Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2009 Nissan Murano - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2009 Nissan Murano we will be installing the Draw-Tite trailer hitch, part number 75647. I'll give you a couple of measurements to help you pick out accessories, like wall mounts, cargo carriers, and bike racks. From the top of the receive tube to the ground, there is about 12 3/4 inches, and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer edge of the bumper is about 5 1/2 inches. Now, let's go see how it's installed. To begin the installation, we'll start by removing the three exhaust hangers at the rear of the vehicle. Now to remove the hangers, the first thing we will need to do, spray them down with some spray lubricant. With those sprayed down, we can take a pry bar and pop the exhaust hanger out of place.

Now that the exhaust is loose, we have to remove this rear tow hook, and to remove that we have four bolts that we'll need to remove. Those two and these two bolts up here. Now that everything is out of the way, I'll go and show you the attachment points for the hitch. This hole here, closer to the exhaust, there, the one on the back by the exhaust hanger. Now the mounting points on the passenger side are just a little bit different. We will have two on this vehicle.

Well, this one in the front, nearest to the exhaust, and this other well nut back here by the exhaust hanger. Now before mounting our hitch, we're going to go back to those mounting holes, spray some spray lubricant in there and clean them out. We'll use a tube brush. This is also available on our website. It is part number 814092. Once we clear that one of all the dirt and debris and road grime that might be built up on those threads, well continue to the other four mounting locations and we'll repeat that process. Now with that cleaned out, we'll check our threads.

Make sure the bolt goes in easily, and doesn't catch or cross thread. That one looks good. So we'll continue to the other four and repeat that process. This is the hardware we will be using to install our hitch. Its the bolt and a conical tooth washer.

When we put the washer in place, we want to make sure that these teeth face up towards the hitch. We'll use that for four of our mounting locations. On the fifth mounting location, which is the one closest to the driver side, we'll use the smaller bolt and the smaller conical tooth washer. The same process, just make sure the teeth on the washer face up towards the hitch. Now, before we put our hitch into place, we'll have to remove these two push fasteners, and allow our rear facer to swing out a little bit, to gain clearance. Now to remove the fasteners, take a flathead screwdriver, slide the center pin out, and the fastener releases. All right, this one helps to have extra set of hands to help lift the hitch in place. We'll start over on the passenger side. We'll lift the bracket up above the exhaust. Now, this mounting location right here is the one where we're going to use that smaller bolt. Now that the hitch is in place and the hardware is then hand tightened, we'll go ahead and take our impact wrench and tighten it down. Now with all the bolts tightened down, we need to torque them to the recommended amount in the instructions. Now that we have the hitch on the car, and torqued to the recommended specifications, we need to re-secure our exhaust hangers. Now, we'll go back to the rear valance taps where we removed the push pin fasteners earlier, we'll use a zip tie included with the hitch to secure those taps in place. Now the zip tied in place, go ahead and cut off the excess. And that concludes today's installation of the Draw-Tite trailer hitch, part number 75647 on our 2009 Nissan Murano. .

Excellent Service, Excellent ProductI ordered my Hidden Hitch for my 2010 Nissan Murano from etrailer.com on Sunday evening 1/2/11. I chose standard delivery for this purchase which was no charge. Early Monday I was notified that my order was being shipped earlier than promise and that my shipping was upgraded to arrive earlier than promised. I decided on Monday that I wanted a bracket kit to mount the trailer light plug and placed that order. I was immediately notified that my order would ship that day. On Thursday 1/5 I received both items. The Hidden hitch is an awesome fit on the Murano and is totally hidden behind the bumper fascia. The only part of it that is exposed is the receiver itself which hangs just below the fascia. This is exactly what I was looking for as I did not want to see the hitch bar hanging below the back of my vehicle. I highly recommend etrailer.com for both value and efficiency and I highly recommend the Hidden Hitch brand. The hitch came delivered in a box with protective wrapping to prevent damage during shipping. It is quality constructed, appears very durable and I installed it in about 40 minutes.

Hitch looks great. Took awhile to install, only because it was difficult to take the muffler from the down off the hangers. If I had a hydraulic lift like the video it would have been easier. Seeing as the hitch is on my wife's SUV, having a hidden hitch is great. She likes it because you can only see the tongue, not the whole crossbar underneath. I like it because now I have a hitch to tow things with. Win Win...

