If you want to take your bikes to the trail with your family this summer, you have plenty of options. You can carry your bikes on top of your car with a roof rack, but that bulky rack can increase drag on your ride. You can use a trunk rack, but that's a pain to mount and it can scratch your car's paint. Or you can install a hitch on your ride and use a hitch-mounted bike rack to carry your bikes.

This rack receiver is designed to act as a mounting point for your hitch bike rack or cargo carrier. Just slide the shank of your carrier into the receiver for use, and when you're done you can not only remove the carrier, but the receiver as well, leaving your vehicle looking clean and unmodified.

Completely Hidden Design

Nothing can ruin the clean, stylish look of your vehicle like a giant piece of metal bolted beneath its bumper. Luckily, with the Stealth Hitches rack receiver, you never have to worry about messing up your vehicle's lines.

Removable receiver

This hitch installs behind your bumper, keeping the cross tube concealed and leaving only the hitch receiver visible. Even better, the receiver can be easily removed from the cross tube when it's not in use so that you won't see any trace of the hitch. This means that you can retain that clean, from-the-factory look for your ride, while still being able to carry your bikes and gear on the next family road trip.

Simple Set Up

The receiver can be attached or detached in seconds with no tools required. To insert the receiver, simply pop the base up into the stainless steel block at the center of the hitch until it automatically latches in place.

push lock

Be sure to then press the lock on the side of the block to fully secure the receiver. When you're finished carrying your bikes or cargo, use the included key to unlock the latch. Then turn the handle on the block clockwise and remove the receiver. You can stow the receiver in a safe place, like your vehicle's rear cargo area, or you can use a convenient carrying case (391CASER - sold separately).

hitch plug and center block

And when you're not using the receiver attachment, the included hitch plug covers the center block's opening to protect the hitch's body from dirt and debris.

Strict Safety Testing

This Stealth Hitches rack receiver meets and exceeds the safety standards set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Even better, the receiver also meets the stricter regulations mandated for European safety testing.

This European testing includes more rigorous dynamic load testing in addition to traditional static load tests. In order to meet these stricter safety regulations, the Stealth Hitches rack receiver must have a Stealth Hitches ball mount (sold separately) inserted if you want to tow. These ball mounts are specifically designed to provide the tighter tolerances needed to fulfill the European requirements, resulting in a safe, rattle-free towing experience.

This testing ensures that each Stealth Hitches rack receiver can handle real-world conditions, letting you safely haul your cargo without worry.

Video Transcript for Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver Installation - 2018 Audi S5

Hey everyone Shane here with etrailer.com. Today, I have a 2018 Audi S5. I want to walk you how to stall the Stealth Hitch hidden rack receiver. This is what our hitch is gonna look like when it's installed. As you can see, we don't, we can't see anything. Everything is hidden behind the fascia.

We're gonna have a small block down here on the bottom that allows us to use the receiver when we're ready to use it. And then take it out when we're not. This is only gonna be designed for your bike racks and cargo carriers. It's not designed for towing. There is a towing kit available that you can find here at etrailer.

It's gonna come with the wiring. It's gonna come with the ball and ball mount. And it's also gonna come with the safety chains. There is a full kit available that comes with everything needed. Take the fascia off one time.

Trim one time. Have everything installed, including your wiring, and your ready to go for anything that you need to. This is gonna give us a two inch by two inch receiver tube opening. So it's gonna accommodate a lot of different accessories. Hitch pin hole is gonna be 5/8 inch in diameter.

