Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario. Technical Support

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2013 Subaru Forester - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2013 Subaru Forester we'll be installing the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24807. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next we'll go ahead and give you a couple measurements to assist your with selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 6-1/2". From the top of the receiver tube opening to the ground is 14". This will assist you with selecting accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier.

Now we'll go ahead with installation. Now to begin our install we'll first need to lower the exhaust. To safely lower the exhaust we'll put a safety strap underneath to help support the weight. Then we'll need to remove five rubber isolators from the metal hangers. To remove the rubber isolators from the metal hangers we'll use some spray lubricant and a pry bar or pliers to remove the rubber isolator. Once we have all five removed we can then use the safety strap to safely lower the weight of the exhaust. Now that we've gained access to the frame rails we can go ahead and point out the attachment points.

We'll have a total of four attachment points, two on each side. We'll be using the holes that are already pre-drilled in the frame by the manufacturer. To use those holes we'll first go ahead and remove the rubber plugs or grommets. Using a flat blade screwdriver we can simply get underneath them and then remove them and set them aside, as they will not be reinstalled. Now to get our hardware into the frame we'll need to enlarge the forward access hole. To do this we're going to use a 3/8 drill bit and drill next to the hole.

Then using a round file bit we'll go ahead and open it up a little larger and go ahead and test fit our 1/2" hardware. Now that the 1/2" hardware will go in place, there's one more bolt that we'll need to remove. It's the forward attachment point for the muffler heat shield. We'll go ahead and remove this bolt, as it will not be reinstalled. We'll go ahead and repeat this same process for the opposite side.

Now ready to go ahead and install our hardware. The hardware for our forward attachment point will be a 7/16 carriage bolt and block secured with a 7/16 conical tooth washer and nut. We'll also use the 7/16 pull wire provided with our install kit to pull them into place. Our forward attachment point will be a 1/2" carriage bolt and block along with a 1/2" conical tooth washer and nut. To get that into place we'll be using the 1/2" bolt leader provided with the install kit. Now let's go ahead and get our hardware into the frame. We'll take our pull wire, feed it through the attachment point, and out the access hole. We'll then slide on the block right on the carriage bolt. We'll feed the block and bolt into the frame and pull them into position. For our forward attachment point we'll slide the block onto the bolt leader and then thread on the carriage bolt. Then using the reverse pull method we'll feed the carriage bolt into the frame first, followed by the block, then pull them back over top of the access hole. We'll leave the bolt leaders on at this time, as it will assist in getting our hitch up into position without pushing our hardware back up into the frame. We can now go ahead and repeat the same process on the passenger side. Now with all our hardware in place we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch. It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install the fasteners. We'll feed the bolt leaders through the attachment points of the hitch to bring the hitch up against the frame. We can then remove the bolt leader and install the conical tooth washer and nut, being sure that the teeth of the washer face the hitch. With all our hardware installed finger tight we'll go ahead and run it down. Next we'll torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now with our hitch secured and torqued to specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. With that, this will complete the install of the Draw-Tite hitch, part number 24807, on our 2013 Subaru Forester. .

The entire installation may have taken a bit over an hour, but not much. Everything fit fine. I removed the mufflers rather than lowering the whole exhaust system, and I expanded the hole in the top of the frame rather than the bottom rail. I think that was much easier. Also, kept the fish wires on the bolts while I raised the hitch into position, so that I was able to keep from pushing the bolts back into the frame. 23937

Good Value, but not OEM I have used my trailer hitch on my 09 Subaru Forester several times now, and I am fairly happy with it. Installation was a little bit of a pain, but not terribly so. The only concern that I had was the need to use a drill or Dremel tool to open up a couple of holes on the frame rails. Overall, the hitch seems quite sturdy, and I am satisfied with my purchase, and the price is fair. 886

Product went on ok with directions but I needed to remove more parts off the car that instructions indicated and it took much longer than Instructions had listed. Ordering and shipping was great, I received the order much much faster than I expected, it was on my door the second day after I ordered it. Thanks, I will order from you again 42943

Instead of dropping the muffler system, I just disconnected the mufflers and one of the rubber mounts. They just swivelled out of the way. I thought the "fishing" was going to be a problem but I fished them throught the small hole and out the enlarged hole instead of the way the instructions said. Much easier. All in all a easy project. 28635

The instructions were clear and easy to follow. The hardware provided fit exactly where the directions said they would. Very solid product. Couldn't be happier with it. Once I was set up the install took me about half an hour. Those bolt alignment tools they provided were a life saver. Genius idea!! 236832

E-trailer's installation videos make this installation easy. It took longer than the 35 minutes the mfg indicates, but it was still very easy to do. I have this installed on a Subaru Forester and it works great. Highly recommend purchasing from e-trailer. 49708

Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance required to clear the rear of the vehicle. If that distance is less than 18 inches then the rack will fit. The hitch is fixed and the gas tank likely cannot move up or down (or at all really) they would not come into contact with each other.
