Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Toyota Prius - Curt

Today on our 2015 Toyota Prius we're going to be taking a look at and showing you hot to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class I, part number C11276. Here's what it looks like once it's installed. You can see it's got a nice round tubular design, it's going to tuck up nicely against the bottom side of our Prius. We have a nice, large flat style safety chain loops. We've got an inch and a quarter by inch and a quarter receiver, class one. It's going to be a complete bolt on design, utilizing factory weld nuts.

It's going to be quick and easy. The hitch is powder coated, that's going to help protect it against rust and corrosion and keep it looking nice for years to come. This hitch is designed for 200 pounds of tongue weight, which is our downward force, and 2,000 pounds of gross trailer weight, which is the amount of the loaded trailer that you can tow. You want to check with your owner's manual to make sure that your vehicle is able to tow that amount of weight and always use whatever is the less of the amounts. There is one note with this hitch, if you're going to be carrying a non-trailered load such as a cargo carrier or a bike rack they do recommend the use of a stabilization strap. Now we're going to go ahead and give you some measurements, it's going to help you in selecting some accessories. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the to the outer most part of the bumper it's about an inch and three-quarters.

From the ground to the top of the inside of the receiver tube it's going to be about 12 inches. We're going to begin our install by finding our nine points. On the driver side here we're going to have this factory tow hook, it's going to have two bolts up in there. We're going to remove that tow hook and the bolt, give those back to our customer. Our hitch is going to bolt up in place of that.

Over here on the passenger side we're going to have these two bolts right here that are part of our exhaust hanger. We're going to take those down and we're going to sandwich our hitch in between the body and the exhaust hanger. We're going to start by removing our exhaust clamp in the back here. We're going to go ahead and pop it off and that's going to give us enough room we don't have to pull any more clamps down. We'll take down these two bolts here, they're going to be 17 millimeter. We're going to return the bolts to the customer but we're going to reuse the hanger.

We're going to be mounting it with these new 12 millimeter bolts and a conical tooth washer for each one. You want to make sure you put the teeth side facing the hitch. We're going to take our hitch, we're going to feed it into the hole there. Then we're going to place it up over the top of the exhaust on this side. Then we can go to the drivers side and we'll do the same thing with the other two bolts. We want to make sure we have it centered up on our vehicle then we can go ahead and run up the bolt. We're just going to run them up snug. Then we can go ahead and torque them down to the specifications listed in our instructions. We're going to be using a 19 millimeter socket. Our last step is going to be to reinstall our exhaust hanger. To make it slide out a little easier, we're going to go ahead and put some spray lubricant in there. That's going to help the rubber slide back onto the tab here a little easier. You just want to check it and make sure it's not going to make any contact with your hitch. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class I, part number C11276 on our 2015 Toyota Prius.

I could not have received a better product or customer support! Not only did Mark suggest a better product than the one I had selected from the (excellent) on-line product listings, but my request to expedite shipping resulted in the trailer hitch arriving a day earlier than promised. The installation instructions were very detailed (included color photos, parts list, torque wrench values, etc.) and the on-line movie was equally excellent. It took me abit longer than I expected (~ 1 hour) to install, but this was my fault for not having all of the right tools laid out and available. The final installed hitch (from Curt) fits like a glove and really looks like OEM. Frankly, the newer design (for my 2014 vehicle) appears to be even stronger ("beefier:) than the hitch (another Curt) which I bought for my same model but earlier 2006 vehicle. Congratulations eTrailer, I will definitely be back for my future trailer hitch requirements. 208720

Since youve had two of these hitches, did you experience much rust or corrosion on the Curt you installed on the 2006 vehicle?

We use the hitch in combination with our bike rack at least twice each month. It truly is an asset towards making our bike riding experiences enjoyable and not an anxiety!

