Specs:
The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.
With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.
This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

This custom-fit trailer hitch with a hidden cross tube installs behind your vehicle's rear bumper, leaving only the receiver visible beneath it. Aluminum and steel alloy construction is durable and eco-friendly. Powder coat finish resists rust.Hitch is rusting badly at safety chain loops. The hitch is strictly used for a bike rack with no contact at those locations. Can’t imagine what condition would be if this hitch was used to tow with.
This would be the second time doing a hitch like this. Please do yourself a favor and go buy 2 1/2” x 1/2-13 grade 8 bolts. The 2” bolts are barely long enough. Other than that the install went perfect and was very easy to install. There is a small wire that you have to be careful of while cutting the rear diffuser.
Hitch was perfect for my needs. Definitely like the way it looks on my Atlas. I did go buy longer hex bolts which made installation much easier.
Be patient with the short screws. They will work. I installed the nut and lock washer first. Then went back around and added the flat washer in the correct order. It worked like a charm.
The trailer hitch fits my Atlas very nicely, and I'm happy that I didn't have to sacrifice ground clearance.
Installation was difficult though, for 2 reasons. First, it's really hard to find where to cut. Even finding the center wasn't straightforward, I was off by ?". A template would have been nice.
Second, the included bolts are too short. I couldn't get the washer and the nut on, and had to swap for a longer bolt.
But once installed, everything was great.
This trailer hitch fit my truck well and the install was pretty straightforward. I have towed a trailer and put a bike rack on it holding four bikes. I have not had any issues with the hitch.
The only issue I had was that the bolt lengths could have been a 1/4" longer. On one of the four bolts I could not get both the washer and the nut to fit.
As others have stated, bolts are too small. There is only two or so exposed threads before torquing so trying to thread on two washers and a bolt is very difficult when the bolt wants to push into the frame and with limited room to get two hands in there. Also the bolt does not lock in the plate in the frame completely so torquing to 70 ft lbs is difficult when the bolt wants to spin, even with the internal lock washer. All these problems are inconveniences, but the hitch works great and looks even better.
Excellent Product. Sits 5" higher than Competitors products. This is better than the Factory OEM model as that is rated for 1900 lbs. This is rated for 500lbs. Customer service was excellent and CODY was amazing. He implemented a Quick Ship seamlessly. CODY represents etrailer at its finest
Great fit with the VW Atlas. Trickiest part of the install was the securing of the bolts closes to the rear bumper, just not a lot of room to get in there and thread the bolt on. Other wise, instructions with illustrations were great and bang on target. Really happy with the product.

James, I can see why you are upset with all that rust.. the only thing I can recommend is periodically spraying the hitch with freshwater if it's exposed to salt or salt water. You can lightly sand off any surface rust and spray the hitch with a rust-o-leum type paint.
