Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Toyota Tacoma - Curt

Today, on this 2015 Toyota Tacoma, we're going to show you part number 13323. This is a Curt Class 3 2-inch receiver hitch. This is what the hitch looks like once it's installed on a Tacoma. Go ahead and take a quick look at the front here. At the very edge, the receiver has reinforcement ring around it. It's kind of got a squared off shape tube 00:00:24 but with rounded corners. Let me take a look on the bottom here.

We have our 2 loops for our safety chains. The hitch pinhole uses a 5/8 hitch pin or locking hitch pin. We'll take a look at the rest of the receiver tube that goes towards the back, towards the reinforcement. It uses a side plate right here that reaches between the bumper bracket and the frame. It does reuse all of the existing fasteners in the bumper bracket, but at the very bottom of the frame, there's 2 more fasteners that uses existing weld nuts in the frame, and the hitch does come with new bolts to go into those weld nuts. First off, this hitch is designed to pull a 5,000 pound hitch with a 500 pound tongue weight. When you add a weight distribution assembly between your truck and trailer, your tongue weight actually goes into 550 pounds, and the pull weight for your trailer goes up to 5,500 pounds.

Always check your owner's manual to make sure that your vehicle can pull these types of weights. Next we'll go ahead and give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. Top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be about 14 1/4 inches. This truck is available in a variety of tire sizes, this inaudible 00:01:34 measurement off a little bit. Also from the center of the hitch pinhole to the edge of the bumper will be about 3 1/2 inches. Now we'll go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed on our Tacoma. To start off our install, we need to go ahead and loosen up the bumper.

We need to go behind the bumper and there's a variety of bolts we have to loosen up. We're on the driver's side behind the bumper. We need to loosen up these 2 bolts and then these 2 here, and this one as well. We're going to loosen these up as far as they can go, but not take them out, and still be safe to hold the structure together. We're going to use a 70 mm socket to loosen up these bolts. Our driver's side is done.

Let's do the same thing over on our passenger's side. Once we have all our bolts loosened up, we'll go ahead and remove these 2 bolts. You want to verify and make sure this bolt's in place and these 2 are as well. With these 2 bolts loose, you can see how the bumper gets loose as well. If you can, try to pull this bracket out. Our hitch will fit between the frame and the frame bracket. We're still on our passenger side. We'll do the same thing over on our driver's side. Let's also take a look at underneath our frame here. There's 2 thread holes. It's a good idea to take one of the hitch bolts and make sure you can run the bolt inside the threads to make sure it's clean. If not, you may have to do a few steps to clean up the threads; just need a spray lubricant and a tube brush. The tube brush we're using is part number 814092. Even though this is a new truck, there still could be paint, dirt or debris trapped up in there. This is the driver's side we're looking at. There'll be identical holes over on the passenger's side as well. We'll go ahead and discover 00:03:46 some of the hardware that we used to install the hitch. This is the bolt which is used to clean out the threads. We used a inaudible 00:03:52-tooth washer. You want to make sure the teeth on the washer always face towards the hitch. This far 00:03:57 we'll go these 2 points on the hitch on both sides. Now we'll get an extra set of hands to help hold the hitch up, and we'll install this hardware. We got one bolt on each side holding the hitch up in place. We'll go ahead and snug 00:04:23 this down, it'll bring the hitch up. Looking to install our second bolt. We'll use a 3/4 inch socket on our new hardware. I still want to leave our bolts loose enough to move the hitch around as needed. Let's go ahead and re-install original fasteners here and here. Let's go ahead and run down just a little bit. That was our passenger side; let's do it again over on our driver's side. We'll just take a flack 00:05:21 here for now, and then we'll go ahead and turn our attention to these 2 bolts here in the bumper. You'll notice that there's a space left over now. We need to take one bolt at a time and install a spacer to go in between the 2. This is our bolt; we'll go ahead and take it out; remember 00:05:41: one at a time. This is our spacer block we'll put into place. We'll loosely reinstall the bolt. Let's go on to the next one closer to the bumper. This will definitely take some flexibility to get in there. That's the last 2 for our driver's side. Let's go ahead and do the same thing on our passenger's side. Sometimes you may have to loosen up your bolts again, just a little bit to give you some working room. Once we have all our bolts loosely installed, we'll go ahead and tighten them up. We'll start with these 3 bolts first. We'll snug these down both sides and make sure the bumper's sitting where we want it, with tilt 00:06:46 and left to right. Then we'll go ahead, once we're satisfied with that, we'll tighten down the bumper bracket bolts. With all our bolts tightened down, we'll go ahead and torque the bolts down as best by the instructions. That will finish it for part number 13323 from Curt, the Class 3 2-inch receiver hitch on our 2015 Toyota Tacoma. .