It's gonna take a standard 5/8 hitch pin and clip. The pin and clip do not come with this hitch, however they can be found here at etrailer. Black powder coat finish. Steel construction. It'll hold up really well. As I mentioned, when we're not using it, we can easily remove it. And it maintains a nice factory look. Nobody knows that we have a receiver on the back of the vehicle. Another the nice thing about this, when we're not hauling a bike rack, we're gonna have a rubber cap. Slide that right into place. And it keeps anything from getting inside of that hole. We're also gonna have a lock. So when we add a receiver, we can push the lock in, and somebody can't come up and just remove it. It is gonna come with two sets of keys. When you get this, when you're installing it, this block right here will have this cap on it. The keys will be up inside of it. To get it out, once it's unlocked, there's a handle right here. We're gonna take it and turn it towards the front of the vehicle. This is actually the first time that I've installed this hitch on this vehicle. Installation process is really not that difficult. It's not gonna require any specialty tools except your torque wrench and maybe a cutting tool. There is wiring that is up here in this corner. The fascia does have to be removed. The wiring in this corner can not be disconnected. So you need to make sure you have a table or a rack, so that when you take the facial off, you can set it on that rack without disconnecting it. If that comes disconnected, the car has to go back to the manufacturer and it has to get reprogrammed. It is a required trimming, as you can see here. With this receiver, we're gonna have a 350 pound max tongue weight, which is a downward pressure on the inside of the receiver tube. So when you're loading up the cargo carrier or bike rack, you want to make sure you're not exceeding that. From your center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost part of our fascia, which is gonna be here, we're looking at about two inches. That number is important for those cargo carriers and bike racks that fold up. You want to make sure they're not gonna make contact. From the ground to the top innermost part of our receiver tube. We're looking at about 10 1/2 inches. Keep that number in mind for any other accessories that may require a little bit more ground clearance. A nice accessory that you can add with your Stealth Hitch receiver is a carrying case. It's gonna be a very durable case. It's gonna have a nice cover on it. Very durable, double zipper. You can see, it's gonna store the receiver inside. Nice thick foam padding. So if you happen to set something on top of it, it's not gonna smash it down. It's also gonna come with a key chain to hold your keys so they don't get lost. It makes it very easy to store this when you're not using it. Now, if you went with a tow package kit, there is another case available here at etrailer. It's gonna hold everything that comes with it. Your ball mount, your receiver, also key chain for your keys. Made out of the same material. It's gonna have a nice durable foam pad on the inside. So it makes it very rigid. If something was set on top of it, it's not gonna smash down flat. It's gonna have a nice large pouch here. So if you want to put some gloves or something like that inside, you can keep everything contained in one spot. Start your installation. We're gonna open our trunk. We're gonna come to this little panel on the inside of our taillight. We're gonna take a plastic pry tool. We're gonna start right here at the top, and we're gonna work away pulling out as you go along the light. And then we'll set that aside. We'll take a T25 Torx bit. We're gonna remove these two screws. Then we need to, we're gonna take our light and we're gonna pull straight out. If you find that it's not coming loose up here, you take that pry tool. Kind of get it right in the back side here. And that will pop it loose. On the inner side, we're gonna disconnect the wiring, push down on the green tab. And we'll slide it out. Right in this corner, we're gonna have a small pin. We need to pry this up. Then we're gonna slide it all the way out. We're gonna repeat that process on the other side of the vehicle. Remove all your floor coverings. Grab a 10 millimeter socket. We're gonna come to our threshold. And we're just gonna pull up on it. Start at one end. And we're gonna work our way across to the other side. We'll set that aside. Once you have your threshold removed, 10 millimeter socket, put a short extension on it. Then on the inside, this panel on our passenger side and driver's side, we're gonna remove the panel, simply by turning the little knob. We're gonna pop this out. On our driver's side it's just the panel. The passenger side, we need to remove this plug. Right on the under side of it, you're gonna push that little tab. And we'll set this aside. On the inside, right at the back, we're gonna have another 10 millimeter nut we need to remove on each side of the vehicle. Right on the inside of the wheel well liner on the backside of the tire, the directions are gonna say to remove four T25 Torx head bit screws. I have only found three. So we'll remove these on each side of the vehicle. We're gonna take a 10 millimeter socket on the bottom, we're gonna have plastic nut here, plastic nut here. Remove both of those. And what I recommend doing before you start taking the fascia off, is tape the two lines between your fascia and your fender, and you see how I have this one done. Driver's side, we're gonna do it just a little bit different. Driver's side, we're gonna take the two edges, but we're gonna take this whole side of this panel because when we take the fascia off, we're gonna have it, it's gonna be wired. We can not disconnect the wiring. So we're gonna have to take the fascia and flip it on its face onto a table or something like that. And if these two edges meet, I don't want to scratch this up here. As I mentioned before, there we're three screws that are holding our wheel well liner in place. The directions say there's four holding the wheel well liner in place. There is a fourth screw, but it actually doesn't hold the wheel well liner in. It's actually straight up here and it holds your fascia to your fender. So push your wheel well liner back. We're gonna take that same T25 and we're gonna remove that screw on each side. Then we're gonna come to each corner, grab an extra set of hands. We're