Trailer hitch for 2017 Prius V. Very good price which includes shipping. Well boxed. All required bolts included. Installation was not difficult but I had to figure out how to get the original bolts out that held the muffler support. The tail pipe interfered with a straight extension on the ratchet so I used a universal joint to get around it. As you'll be working on your back for this project I would suggest flattening out some large boxes and work from the comfort of cardboard. You'll slide around much easier , too. The hitch itself is not heavy but near impossible to hold up in place under the car and start the bolts. I used a floor jack to hold the hitch in close proximity and worked from there. I also used a small floor jack to support the muffler when I detached its bracket. That may not be necessary, I didn't want the muffler to droop to far and bend its pipe. Of special note: the bolts you take off the Prius have a 17mm head, the bolts that you put on have a 19mm head. Same diameter thread on both. Actual time to install is probably 60 minutes if you include the taking apart, looking for tools, the drop light, the floor jack and of course, putting the hitch on. If you don't have a floor jack, a friend will suffice to hold the hitch up. Finding a willing friend, however, could add days to the installation so you might want to start there when you order the hitch. The finished product looks good. I chose the Curt hitch because it is made of tubular steel, which to me looks a little cleaner than the square tubing. The hitch fits in from the rear bumper and up under the car so that it is not eye catching. 443710

I installed it in 15 minutes with good video and instructions that are provided. Mounting tabs lined up perfectly to OEM holes using their upgraded bolts and washers. Received it in 3 days after they sent me shipping confirmation and tracking number. They should tape foam on the mounting tabs to prevent damage and puncturing through the box. I like how it tucks up and hardly noticeable. 147159

Sundeep I did it at work in the parking lot, I use the box to set the hitch on then pushed it under the rear and held it up with one arm while the other was threading in their supplied bolts.

I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did not use a jack or a lift, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Toyota Prius. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you. 229876

Great product at a reasonable price. Great service, quick delivery. Installation was more difficult than I was led to believe. The hitch is heavy and required two people. It is difficult to hold in position while trying to start the bolts. The instructions estimated the installation time of 15 minutes. It took me 3 hours. 80180

First, let's make a comment on etrailer's service. I placed my order at 4:40 am. The item was shipped at 7:30 am. UPS attempted delivery the next day mid-morning. What would expedited service look like?!! The Curt hitch is excellent quality. It took a little longer to install than anticipated, but once in it is great looking and very sturdy. The knuckle of the hitch sticks out about an inch to two inches beyond the bumper of my 2010 Toyota Prius. A couple of pictures are attached. 228581

It took over 2 hours for install for 2 reasons. First, the tools would not fit around the exhaust system and in the access slot. 3/4 drive equipment was too bulky. Second reason, an Important issue, the heat shield on my 2011 prius extends further aft than the video and to fit the rightside bracket correctly, the bracket must be sandwiched between the shield and the frame. It took alot of time bending the shield to get the bracket installed. The video is wrong, they just clamp on top of the shield and squeeze it against the frame. You don't want heat to transfer to the vehicle because the 12-volt battery is located in that area. 47997

I ordered the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver for my 2013 Toyota Prius. Delivery was quick. The installation was simple and took 35 minutes to complete. Having the right tools helped. Thanks to all in earlier posts to point this out. A 17mm socket was needed to remove existing bolts. A 19mm socket was needed to install new bolts that came with the hitch. Flex head ratcheting wrench in each of these sizes helped a great deal with one bolt near the exhaust that would have been more difficult to get to. Also, the hitch is rather heavy and I could have used a helper hold it up while I worked. Instead, a one gallon paint can fit nicely under the hitch to hold it up while I installed the first bolt. It appears to be a sturdy product. Time will tell. 433838

I ordered the trailer hitch for my 2013 Toyota Prius. As soon as I received it, I decided to install it. I needed a hitch to hook my 3x4 feet aluminum trailer for my mountain bikes. I was disappointed right away because the bolts from the hitch did not match with those of the car. So I contacted customer service for help. Ricky advise me to flex the ends of the trailer hitch because they could have been bent during shipment. I followed his advice and I installed it in 30 minutes. I am very satisfied with the product and I am very impressed with the customer service provided by e-trailer. I did not waste my money on this product. My wife is very excited since now we can use the trailer to transport our bikes. Thank you Raul Aparicio 139871

For a 2010 Prius Very well crafted. It is a bit heavier than the other Hitch Receivers on the site, but looks way better. Everything was packaged nicely and came as promised. Install wasn't bad either. I'm slender and fit underneath the car without car ramps and jacks. Just cut out a side of cardboard from the provided box and slide under. At around 45 lb. it's a bit tricky to hold up on your own. So a few house items to prop it up fixed that. 30min install time. MAKE SURE you have 17mm & 19mm DEEP Sockets and 6" extender. 176047

