Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

Just installed my new hitch. Went relatively smoothly. A few additional hints... it is best to scrape away the "foam-like insulation" or overspray around the outside of the trunk to ensure you can fit the hitch into place. Also be careful not to hit/bend any of the protruding pins (that hold the plastic undermount) with the horizontal bar of the hitch. You also may need to trim a bit of the plastic undermount on the side without the exhaust for a proper final fit. You also need a second set of hands to complete the job. And one final hint, you do not need to completely remove the plastic undermount....leave the pins/clips closest to the front of the van (sienna 2011) in place and let the panel hang down.

Comments
Been happy so far. Some rust forming inside the receiver area which worries me a bit after such a short time though.
John - 04/19/2019

Unfortunately, the metal on metal abrasion caused by the friction between the shank of the hitch accessory and the inside of the receiver tube will eventually wear away the powder coating, leaving the hitch susceptible to corrosion. We recommend doing a little preventative maintenance one a year to keep the rust in check. I'll link you to a help article with more information.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

I've had the EcoHitch on my vehicle now for about a year (and about 30,000 miles - I commute 200 miles to work each day). My goal was to continue to use my Thule Vertex Bike Rack. It does work with that rack, perfectly. It seems pretty robust (I've been able to step on it when I had to clear some heavy snow off the roof of my car) and after a year, I haven't had to make any adjustments. I think it blends into the car nicely. And, it did not impact my gas mileage (~40 mpg highway). I will say - I found out almost instantly that this will change the way you drive the vehicle (at least in Colorado) because it takes very little to bottom out. I've left some grooves in friends' pavement after backing out of driveways and I have hit coming in to parking lots, going over speed bumps, and if there are any drainage ditches that have a steeper angle. Add the bike rack - I've hit that pretty good too (thankfully, not with the bike). To fix this issue, I decided earlier this year to lift the back end of the car by having the towing springs installed to lift the clearance by about 2". They get installed in May, so I'll update this to see if that resolves the bottoming out on the hitch. I didn't originally rate this product because honestly I was so angry at how poor the installation went. The instructions were difficult to follow (complicated by how I then found corrected instructions online) and I was sent the wrong bolts (<-- if that had been my only problem, no biggie. My friend Ace Hardware is just down the street). Something I felt should take maybe a day if I was super careful ended up taking 2 because the instruction mixup (I put the hitch on twice. Second time was able to install my bumper again too. Ha). Despite my installation woes - I think this is a great product for the car. I really hope the towing springs solve my bottoming out (I'm not looking to be an SUV - just be able to pull into my parking lot at work with the bike rack on the vehicle ha).

Comments
So Ive had the hitch on with the towing springs installed for about a year now and what a difference! I havent hit the hitch or bike rack since installing the towing springs, and I took it up into the mountains several times last summer. The hitch has been solid and sturdy, works perfectly with my bike rack and I think it blends in with the vehicle pretty well. I recommend, but also recommend thinking about the towing springs if you decide to install the hitch on this vehicle.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

In general I do like the hitch and would give it 5 starts. But there are a few problems: a) It's not 100% compatible with the 2019 Golf R b) The instructions that I found for trimming the bottom part of the bumper are not correct either. The compatibility issue is related to the mounting bolts. The 2019 Golf R in the US comes with blind spot monitors. The sensors are mounted at the rear corners of the car and use the impact bar bolts to mount. On the driver side that's not a problem, since they just get "sandwiched" under the mounting bolts. But on the passenger side they use bolts with threads on both sides and get mounted to the skinnier end (see pictures). Yet, the mounting HW kit for the hitch does not come with those screws - which basically means you are screwed. Technically you are not supposed to use the factory screws and you can't use the screws that come with the hitch. Regarding the trimming instructions - the cutout has to be at least 4" wide and also at least half an inch deeper than the drawings that were posted here. Also, when you install it don't use a ramp like I did, use stands so that the wheels are hanging off the car - that'll give you more room when dealing with the screws in the wheel well. I used a car jack to lift the car up a bit so that I can get in there...