I installed the following on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma PreRunner. Watching all the related etrailer installation videos will give you an excellent idea of what to expect. Having an extra pair of hands removing the rear bumper and installing the hitch is a must. I admit it would have been nice to have a lift and impact wrench. ;) Otherwise pretty straight forward. The wiring harness and mounting brackets were just as simple. Again, just follow all the etrailer videos. See photo 1 for finished install. Sorry for the poor quality pic. Works like a charm. I'm satisfied! Side note: I used the longer receiver mounting bracket (18136) in conjunction with the 4-Pole Flat mounting bracket(18144). The wire connector is almost even with the back of the receiver tube. See photo 2. * 13323 - Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" * 118496 - T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector * 18136 - No-Drill Mount Bracket, Long * 18144 - Mounting Bracket 4-Pole Flat Because I am volunteering to help pull a trailer once a month for a local charity, this particular product definitely made the project a viable solution. The great ratings on this hitch, price, and turn around time on shipping were an obvious plus. I will be keeping etrailer bookmarked for any future towing needs. Wouldn't hesitate recommending etrailer to a friend. 111958

Recently purchased a Curt reciever hitch along with a wiring harness from Etrailers for a 5 lug Toyota Tacoma. The build quality matches my experience of other hitches on other vehicles (trucks, vans, suv's). Curt was the cheapest Etrailers offered which made it my choice. The reciever has good penetration of the welds, quality bolts, exacting tolerances. High gloss paint has good coverage and apperars to have good adhesion. Only time will tell how long the paint holds up. Hitch came in a rather stout carboard box with hand holds. Hitch was well secured in the box, sharp corners were padded/taped. Wiring harness and additional items were also attached to the reciever to prevent harm during shipping. The online videos that Etrailers provides cuts some time off of mounting as well. The wiring harness is a must. Ive spent 30 years splicing and repairing wires on towing vehicles and am sick of it. The harness is by far the best way to go, connections stay protected etc. My only complaint is that shipping seemed a little slow. Slow to get out of the distribution center and slow on the truck. Id rather watch paint dry than watch tracking. Still the shipping was free, and when someone gives you something then i shouldnt be too picky. I would buy from Etrailers again, good quality, good prices, good service. 41647

I ordered the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for my 2005 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab. My Tacoma does not have the towing package so I ordered it primarily for carrying bicycles. The free shipping was great as I received the hitch within three days. The instructions called for a two man installation. I am a small person at 5'4" and 120 lbs and was able to perform the install myself with an ATV jack with a plywood board mounted to it. Before the hitch arrived, I removed the rear bumper as instructed. This gave me an opportunity to clean out all of the leaves and spider nests. When the hitch arrived, I lifted it in place with the ATV jack and followed the instructions. The hitch mounted into place with very little effort and the bumper mounting pins did not have to be removed. Mounting of the bumper using the ATV jack was very easy. Since I don't have the towing package, I did not have to perform any wiring. The total time spent was equivalent to a half day. This included taking the time to clean all of the parts removed from the pickup. 181367

Excellent product and superior service! It arrived in a couple of days and an easy install. Here is a helpful hint. To support the bumper I used two cargo straps (the kind with no hooks). With the tailgate open drop the non buckle end between the tailgate and body. Close the tailgate and wrap the straps under and around the bumper and tailgate. Tighten them and the bumper is supported with nothing in your way! Pretty slick, see attached photos 49144

Thanks for the tip on keeping the bumper up. It looks like a good way to do it. I will use this way when I install mine. Did you need help holding the hitch in place?

