Things that I liked about this product, 1) very nice workmanship, well made. 2) installation very straight forward, no issues. Things that I didn't like, 1) Such a nice product finished with powder coating. It may look nice, but it does not last. Paint holds up so much better. 2) No bracket for the trailer lights connector. The original had a mount welded in place. Kurt states no welding, no drilling on new hitch. Toyota has an odd plug that is larger than other standard ones. Ended up fabricating a mount bracket of my own, which = time.
I would buy this product again if necessary, e-trailer is great to deal with and none of the problems were of their doings

After searching for a hitch , i found this product from etrailer. This trailer hitch was very reasonably priced and the shipment was very fast. After receiving the hitch, it only took about 30 minutes to install. This product is extremely well built. The welds are excellent, and i especially like the tow hook rings. I use this truck for a landscaping trailer and fishing boat.
Great product was a great company .
THANKS

Thanks for the follow up. I have used this trailer hitch extensively, and it is a great product. Its also a pleasure to deal with a company that genuinely cares about its customers. You will get all my business as I need more products, and I will let all my friends know about etrailer also. Have a great day.

Going great! As strong as ever, and havent even chipped any of the paint.

Excellent product and superior service! It arrived in a couple of days and
an easy install.
Here is a helpful hint. To support the bumper I used two cargo straps (the
kind with no hooks). With the tailgate open drop the non buckle end between
the tailgate and body. Close the tailgate and wrap the straps under and
around the bumper and tailgate. Tighten them and the bumper is supported
with nothing in your way! Pretty slick, see attached photos

Thanks for the tip on keeping the bumper up. It looks like a good way to do it. I will use this way when I install mine. Did you need help holding the hitch in place?

by:

Absolutely exceptional company to do business with. Fast shipping, A+ communication and this hitch was perfectly engineered. Installation was a breeze and literally bolted onto my Tacoma…. No grinding, no drilling, no fighting with it to get it to fit.

It took me about 1 hour by myself, and looks like it came from the factory.

To me, another positive is this hitch is made in the USA!

by:
2015 ToyotaTacoma

I received the hitch and it looked good. I took it out the box it came in. Went to install it and noticed one of the sides was bent in, this probably happened during shipping. I used a rubbed mallet to beat the side back out to get it to fit up against the bed rails. Other than that the installation was simple and easy.

It works well. I haven’t had any problems with it Knock on wood The only problem I had was when I first got it and it was bent a little bit but I was able to straighten it and get it on.

I installed the following on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner. Watching all the related etrailer installation videos will give you an excellent idea of what to expect. Having an extra pair of hands removing the rear bumper and installing the hitch is a must. I admit it would have been nice to have a lift and impact wrench. ;) Otherwise pretty straight forward. The wiring harness and mounting brackets were just as simple. Again, just follow all the etrailer videos. See photo 1 for finished install. Sorry for the poor quality pic.

Works like a charm. I'm satisfied!

Side note: I used the longer receiver mounting bracket (18136) in conjunction with the 4-Pole Flat mounting bracket(18144). The wire connector is almost even with the back of the receiver tube. See photo 2.

* 13323 - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2"
* 118496 - T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector
* 18136 - No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long
* 18144 - Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat

Because I am volunteering to help pull a trailer once a month for a local charity, this particular product definitely made the project a viable solution. The great ratings on this hitch, price, and turn around time on shipping were an obvious plus. I will be keeping etrailer bookmarked for any future towing needs. Wouldn't hesitate recommending etrailer to a friend.

2012 ToyotaTacoma

When I ordered this trailer hitch for my 2012 Toyota Tacoma from etrailer.com it was expressed mailed free of charge! Three days later, there it was on my front porch! The etrailer video that explains how to install the hitch was easy to understand. Although it's recommended that two people install the hitch, I was able to do it myself using a car jack to hold one end up while I attached the other end. Total installment time by myself was 50 minutes. I was going to have a professional do the wiring, but etrailer makes it so simple that I may do that job myself at a great price!

by:

Best part about this hitch is its made in the USA. It went on flawlessly and looks great. The finish is shinny powder coating and the fit is perfect. I also added a 4 pin wiring harness bracket that holds the connector up and out of sight.

by:

The hitch receiver was taped at the end including to wrappings of paper cardboard around the crossbar. The box was beat up really bad by UPS and resulted a few minor dings and scratches on the crossbar and receiver. Yes, UPS has some responsibility for mishandling the package but etrailer did not pack this well in my opinion.

by:

The quality of this hitch is top notch. Heavy duty, sturdy and well built. The installation instructions made the project very easy to install. This product was a perfect fit and I would definitively buy from this company again. Thanks etrailer and keep up the great work.

by:

Installation of this hitch was a breeze! And it can be done by one person! Instruccions were legible and clear and this hitch was cheaper than e*** or a*****! Plus backed by the guarantee im only buying my hitchs from etrailer.com!!

