Hidden Cross Tube for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once the hitch is installed, only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. This means that your Subaru Outback Wagon can maintain its stylish, from-the-factory look, and you won't have to do any major modifications to its body or frame.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will withstand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Hidden trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road. Technical Support

2014SubaruOutback Wagon

Just finished installing this a few moment ago and I have to say that it really looks good on our 2014 Outback 3.6R. The low profile of the receiver barely extends beyond the line of the mufflers. I dont think it will be as much of a consideration when backing into a parking stall as other systems that I have seen.

There were minor issues that I ran into with the install, so it took me about 3 hours to get this mounted at home with no extra help. I also decided to do the bumper removal method. I felt comfortable removing the trim, and it had the added bonus of giving me more room to work.

If you dont have an extra set of hands to help align the hitch to the bolts, you can use a ratchet strap thrown around the hinges for the rear hatch. Hook into the loops where you normally place your trailer chains and take up the weight of the hitch. This will allow just enough support so you can have both hands to start aligning the bolts to the hitch.

Lastly, I decided to torque everything down and suspended the muffler before I reattached the bumper bar and trim. The part that was the most difficult for me was getting the dual exhaust remounted onto the rubber bungs. I ended up having to grind off about 3/4-1 inch of the rearmost post on the muffler to get it back into the bung hole.

I look forward to pulling a trailer and seeing how everything holds up down the road.

This hitch has done wonders for us in terms of being able to haul things around. We used it to tow a trailer across the country last year when the other half got a new job back home. The car and hitch combination made this all possible. We have also purchased a cargo tray to help move extra gear when we cant take up more room in the car for camping trips. If you are looking to get this, or any hitch system for an outback, I recommend also getting an adjustable ball mount, and some helper springs. It may stiffen up the ride, but youll reduce the risk of scraping the bottom of your car or whatever you may be towing.

Instructions were simple enough to follow. I was worried about installation after the initial research but it really wasn't that bad. Some bolts were lost in shipping from a damaged box but etrailer sent some more out quickly. Hitch has been working great for my 3-bike rack.

2011 SubaruOutback Wagon

Great product! We have used this hitch for several road trips and it has been very useful. I was looking for a 2" hitch for our 2011 Subaru Outback that was hidden well and this did the trick. I would normally install my own hitch, but this time I had a shop do it because the amount of modification justified using a proper lift to do it right.

2013 SubaruOutback Wagon

Best looking hitch for our Subaru by far. I love how only the receiver is visible! Installation was challenging but certainly possible for anyone handy. It got here super fast too! We wanted it for Labor Day weekend and it arrived with time to spare.

Hitch arrived as described. Will install this weekend. Instructions appear easy to follow. Thank you for the quick and easy service!

  • Installing EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2013 Subaru Outback
The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7162 is a fit for your 2013 Subaru Outback. We recommend removing the bumper fascia because the fascia will require trimming, but Torklift doesn't require it. Their installation details offer two methods of installation, one that requires removing the bumper and one that enlarges the holes instead. The video by the manufacturer shows one of these two installation methods.

  • Least Visible Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon
The least visible trailer hitch for your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Ecohitch part # 306-X7162 reason being that only the hitch tube opening hangs down below the bumper. The rest of the hitches will have the entire crosstube visible.

  • Comparison of Draw-Tite and EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers on a 2011 Subaru Outback
You're basically hit the nail on the head with the main differences between the Draw-Tite, part # 75673, and the EcoHitch, part # 306-X7162. The Draw-Tite is less expensive and is a great hitch, but the EcoHitch has a cleaner more OEM look to it. And you're also correct that there's no reason to worry about the weight capacity since you're limited to what your 2011 Subaru Outback can handle anyway. Personally, I like the look of the EcoHitch and that's what I would go with. And don't...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon that Will Allow Bike Carrier to Fold Up
For your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon, I actually recommend looking at the Curt Class III Round Tube Receiver Hitch # C13206. Between the three Class III options confirmed to fit your vehicle, the Curt model provides the shortest distance from the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper. When we had a chance to install this trailer hitch on your 2014 Outback Wagon, there was a measurement of just 2-1/2 inches from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper. I recommend taking...

  • 2014 Subaru Outback Hitch Recommendation that Does Not Require Drilling
For your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon the only hitch we offer that does not require any drilling is the EcoHitch part # 306-X7162 that you referenced. If you have an aftermarket skid plate or shield installed we can't guarantee the hitch will fit and most likely you'd have to remove it prior to hitch install. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 118467 which is a confirmed fit. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon
I recommend the EcoHitch Class III Hitch, part # 306-X7162 for your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon. This hitch is a no-drill installation that will let you quickly add the Class III hitch to your kit. For the wiring, I recommend Tekonsha's T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118467. This kit installs using your vehicle's factory trailer wiring harness. I've included a video detailing how this installs. Additionally, this video includes instructions on how to install the wiring through the...

  • Recommendation for Low Profile Class III Trailer Hitch on 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon
The two most concealed Class III hitches available for your 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon, the Draw-Tite # 76227 and the EcoHitch # 306-X7162, both features 2 inch receivers that will pretty much sit right up against the bottom of the rear bumper fascia on the vehicle. We haven't had the chance to install either of these hitches on the 2013 model Subaru Outback Wagon so I don't have exact ground clearance dimensions, but if you measure down around 2-3/4 inches from the bottom of the bumper...

  • Ground Clearance on a 2010 Subaru Outback Wagon with an EcoHitch
I cannot verify that the ride height will be the same between a 2010 Subaru Outback Wagon and a 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon but I can tell you that the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 306-X7162 has a ground clearance measurement of 10-1/2" which is taken from the ground to the bottom of the trailer hitch receiver. The 2" trailer hitch we have that offers the most ground clearance is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13390 which measures around 12" from the the ground to...

  • Hitch for 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon with Best Ground Clearance
For your 2011 Subaru Outback Wagon the best hitch for ground clearance is the Curt # C13410 which fits very tightly to the rear bumper of the vehicle but also doesn't have a crosstube that hangs below the bumper either which helps with ground clearance on uneven terrain as the only thing that hangs down is right in the middle. This has 1/2 inch better ground clearance than the Draw Tite that also fits. I attached a picture of what it looks like installed as well as an install video for...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver to Fit a 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "direct fit" because all three of the Class III trailer hitch receivers we carry for your 2014 Subaru Outback are custom made and designed for your vehicle. The hitch that has the most factory-like look is the Ecohitch, part # 306-X7162. Once installed all you see is the open receiver tube under the rear bumper of your Subaru. Take a look at the picture I attached. The downside to this hitch is the install requries the bumper to be temporarily removed...