After a year Im still very happy with the hitch. Im using it at least every other weekend with my Küat Sherpa bike rack. And I have not had any problems with the hitch.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Fits perfectly, and was not too hard to install. I waited a little while to review this so I could test it out, make sure there was no long term issue. When installing, one of my bolts holding the tow bracket on broke loose of its weld, and required that I cut the bolt off, which was not too difficult, but be aware and be ready to do this as it is a possibility. Tows my new trailer very well. I found a 6" rise did the trick for me, though that may vary based on your trailer. The most I have towed is about 700lbs, though it feels capable of far exceeding that. I would be cautious of not exceeding the tongue weight though, as the car is a unibody design. The instructions are not the best, and you will need to widen one of the holes for the rectangular spacer to fit. There is a good [online] video out there that shows this very well

Comments
One year later, working great. Ive towed as much as 1400, and though I can feel it, the car pulls it no problem. Well worth the investment

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

The installation of the hitch on my '17 AllTrack was fairly straight forward with a couple of caveats. The Instructions did not address the parking sensors on the sides, or the harness plug behind the bumper cover. There was also considerably more trimming required than what was referenced in the instructions, both width, and depth. The instructions covered both their 1 1/4" and 2" receivers. Finally, there was no tool list in the instructions. Thankfully etrailer had a comprehensive video on how to do it that I was able to follow along with. Total time from start to finish, including jacking the rear of the car up and taking the wheels off, and polishing my exhaust tips, was just over two hours. The craftsmanship of the hitch is great and if the instructions were more clear I would have given it five stars.

This is great for my Subaru Impreza hatchback. I was worried because the car is so low, but the hitch doesn't stick down too far, it's great. I use it for my Thule Helium Platform 1 bike rack... The whole thing is just what I wanted. I even went over a big dip in the road and no scraping.

Comments
This has been a perfect experience. Id been worried the hitch might hit ground on bumps, but knock wood it hasnt yet. Its now easy to install my bike rack, which I also love.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

etrailer's 2016 Prius V and 2017 Prius V videos were great. Followed the vid step-by-step. The paper instructions from Torklift were next to useless for me; tried reading but couldn't follow. Definitely suggest having a second hand on standby while you are installing under the car. etrailer's customer service was great. Kept me informed the entire way, even though they were short staffed and took longer than useless to ship out order; understandable during these times. Sit flush, clean, and neatly tucked underneath bumper. Glad I got this over the cheaper lower hanging ones 1.25" options. Problems: No where, either from Torklift or etrailer, did it specify that I needed TWO 19mm sockets. So when it was time to tighten the bracket bolts, I had to make due w/ one 19mm socket and clamps. It was a giant PIA. Added close to an hour to install. One major problem I discovered is inside of the hitch receiver is not coated properly, making it susceptible to rust. I installed it on Sunday. Monday night had a rainstorm come through (no rubber hitch cover yet since it's coming in the mail). Tues morning I discover rust inside the receiver already. I haven't even used this hitch yet. If I had left it uncovered for months it'd be understandable, but after one night of rain? I can and will obviously spray inside receiver w/ some rust enamel protection, but for a new xxx+$ hitch, I would expect Torklift to properly coat their hitch inside and out. I tried cleaning off the best I could but there's still rust where water sat overnight; you can see in the picture.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Hitch is excellent quality, fit my 2010 Prius almost perfectly and installation was technically very easy. I'd recommend heeding the advice to mark where you're trimming the fairing before removal as it doesn't appear to be dead center once removed. Besides a few of the 10 year old brittle bumper clips breaking, installation was as easy as the two other hitches I've installed. It fits almost snug against the bottom of the bumper, my rack hasn't bottomed out on anything yet amazingly, ends up being fairly close to the rear axle.

Comments
Flawlessly. Ive left my rack installed the past year with zero issues. Totally worth the extra cost for the 2 rather than fooling around with adapters, completely solid.