The Curt hitch is an excellent product. The delivery was very fast, the packaging was minimal, yet very effective, and the hitch was light enough to manage by one person. Installation was done on my 2011 Prius with gracious help from my wife. The car was directly on the ground. Aside from getting the 19mm bolt on the muffler side correctly torqued, the install was fairly easy. The bolt toward the front of the vehicle on the muffler side is not an easy one to reach for enough purchase in order to effectively reach with deep 19mm socket. Either a prop or second set of hands was necessary for me to complete the setup. The purpose for the hitch is to connect the Kuat Beta 2.0 bike rack. 277261

This is the second time I've install one of etrailers hitch receivers. Both times the product fit exactly to the car with no issues. (The car is a Prius and the hitch is used for a bike rack - not towing) The install time was about 40 minutes with half of that time spent on finding my tools. Product is heavy but I found that once I was able to secure one bolt on the left side I could secure the first bolt on the right side by the exhaust. There is a heat shield by the exhaust on the Prius and you need to wedge the corner up so the hitch will slide under about 1/4 inch. I'll continue to use etrailer in the future. 391475

Recieved our new Curt hitch two days after placing the order. I was able to mount the hitch on our 2012 Prius III without jacking it up, or putting it on a set of ramps with no problem. I had it installed in about 20 minutes. The quality of this Curt hitch is top notch. For those that wonder if mounting a hitch on their prius will degrade mpg, even with nothing attached to it, we just got done with a 350 mile highway trip, and still got 51 mpg. I plan on using it to haul our bikes, on our Swagman XTC 2, also purchased from Etrailer. Great product! VERY happy with this purchase! Thanks E-trailer! 39460

I have yet to put this on my vehicle due to the current cold in the upper Mid-west. That being said, the unit looks like it will do exactly what I want it to do AND I must say I have had exceptional help and service from etrailer.com. My brother suggested the site. With the installation videos, expert advise with fast response and speedy delivery, what more could you ask for. I have said to several friends, this site is THE BEST site of its type without exception! I could not ask for more. George J and Michael H were a big help for me in making this purchase. Thanks. 175261

I installed the Curt C11276 trailer hitch receiver on my 2015 Toyota Prius, after reviewing the instructions and watching Curt's YouTube video for a similar installation (2010 Toyota Prius). The instructions were helpful; so was the video. The main snag was that the bolt holes in the hitch flanges did not quite line up with the holes in the car's frame. I was obliged to attach a nylon rope to one side of the hitch and apply about 100 lb of pull on the rope to force the holes to line up. Time for installation, including dealing with that snag, was about 1.5 hours. 225342

- C11276

Went on my 2014 Prius with no problems. Just needed to bend the heat shield back slightly to avoid trapping it under the hitch attachment passenger side. You do need a torque wrench and AV least 6" socket extension. Watch you don't lose the socket inside the plastic under shielding on the drivers side - use a magnet to coax it back if you do! 283501

- C11276

by:

The trailer hitch receiver appears very well-constructed and fits my car nicely. The bolt holes lined up perfectly! It also looks good under the rear bumper. Installation wasn't too hard - I did it by myself in the driveway without even jacking up the car. The only challenge was caused by a plastic panel under my car kind of being in the way on one side - not really a big deal, and this has nothing to do with the hitch itself. I haven't yet used the hitch but so far I'm very happy with the purchase. 268348

The hitch worked out wonderfully. Fit very well and easy to install. Your estimate of 30 minutes is about right. I believe it took me only about 20 to 25 minutes to install. Now my wife can take her bike anywhere she would like. Delivery was very prompt. Thank you again for supplying me this product! 147864

Service - 5 Stars Product - 5 Stars Instructions - "Garbage" 2015 Prius (regular) 1. You not only do not need a deep socket, it makes the job much worse as the bolt sinks into the socket. 2. You CANNOT install the drivers side without cutting part of the plastic under carriage cover. The cutout for the towing bracket is too narrow and not long enough to fir the hitch mount. 3. The original Toyota bolts are slightly tapered at the end to make initial threading about a million times easier. 293231

- C11276

by:

This is the second hitch that I have bought from these people. They fit perfectly. It only took me half an hour to put this last one on. I do one extra thing though. I use Locktight on the bolts, just for added safety. Their hitches r very good quality & I am very happy with the fast shipping. 271841

