I certainly hope it pulls a small trailer that I have but I don't want to put another one on this car. 268970

I installed the Kurt trailer hitch on our 2012 Jetta TDI Sportwagon today. Its generally went well and I especially liked the wire snakes that thread onto the bolts. Two things which could be improved: 1. The VW exhaust hanger bolts have an easy start design with a pointed tip and about 3 mm with no thread so it is much easier to get them started compared to the longer hanger bolts supplied with the hardware kit. 2. The alignment of the 12X13 carriage bolt through the grommet hole in the spare tire well was not centered. It ended up far to the passenger side toward the front of the car, almost had to modify the sheet metal, even when I moved the hitch as far to the rear as possible. I dont know whether it is a variation of placement of the grommet hole by VW or something Kurt should change. 118277

I have a 2012 VW sportswagon TDI. I found the hitch I needed on this site and it was the exact hitch I needed at a considerable savings from other sites. The hitch was shipped and within in one day I recieved three emails to let me know it had been shipped and that it would arrive even earlier at no cost to me. I brought it to a trailer hitch installer and he mounted it in fifty minutes and it is perfect for this vehicle. There was a little rust on the weld were the trailer ball arm meets the hitch but nothing a little rustolium wont fix. Great company, value, customer service and products. 55836

So far, so good. E-trailer expedited my shipment at no extra charge. My mechanic installed the hitch for $55. Haven't used it yet, but everything went together as expected and it looks good. 114777

Hitch and bike rack arrived in good condition by expedited shipping. Although installation is a bit difficult the end result is satisfactory. The hitch sometimes scrapes when entering or leaving a roadway with gutter. Unit is well designed for strength and serviceability. Thank you etrailer. 27404

Box came with a hole in the side but like other comments stated hardware is attached to the hitch. Product was not damaged at all due to the amount of protective wrap they have on the item. Installation was a super easy because of the videos they have on the website. I am not by no means a car guy and I installed item very easyily. If you have access to a lift it would make install much easy but you can manage by with just using jack and jackstands. I use it to pull my zero turn with no issues. Gave 4 stars because I have only had item for a week and can not comment on durability. Deffinatly will buy from etrailer again. Super fast shipping.. and much cheaper than local auto parts store. 280292
I bought the hitch for my 2009 Jetta Sedan. I wanted a hitch that would be easy to install without having to do any drilling. It was a breeze to install; everything lined up with the supplied hardware. The wiring harness had plenty of lead wire for the power connection to the battery but the grounding wire was not long enough to reach an existing grounding lug. I had to splice in additional wire. Overall, I am pleased with the product in that it match my car with no modification needed. 64767

I installed the hitch on my 209 Jetta wagon over the weekend. I found the video useful in helping with the various steps of the installation. I admit to puzzling over the tool used by your installer to remove the rubberized muffler hanger. I realized that was a pro level tool and was not available to most home installers. It was a little misleading though! I thought the installation was awkward, but not difficult - who has a lift in their garage? The package came damage, with a large metal tab protruding throught the cardboard. Fortunately the hitch was not damage. The customer support and delivery was quick and overall a very positive experience. 87031
Really easy to install! I am definately a novice. Took me an hour. Be careful torking the bolts on the exhaust hanger. Instructions say to tork to 17lbs but one stripped before I got to 17lbs. Otherwise very happy. Watch the installation video on you tube. 86392

My husband and I are very skeptical about many products that you order online. The attention to detail by Etrailer and the design of the hitch for our Jetta TDI Wagon was outstanding. We were notified at every step of the way about our order and it actually arrived much sooner than we expected. Installation was made much easier by having the videos for each car model available. We installed it together in 1.5 hours. The hardest part was understanding the wire bolt methodology. Once we got that it was a breeze. The flange underneath the muffler was a bear. But e hitch is now on our car and we are happy 82398

Installation time was just over an hour including the few minutes I laid on the creeper after hitting my head on it. Directions were clear. It helped to watch a few videos online of how to fish the bolts through the frame before doing it. The only thing I would "improve" is if they offered it with the ball pre-mounted (obviously in different sizes) since I didn't have a socket or C-wrench big enough. I ended up putting the ball mount in the receiver and used a pipe wrench to torque it down as much as I could. It seems nice and tight, but I might have U-Haul or somewhere else double check the torque for safety. 21710

Received my Curt 11072 hutch yesterday, installed it today on my 2011 VW Jetta Sportwagen. Etrailer exceeded my expectations across the board! My questions concerning the correct trailer light wiring kit for my car were answered promptly, fast delivery and great follow-up all at an excellent price. Very straight forward installation, excellent instructions. Start to finish it took me about an hour. As a welder, I am critical of craftsmanship, and the unit is nicely made. Everything lined up and fit tight. I will be installing the trailer light wiring tomorrow. Should be an interesting challenge. 19282

