This fully welded trailer hitch receiver bolts onto your vehicle's frame with no welding required. Powder coated steel is sturdy and corrosion resistant.I took it to the VW dealership to get it professionally installed. Installation cost more than the hitch did. I bought a ski rack and a bike rack on (another site). The hitch works perfectly with both racks.
Installation Instructions Notes:
I'm a complete novice at auto repair, but I had help from a friend with more experience. It took about 4 hours. You do need two people, particularly when mounting the bumper and trailer hitch components together. We didn't need to lift the rear of the car, though it might have been less claustrophobic has we done so. Still, most of the time was not spent under the car. No oil or grease at all, by the way.
The color photos in the online PDF installation manual are much better than the gray-scale images in the paper instructions that come with the product. Even still, I found that it was difficult to understand the photo orientation. Some directional arrows would have been helpful.
Step 1
a. There are only 12 screws, not 13.
b. Also, it was not possible to remove the panel after removing those screws. Fortunately it turned out to be unnecessary. Just leave it in place.
c. Notice the two "retainer-style fasteners". These are rectangular plastic receptacles with smaller screws (for which you will need a smaller torx bit). When you remove the screws, the receptacles will fall out as well - be careful not to lose these.
Step 2
a. Took me a while to understand what was the "black plastic taillight cover located next to the taillight." The cover is literally adjacent to the taillight, and roughly the same size as well. For reference, there's a small square panel in the middle of it which specifies what type of bulb to use.
b. The two push-clips on this panel are located alongside the taillight itself.
c. The "I pass gas (stations)" sticker is cute, but there wasn't one on my car.
Step 6
a. The instructions don't mention it, but position the tow-bar flange against the car body first, and the bumper flange on the outside. In other words, when you put the screws in they will pass through the bumper flange first, then the tow bar flange.
b. The instructions say something about bending the small bumper beam hang tabs. I didn't find any such tabs, and didn't need to bend them.
Step 7
a. As you reinstall the plastic wheel well trim (which was partially removed in Step 3), notice that the clips have a straight plastic flange alongside of them, to the lower or rear of the clip. Be sure to guide these flanges carefully into the metal hole, or else they will bend out of shape and prevent the clips from fitting properly. If they bend (which they did in my case), you can still straighten them with your fingers and they'll work fine.
My hitch arrived just 4 days after I ordered it and this was the week of Christmas! That was indicative of how well the install went. Following the written instructions and a[n online] video of another person installing a similar hitch, I had all the confidence and information to pull off the install. Amazingly straightforward. Just had to get over the fear of pulling and breaking the plastic trim on my brand new car. I didn't. The install went exactly as planned and took about 2 hours. It looks like it belongs on the car and I'm pleased with the fact that it sticks out only about 1/2 inch.

After a year I can say that I dont regret the choice at all. I added a decorative cover and when Im not hauling my bike, the cars look is only enhanced. Quality is top-notch with OEM fit and finish.
Added this to my 2021 VW ID.4 Pro-S RWD. Easy instructions and simple to install. Having an extra set of hands will be helpful when installing the hitch receiver under the crash bar.
This wasn't to tough of a job to do, however, I highly recommend two people to help with the job. I took a couple of pictures to maybe help some others out. Also there is a picture of a purple connector that is attached to the bumper that I would suggest disconnecting as well. Also, I did not remove the small plastic panel next to the rear tail lights as you can see in the one of the pictures. Great product and I would highly recommend!
It showed up as advertised and installed as advertised. Can't ask for more that it doing exactly what it was supposed to do.
I've installed trailer hitches on 5 vehicles now and this one was the smoothest of them all. Very good instructions (the full color version on the website). I had two issues, one is takes a bit of finesse to hold the hitch and bumper while putting the bolts in due to the weight. An extra set of hands would come in handy here. Also, don't forget to hook the wiring back in behind the bumper covering before you put all the screws back in! Oops. :-)
Great fit on my 2021 VW ID.4. Discrete look with hitch entirely hidden except for receiver which comes through the factory opening the bottom of the bumper cover.
Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The hitch fit perfectly, is made far more sturdy than my bike rack requirements. The installation took the approximate 2 hrs the instructions stated. The installation was completed with the car on the ground. .
Item is stout, weighs 30-40#. Installation went smoothly with instructions from website. Item arrived promptly. No problems. Would recommend highly.
Got back to me promptly. Sent the correct hitch for my id4 and it installed easily. Took two of us around 1:45 to install.
Great Product.
Instructions to install Perfect.

Its been absolutely fine, zero issues. I use this hitch to attach a bike rack, and I do have problems with that - it interferes with the backup camera, which on this car is difficult to turn off. When bikes are mounted its very hard to back up, as the auto-braking kicks in of the bikes so much as sway a quarter inch. But the hitch itself is fine.