Purchased this hitch for our 2013 Prius V. Four bolt install is fairly simple but I found separating the muffler/exhaust from the rubber hanger easier than trying to work with it connected. A little dish soap and it was off in seconds and after the hitch and bracket were secure a little soap on the metal hanger and it pushed through without a problem. Once on this hitch is pretty much invisible. We'll be using it with the Swagman two bike rack on an extended road trip. 213448

- C11276

by:

The hitch fit perfectly and looks great. Installation did require a bit more time than predicted, but most of that additional time involved finding the right tools and positioning the hitch ( it was a one man operation and I used jack stands to hold the hitch in place ). 63802

Great hitch for my 2012 Toyota Prius. My husband installed it - it wasn't super easy because he had to use some makeshift tools to adapt for a socket extender that he lost somewhere, but I think it was easy for someone who is not a mechanic to install. There's a couple of good videos on YouTube about installation that were helpful for the Prius. I love the etrailer website! Their videos are tremendous with so many vehicles shown so clearly! Great job! 435990

Purchased my Curt hitch for my 2015 Prius and I am very satisfied. The etrailer website gave me all the photo angles and answered my questions before purchasing. Installation was quick and easy though I did have the purchase a torque wrench to get the job done. The rack is solid and looks good, and with the accessory strap my mountain bike is secure on my Yakima Holdup rack. Definitely glad I made this purchase from etrailer! 455019

Came with the right hanger bent and won't align to the bolt holes. Luckily, I have a very durable pry bar and was able to mcgyver it until it almost straightened out. Took me 25 minutes because I'm just by myself going back and forth fitting it to the car. Package looked okay though with no discernible tears, so it looks like more careful quality control is needed before shipping out. It's useable now, thanks! 286975

I am not a mechanic, but this product was easy to install. It took me about 15 minutes to install it at my drive way without lift up my car. I used a little stool and some books to jack and hold the hitch to be in the right position then bolted it. The shipping was fast. The video for this installation was really, really helps (thanks etrailer.com). The hitch was perfect fit to my 2014 Prius Plug ins. 281945

Great product on the Prius. It's clean looking at it's minimally visible. Sticks out minimally. Only wish it was slightly closer to bumper so it's taller to minimize scrapes. Overll it's great though. 270703

Hitch arrived on time, in great shape. Was relatively simple to install, with all parts provided (took me about 4x the "novice" time, but I'm not used to working on cars and didn't have it lifted). Instructions were specific to my car model, and weren't bad though they could have been more clear. Used this hitch to drive a Uhaul trailer from CA to Chicago using my Prius - it worked wonderfully! 432140

I installed the hitch so I could put on my bike rack. I don't like using the racks that lay on the painted surface and/or the rear glass. I have always used the hitch racks. Your directions were right on and it only took between 20 to 25 minutes. Very simple and I am not a mechanic. However. I do my own work whenever possible. Very happy so far and I can't wait to load on the rake and haul. 218211

- C11276

by:

Installation was easy! In my case, only one specialized tool was needed; an 12 year old holding a flashlight. Installation on a 2013 Prius Plug-In was pretty straightforward. A little tricky getting the bolts installed that were directly above the muffler/tail pipe. Fortunately the mounting bracket allows the muffler/tailpipe to be pushed far enough out of the way to complete installation. 149032

- C11276

by:

A very easy installation on my wife's Prius V. She will use the hitch to carry her bike rack not for towing as that is not a recommended activity for her new car. The installation video and the enclosed instructions were spot on. This is my second Curt trailer hitch install and both units fit as advertised, no fussing with alignment bars. Sorry no pictures, I forgot my camera. 287272

- C11276

by:

The receiver arrived when they said it would. It was well packaged so there were no scratches, etc. The installation was as simple as the video instructions said it would be. I didn't have to remove the grommet from the exhaust pipe. Just removed the existing bolts to the exhaust bracket, slid the receiver bracket under it, then installed and tightened the new bolts. 189483

- C11276

by:

Product arrived on time with no damage to shipping box. Hitch has several scratches when unpackaged - kind of disappointing. Even though I am a mechanic the installation was not that easy. The holes are not spaced wide enough to match the frame so I had to elongate them to allow the bolts to fit. It took much longer than expected to install this hitch on my 2015 Prius. 425423

Comments

Gene,Thank you for your review. This Curt hitch is custom designed to fit the Prius vehicle frame. We do not recommend elongated holes in the frame or the hitch. The hitch may have came flexed in shipping which is an easy fix. I have attached a link below about flexed hitches.