Very pleased with this purchase. The vehicle design (2018 Nissan Leaf SL) makes hitch installation tricky, but this hitch comes with everything needed to make it as easy as possible. It includes all the required hardware and a fish to help get the bolts through the frame. There are helpful videos out there to learn how to install it. Looks great (and mostly hidden) when installed. You have to make a small cutout in an underbody panel but that's not at all visible unless you're looking under the car.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

I originally had the Curt class III hitch, but it hangs to low and the draw bar would scrape on some hills around my house. I bought this as a replacement because the ground clearance is almost 2 inches higher. The actual hitch fits tight to the body and seems well built. It didn't come with the installation hardware, but that was delivered about a week later. etrailer had to get hardware from eco hitch. The main issue with this product is rust. After three weeks of being installed, I had alot of surface rust. I reached out to eco hitch to find out why. They said there warranty doesn't cover rust and recommended steel wool and paint, but, I could send pictures for review. I never heard back. They have an option on their site for custom powder coating, but the the stock coating is terrible. This hitch is twice as much as the Curt and doesn't appear to be corrosion resistant at all. If you go with this hitch, prior to install, paint it. With no warranty to speak of, I now have to uninstall the hitch and paint the hitch, and reinstall. I have had 4 hitches from hidden hitch and Curt, but never seen anything rust the fast. Eco hitch should be embarrassed by the quality of the coating and lack of support.

Looks great, had some difficulty placing the underbody plastic panel on the driver side back on due to the length of the bolts (see attached picture 5899). I had to remover and re-insert them from outside inward so the length of the bolt went towards the spare tire (it does not hit it), Overall looks great and will see how it handles towing my small trailer.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Just finished installing this a few moment ago and I have to say that it really looks good on our 2014 Outback 3.6R. The low profile of the receiver barely extends beyond the line of the mufflers. I dont think it will be as much of a consideration when backing into a parking stall as other systems that I have seen. There were minor issues that I ran into with the install, so it took me about 3 hours to get this mounted at home with no extra help. I also decided to do the bumper removal method. I felt comfortable removing the trim, and it had the added bonus of giving me more room to work. If you dont have an extra set of hands to help align the hitch to the bolts, you can use a ratchet strap thrown around the hinges for the rear hatch. Hook into the loops where you normally place your trailer chains and take up the weight of the hitch. This will allow just enough support so you can have both hands to start aligning the bolts to the hitch. Lastly, I decided to torque everything down and suspended the muffler before I reattached the bumper bar and trim. The part that was the most difficult for me was getting the dual exhaust remounted onto the rubber bungs. I ended up having to grind off about 3/4-1 inch of the rearmost post on the muffler to get it back into the bung hole. I look forward to pulling a trailer and seeing how everything holds up down the road.

Comments
This hitch has done wonders for us in terms of being able to haul things around. We used it to tow a trailer across the country last year when the other half got a new job back home. The car and hitch combination made this all possible. We have also purchased a cargo tray to help move extra gear when we cant take up more room in the car for camping trips. If you are looking to get this, or any hitch system for an outback, I recommend also getting an adjustable ball mount, and some helper springs. It may stiffen up the ride, but youll reduce the risk of scraping the bottom of your car or whatever you may be towing.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

After watching a video of how to install it, and orienting myself with the underside of the vehicle (Nissan Leaf), the instillation went without "a hitch". There were a few times of returning to the video, but pretty straight forward. I can't remember the time it took, but I would say under two hours from start to finish.. including cutting the plastic shroud on the underside of the vehicle for the hitch to fit/stick out the back. It is VERY solid! I use the hitch strictly for a heavy 4 bike rack, and it supports it quite easily. I would highly recommend this product and etrailer.com! They had the best price by far for this hitch, and delivery was quick!

Great product. Well made. Fast shipping. Installation was fairly simple although I did have to purchase a tool or two to install. Probably could have even used some additional tools to make installation easier but was able to manage without-just took a bit longer. I installed without help but an extra set of hands would have made things easier. Go easy on the pegs holding the bumper facia-very brittle. Perfect for use with Saris bike rack. No ground clearance issues yet with the bike rack.

