Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your vehicle can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road. Technical Support

2013 Toyota Prius

Yeah, this hitch didn't even come close to fitting my 2013 Prius. I could get the bolts started on one side, just enough to hold the hitch up and give me a little wiggle room to get the bolts on the other side started. But as you can see in the pics, the holes don't come close to lining up. Wasted an entire day tiring to get this thing to fit.

That is a flexed hit my guy. You can torque it back!

Toyota Prius

Hitch is excellent quality, fit my 2010 Prius almost perfectly and installation was technically very easy. I'd recommend heeding the advice to mark where you're trimming the fairing before removal as it doesn't appear to be dead center once removed. Besides a few of the 10 year old brittle bumper clips breaking, installation was as easy as the two other hitches I've installed. It fits almost snug against the bottom of the bumper, my rack hasn't bottomed out on anything yet amazingly, ends up being fairly close to the rear axle.

Flawlessly. Ive left my rack installed the past year with zero issues. Totally worth the extra cost for the 2 rather than fooling around with adapters, completely solid.

eTrailer took 5 weeks to ship an IN STOCK item, due to "shipping delays" and wouldn't give me any partial credit.

The installed hitch works extremely well and this is one of the only available 2" hitches with 300# tongue weight. But installation takes at least 2-3 hours and involves several complicated steps. (I've installed two other hitches in my life, and neither of them required removing/modifying so many parts of the car.)

The biggest problem is that one of the "rectangular metal plates" that you feed into the frame had a sloppily-formed hole. That prevented the hidden bolt from popping through the hole! MAKE SURE THAT YOU TEST FIT THE BOLT/WASHER/METAL PLATE COMBINATION BEFORE YOU FEED IT INTO THE FRAME. I ended up spending an extra 2 hours (5 hours total) trying to get the bolt into the hole without pulling it off the wire. The eventual solution was to epoxy the metal plate into the proper position, then use a Dremel with a skinny grinding bit to carefully open up the hole. Then the bolt pulled right through.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you about the shipping delay that you experienced. I know that we are working to ship all orders in a timely fashion. Since this hitch is designed to be hidden the installation will be move involved. Your install experience was not ideal however I am you were able to find a work a around.

Hitch is well made. Instruction could be better. Black and white photos make it hard to determine areas that need trimming.Hitch is a tight fit, takes two people to install. Other than that it will work perfect for my MTB trips.

It did not fit my 2012 Toyota Prius as advertised. I had to return it for a full refund, which I got. Thanks anyway.

Sounds like you got a flexed hitch LC. This happens and can be rectified. Here is an article that can help you fix the issues.

I was pleased with the 2" EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver, for my 2013 Toyota Prius. The instructions that it came with for installation were a bit complicated, but the video on the website was very helpful. It took longer to install than I had hoped but that is because I am a perfectionist and spent more time customizing the trimming of the plastic shield that hides most of the hitch.

Toyota Prius

The hitch kit came with everything needed to install it. It was a bit tricky installing it by myself, another pair of hands would have helped, but I managed. Only used it a few times to haul our ebikes with no problems at all.

My only problem is I've sold my Prius along with the rack and etrailer doesn't have a 2" hitch for my Elantra Hybrid.

The hitch was fairly easy to install if you are somewhat capable at working on things. I highly recommend Having the two inch receiver so you can use common accessories on the back of your Prius. I have pulled a a tent trailer for a couple thousand miles with out an issue.

With the 3/8-in bolts, I had a problem with the star washers: I threaded the bolt leader onto the bolt, followed by the star washer and then the plate washer and fed this assembly into the frame rail. But when I tried to pull this through the hole, the star washer would not align with the bolt but blocked the bolt from finding the hole in the plate washer. I ended up using a different washer, put it on the bolt before threading the bolt leader onto the bolt.
PARTS: You should make it easy to find additional bolts, plate washers, etc.
The instructions are pretty clear overall but the part describing where to trim the plastic cover are not helpful.
It would be great if you made available a good installation video for each model of hitch that you sell.