I recently purchased an Electra Townie. My old Saris Bones trunk rack worked great for my previous bike but it Just did not work very well for the TownieI. I decided to upgrade to a hitch platform rack and this hitch did the trick. I had a local mechanic install it in my 2014 Prius and I am very happy with the sleek look and most important the ease of loading my bike. 432166

I installathe Hitch Receiver two day ago on my 2014 Prius. It is solidly welded steel that fastens to the frame. I would say the installation was straightforward and the instructions very good. However it would be nice to be able to "tighten" the rack in the receiver and eliminate the slop that presently exists like I could with my rack on the old Prius.. 131758

Fantastic hitch for my Prius I needed to pull a small trailer with 2 electric wheelchairs on it. It works great. I can go where I want and take my chair with me and at times I take my Mom's chair. It works great. I love my Prius and this hitch made it possible for me to keep driving my Prius and still take my Jazzy wheelchair with me. Thank you etrailer. 3117

I havent taken the item out of the box to install on a 2014 Prius V since the car is in the shop for a few days. Will get it installed once I get the car back and write a review and maybe send some photos. I will be using it to put my bicycle hitch on for 2 bikes. I like the way it is designed and the is one of the reasons I purchased it. 144766

This hitch is supposed to fit the Prius Plug-in model also but it did not. I had to elongate all four mounting holes about a 1/16" to get it lined up. It may be fine on the regular model but if you have a Plug-In be ready to modify. Once installed the fit and finish are nice and it works exactly as it should for my Thule bike rack. 222993

The product is excellent, the instructions are ok but the packaging was bad. One of the ends of the hitch had punctured the side of the box and was sticking out. The paint had rubbed off completely on a spot about the size of a dime. Not worth sending back but this is the second item I have bought where packaging was a problem. 391221

The YouTube Video and the fact the trailer hitch was made in the USA sold me on this item. I ordered over a weekend and received the package on Wednesday! Prompt delivery, great attention to detail and follow up! This hitch will be installed on my 2016 Prius V. A 2000 pound capacity is more than enough for landscaping needs. 303778

Only Issue I had was the packaging of the hitch in the shipping box. Virtually no packing materials to prevent the hitch from busting through the shipping box....which is was upon arrival. Suggestion, wrap some high stretch bubble wrap around the ends of the hitch to help keep the hitch in the box and prevent damage to the hitch. 207158

The hitch has a nice appearance and fits through the hole in the bumper. The hitch does not clear muffler well. The muffler rattles against the hitch. I spent extra time to "adjust the hanger to eliminate the rattle. You have to lie down to put in hitch pin, this makes it harder for someone to steal my bike carrier. 278688

Receiver is well constructed and looks great on our Prius V. Installation was not too challenging for this above avg. novice, however one problem did arise. When attempting to reinstall tow bar as instructed, I found that the tow bar had to put back on backwards, in order to have bolt holds in receiver and tow bar to line up. 186496

Service was outstanding, everything fit exact, and delivery on time. Most outstanding were the videos on how to install, spot on. Hitch took thirty minutes, wire harness forty-five This was on a Prius V. This will be used to pull a small boat , boat and trailer 600lb. Thanks for your outstanding help. 421414

Great product and installation. The hitch has minimal profile that does not detract from the rear end view. Installation was straightforward and quick at 1 hour from start to finish including prep and minimal clean up. The video on eTrailer website was excellent and went exactly as described. 246712

Ask the Experts about this Curt Trailer Hitch
Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Recommended Hitch for 2012 Toyota Prius V
  • The best hitch for you will depend on what you were wanting to use it for. If you were planning on simply using the hitch as a mount for a bike rack (due to the capabilities of the Class I hitch, you will need a Class I rated bike rack and will be limited to carrying two bikes), the Draw-Tite Class I receiver, part # 24847 would be your best choice. The Curt hitch, # C11276 would also be a fine choice, albeit a bit more expensive. The hitch warranty stipulates that a stabilizing strap...

  • Is the Required Curt Stabilizing Strap Included with Hitch # 11469 for a 2010 Toyota Prius
  • The Curt Stabilizing Strap, part # 18050, is not included with their hitches. It attaches to the bike rack then to the vehicle to keep the forces exerted on the bike rack and hitch when hitting bumps from damaging the hitch. On passenger cars this can be attached to the edge of the trunk lid that meets rear windshield or on SUVs, you can attach to the top edge of the hatch. The use of a strap is necessary for Curt warranty requirements. You can also use bungee cords like # 3044DAT,...