I ordered the hitch on Sunday night, and it arrived Wednesday afternoon. Installation was quick and easy, taking me just under an hour to do by myself. I'd order another hitch from and recommend etrailer.com to any of my friends.

by:

The hitch is beefy and the welds look strong. All bolt holes lined up nicely with the threaded holes in the truck frame, once a fitment issue (see below) was resolved. Very nice powder coating too.

A few things caused me to delete a star:

1) the hitch didn't fit at first, because both end plates were bent inward so it wouldn't fit around the frame rails. It was about 1/2" too short. I used a pipe clamp with a 4' section of pipe as a lever to straighten the end plates, then the hitch fit the frame rails snugly and all holes lined up. See photos.

2) The bumper bracket shims that compensate for the end plate thickness are not the same thickness as the end plates! End plates appear to be 1/4" thick, shims are maybe 3/16". Strange, and something (either the bumper, or its mounting brackets) will bend when tightening up the bolts. Why aren't the shims the correct thickness?

3) With the hitch in place the shims are very difficult to install - there's no room for your hands. I finally got it done, but I wish the instructions had recommended installing the shims first, that would have been much easier. But both the printed instructions and the instructional videos show them going in last. I don't see any reason that you must install the shims after the hitch, but I could be wrong. Oh well I got them in, after some vague obscenities - live and learn.

4) Packing was marginal. The box was partially blown out where the receiver section of the hitch pressed against it. No damage in this case, but better packaging might be a good idea.

Other than those complaints I'm quite satisfied with the hitch, it looks good and appears to be very strong - in fact its capacity of 5000lbs is greater than my Tacoma at 3500lbs. Nice product.

by:
2014 ToyotaTacoma

The installation was straightforward, the instructions were very clear. I will definitely be recommending this company to my friends.

by:
2010 ToyotaTacoma

Received the package and noticed that the contents had shifted creating a hole through the cardboard. The hitch, hardware and wiring harness appear to be ok. Until the hirch is installed i really won't know if there are any issues.
The hitch and harness look we made.

There should be a rating higher than "Excellant" for the two products I bought, trailerhitch and wiring harness....
Both of these were so easy to install I was "blown away" by the ease of installation...
But I do have ONE HUGE suggestion....Either include a CD-ROM for the installations, or at least include something that says go to your web site and watch the videos. Your step-by-step video instructions were awesome. The written directions tell you to removr two bolts and loosen three and then mount the hitch, NO WAY, it's much easier to do it like your video tells you to. I took my laptop out to the garage and watched the video during the install and could pause it and do that step, pause and restart :) :) :) LOVED IT......

Great! No problems at all. Used on my 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup to tow a 13 Casita travel trailer on a trip from Kinsale, VA to Argentia, Newfoundland Canada! A trip of about 6000 miles. The hitch was very easily installed and the instructions were very thorough. Thanks much!!

Fits like a glove! I also was replacing a rusted out bumper and the only additional pieces you may need if you are replacing an original OEM hitch, would be the left and right bumper brackets.

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2014 Toyota Tacoma w/out a Factory Hitch
    The etrailer Hitch item # e98850 you were looking at, is custom fit so the holes will line up on your 2014 Toyota Tacoma if you do not have a factory hitch installed. This hitch does include all of the necessary mounting hardware to complete the installation. If you have the factory hitch it must be removed and the holes will not line up. All of the aftermarket hitches for the 2014 Toyota Tacoma are the same way. As far as a video goes we only have a video of the Curt item # 13323 being...

I've linked you to the installation instructions as well as to an install video that you might find helpful. The # 37042 hitch you referred to has been discontinued, but when it was available it was a fit for a first generation (2001-2007 model years). It would not be a fit for your Tacoma. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Tacoma
    Both the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13323 and the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 75236 would work well for you. These Class III trailer hitches have a 2 inch receiver, 5,000 pound max towing weight and 500 pound max tongue weight. For installation, both hitches require the bumper brackets to be loosed or removed. I would go with the Curt trailer hitch, as it is more economically friendly than Draw-Tite. The trailer hitch will bolt into existing weld nuts on your truck's frame....

    Between the Draw Tite # 75236 and the Curt # 13323 there isn't a significant difference in ground clearance. They both fit right up to the bottom of the rear bumper. Overall I would go with the Curt though. We have found that typically the quality control is a bit tighter on the Curt hitches and the powdercoat is a little more resilient.

    I did some research on the Coleman Evolution, and it appears that a typical weight distribution system would work just fine with the layout of the tongue. If you have propane bottles on your pop-up, they might interfere with the chain hangers that fit around the top of the trailer frame.