The final installation is incredibly clean and professional. The only real modification to the car is cutting the plastic splash guard after removing it. Like others mentioned, I would recommend installing the hitch and cutting the splash guard to fit after completing the installation.

The only negative I would say was that the photos for where to cut the splash guard in the instructions weren't very clear, so I wound up doing a few test fits to get it to fit with the minimum amount cut. Also, the instructions said "passenger side" when referring to the driver side of the vehicle. I would say to just pay attention to if it's referring to the side with the exhaust or not. Aside from those minor things, the instructions were great, all hardware was provided and there was very little "searching for tools".

I would recommend a second set of hands to actually place the hitch into the vehicle, because it requires both lifting it and pulling the bumper out slightly to get it to fit. Everything else I was able to complete by myself.

2013 Toyota Prius

After a lot of research for 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2013 Prius, I came across this one and I was not sure how it was going to work because a lot of companies don't make 2 inch for Prius.
I purchased this one and it's perfect. Easy install and I'll recommend it for anybody who is looking for Prius Trailer Hitch Receiver. I use it for bikes and I have Thule T2 2-bike rack.

Great hitch for my Gen3 Prius! Installation is a little tricky compared to others I've done due to the "fishing line" nuts, but watch the vid and follow directions carefully and you should be fine. The hitch looks great and doesn't lower the car much as only the hitch itself sticks out below the bumper.

2012 Toyota Prius

Missing parts from the parts list upon delivery. The process to get it corrected is currently a bit cumbersome (had to supply pics and emails). Will see how quickly it gets resolved and update.

I am sorry to hear that your hitch was missing items upon delivery. I see that our customer service department is in the process of getting your missing items sent out to you.

I purchased this for the purpose of trailering 3 bikes. It definitely serves it's purpose although it indicates I can't use it on my RV which is really what I wanted it to do. Has a few areas that have rusted and adjusting it for individual bikes can be cumbersome but overall I expect to use it for a long time. I haven't found any other racks that could serve my purpose.

After a year of good use…. This is one of the highest quality trailer hitches I’ve ever used. I’m so grateful I purchased this one.

2014 Toyota Prius

Rock solid and working great after one year. Our mechanic took a look at it and said it wouldn't fit our 2014 Prius so I installed it myself. A bit of a pain without a lift but totally do-able. And our mechanic was super-wrong. It fit perfectly and is a dependable hitch - really beefy!

2015 Toyota Prius

I’m not one to leave reviews but I’m making an exception. Etrailer kept me informed on my backorder then shipped quickly once in stock. Packaging and shipping service (ups) were fantastic. The box arrived in great shape. I looked up an installer near me on Etrailer’s site. Made an appt and had the install completed. This 2” hitch is solid and well hidden on my 2015 Prius. I got it for a Kuat bike rack and I’m happy with everything. Thanks Etrailer.

2007 Toyota Prius

Fits well, works fine. Much more convenient that the 1 1/4” receivers available for the Prius. Install was straightforward.

2010 Toyota Prius

Needed a 2" hitch from my prius to work with my existing Thule bike rack. As for customer service, etrailer was awesome at responding to my inquiries before I placed the order, as well as getting the order filled/shipped quickly.

As for the product itself, this hitch is NOT an easy piece of equipment to install. The online video was helpful, but my 2010 prius didn't match the 2010 prius they used, so I had to make some adjustments as I went. Either way, I'm glad they had their install videos because the actual install the manufacturer ships with the product looks like the production work of a 3rd grader using microsoft word (it was terrible). Also the manufacturer left 4 1/2" washers out of my package, so I had to take a separate trip to the hardware store for those.

If you're considering this product, prepare for a headache of an install. I would strongly advise having a second person there to help you out, especially when lining the hitch up with the holes under the car. Also, reinstall both tow hooks when re-assembling. Not sure why their video doesn't tell you this, but you cut out a piece of the undercarriage cover to expose the driver side hook, so why wouldn't you reinstall it?