gonna slowly start to pull out. If for some reason, there's little clips in here, if they don't disconnect, you take a pry tool and you can expose the very edge. You can take the plastic pry tool and poke it down in there to release the clip. Then we're gonna slide this straight back. The nut that we took off on the inside, the thread could get caught on that hole a little bit. So just, don't just yank it up. This wiring right here is the wiring that we cannot disconnect. You can't unplug anything. So, because we have so little bit of room, what I'm gonna do is the zip ties that are on here, I'm gonna cut the zip tie 'cause we can add zip ties on later, to give us some more room that we can take this and set it to the side a little bit. 5/8 socket. We're gonna remove the three bolts on each side of our bumper beam. Might be easier if you use an impact. A smaller impact. Use a socket wrench first to get these loose. What I also suggests is I don't know if the bumper beam, once you take all these out, if it has a little clip that holds it in place. I suggested loosening it up and then hand thread it in just a little bit while you can take off the other side. That way it just doesn't fall down. Actually, we're gonna take a 16 millimeter socket on the inside of the vehicle where this pin is on our passenger side. We're gonna remove the nut. Right underneath this corner of your carpet. This is a nut. Now we can come back, remove the two bolts that we hand threaded in in the corners. And set our bumper beam aside for now. Now we're gonna take our new hitch crossbar. We're gonna slide it in just like that. We're gonna hold it in place, and you might get an extra set of hands to help you out. We're gonna take our bumper beam and we're gonna install it right over the top. Reinstall the nut on the inside to help hold it in place. And we're gonna take a hex bolt that comes in your kit. We're gonna put a flat lock washer on it first, and then a flat washer. And those are gonna go in place of our factory bolts. Once you have your bumper beam installed, you have all six bolts in place. Go ahead and tighten the inside nut down. Take a 17 millimeter socket. We're gonna come back, we're gonna torque, or tighten and torque, the six bolts here on the outside. The specifications for that are gonna be listed in the instructions. Next we're gonna have to mark out our fascia to trim it. If you have a hands-free lift gate wire, pull this out. And we're gonna leave it lay like that for now. I'm gonna go ahead and get it marked out. Then I'll show you how we're gonna be cutting it. Tape is my friend when I'm doing this. One, because it's easier to mark on the outside then on the inside and then watch how you're cutting. That way, if you're marking on the tape and you mess up, you can just pull the tape off and you don't have a bunch of marks on the panel itself. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna come over 3 1/4 inches, put a mark. On this side from this corner, we're gonna go over one inch and put a mark. It should be a total of 11 1/2 inches between these two. From here, we're gonna go down 3 1/2 inches and put a mark. Same thing on this side. And then we're gonna just gonna meet those two lines. And this is gonna be our cutout. Another thing, keep in mind, before you start cutting, always look at it and make sure it's in the right place. You'll notice how these are. You have two right here in the center. This outside line and this line will come right on that line, where that piece is. And this is where you're gonna take your mark across the two bottoms. So these are not coming straight down, they're coming at an angle right on, right following this. But right here. I'm gonna use a rotary tool with a cutting blade. Really a cutting tool is gonna work the best for cutting this out. A utility knife, this is gonna be too thick. Again, make sure your cable if you have one is out of the way, so you don't cut it. Now you can do this a couple of different ways. The little burs that are on here, a lot of them you can break off, but we're gonna clean up that edge a little bit better. You can use a file. What I find works good is the utility knife. Make sure it has a sharp blade in it. We're just gonna run it down that edge. Now we need to relocate our hands-free lift gate wire. Kit's gonna get some tie-downs that look like this. They're gonna have sticky tape on the backside. We're gonna put one here, one here, two in the middle, one here, and one here. Make sure you clean this off 'cause this is pretty dusty. Use some rubbing alcohol. I'm gonna go ahead and start here in the middle. I'm not gonna put my last one on just yet. Take your zip ties that come in your kit. We're gonna slide them through like that. We're not gonna tighten them all the way down just yet. We'll take our wire. We're gonna feed it through each one of these. I'm gonna start at the end with the plug. Then we can start tightening down our zip ties. We don't need to over-tighten them. Just tight enough where they're gonna hold the wire in place. Now we're gonna install our block. We want the handle on the passenger side, lock on the driver's side. Gold head is gonna be on the passenger side because of the handle. Everyone is gonna have a lock nut for each one. 15/16 socket wrench. We'll come back and tighten each one of those. Now we're gonna come back and we're gonna torque each one of our bolts to the specifications in the instructions. Once you have those torqued down, you can reinstall your fascia in reverse order from the way you took it off. And a little trick I learned. Once you get your fascia back on, to get the nut back inside there. If you go to try to put it on with your finger, you have a chance of dropping it down in there, and then you have to have a magnet to try to get it out. Take a piece of paper towel, put it over your socket. Push the nut down on there and it won't come off. If you're worried about the little piece of paper towel staying in there, it's probably gonna be behind the nut when you tighten it down. Take a pair of needle nose, stick it right in the hole and just pull the paper towel out. Once you've got everything back in place, pull this cap off the bottom. Your keys will be inside. Pull the cap off of your lock. Slide your receiver in place, lock it down, put your cap back on and you're ready to go. That's gonna do it for a look at an installation on this Stealth rack receiver on a 2018 Audi S5..

