Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

I got the hitch needed for the swagman bike rack I ordered. It fits and has held up fine. There is some wiggle and sway - it's not as tight as I expected, but I don't know how tight it could be to be able to insert the rack. No problems driving on highways and local roads. Just unnerving seeing the movement in my rearview mirror.

Easy to install on our Prius. Directions were straightforward. Took about 20 minutes.

So, let's start with the good. Etrailer packed the item well. It wasn't just thrown in a box like the last hitch I ordered. Now the bad. This hitch is very poor quality. The hitch pin is not straight or square, so anything I put in it is going to be off to one side. Also, the hitch pin plate and chain clip are also welded crooked. Lastly, they painted over the welding tailings and whatever else was on this rack when coated. All they had to do was simply wipe it off before painting. It looks like it has boils all over. In the end, I think whoever assembled this rack was either intoxicated, or just didn't care. Needless to say, I will never buy a drawtite product again due to low quality. I wish return shipping didn't cost so much, because I would love to return this piece of... junk! See my pics of the issues. I hope this helps others in their decision to not by this rack, and be careful buying a rack online.

I was happy to find an easy-to-install hitch for my 05 Prius. Appreciated the free shipping and it arrived just a few days after I ordered it. The shipping box was pretty beat up and torn at corners. The hitch itself was unmarred and all parts were there. The printed install instructions were lacking details, but good demonstrations are available online from etrailer and others.

Very easy and quick to install. For my Toyota Prius, there are four bolts to remove under the car. Then use the bolts that come with the hitch to attach the hitch. It is helpful when you're doing this alone to have some way to prop up the hitch, like a jack or something.

I bought the draw tite hitch and Pro series Q slot platform 2 bike rack to be able to transport our 2 bikes with our Prius. The products were delivered in just a few days. The hitch was easily installed and the rack was very easy to assemble and use. I am very satisfied with my experience with etrailer.com. I highly recommend them.

This is the second hitch I have purchased etrailer.com and installed myself. In each case the hitch arrived quickly and was easy to install. In both cases, I also used the video installation instructions provided on etrailer.com's website. Finally, both hitches were the best priced I could find on the Internet. When and if I need another hitch, I will visit etrailer.com again.

installed perfect on my 2009 prius, great product for those who buy this there is a stop tab in the hitch so not just any hitch will work it has to be the same rating or the lock pin falls short of matching my wife's yaris hitch works perfect thanks etrailer!

Comments
The obstruction you speak of is a stop or a punch thats intentionally placed in the receiver tube that prevents higher-rated Class ll accessories from being used. Draw-Tite does this with their Class I hitches as a safety measure to prevent the hitch from being accidentally overloaded. The stop or punch is designed to prevent a Class II rated accessory from being slid into the receiver far enough for the hitch pin holes to line up.

After one year, this hitch is holding up as expected (it's actually my second purchase because I was rear ended and the hitch, rack and my bicycle were crushed!). That being said, I bought my first hitch from etrailer.com and bought the second one there as well. Great, competitive pricing. Would recommend to anyone in the market for this product.

Toyota Prius

This arrived just a few days after ordering, earlier than I expected. And, I had forgotten to add a wiring harness when I ordered, but a phone call got one in, so they both shipped free. Very pleasant experience dealing with trailer, again. The hitch is a cinch to install. The most difficult part is jacking and blocking the Prius so you can get under the rear. Then a cover needs to be removed, easy enough. Take out 4 bolts, put in 4 bolts, and the hitch is installed. The cover could remain off. If returned, it needs needs a hole enlarged where the hitch passes through. The best way to do this would be to fit it before installing the hitch, and put hitch through hole, so you don't need to extend the hole to the rim of the cover, which is not as well supported if the rim is cut. But who has such foresight? I cut it to the rim, and everything seems OK. The product could be improved by describing this, and providing a printed template to show just what needed trimming for a perfect fit. It felt as if they did not expect to put the cover back on. It probably exists either for sound deadening or aerodynamics, both of which are worth the trouble of replacing it (though the hitch is going to mess up under car aero some, anyway).

I just purchased an e-road bike, which is much heavier than a regular road bike. I was concerned my strap carrier hanging off the back of my Prius might break at some point, so I purchased this hitch to attack a trailer-mounted carrier to. etrailer.com was a great experience -- great website, very useful and honest information about the choices for my car that allowed me to make a good decision, and the product was shipped very promptly. They were a great company to work with!

2007 Ford Edge

Overall, I'm Very Happy with this purchase! The hitch fit-exactly, & (according to my installer) bolted-on in no-time, just followed the well-written, accurate directions. However, I DID have a small problem, the hitch was too close to my tailpipe (on '07 Toyota Prius) & after driving a few miles, I had excessive noise & vibration, from the tailpipe hitting against the metal receiver :( I had to take it back to the auto shop where I had it installed, & they had to grind-off some of the edge of my tailpipe, in order to fix this problem. I had purchased a similar model (from etrailer.com) for my '98 Toyota Avalon, & it fit perfectly! :) - with no modification needed. Otherwise, I was/am extremely satisfied with my purchase & experience! . . Great Customer Support from etrailer, & exceptionally fast & dependable delivery & processing . . thanks!! Will definitely order from you again, & recommend to others!!

Great hitch so far. etrailer is way better for buying than that other online site. It's worth the look at etrailer before you buy anywhere else. The customer service is excellent and the instructions for this hitch was perfect for our Prius. I'm alway impressed by the amount of good instructions and tips etrailer gives. We usually buy CURT but this is a good hitch so far. Installation was a breeze compared to getting the plastic cover off the Prius. We bought 3 trailers hitches from etrailer and was never disappointed.

Purchased this Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch 24808 for our 2005 Toyota Prius, to use with platform style Saris Freedom SuperClamp 2 bike rack. My husband installed this in about 30 minutes, with no problems. We found that watching both the videos at etrailer.com for installation on the 2005 and 2008 Prius models (same hitch model #) were helpful prior to installation. The information on etrailer.com was great for helping me choose the right hitch for our 2005 Prius

  • Hitch and E-Bike Rack Solution for 2008 Toyota Prius
For your 2008 Toyota Prius the Draw Tite Hitch part # 24808 is a confirmed fit and can be used to carry an e-bike rack but since hitch adapters cut the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent when they are used I can't recommend you go that route on an already lower capacity hitch and vehicle. Your best option is an e-bike rack that is Class I hitch compatible. For a bike rack the Thule EasyFold XT part # TH903202 would be a great solution that will fit this hitch directly as it is Class...

The insallation is more detailed and time consuming but in the end I prefer this style. From the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver tube of the Curt # C11468 is 1-7/8 inches and the same measurement on Draw-Tite # 24808 is 2-1/8 inches. They're both a Class I hitch receivers so you'll need to use accessories specifically designed for Class I.
