well made , and installed easy

by:

Works and installs as advertised.

by:

The feeding wirers went a lot easer than I tought they would. The hitch looks good

by:

Quality was great, price is great, and installatio was straightofrward.

by:

Installed relatively quickly and looks great!

by:

This hitch is very well built, it's not a flimsy thing like other hitches in this price range. Also, amazing customer service follow up. It seems, if your not happy they're not happy.

by:

Installation is a little trickier than envisioned. The one suggestion I would have is to buy a couple of muffler gaskets and remove them rather than wrestle with a hanging exhaust system. Made a bit easier in my opinion.

by:

Your customer service is wonderful. The product is great quality. Thank you very much for such wonderful customer service. I will be recommending this company to everyone I know

by:

I was concerned about the installation but following the instructions, I found it to be easy.

by:

My hitch arrived on time, it fit right, and the instructions were adequate (I had also read descriptions on the Forum relating to my car). The price was very right and the free shipping sealed the deal.

by:

Super fast shipping for free! Took me about 1.5 hrs to install at a very relaxed pace. The hardest part for me was unhooking the exhaust hangers, fishing bolts through went suprisingly easy. Highly recommend, great price... great product.

by:

Awesome service, I have used and installed items from your site and have always been very pleased. Yesterday I installed a new Hitch on one of my most valuable customers vehicle (my wifes!!!) Thanks again for great service....Dan B....

by:

The hitch fit perfectly and went in as directed. I was, however, unable to get both sides of the hitch in place without removing the mufflers. With the mufflers removed (easy - 2 bolts each) the hitch was MUCH easier to install and tighten to the appropriate torque.

by:

The installation video was helpful, and shows just how helpful working on a lift is for this job. Product installed without problems, nice appearance, can easily access receiver tube and safety chain points.

Installation went well.I like the Curt class II hitch on my 2010 Forester. Well made and very well finished. The lower cost compared to the Subaru hitch is real significant.

by:

Well made and look goodGot the hitch install quick with the video provided by etrailer.
etrailer provided fast shipping.
The price sure beat other places.
A happy customer and will do business again.

40 minutes???, maybe not. I feel confident in my mechanical skills, but this can not be done in 40 minutes. I never felt over-matched with this hitch install, but it certainly was more difficult than I imagined it would be. But, isn't everything worthwhile usually difficult? The final product was worth all the effort. I couldn't be more pleased.

Now, time to put the wrenches away and hook the toy trailer up to the Forester and have some fun!

by:

Watch the video but remove the mufflers. Two bolts each, slide the rear muffler hanger off first. It is much easier with them out of the way. This is the 4th Curt hitch I have installed. Every one has fit perfectly. Can't say that about some of the other brands.

2011 SubaruForester

Bought this hitch for a 2011 Forester. The hitch went on just like the instruction video said it would. Hitch arrived in good condition and with all the parts. I put the car up on 5" wood blocks to get a little extra space for the installation. I did the install by myself but it would have been a bit easier to have an extra set of hands for puting the rack in position and getting the nuts started. Thumbs up for the service and the product.

I couldn't quite manage to do the install myself, so I had it done this morning at my garage. The price wasn't too steep, but it took a little longer than the proposed "30-40 minutes."

In conjunction with the new bike rack, the hitch will help avoid the awkward bouts of jamming my bike in and out of the back of my car, and with all the freed-up room, I can now transport more stuff and people (and their bikes)!

No plans to haul anything other than the bike rack at this point, but it's at least more of a possibility than it was prior. Thank you!!!

2011 SubaruForester

I ordered the Curt 12047 hitch for my 2010 Subaru Forester at around 1 am on Saturday, June 11 and received an e-mail confirmation shortly after. About an hour later at around 2:30 am Saturday I received an email from George stating that the product was in stock and should ship within 24-48 hours and that I would receive shipping information as soon as available. At about 9 am on Saturday, the shipment was given a tracking number. I received the shipment on Wednesday.

Today (Thursday) I used the excellent installation video and the printed instructions to install the hitch without any issues. It took less than an hour not including gathering the tools.

One suggestion is to check the forward two holes that have to be enlarged to insure that the head of the carriage bolt can pass through before using the fish wire to place the block and bolt.

I used a small diameter poly rope to hang the exhaust and lowered the exhaust about 8-10 inches. WD40 worked just fine to lube the rubber hangers and steel pegs.

I purchased a hitch (12047)and wiring harness (118467), it was an easy installation. Very speedy delivery, 6 days. Thanks for the great service.

The hitch arrived promptly in perfect condition. No problems with installation on my 2012 Forester 2.5x. The video was a great help. Thanks.

2009 Subaru Forester trailer hitch installationSome FYI notes:

1. I removed the splash guards to allow sufficient side-to-side movement
of the mufflers for drilling and grinding.
2. I used an ATV lift to position the trailer hitch and to lift the
mufflers/tailpipe back into place prior to reinstalling the rubber hangers.