There should be a rating higher than "Excellant" for the two products I bought, trailerhitch and wiring harness.... Both of these were so easy to install I was "blown away" by the ease of installation... But I do have ONE HUGE suggestion....Either include a CD-ROM for the installations, or at least include something that says go to your web site and watch the videos. Your step-by-step video instructions were awesome. The written directions tell you to removr two bolts and loosen three and then mount the hitch, NO WAY, it's much easier to do it like your video tells you to. I took my laptop out to the garage and watched the video during the install and could pause it and do that step, pause and restart :) :) :) LOVED IT...... 56608

Best part about this hitch is its made in the USA. It went on flawlessly and looks great. The finish is shinny powder coating and the fit is perfect. I also added a 4 pin wiring harness bracket that holds the connector up and out of sight. 147090

As this was my second hitch purchase from ETrailer I expected and experienced no less than advertised. The hitches from ETrailer are built with extreme precision so all the holes line up perfectly. The video installation clips were very helpful because I was teaching my grandson, Luke how to install a major device and the importance of following step by step in a situation requiring a retrofit and not to remove bolts when the instruction says "loosen". Because it was a teaching event, it took longer than the standard time AND because my impact wrench was a 1975 model and about 15 inches long with the socket, we had to do it the old fashion way. Still it only took 1 hour 15 minutes to complete and clean up. I'll not shop anywhere else for items I can find on Etrailer.com. 118184

When I ordered this trailer hitch for my 2012 Toyota Tacoma from etrailer.com it was expressed mailed free of charge! Three days later, there it was on my front porch! The etrailer video that explains how to install the hitch was easy to understand. Although it's recommended that two people install the hitch, I was able to do it myself using a car jack to hold one end up while I attached the other end. Total installment time by myself was 50 minutes. I was going to have a professional do the wiring, but etrailer makes it so simple that I may do that job myself at a great price! 29512

The Curt Hitch with T-One Wiring Harness was shipped and arrived very quickly, however the shipping box was very lightweight corrugate and the hitch ends had punched through the bottom. No damage though. Would highly recommend using heavier duty packaging for this 46 lb item. This Curt Hitch is of very high quality. I installed it by myself with no major problems in a little over 2 hours using manual wrenches. Note: Strapping the bumper to the tailgate, as mentioned in another customer's review, really made the job easier. The wiring harness was also a snap to install. I am very impressed with etrailer's communication, fast shipping, follow-up and overall customer service. When in the market for future auto accessories, etrailer will definitely be my first choice. 66356

Just installed the hitch on a new 2014 Toyota Tacoma. Took about 1.5 hours by myself. Suspended the bumper from the tailgate using straps and also supported it in the center with a 5 gallon plastic bucket and 1/4 inch plywood. Instructions fairly good and video on your website very helpful. Highly recommend installing the 2 bumper bolts first when reinstalling the Toyota bumper bracket after bolting the hitch to the frame with bottom bolts. Then you can easily move bumper to line up the 3 holes on the frame instead of vice versa. Easy install and fits great. ED 111323

I got a quote from a local Toyota dealer and the quote was astronomical (about 5 times higher than what I paid for the hitch!). I couldn't afford to have the dealer install the hitch and I needed it for a utility trailer and boat trailer. I purchased the hitch and on Saturday I installed it. The only assisstance I needed, besides the written instructions, was to ask my wife to help hold it in place while I got a couple of bolts started. I did not have any problems. It took between 2 and 2 1/2 hours. Thankyou for a great product and timely delivery! 49069

This trailer hitch receiver fit my Tacoma precisely as advertised. The instructions were simple and the job took me less time than the instructions indicated, a perfect fit. I made my order on Monday and the package arrived on Thursday. Thanks for the shipping upgrade at no additional charge. The wiring harness is top of the line technology and was a breeze to install. No hassles with splicing wires or running circuit test. Total time to install hitch and wiring harness 1hour 10 minutes. Good luck. 9090

The web page made selection of the right product easy to find for my particular vehicle. The item was shipped and arrived in specified time frames and installation of the item (Curt Tow Hitch) was installed in a very short time. Instructions were easy to follow and no problems were encountered. All in all, the product that I purchased and its installation was a positive experience with no complications at all. Etrailer lived up to its billing and I would recommend them to friends and family. 58760

Your online videos are extremely helpful in preparing for installation. I installed the towbar assembly with the vehicle on the ground. I used a jack and a piece of 2x4 which allowed me to move the assembly right into place without any assistance. The accompanying wiring kit was also very easy to install, and again, the video was a extremely helpful. I remember the days of cutting and splicing, and this was nothing like it. Total time working alone (and taking my time) was 2.5 hours. 39237

by: Mark D.09/17/2012

The hitch was delivered sooner than expected. The installation video was very valuable. Suspending the rear bumper with straps around the tailgate helped. I did have difficulty torqueing the rear bolts on the bottom of the hitch because they were not very accessible, but I think that was because I did not have a torque wrench that would fit in between the hitch bar and the bolt head. All-in-all I had a great experience with the purchase and installation of this hitch. 54936