  • Can the Thule T2 Bike Rack Be Used with a Hitch Adapter in a Class I Hitch on a 2012 Toyota Prius
  • Your best option for carrying 2 bikes would be to use a bike rack that is compatible with Class I hitches. When using a hitch adapter, like part # HTAD, to use a 2 inch accessory in a Class I hitch, the capacity of the hitch is reduced by 50 percent. In your case 110 pounds will exceed 50 percent of the 200 pound capacity of any trailer hitch, like the hitch you referenced, # C11276, available for your 2012 Toyota Prius. I recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro, # TH9054, which is compatible...

  • Hitch Comparison for a 2012 Toyota Prius V Trailer Hitch
  • If you check out the picture I attached you can see what your 2012 Toyota Prius V would look like with either the Draw-Tite Hitch # 24847 or the Curt Hitch # C11276 would look like once installed. As you can see both of them hang about the same distance from the bottom of the vehicle and will be the same in terms of visibility. Both of these hitches will be largely out of plain sight, but will be somewhat visible. Either hitch would work well for you, but Curt recommends that you use...

  • Which Trailer Hitch Has Higher Ground Clearance For a 2012 Toyota Prius V
  • The Draw-Tite Hitch, # 24847, and the Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch, # 60263 (no longer available), are basically the same hitch so they both have the same ground clearance and side profile. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are sister companies that use the same design process for their trailer hitches. The top of the receiver tube for both trailer hitches will sit 4-3/4 inches below the frame rails on your 2012 Toyota Prius V. If you are planning on using the hitch for a bike rack or cargo carrier,...

  • Trailer Hitch Ball Shank Size and Use of Hitch Adaptrers on a 2010 Toyota Prius
  • Class 1 receiver hitches use a 3/4 inch ball shank size. I would recommend item # 19256, for a 1-7/8 inch ball for your hitch or the item # 19258, 2 inch ball. 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch adapters like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch Trailer Hitch Receiver, item # HTAD, are not to be used for towing because the use of an adapter significantly reduces the tongue capacity of the trailer hitch and puts excess stress on the hitch if used for towing due to the extended length...

  • Differences Between Curt and Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitches for 2012 Toyota Prius V
  • The Curt # C11276 and the Draw-Tite # 24847 Class I hitches share the same weight capacity, and the installation procedure is fairly similar. In actuality, the Curt weighs about 8 lbs more than the Draw-Tite hitch. The Curt hitch is constructed of round tube steel that's a bit larger in diameter than the square tube stock the Draw-Tite model is constructed of, which would account for the weight difference. Since both hitches have been tested and found to have the same weight bearing capacity,...

  • Installation Of Hitch On 2013 Toyota Prius
  • The hitch you need for your Toyota Prius depends on the style of Prius you own. I would first recommend checking either with your owner's manual or with your dealership to find what the towing and tongue weight capacity is for your vehicle. For the Prius or Prius Plug-In Hybrid, I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11276. This is a Class l hitch with a 1-1/4 in receiver. According to Curt, the installation procedure did not vary from the 2010 to the current model, so the install procedure shown in the videos for the 2012 and 2013 Prius would also apply to your 2010 model. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. For the hitch with a Euro drawbar that includes the hitch ball you can look at part # C112761 for 1-7/8 inch hitch ball, and part # C112762 for 2 inch hitch ball. • Availability of 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2014 Toyota Prius V
  • There isn't a 2 inch hitch available for a Toyota Prius. The rear structure of the vehicle isn't strong enough to withstand the forces necessary for the capacity that a 2 inch hitch would provide. I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # 24847. It would be possible to use an adapter like part # HTAD, which would allow you to use a 2 inch bike rack, but doing so would cut the tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of weight that can be safely hung from the hitch) by half, from...

I attached an install video for you to check out also. All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps. • The Class I trailer hitches have a stop built into them that prevent the accidental use of a Class II accessory. • Availability of Curt Hitch for 2010 Toyota Prius

Before installing a hitch, be sure to check your owners manual for any advice or prohibitions regarding installing or using a hitch. Curt requires the use of a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 any time you carry a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Draw Tite does not have that stipulation so I would lean that way.