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

Great product - was hesitant at first because it was nearly double the price of other options, however, to have the ability of not seeing a hitch on the back of my BMW X5 M sport was more than worth the price. I actually tackled the installation myself due to a quote of nearly $400 at my local shop. I knocked it out in just a tad over an hour by myself in my garage with nothing more than a trim removal kit, some tools I already have, and the tutorial video they provide. Pumped to finally have a hitch for my bike racks on the back of my X5 instead of constantly using my wife’s SUV that we fitted with a cheaper hitch.

Still one the best purchases I’ve made for my vehicle - bike rack goes on and off the SUV at least once a week and being able to remove the hitch for a clean look afterwards is worth the price.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

There are not many options for 2019+ V60, but I am glad I ordered the Stealth hitch. Without the receiver extension, the hitch just disappear. My only issue is the price. Installation was relatively easy, the instructions are well made, etrailer video was also very helpful. It took me a bit less than 2 hours alone and it could have taken 30 min less if it was not for the very tight tolerance between the center block (billet block) and the hitch. It is very tight, I had to use lubricants and a hammer to get in there and align the holes for the bolts. The paint is just too thick there. Other than that, the installation was a breeze. My only questions, is can I use my Kuat rack in 4 bikes mode or it is just too heavy ?

Thank you for your review. The Max TW for this hitch is 350 lbs and from the pictures you provided it looks like you have the Kuat NV 2.0? That bike rack is 110lbs. So you will have to be very careful with your 4 bikes and weigh them precisely so you do not over extend the weight limit.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

Just had the hitch installed. Plan on using it for my bike rack outside of winter season. Since it is winter and will not be using my bike rack, I have removed the receiving portion of the hitch. Wanted to maximize clearance, and this hitch is just below bumper. Previously owned uhaul hitch was several inches lower on 2014 Outback. Looks very slick, well made and solid. Rubberized lock and receiver attachment covers looks like they will prevent water and salt from entering the locking areas during the winter - tight fit. Receiver drops into hand with turn of release knob, a little awkward yo use when reaching under bumper facial that was cut away. No sign of a hitch when the receiver attachment is removed. Installers took about 1.5 hrs to attach.

