Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Great fit on my wife's Subaru Crosstrek. The installation wasn't too bad. On the Crosstrek, you have to lower the muffler for the installation. The trick is to put WD-40 on the rubber boot. I also strapped the hitch to my floor jack to raise it into position more easily.

Easy enough to install at home with little modification of the existing mounting points. Has worked great for my bike rack carrier. Overall very pleased a year out of install now. Would gladly put another one of these products on a second/next car.

It fit my 2014 Crosstrek Hybrid well and has been hauling our ebikes ever since. The price was reasonable and shipping was timely.

Being a newbie on how to install a trailer hitch there were some trials and tribulations during the install, likely because I don't really have the correct tools to hold the hitch up under the car while trying to bolt it on. The instructions and accompanying bolt holders were excellent. I did manage to install it and since then I've used for a bike carrier, it works very well and am considering buying a small trailer for towing.

Everything is working out very well, its been almost 3 years instead of just one but all is good. I just bought another hitch today 072024 for a 2008 toyota yaris.

Before I write the review of the installation, I can't stress enough watching the video of the installation on the Subaru Crosstrek. I used to install hitches for trailer rental company so wasn't worried about the actual install but by reviewing the videos before my hitch even arrived allowed me to quick and easily install it. Those are a great resource that etrailer.com provides.

Since I didn't have a lift, I used a set of car ramps to get the rear of the car high enough. It was just a little too high to lay down and work but not quite high enough to sit up and work... However, I strongly recommend finding a way to safely lift up the rear to do this install.

The hitch itself, what can I really say, bolted on easily, I like the tab for holding the wiring. I ran the wiring first and ran it through one of the drain plugs in the bottom of the spare tire area so that it's always ready to use. This should give us years of great use and light duty towing.

NOTE: The hitch is rated much higher than the car is for weight, we went with it because of accessories we already own being 2".

Ordered on a Monday, delivered on Thursday, installed on Friday, and put to use on Saturday! The whole process went very smoothly. I watched the install video a couple times before hitch arrived and didn't have any real issues getting it installed. It took me about an hour but that's because I did it solo and without ramps. The video showed that you needed to expand one of the holes in the car frame, but I was able to get the install done without having to expand them.

Overall, I'm very pleased. Transaction and install were pain free and the hitch did exactly what I wanted it for...to be able to use my hitch mounted bike rack on my Crosstrek instead of having to use the wife's Suburban every time I needed to use the bike rack.

Customer service was awesome. George J noticed I ordered the wrong size ball thread for the items I ordered and contacted me before sending order. Much appreciated. I ordered the trailer hitch and wiring and could not believe how easy the installation was. I will order all my products and refer all my friends to etrailer.com and again thank you George.

I was super impressed that I order the hitch kit, plus the wiring and I received all of it in one box in two days from when I ordered. The installation was super simple. Didn’t even need to lower the exhaust. Would definitely buy from etrailer again

This is a great product for sure. Draw-Tite is industry leading no doubt. But I am leaving this review for etrailer.com specifically! Wow! What a great organization. The price was unbeatable as I searched the net and the service was the best! Free shipping on my hitch and it was here in three days! etrailer provides online tutorials so I had my hitch installed in an hour tops! Thank you!!

Great hitch, fits my car like a glove. I haven't towed with it yet but I have no reason to think there are going to be any issues.

One thing I have to say though - the installation video on the site makes it look hillariously easy to install this hitch. Two experienced guys with a shop lift isn't the same as a couple everyday garage nerds with a couple ramps. While there is no wizardry involved, the hitch is incredibly heavy and very awkward to hold up in place. However, the instructions are clear and concise... all I'm saying is that make sure you have help and realize it may take a bit longer than stated.

I did not drop the exhaust as they did in the video. It might have made the passenger side a little easier, but I didn't see any great advantage to doing this.

One other thing - I was shorted some hardware for the hitch, but etrailer.com was very quick in responding and contacting the manufacturer to have a new hardware kit drop shipped. Took a few extra days, but things happen. It was certainly nice to have the extra fish wires. :)

I purchased the Draw-Tite hitch for my daughter’s 2014 Subaru Crosstrek. I purchased the Draw-Tite over some other brands after watching a very good etrailer video that provided an honest and unbiased review between the different brands. What I really liked about the Draw-Tite was there was no extra expansion required of any of the existing frame holes and it did not need any strapping for non-wheeled accessories like a bike rack. The hitch is supper solid and mounted well. I also think the round tube design of the Draw-Tite looks very good on the Subie Crosstrek. The installation videos available by etrailer were fantastic. They had a tip in one of them about using a piece of clear packing tape to hold the rear spacer in place to help get the nuts started which worked very well. From watching these videos I was almost able to meet the 20 minute “professional” installer estimated time from the paper instructions and I am no professional. I never would of done that well installing the hitch from just reading the paper directions.