The installation was pretty simple. It took me a few hours because I did it alone. I wish I had another hand, but I just put blocks under it until I got real close to the frame. It slid up between the bumper bracket and the frame because I left the bolts real loose.Once I lined up the bolt holes under the hitch,I started to install the bolts.I installed it without lifting the truck. Your paper instructions were perfect. I just need to borrow a torque wrench. Thanks. 191003

Have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma installed item 13323 and the only problems that I encountered were rusty bolts, which I was warned about. The other problem was the receiver was too narrow for the frame by 1/4 of an inch. I called your help line and they said this happens sometimes so the recommendation was that I spread that out using either wrenches or some sort of a spreading device or brute force. This was the only problem and the help line was very helpful. 62751

Very happy with my experiece with etrailer. The price for everything (hitch, mount, wiring, pin) was about the same as the price for just the hitch at the local retailer, and using the free ground shipping, it only took about 3 working days for my purchase to arrive. The products were as advertised, and with a few sockets and some help holding the bumper, the hitch was easy to install. The wiring for trailer light connection was also very easy to install. 26363

I actually just finished installing this 2 hours ago on my 2006 Tacoma X-Runner. I thought this would be much more difficult, but turned out to be quite easy. It only took 90 minutes, I did it alone and stripped a bumper screw (not related to the hitch, my fault). The hitch is beautifully made, nice welds and thick coating. It came with all necessary hardware and was fairly easy to install with the included directions. I highly recommend this hitch! 31337

- 13323

by: John B.07/21/2013

This hitch went on very easy. My son helped with the install since I had nothing to hold the hitch in place while installing. I recommend using a rubber mallet to coerce the hitch to line up with all the screw holes. Also, wear safety glasses because a lot of dust/dirt will fall when loosening the existing screws. The product fit my Tacoma perfectly and I felt I couldn't have had a better end result even if I had Toyota install their own unit. 90727

The hitch took about 1-1/2 hrs to install and it fitted perfectly. It has a nice hard powder coat finish and has a good appearance. The wiring loom for the trailer plugin also fitted perfectly. I also got the "L" shaped sheetmetal piece that holds the end of the truck plug where the wires from the trailer plug in. That also fitted perfectly. In all, I would say this is a very good product of high quality and is simple to install. 10475

The etrailer hitch is fantastic, easy install, great imfo, the videos are very helpful. Installed the hitch on my 2006 Tacoma. Used the tie down method from one of the videos, installer wrap the belts around the raised tailgate to support the bumper. Great idea, I tried it that way and it worked great, no heavy lifting and can be done all alone if you don't have help. Great company, thanks etailer!!! 184286

Absolutely no problems reading the directions and installing. I'm glad I had an impact wrench and would highly suggest anyone installing a hitch to have one or borrow one. Would advise to glue or lightly tape the spacers to the bumper attachment rail (fills the gap made by the trailer hitch/frame) before trying to screw the bumper back on. You'll know what I mean once you get the part. 22413

2014 Toyota Tacoma - towing hitch. Product specifications were spot on and delivery was quick. Installation video was very helpful and using straps around the tailgate to suspend the bumper worked slick. I ordered the Curt hitch for my 2015 Toyota Tacoma and it arrived within a couple of days (wow, fast shipping). It was easy to install and made of high quality materials. This hitch seemed far superior to the ones I had looked at locally to be installed by companies around town and I saved more than I paid for the hitch from etrailer. I just installed the hitch this morning and rather than the 2hr. Novice installation time noted on the instruction sheet, I did the job single handed in about 45 minutes. Thank you. 186318

Heavy duty, nice fit. Would have been an easier install if I had a second person because of the weight of this hitch. But I put a scissors jack under it to raise it into position and hold it in place while I installed the bolts. Took about an hour and a half by myself with the use of the jack. Without that I think you would need 2 people. Good quality, nice item. 39224