The hitch has been great thus far. Easy on and off, especially with salt and snow. Then back on after a rain and melt. Its off for the winter now. A little rat on the hitch receiver, but the under car mount looks pretty free of rust.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

This is a very high quality hitch system. The color printed instructions (also easily available .pdf online) are fairly clear. The detach system is very high quality and works great. I am giving 4/5 for the high price. Tips: I have installed this type of hitch on a 2012 VW Jetta and now a 2011 S4 Sedan. When it came to cutting the plastic bumper to gain access to the hitch assembly, just take your time and get it close. As long as you are close to the proper area you will not be able to see the cuts. On my VW I spent over an hour making sure all of my measurements were perfect and it was exact. Then I drove that VW for 2 years and you could not see any of those cuts, and this Audi one is even more hidden. Pro's: - Very high quality and well made materials. - Assembly went smooth and easy. Just take your time and follow the instructions. (may have to guess at some things see CON below) Con's - Price (it is very expensive but very few options for this car) - The instructions had very clear and laid out instructions for the A4/S4 and A5/S5 with color codes and all. BUT when I began working on the car the instructions/photos did NOT match my 2011 S4. My car looked much more like the A6 and in some cases did not look like any of the photos or instructions. (example: the instructions to cut the back bumper for the A/S4 were completely wrong and mine looked just like the A/S6). - Several of the pieces came out of their protective cardboard in transit and scratched each other up.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

When installed on my 2016 Audi S5 Cabriolet it has only 6.5 inches of ground clearance and drags on the ground whenever you go down a curb or up an incline and that’s without any bike rack attached to the car. Once installed the hitch cannot be returned to etrailer. They should have a warning on their website indicating ground clearance may be an issue.

I needed a hitch to transport my ebikes, but have a BMW 328i Convertible, so I needed something that could fulfill the mission, without compromising on the grand looks of my car. I had even contemplated on purchasing another vehicle, but that seemed like a waste of money just to have a hitch for my bikes! Ugh! Well, let me tell you, the Stealth Hitch is perfect! And the staff there were very knowledgeable and went the extra mile in assisting me. If you’re in the market for a hitch, I would highly recommend that you consider the Stealth Hitch!

I bought this receiver hitch for my wife’s Porsche Macan so she could easily transport her bike. This is an excellent very well engineered product. The directions were detailed and clear, the fit was perfect and the receiver locking mechanism is very secure and elegant. I highly recommend this product.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

The hitch and installation more than exceeded my expectation, especially as my Volvo dealer said they couldn’t supply me with an OEM hitch. The installation went exactly as the video said it would. I was skeptical at first but not any more. Great quality hitch and and excellent idea of mounting behind the rear fender. The fact that the hitch itself is removable is a bonus. FYI the bottom of the hitch is about 10” from the ground when fitted and it extends about 2” from the rear so no issues with using my bike or cargo rack.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

I installed a StealthHitch on my Volvo XC90 this weekend and I am very happy with its fit and function. The installation wasn’t too hard overall but it was definitely tedious. Make sure to have a second set of hands to help with the removal and reinstall of the rear bumper.

The stealth hitch is worth the money spent. Easily detaches when not in use and does not affect the profile of the car. The process of setting up the free install with etrailer makes it even better.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

Decided to install the hitch myself after one installer quoted me $450 and another one quoted me $650. Using the supplied directions, I was able to knock it out in a little under 3 hours. Getting to the 5 screws in each wheel well would be easier if you remove the rear tires I have 20 inch wheels... and getting the bunker back on is a little scary too, but I managed.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

This was installed on a 2016 Mazda 3. Despite some reviews saying this was very difficult.. This went pretty smoothly (despite me dropping/retrieving a nut in the wheel well, which was the hardest part!). In short, the quality of this hitch is excellent and the installation took ~2 hours and was not difficult at all (Note: I am a gear head and pretty handy). The instructions provided are very clear/concise. But overall, this was worth the price and you would never know it was there when not in use. I have been using it for months now and have no regrets at all. This is a solid product and worth the cost/effort.