Review from a similar Hidden Hitch in Trailer Hitch

Installed this in about an hour and some change! I’m not at all very knowledgable about cars and tools but this one I was able to do and it was very satisfying. I followed the videos available. I bought some torque wrench, impact wrench, cutter, auto trim removal tools, several sockets (10, 14, 15 mm). Overall the additional cost was about $150 but it was worth it since I’ll be using these tools in the future. The only thing that I wasn’t prepared for was that the replacement nuts to hold the hitch in place. Surprised that it was a 15mm vs the 14mm that I removed from the original. Luckily I had a few different sizes of socket wrench. I do have a 2015 Subaru Outback 3.6R so I’m not sure if it’s just on this model. Overall, very happy. Installed a Kuat NV 2.0 base bike rack right away.

my only reason for purchasing a class III hitch to my previous was to accommodate electrical lift for my wife's mobility scooter. Additionally I had a class I hits installed by the car dealer but it proved to be unable to meet the demands of what I needed. This hitch has proved to be an outstanding purchase and has provided superior performance. As a side benefit the 2 inch receiver has been extremely beneficial in accommodating other applications. The performance, price and ease of installation ( with the video) is excellent.

This is an excellent hitch. It bolts to Prius with not too much difficulty and is mostly hidden behind the bumper. The main reason I like it so much is that it is a full size class III hitch which can be used with the majority of bike racks and other hitch accessories. I also use it to pull a small utility trailer. Who needs a gas guzzling pickup truck?

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Toyota Sienna for Ground Clearance
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Toyota Sienna is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 76112 because if you plan on towing, this hitch is rated for weight distribution and the similar hitches are not. When we test fit the Draw-Tite Hitch # 76112, Curt Hitch # C13343, etrailer.com Hitch # E98853 and EcoHitch # 306-X7255 on a 2019 Toyota Sienna we found that each of them have 13 inches of ground clearance, and with the exception of the EcoHitch, have a 525 lb tongue weight capacity...

  • Difference of Class III Trailer Hitches for 2018 Toyota Sienna
There are a number of Class III trailer hitches designed to fit the 2018 Toyota Sienna. In my opinion you can break them up into two groups that distinguish the biggest difference: those with a visible cross tube and those with a concealed cross tube. I prefer the crosstube to be hidden behind the rear bumper, like with the Draw-Tite # 76112, Curt # C13343, and EcoHitch # 306-X7255. This is shown in the picture of the gold Sienna. To me this is a very clean look and appears more like...

  • Recommended Best Trailer Hitch Receiver for Ground Clearance on 2018 Toyota Sienna
There is not a minimum clearance required by law for a trailer hitch, so you simply want to make sure you are able to travel without bottoming out your receiver. For instance, the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13105 has a dimension of 12 inches from the inside top of the receiver which means approximately 9 inches from the ground to the bottom edge due to the lower the side brackets. If you are concerned about that ground clearance restriction, then...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Toyota Sienna
Actually the Draw-Tite # 76112, Curt # C13343, etrailer # e98853, and EcoHitch # 306-X7255 all install so that only the receiver is showing. A lot of people like this look instead of having a thick piece of steel underneath their vehicle as well. You are correct in choosing a Class III trailer hitch with a 2" receiver over a Class II trailer hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver. The reason being that they are stronger and they are compatible with many more accessories. For your application I...

  • Will the Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs Raise the Ride Height of a Vehicle
The Air Lift AirLift 1000 Air Helper Springs for Coil Springs part # AL60732 which is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Toyota Sienna will not raise the ride height of your vehicle. It will however prevent the rear of the vehicle from sagging while attached to a trailer which will therefore give you additional ground clearance. If you have a 2" trailer hitch receiver on your Sienna then you can use the Ultra-Fab Steel Roller part # UF48-979020 to prevent the receiver tube from scraping on...

  • Best Hitch for 2018 Toyota Sienna
Vehicles like the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey that have a low stance can sometimes have ground clearance issues with a hitch installed. Tire size, passenger count and cargo load all affect your actual ground clearance but you can choose a hitch that will offer the most clearance to get you into your driveway. The best option is the EcoHitch model with concealed cross tube, part # 306-X7255. When we installed this on a 2017 Sienna the top of the receiver opening was 13-1/4-inches...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch, 4-Way, and 6-Way Wiring for 2018 Toyota Sienna
For your 2018 Toyota Sienna I do recommend installing a 4-Way harness and then going with a 4-Way to 6-Way adapter for when it's time to tow the pop-up camper. This will be the easiest and most reliable method for your vehicle. As you mentioned in your question your Sienna has a separate wiring system, which means the brake and turn signals are sent along separate wires. Because of this a powered converter is needed to not only safeguard the vehicle's wiring and provide enough power...
