Installing a trailer hitch can be a daunting task, but not with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver’s bolt-on design. Forget about complicated welding processes; this hitch bolts directly onto your vehicle’s frame. With the hardware and clear instructions included, even a DIY newbie can have it set up without a hitch.
Rust and corrosion can shorten the life of a trailer hitch, but the powder-coated steel build of this hitch addresses that. The gloss black finish over a protective base coat provides superior rust resistance, ensuring that it stands up to harsh weather and road conditions.
Finding a hitch that fits perfectly can be a challenge, but not with this custom-fit model. It's designed specifically for your vehicle, providing a snug and secure fit. This means better performance and less stress on both your hitch and vehicle frame.
Need to tow a heavy load? This Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver is up to the task with a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 6,000 lbs. When used with weight distribution, it can manage up to 7,500 lbs, providing peace of mind no matter what you’re hauling. Plus, with a 2-inch receiver opening, it’s compatible with a wide range of trailer types.
When it comes to towing, durability is key. The sturdy square-tube design of this hitch offers robust construction that can handle day-to-day use and heavy loads with ease. It’s a reliable choice for long-term towing adventures.
For those heavier trailers, this hitch can handle a tongue weight of 750 lbs, ensuring a stable and secure connection. This high tongue weight capacity helps to distribute the trailer’s weight better, reducing sway and improving handling during your travels.
Tech Tip
Hitch may block the spare tire release mechanism accessed from behind the rear tire. Modification to the mechanism would be needed to allow access to the spare tire release through the designed hole in the hitch. No drilling through vehicle frame required for installation , May be necessary to cut off a grounding bolt from the frame rail.
Excellent communication when order shipped. Perfect product as I expected. The instructions suck gor the hitch install from the manufacturer but the etrailer install video helped so much. Thank you!!!
The hole on the driver's side did not line up with the grounding stud and the hole on the passenger side did not line up with the mechanism for lowering the spare tire.
Easy to install if you follow the directions. We did receive one wrong bolt in the kit which etrailer took care of immediately. A little tricky fishing the bolts and plates in place. Make sure you get your whole rack up and above the leaf springs before trying to bolt anything on. Took us about 2 hours. LOL I could do it in under half an hour if I had to do it again. There was another rack we saw etrailer for the Promaster which required removing your bumper and had less capacity. I am so glad we bought this hitch.
The hitch has worked wonderfully on our Promaster during the last year and I'd highly recommend it and etrailer!

Great! No issues. Its perfect.
Quality of this tow hitch seems good. However, in the 2023 Ram Promaster high roof van (maybe others) there is a small screw that sticks out from frame that needs to be cut off before you are able to slide driver side of hitch up high enough to put in the long bolt that fits all the way through the frame (which secures the hitch to frame). This was unexpected and delayed install until I figure out what to do. Would have also liked to see a fitting on the hitch for my electrical plug in. But I am not sorry I bought this (unless van falls apart because I cut the screw off) it is solid and can hold 750 tong weight and "simple" to install.
Could not install. Bolt holes on the front match but others do not line up and there is a part on the driver side that interferes with the hitch sitting flush. Going to take it to local repair shop and have them modify the frame/hitch so it can be installed.
2018 Promaster 1500 118. I went with this one because of ease of installation. The hitch is fine and sturdy, the hardware is a little rough but no big deal. The van was the real problem, nothing fit the first time. The ground bolt by the exhaust had to be cut off, and all the frame holes had the anti rust coating in them, and flashing that had to be ground away for the bolts to fit. Make sure all holes are clear and cleaned before you start trying to lift the hitch.
Great Product and super fast shipping!
Super easy install. Instructions were very good.
While the hitch is of high quality, during and after installation we could not get the spare tire jack access hole on the hitch to align with the spare tire jack access assy.
Fast delivery and excellent communications.
Perfect fit on my 2017 Promaster.
Ram Promaster 1500 Perfect fit excellent welds and design. Take your time installing it. It is a tight fit but worth it in the end. Paint and welds are like new after towing 5,000 lb. trailer.I bought another brand before this one and sent it back due to lack of quality. I built my van into a high end camper and wanted the best components for the build. I am a yacht builder from Maine.