Shipping from etrailer is always extremely fast! I'm extremely happy with the product. I installed the stealth hitch myself. Its not too difficult to do, but isn't for the faint of heart. Honestly the hardest part was removing the bumper. If you are patient and have basic mechanical skill its really not that bad. Just slightly scary on a brand new car. I love that you can still put the plastic cover back on so its completely stock and no one has any idea the car has a hitch. Very excited to be able to put my bike rack on my Tesla!

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

I am not mechanically inclined but have a good friend who is. He reviewed the installation instructions and said he believed he could handle the job. Total time approximately 3 1/2 hours. The instructions were good and my friend had all of the necessary tools. The rack has received a lot of use, first hauling my lightweight racing bike and later a much heavier electric Trek Domane 5+ bike (40 lbs.). The rack is excellent and the only one I was able to find online.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

The 'hidden' concept of this hitch is excellent for high-end vehicles. I remove it from my Porsche from time to time when I know it won't be needed and you can't tell it has a hitch - no ugly receiver sticking out the rear-end. After one year I am beginning to see a little rust gathering around the base area where the hitch goes up into the receiver. I find this troubling and don't know how much worse it will get.

Thank you for your review. Your hitch receiver needs maintained every once and awhile to keep it looking great and working properly. I would sand any rust spots then cover with an anti-corrosive spray paint like Rustoleum. Here are more tips:

This is a great looking hitch solution with high quality components. Used on a sports coupe that I wanted to put a hitch mounted bike rack on and not see the hitch while not in use. Stealth Hitches seem to be the perfect solution!

This was my 1st time installing and it took a few hours. The passenger side 25mm torx screw was hard to get off and on from the Tesla. The kit is perfect and fits my 2021 Tesla Model 3 with no cutting. I did buy the separate black and orange plastic tool set, it made the job easier. I did use painters blue tape to prevent scratches. I did trim the small Rubber cap so I could out the removable black cover back on underneath when I am not usine the hidden hitch. Note older Teslas do not have the removable cover, so minor trimming of that cover will be required.

Super detailed and accurate instructions! The only correction I have is once you have it bolted it says to start from step 9 and back, it should be step 10! but it's obvious to anyone paying attention

Fantastic Buy. 1 year in and love it. Self install was a project (about 4 hrs taking my time) but worked great on my 2016 Macan S.

Review from a similar Hidden Rack Receiver in Trailer Hitch

This hitch is exactly what I was looking for for my F80 M3. The stealth design means it's there when I want to hook up my bike rack, and completely invisible otherwise. Taking the hitch on and off is a breeze, and I can say 1 year after install that it's worked perfectly every time. Etrailer also did the installation. The process, even with COVID protocals, was quick and easy. My install price was very fair and my car was well taken care of through the process. If I ever need another hitch, I'll be calling Etrailer. Thanks!

Very happy with both the rack and the experience with etrailer. Installation was fairly simple. Have the exterior styling kit and went on without a hitch. Get it?? Cut out of heat shield and fascia can be less than what's recommended I believe, but can determine what you need. For me I made a minimal cut and then finished cut after installing which was a bit more difficult, but worked.

Good design and build quality. The frame can be 100% hidden inside the rear bumper when the hitch is released. It gives you a perfect look of the car from rear end. The installation manual can be more detail and specific as it's per car model designed. I had to figure out a few areas myself, because I couldn't find the pictures in the manual, it took a lot of my time. I give it 5 stars. The only downside is it's a bit expensive.

  • Hitch Receiver for Bike Rack on 2018 Audi A5 Convertible
There are some great options for using a bike rack with your 2018 Audi A5 Convertible, but the Curt # C11448 is only meant for use with coupe or sportback models, so it is not compatible with your vehicle.