Long story short, this install took me over 4 hours to do solo. Without a lift a second person, you will be extremely frustrated. Now that it's on and secure, it looks great, but just know what you're getting yourself into.

The fact that this hitch is very much concealed behind the rear vehicle bumper is what adds the difficulty to the installation. There are other hitches available that are much easier to install that require much less disassembly of the vehicle, but the trade-off is that those hitches are more visible.

Really enjoy this. Other than where the receiver is the rest is out of site which helps to protect it from scrapping

Very happy with this hitch, so far. Perfect fit on my 2015 Prius. I won't say it was easy to put on,but it was straight forward and the instructions are adequate. Two things that lead to the 4, instead of a 5. Instructions were maybe for the UK. Kept saying the drivers side is on the muffler side of the car, when my muffler is on the passenger side. More annoying, two of the lock nuts were missing from yhe package upon opening and my wife was kind enough to make a special trip to the hardware store to get replacements, while I started the installation.

Well this hitch was not a simple add on. If your attaching the hitch/receiver by yourself like I did, it will take you a few hours. It did not fit simply or easily. I did have to remove exhaust secure bolts to get the receiver to attach to my car frame correctly. I also had to cut the inside of the bumper plastic so the bumper would fit correctly to hide the receiver as it was described. But the hitch/receiver is on the car. Exhaust and rear bumper are secured correctly just like they before. The hitch/receiver looks like it was a factory add on when I bought the car new. The electrical connections were easy to add on and the whole unit is attached to the car frame which makes it's use correct and safe. There is nothing hanging low under the unit and all you see is the square receiver. I am very happy with this selection. No clearance loss and very professional looking.

2014 Toyota Prius

This heavy duty trailer hitch fit great on my daughter's 2014 Prius. Get a friend to help you install it. and pay them for their help too! She carries 2 heavy ebikes on the back of her Prius with a heavy duty bike carrier connected to this hitch with no problems. You really need this 2" hitch to carry all that weight. Don't cheap out on a smaller hitch for a heavy load. You will regret that decision. Good luck and Happy Hitching!

This review is strictly for the install and not the use of the product.

The product itself looks to be in exceptional shape and is crafted well. The instructions were a little hard at first to determine what was going on but were helpful as the install came along. I did have to make a few extra plastic guarding cuts to accommodate the main bar flange on the hitch near the bottom of the bumper that wasn’t otherwise noted, but that wasn’t a huge deal. The flange was blocking all the plastic pieces from coming together.

I’d recommend buying tool for removing the factory plastic fasteners for the plastic guarding and an oscillating tool to cut the plastic over using a utility knife or hack saw. I used a jack stand to hold up the exhaust. I wasn’t able to remove my muffler from the rubber shock piece and metal flange so I just unbolted it from the frame and rotated it out of the way. It was significantly more difficult to do it this way as I didn’t have a straight shot to the factory frame bolts but I made do with knuckle sockets and a long armed ratchet.

Using a 2x4 to wedge the hitch up into place allowed for easier install, but the muffler side was still cumbersome due to the metal flange still attached.

For not having a hoist, ramps worked fine for a one person job. A hoist would make it easier.

2014 Toyota Prius

Five stars for quality. One star for fit. Holes don't quite line up on 2014 Prius. Had to use one original bolt (instead of the new hardware) because the original was tapered at the end enough that I could get it in. I am 80% sure it threaded correctly. Besides that, it's an excellent hitch receiver. Very sturdy feeling.

The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7178 will fit the 2013 Toyota Prius. It will also fit the plug in hybrid. This receiver has a 2" sleeve which will allow you to use a wider range of ball mounts and hitch mounted accessories. I recommend having the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118505 installed with the receiver. This will allow you to use Auxiliary Lights # C53201 with any hitch mounted accessory that impairs the view of your tail lights.