My daughter plans to use the hitch with a bike rack. She does triathlons on a college team and this will provide a snug and solid ride for her bikes. She comes off of using a strap mounted bike rack for her deceased Honda civic and she is super excited about getting the Subie with the hitch rack. I believe this hitch teamed with a receiver bike rack will provide a more solid carrier for the bikes.

I had purchased two other hitches from etrailer for other cars in our family fleet … this being my third hitch purchased from etrailer. Their good pricing, service, knowledge of their product and installation videos make me a returning customer and etrailer will continue to be my go-to source for any hitches, racks and accessories.

Great hitch receiver that went in with relatively little pain. Wheel ramps made it easier and I would recommend spending the money if you're going to install this in your driveway. The only real hassle was the rearward, passenger-side nut that requires a deep socket to clear the bolt at it comes though. All in all, the total installation was about 30 minutes, but I was a bit lazy and didn't lower the muffler (didn't need to). I would strongly recommend this receiver over the others as this is spec'd to handle bike racks (it's main purpose for me) without a strap.

As an additional step, I also sprayed the bolts and nuts with Plasti-Dip to rust-proof them while allowing the ability to peel it off in case of service (not that I see that happening).

Great hitch receiver!

Deciding to do my own install on my 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, I ordered a Draw-Tite hitch and a T-1 wiring harness from eTrailer. The provided videos showing each install were extremely helpful and instrumental to my DIY mindset.

Today at 1:30 pm I received my package from UPS. The install actually began this morning by taking time prior to the scheduled delivery by backing my car onto the ramps and dropping the exhaust pipe and muffler. That took about 30 minutes. At 2:00 pm I unpacked. The install had no surprises, other than the weight of the unit and figuring out the easiest way to start the nuts, not a particularly easy feat for a 64 year old man, flat on his back underneath a car. I was finished and cleaned up in time for dinner, 5:00 pm. THANKS, eTRAILER.com!!!

2016 SubaruXV Crosstrek

Well built hitch, nice powder coating. Clear instructions with great hardware. On our 2016 Subaru Crosstrek we did NOT have to drop the exhaust, it fit around it with plenty of clearance so do a trial fit on your vehicle first and you may save a bunch of time. You will need a Universal joint or crowsfoot for your torque wrench on the right rear bolt due to the offset of the mounting point.

Came earlier than expected, I thought that it will look big on my crosstrek 2013 but it didn't, the item seems very sturdy and it's heavy. Need two people to install it unless you are very creative how to install by yourself. The brackets fits fine. The hole towards the front is bigger than the one toward the bumper. Looks good , tried for my bike rack and fits without problem. Can't wait to use this product .

Awesome! EXCELLENT purchase.

by:

Was able to install this hitch on my 2016 Crosstrek myself without lowering the muffler and not jacking up the vehicle.

Read other review and having 2 auto jack stands to rest the round tube of the hutch on was the best advice. The picture attached was taken after the install but you get the idea...

Just take your time aligning the bolts to the hitch holes once you take off the fish wires and ready to install the nuts and tilting to install the rear spacer you should be all set.

by:

Not too difficult to install. Very do-able for a DIYer. The etrailer video's made it simple. Looks great on our 2017 Crosstrek. Was able to install by myself (barely), so it's really a 2 person job.

Most jobs like this turn into a cluster for me. This was the easiest thing I think I have ever done. It did not even require dropping the exhaust on my 2014 Crosstrek. It took only about a half an hour. The fish wires worked excellent on the first try and I held the hitch up with a floor jack connected everything.

by:

Exactly what we needed at a good price. etrailer made it easy to shop online and compare products. Found a local mechanic to install the hitch for us. Been working like a charm for our bike rack!

by:
2014 SubaruXV Crosstrek

watching the videos on the site definitely sold me on the product. instructions were spot on and there are plenty more installation videos online. installation took about an hour with an additional 45 minutes dealing with getting the muffler out of the way to tighten the last bolt. wiring still to be done. great product folks.

by:

GREAT PRODUCT! EVERYTHING FITS PERFECTL Y!

by:

I wanted a quality hitch for my Kuat bike rack. Finding an affordable and easy to install 2" hitch was nice. We have had no issues in nearly a year of use. Installation was easy, although a ramp or a few jack stands might have made it a tad easier.

  • Why Curt Hitch Requires Stabilizing Strap on 2017 Subaru Crosstrek But EcoHitch & Draw-Tite Do Not
The reason why the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13135 that fits your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek requires Stabilizing Strap # 18050 for accessories like bike racks but the other hitches that fit your car don't - the Draw-Tite # 76084 and EcoHitch # 306-X7203 - is completely manufacturer preference. Curt feels this is needed while the other hitch manufacturers have never felt it was necessary for their hitches. The strap can offer some support for these accessories but with seeing as how it...

I recommend the Draw Tite though because if you were to ever carry a bike rack you wouldn't have to use a stabilizer strap like the Curt requires with non-supported loads like bike racks.