Fantastic No Rust From MI NE WINTER
Great hitch, super solid build. When installing, be sure to line up the spare tire lowering receiver into the hole on the hitch frame. I failed to and had to later remove the spare tire crank device so it was not hidden behind the hitch frame. This was my fifth hitch from etrailer. Price and shipping speed is always impressive. I have saved a substantial amount of money compared to having someone else install these.
I have the 2017 promaster 1500 135 and found that all the holes lines up including the spare tire crank 'socket'. With two person its much easier to get the rack into position and aligning the holes for bolts. Make sure you read the instruction carefully and pay attention to the installation video detail. We learned that the hard way, thought we have understanding them well. Don't mixed up the long and short bolts, the long bolt goes to the right with the towing ring. This rack is very strong and sturdy. We just came back from Outer Bank with a 6 hr trip one way with our 2 ebikes, (together with the Hollywood ebike rack)
This is a seriously beefy hitch. Impressed with construction and installation hardware.
I installed the hitch with intermittent help. I didn't time it but it took me multiple hours.
On my install the spare tire raising pin *did* end up lining up with the hole designed for it. However I'm glad I removed that part of the spare tire mechanism prior to install because it would have made positioning the hitch just that bit more difficult. I'm sure this whole process would be substantially easier on a lift and with two people full time but doing the whole process near the ground - even though I was able to raise the van a few inches on my jacks - was a PITA.
I'm also glad I removed the spare tire since that gave me much more room to work in.
Also, do yourself a favor and grind off that grounding bolt. Yeah, sure, it might theoretically fit but we could not finagle it in to position with the bolt in place. The bolt was difficult to get to because the exhaust was in the way. I was able to get my angle grinder in at only a single angle - which was enough to shave it down to about 1/16" without damaging the surrounding protective coating.
I concur with the shipping materials comments in the other reviews - I was very surprised it didn't arrive damaged (scrapes and dents). I'm sure our delivery guy was swearing - this puppy is heavy and unwieldy.
Oh, yeah, we also used a racing jack to help us get it in position - just so that we didn't have to carry the entire weight as we shifted it around.
All-in-all happy with the result. My recommendation - expect to make a day of it, get a friend to help and get as much as possible out of the way first.
Construction is high quality. Little bit tricky to install even with the videos. The little crank housing that lowers the spare tire is supposed to fit thru a hole in the side of the hitch. Yeah its impossible to line that up then get the holes to line up to bolt up the hitch. i took the crank housing off completely, finished the hitch install and made it tight, then cut and modified the bracket for the spare tire crank housing so it would fit easily thru the hole in the hitch. Similar thing on the opposite side.... there is a small factory grounding lug on the van, it too is supposed to slide thru a hole in the hitch. I couldn't get it to work. after wrestling with it for half an hour i took a sawzall and cut it off. Nothing was attached too it anyway. Hitch is very heavy duty. Works Well. I like how it attached with 6x grade 8 bolts both vertically, and horizontally bolted. This is super strong design as the load is spread over the tensile strength and and shear strength of all those bolts. Grade 8 1/2" bolts... your talking nearly 20,000lbs of strength PER bolt. The hitch aint going anywhere!
Fit and works great.
The Curt trailer hitch receiver was so easy to install on my Ram Promaster 1500 that I was sure I had missed something as it only took about 20 minutes to install. It looks great also.
The customer service and shipping are probably the best I have come across in dealing with any company.
Etrailer's installation video on this particular model of hitch that I purchased helped the process immensely. Total time to install on my 2015 Promaster van was 1 hr because I was solo. Maybe it would have taken 30 minutes if I had a helper. All the correct hardware was included and I am very pleased I went with Etrailer to purchase this tow hitch.
Very disappointed with the entire experience purchasing from etrailer. I wanted a hitch for a 2019 Ram Promaster 2500. I had read a review online that some builds in 2019 required modifications in order to fit the Curt hitch. I did not want to do ANY modification at all so I called etrailer to inquire if they were aware of this issue. They assured me that this hitch would fit my van with no drilling or modifications, so I placed my order.
When the hitch arrived I was surprised to see that it was not boxed, only wrapped in plastic. It was scratched and had some of the metal already exposed where the paint had been scrapped off. It looked "used" (see pics).
I called etrailer and they claimed it was UPS at fault and offered me a $10 credit to go buy paint and touch it up myself. $275 piece of hardware and that is your solution?
Rather than return an 80 pound hitch, I decided to install it. Halfway thru I came to find out that the "expert" at etrailer who advised that this would fit my year and model van was not so expert. The install required me to cut a grounding bolt (45 mins with a hacksaw). This is exactly what I had read online and shared with the etrailer rep when I called originally.
This company deals in commodity products that you can easily purchase elsewhere, which is what I strongly suggest.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I did reach out to Curt in regards to the grounding bolt that needed to be removed. It is not an issue that they were previously aware of.
Product is rock solid, fitment is great, ordering was easy, shipping time was correct. Downsides, packaging was pretty much destroyed and the excellent finish was chipped and or rubbed off some of the edges and corners. I decided or just install it anyway, consoling myself that I have a working vehicle and that no one would likely notice minor damage up underneath

Still rock solid and I don’t expect that to change. Your company has a large []ion reliable products, I expect we will do business again. Thanks again.
Overall super solid construction, very straight forward installation (although a bit challenging for a single person), fit perfectly, with the exception of that small horizontal nut/bolt coming off the inside of the drivers-side frame, which prevented that side of the hitch from aligning with the factory holes...wish I predicted this BEFORE wrestling the hitch into place, such that I had to gingerly remove the nut and cut the bolt using a Multi-Max tool....otherwise the install would have been like butter. Also not terribly happy with how etrailer shipped this, just wrapping it up in thick poly.
I found the installation a little difficulted, because there was what appeared to be a grounding bolt on the inside of the frame that is not mentioned in the instructions but came that way from the factory. So after struggling with the hitch trying to make it fit, I took a air chisel and cut it off. after that the install was fairly simple.
Directions didn’t cover the nut and bolt protruding on drivers side that would need to fit precisely in the hitch in provided hole. Directions are low quality black and white with photos that are difficult to see. The install is really simple otherwise just cumbersome due to its weight. This is a well thought out product that is very sturdy!
NOT A BAD INSTALL. 2 THINGS THE GROUNDING BOLT NEEDS REMOVED WITH THE CURRENT WHOLE SIZE IN HITCH AND 2ND THE HOLE IN HITCH FOR THE WHEEL CRANKDOWN NEEDS TO BE MUCH LARGER. I BOUGHT 3 HITCHES AND ALL 3 HAD ISSUES ON INSTALL. MY SPACE BLOCK was not drilled out for the bolt to pass through. So i had a 5 hour install to fix theses items. Curt fixes this and i stall videos wont look so fake

Hi Robert, because of their size and shape, sometimes the trailer hitches get flexed during transport to you. I'll link an article below that describes how to fix this. Please let me know how it works for you.