Hitch arrived in only 3 days with regular shipping. I also ordered a wiring harness so the truck could supply lights to a trailer. My son and I put them both on his 2007 tacoma in about one and a half hours. Everything fit perfectly and worked great. The videos on the etrailer web site were very helpful and made the installation go much quicker. 27401

I installed it by my self, and I'm eighty years old. I won't go into how I raised it up, it would be duck soup for two people. It fits good, and you could pick up the truck with this thing. Don't take that bumper off, install the shims one bolt at a time, that way you won't have a jack stand in your way when you are installing the rear most shim. 116596

Hitch was delivered on time and installation was a breeze but the best part was the price. Delivered it was over $50 cheaper than either of the two quotes I received from local stores. Titus T took my order and wisely reminded me of the free shipping if I added to my base order...I did and it just made the deal sweeter. Thanks, Tom R. 30679

I installed the trailer hitch on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The hitch was flawless and fit perfectly. It mounts securely and will provide piece of mind every time I pull something heavy. I'm completely satisfied with it. I did smash my knuckles trying to remove bolts with 9 years of rust build up, but that's just part of it I suppose! 150920

Easy installation. Every hole in the Curt hitch lined up perfectly with existing Toyota weld nuts and holes. . A 17mm socket, a 19 mm socket and a ratchet is about a you need. Helps to have extra set of hands to remove bumper and lift hitch into position. I was able to do it by myself with the help of one jack stand. 122261

Quality looking product . My Curt trailer hitch was a perfect fit. Installation took longer than the 1 hour instructions said. But I didn't have a heated shop with a lift. I was laying on the concrete floor outside in 30 degree weather. Nice quality construction and I can't wait to hitch up the boat in the spring. 1669

Great fit! Installed it, along with a new wiring harness, in less than 90 minutes. The on line installation videos are fantastic. Set my I-pad on the tailgate, ran the video and hit pause between steps. Piece of cake. The people at Etrailer are the best! I will definitely speak well of them, whenever I can. 58192

This installation went very well. There was minor damage to the hitch during shipping, but I corrected this and it wasn't a factor. Given the weight of the hitch, and the rough treatment typical of most shippers, there should be additional retainers inside the box to prevent movement as much as possible. 183215

Great product that I can put my confidence in. This the second one I've purchased (for a second vehicle) and found the installation to be easy. I found that just removing the bumper was easier. The wiring was also easy to use. I'm very satisfied both with the company and the hitch and wiring. 35381

The Curt Hitch arrived 3 days after I ordered it. A well-built, quality hitch that fit my 2012 Tacoma perfectly.Fairly easy to install by myself with excellent instructions and on-line video. Wiring harness installed easily. A much better buy than the Toyota Factory hitch. Thanks etrailer! 37215

  • Recommended Hitch and Weight Distribution for 2007 Toyota Tacoma Towing 3500 lb Pop-Up Camper
  • I did some research on the Coleman Evolution, and it appears that a typical weight distribution system would work just fine with the layout of the tongue. If you have propane bottles on your pop-up, they might interfere with the chain hangers that fit around the top of the trailer frame. You could use a bolt-on hanger, part # RP58305 if this is the case. Due to the additional leverage that a weight distribution hitch places on the receiver, a bumper mounted receiver like # E-3S is NOT...

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2011 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab for Kayaks, Ladders, and Lumber
  • You can add a roof rack to your 2011 Toyota Tacoma, but if you have a naked roof (no side rails that run front to back) you will not be able to use a kayak carrier because the space between the bars will be too short. If you do have side rails that run front to back then I have a solution for you. You can install Thule Crossroads feet, # TH450 and load bars, # THLB58. Then you can use The Stacker, # TH830 to carry the kayaks. If you do not have the side rails you can add a roof rack...

  • Trailer Hitch Availability for a 2011 Toyota Tacoma
  • Yes, I checked with Curt and trailer hitch # 13323 is a fit for the 2011 Toyota Tacoma models. To wire your vehicle for towing, you would be able to use custom-fit Tow Ready wiring harness # 118496. To equip your Tacoma for towing a trailer, you would also need a ball mount, a hitch pin, and a hitch ball. The recommended ball mount for your vehicle would be # 2923, which would place the hitch ball at the most common trailer height. To determine whether this would be appropriate for...

Since this is where the hitch attaches to the vehicle, the fact that the frame is different would affect the fit of the hitch.