Hitch was easier to mount then a DrawTite model I installed a couple years ago on Prius. Fishing bolts wasn't hard at all. Unlike the DrawTite model I installed before this hitch did not need to be pried to fit all the bolts in place. When this hitch arrive I did find one end had punctured the box and a small amount of pain was chipped off a corner. In the future etrailer should wrap the ends a bit to prevent this from happening. A little rustoleum before mounting should protect the hitch. I just used to to carry two bikes roughly 300 miles without any trouble at all. 132492

Product was shipped fast. Box was a bit worse for ware, but product in good condition. Waited a few weeks to install the hitch on our Jetta Sport Wagon. Installation was pretty straight forward and instructions great. Took a bit longer than suggested, but daughter and I had a good time installing it. Hitch fit great and included hardware made the installation very easy. 273688

I was very happy with how this hitch arrived and how all the hardware was together. Instructions for the most part were good. I had to do some trimming of the heat shield around the spare tire well and around the bolt holes for the exhaust as well as some brutt force to get the hitch close enough to the holes to get the bolts started. The 2013 body/frame must be a little different as the hole for the side bolt was not there, so my passenger side only has 2 of the 3 nuts and bolts installed. This hitch is only going to carry bikes on it, so 2 will probably be ok. 239763
I purchased this Curt Trailer hitch for my 2010 VW Jetta TDI. I had the bolt on product installed in about an hour. It feels sturdy, looks ok but it definitely makes the clearance of the car a little bit less. I haven't had any rubbing yet but I expect to find a few drive ways that will rub at some point. For the price this is a good product but I don't know if I would use this hitch for trailer pulling. My main reason for purchasing this product was for use with a hitch mounted bike rack. For my purpose, I am happy with the product. 10619

Product arrived on time and undamaged although box was pretty beat up. Installation was just as the video described other than even with everything loose I had to have a helper force the hitch toward driver side with a pry bar to get the exhaust hanger/hitch bolts to line up with the existing nut-plates. Nice fit and finish and a straight forward job. The 18050 Bike Rack Strap that Curt says you must have for warranty is ok but looks like it'll rub on the spoiler when installed. Haven't put the bike rack on yet so that's a wait and see. 167256

product delivery was fast. There was 1 missing nut (1/2" flange nut). Without the video help, it would have taken much longer. Video was quite through except for the connection to the battery from the back of the car. The included wire should have been at least 1 foot longer. I was careful with placement of the wire and it was barely long enough. This part of the video was not done at all. It would have helped to show where to put the wire to keep it out of harms way. All in all the videos for the wiring and hitch install were good. 39668

This hitch was a breeze to install. We didn't even jack up the car. It took about 45 minutes to install. The hardest part was cutting the under body plastic to allow for the hitch. I watched the instructional video before I bought it and again before installing the hitch. Didn't even read the instructions except for the torque values. The only complaint is that it is tucked so far under the car that the bike rack is too close to the bumper. I'll have to remove a pedal from the inboard bike to prevent scratching the bumper 58781

I love how everything fits together without having to make modifications except for a small cut on the under panel cover. I really liked the tools provided which makes installation pretty easy. It looks really nice and now I'm ready to carry my mountain bikes without worrying about damaging my trunk! Great product!! 183147
Box managed to get a hole poked thru it during shipping, but did not lose any of the parts as they were well secured inside. Hitch went on easily, but was very helpful to watch the You-Tube video. Only problem was cutting the slot for the receiver to slide over the plastic cover under the rear passenger side. A template would be nice to have. Otherwise things went together well and I'm very satisfied and would recommend this product to others with light trailers (I'm using mine to tow a kayak trailer). 155443
Super product and great institutions. All the attachment holes lined-up almost perfectly. It was so easy, I decided to purchase another Curt hitch for our second vehicle, a Honda Odyssey. Both hitches are for the purpose of carrying bike racks; the 1.25" on the VW Jetta Sportwagen for two bikes and the 2" on the Odyssey for 4 bikes. Etrailer.com provides fast service. Great communication; I never had to wonder when the order would arrive. Cheaper and more gratifying than paying U-Haul to add a hitch. 257846

This is a tough one. The hitch works great and I don't believe it could have been designed any differently. Took some doing to get it installed but the average guy can do it. The hard part for this review is that it greatly lowers the clearance of the rear of the car. I regularly scrape/grind the bottom of the hitch on pavement as I pull out of of parking lots. I've even shortened it and it still scrapes/grinds on a regular basis. And this is without a load on it. Just the hitch with nothing in/on it. 239833

Excellent design and easy to follow instructions. I am really amazed you have a customized hitch ready for a 2011 Jetta Sportwagon. Seems like it would take a while to have it available for such a new car. The standard UPS shipping was super quick, and I really liked the map feature on the tracking page. 10048