Overall, this was a simple job. If I had one before, it would have taken
40-60 minutes. But the final installation looks really good.

by:

Hitch arrived exactly when it was supposed to. Customer service was excellent. I got at least 3 follow up emails from Etrailer and they upgraded me to a faster shipping for no charge. There was one tiny flaw in the hitch from shipping which is why I didnt' give it an excellent but I just put a little black gloss paint to prevent rust and now you cant even tell it was there. I did not install it myself. It was done by a professional for 50 bucks. Took him 20 minutes and came out perfect. Used the hitch this weekend for my bike rack. Very pleased with etrailer and the Curt Hitch.

No qualms. Very slight rust on the outer most lip that I could probably clean off myself or touch up if it was that noticeable. Thanks for asking.

  • Is Wiring Included with a Trailer Hitch for a 2009 Subaru Forester and is there Drilling Required
Trailer hitches and accessories such as wiring or items used to tow (ball mounts, balls) are sold separately from each other in most cases. The correct ball mount recommended with the Curt trailer hitch # C12047 is # C45521. For a ball use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 19258 for a 2 inch and for a pin and clip use # F-4. And for trailer wiring use # 118467. I have linked a video showing how the wiring installs. There is no fascia or bumper trimming required to install the hitch or wiring....

  • Best Trailer Hitch Installers Near Colorado Springs CO
Hello Jerry, thanks for reaching out. We can always install the hitch for you at our shop here in Missouri. That might be a bit far, and we do have a few good installers in your area. I suggest either First & Main Tire in Colorado Springs, or Manitou Auto Service in Manitou Springs. Both of these have experience installing our hitches. The link below will show you our complete list of installers in your area. Just enter your zip code. The two places I mentioned should be the first two on...

  • Is there Clearance for Installation of a Hitch Bike Rack on a 2011 Subaru Forester
You would most likely need an extension to be able to use a bike rack with only 4-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the carrier. We have a video of a hitch installation on a 2010 Subaru Forester, see link, that shows the hitch pin hole on that vehicle ends up about 7-1/2 inches back from the farthest out part of the rear bumper. You would only need about 3 inches of extension, so the Brophy Hitch Extender, # hes6, with 6 inches of extension would work...

  • Recommendation on a Hitch and 4 Bike Rack for a 2011 Subaru Forester
I have a solution for you. On your 2011 Subaru Forester, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 75650. The Draw-Tite hitch has a 2 inch receiver opening which will allow to have a wider range of options for hitch accessories like bike racks or cargo carriers. This hitch has an easy bolt-on installation and all hardware will be included for the installation. I recommend the Draw-Tite hitch over the Curt Hitch # C12047 for a couple reasons. The Curt hitch uses the...

  • How to Pick Out a Ball Mount for a 1-1/4 inch Hitch
It's hard to say for certain what hitch you have on your 2009 Subaru Forester, but it looks just like the Curt Class II hitch part # C12047 which happens to be a Class II hitch. You would want to stick with a Class II 1-1/4 inch ball mount as using an adapter will cut the capacity of the hitch in half. In order to determine what ball mount you would need you will want to check out the help article I attached that details how to pick out a ball mount so that your trailer is towed as level...

  • Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller to Tow 1,500 Pound Trailer with 2010 Subaru Forester
The 2010 Subaru Forester is rated for 2,400 pounds gross trailer weight as long as the trailer has brakes. If the trailer does not have brakes it is limited to 1,000 pounds. For a trailer hitch that will cover the towing capacity of the vehicle you can indeed use # C12047. The recommended ball mount is # C45521 along with the pin and clip # F-4. For a 2 inch ball you can use # C40018. You will also need a trailer wiring harness on your Forester. If the trailer has electric brakes then...

  • Which Trailer Hitch is Safest and Performs Best for a 2009 Subaru Forester
The Curt Curt Class II Hitch, part # 12047 has more attachment points because of its higher weight capacity. It is rated at 3,500lbs while the Draw Tite Class I Hitch, part # 24807 and Hidden Hitch Class I Hitch, part # 60893 are rated for 2,000lbs. Ratings for hitches are subjective. They do have to comply with DOT specs before they can be sold. Each manufacturer is held to the same standard. The big advantage in this case is the Curt being a Class II. Yes, the installation instructions for the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 13147, are the same as Curt Trailer Hitch, part # 12047. You can use the video for Curt Hitch # 13147 as reference when installing on your 2011 Subaru Forester. • Trailer Hitch Replacement Hardware Recommendation for Curt Trailer Hitch on 2013 Subaru Forester
We have replacement hardware for Curt trailer hitches as our part number # RHK. What you'll need to do is select the part number of the hitch you have on the product page and select Curt as the manufacturer. Since there are two Curt hitches available for your 2013 Subaru Forester you'll have to determine which you have. It's pretty easy to though. If you have a 2 inch hitch opening the hitch you have is the part # 13147. If you have a 1-1/4 inch opening you'd instead want the part # C12047.