My husband installed this on our 2013 Jetta Sportwagon TDI today and were really surprised how easy it was. We are not hobby mechanics, but do know one end of a screwdriver from another. We borrowed a lift and it took us 135 minutes to install. The video and directions on this website were most helpful. However, if you have a diesel engine, you can ignore the step that says to remove the vapor canister. We installed this part so we could mount a bicycle rack. Looks like it will work great. 237748

I purchase the Curtis trailer hitch for my 2014 Jetta. The installation took approximately 90 minutes from set up to clean up. The installation video made the install much easier.. I mounted my bike rack and all works great... The only complaint I have is with the UPS delivery person. I have a huge farmers porch and for some unknown reason the delivery person left the package infront of my garage in the pooring rain. I came home to a water logged box that was falling apart... 181452

Purchased a Curt Class 2 for our 2007 VW Jetta. Spent 45 seconds looking over the directions and had it installed in less than 45 minutes with some help from my son. Did not even put the car up on ramps or stands, just laid right on the nice cool concrete floor of the garage. I would post a picture, but I did not take any. Perfect fit right out of the box. Saved me money on both the hitch and the install and free shipping is a huge bonus! I will buy from these guys again. 89862
Simple install, I used to turn wrenches on RV's and have installed many hitches, but that was 30 years ago. The no drill designs are great. Took maybe an hour and I wasn't rushing. Next up will be a bike rack and wiring set up. Not that I'm going to pull much with a Jetta, but my driftboat doesn't weigh much. Oh, on the TDL there is no fuel vapor canister, makes it even easier. The on line video was great, fast shipping and wonderful follow-up. Thanks. 162439

Just got done installing the hitch. My wife helped and we are still married. She read the directions and it went very good. Took about 40 minutes to install. Instructions were easy to understand and follow. The only tricky part was cutting the slot in the plastic underbody panel. It was easier to hold it in place and guess where the slot went. The measurements given didn't seem correct. Over all very happy with the fit and finish for a great price. 195221

This item works great on my Jetta. The description photos, (and VIDEO!) of the hitch this site were completely accurate and I'm very pleased with my purchase. The customer service however, was phenomenal! I recieved e-mails throughout the purchase/shipping period updating me on the status of my order. Not to mention, my shipping was upgraded for free! Thanks, etrailer! I will be ordering all my trailer/accessories here from now on. 62214
This was the easiest install I have done of the two prior vehicles I hve done in the past few years. Three pull wires included so I didn't have to worry about losing the bolts in the frame while putting the hitch on the car. Be sure to move the muffler insulation away from the holes in the bracket, just a little covering the holes makes it super hard to start the bolts. I did this installation by myself in a little over a hour. 54073

Hitch looks great and isn't dragging on pavement like the one I had on my mark IV jetta. Installation took about 1.5 hour. Would have taken less if I hadn't put one of the passenger side bolts in the wrong hole. Use the two holes most forward, even though the middle one looks different. Also plan on using a pry bar on the driver side to get the exhaust hangar bolts started, as the heat shield keeps them from lining up properly. 60545

The hitch installation went without a hitch (no pun intended). Took a little bit longer than a professional installation requires do to different lifting of vehicle but the video was extremely helpful! Only negative point I can make is that some of the powder coating was chipped. Have to take some paint and do some touch up work. The wiring that ETrailer's recommending is a complete pain in the rear end installation! 86088

Thanks to the video this was a straight forward install on my 2009 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. Things fit well. I did this alone and found that jacking up the driver side of the hitch made installing the screws on the passenger side easier. Still, I was nervous until I had the first nut fastened and was sure not to lose the bolt into the frame. I wish the hitch came with a rubber cover for when the bar is not attached. 57466

Installation was straight forward after watching the video for installation on a 2006 Jetta Sedan. I found the fishwire operation on the last bolt after the hitch was in place was a little tricky. Solved by threading 1/8 inch teflon tubing from bolt hole to access hole and inserting fishwrire in the end of tubing at access hole. Then you can just push the fishwire and it follows the tubing out the bolt hole. 17933

I had a great experience with this company. They had exactly what I needed which was a tow package for my 2009 Jetta. Ordering was a breeze and I had it in about four days with free shipping. It bolted right onto my car in about half an hour. I was able to do it myself with easy to follow instructions provided with the product. I would definitely use this company again and recommend it to anyone. 90447

My second Curt hitch. I like the appearance of the round tubular hitch. Service reliable and delivery quick. The only shortfall on the instructions was that it was not clear which holes in the frame got the bolts that were fished in, and of course I got it wrong the first time. I had to remove both bolts to reinstall in holes farther forward. Otherwise, fine product and instructions. 166329