One issue, only 3 of 5 bolt holes lined up. The arms of the mounting points were about 1.5" too narrow. Race jack, 2x4, 2 people steadying it, and we expanded the arms out just right. Hidden Hitch needs to check their jig? (2010 Nissan Murano application)

After that, awesome.

Agree with those saying you don't need to drop muffler, just a little adjusting to get it by.

Video is pretty good, not much to the install really.

I maybe should have grabbed the nylon brush to clean the bolt holes on the car, they were quite mucked up on mine. Ended up using dental tool to pick threads clean.

The hitch was delivered on time, (I got free delivery but paid a little for express delivery because I needed it sooner). Everything was in good condition. The instructions were OK, The problem I had was the instructions say to disconect the muffler rubber mounts to lower the muffler. I could not do this, I called customer assistance, who are great, and was E-mailed a video link, but also learned that I did not have to lower the muffler. It just took some jockying to figure out how to fit the hitch in around the muffler. It was not that hard if you know it will fit. The instructions make you think you HAVE to drop the muffler. You don't. The job took less than 2 hrs and that included trying to remove the rubber hangers and the call to customer service. I didn't think that was too bad. I did not have to jack up the car, I did it on the floor of the garage. I did use a small floor jack to hold the hitch in place while threading in the bolts ( I'm 63 and not as limber as I used to be ). The Hitch looks great, I got the hidden hitch rubber end plug to finish it off and I am very happy with the results.
I recommend that in the instructions you let home installers know they don't have to drop the muffler. If I would have known that from the begining it would have saved a lot of time and frustration.
Thank you for a good product at a good price and good customer service. You were recommended by my cousin who bought a hitch from you a couple of years ago. I would recommend you also.

I ordered this hitch for my wife's Murano. We currently don't have a need for it but I am looking at purchasing a camper in the near future so I wanted to be prepared. The install took a little longer than expected. Most of it was in just prepping the vehicle for the hitch. Removing the nuts from the valence panel was a pain. The studs were too long for a short socket and my deepwell socket was too long for the space so I had to use an end wrench until it was off far enough to use the socket. Once the valence panel and tow hook was out of the way I was able to position the hitch without dropping the muffler from the hangers. I used a pair of jack stands to hold it in place while I attempted to put the bolts in but they would thread into the holes. At first I figured I had received the wrong size bolts so I dropped the hitch out of the way so I could see the holes better. Come to find out, they were corroded. The threads needed to be cleaned up so I grabbed my tap and die set only to find out I didn't have the right size thread count tap so off to the hardware store to get a new tap. Got the threads cleaned up and made sure the bolts fit and I was ready to hang the hitch. The only slight problem I had was the hitch was bowed a little bit so I had to flex it a little to get the last bolt in. Tighten all the bolts up and it looks great. I really like how it is all hidden behind the fascia except for the receiver portion. This is my second Hidden Hitch as I bought one several years ago for my Honda Fit to haul our bikes. You can't go wrong with them. I also bought a wiring harness but haven't installed it yet.

87486 Hidden Hitch was delivered quickly and fit my 2013 Murano perfectly. Did not have access to a lift but had no problem using floor jacks. Watch the etrailer video, it gives precise step by step directions. I would recommend this product and etrailer!

I am very happy with my hidden hitch so far. I bought this for my 2014 Nissan Murano and just as the other reviewers said, this fit perfectly.

It seems to be better than the Class II hitch that Nissan offers at less than half the cost. I ended up installing it without having to remove the muffler and it took me about an hour to do the work. The only real tricky part was getting the tow bracket off without removing the muffler. This was solved pretty easily with a good socket extender and a piece of conduit for extra torque.

Shipping was fast and everything that I needed, mounting hardware and instructions came with the product. Just a great buy.

Well Mike hidden hitch (your recommendation over a curt hitch) is great. I then ordered a Thule helium aero aluminum bike rack. It took sometime but finally complete. Now it's true I only did put one bike on the rack; and so far rode only a short distance with bike on back; however, seemed great. So happy I paid extra money for aluminum. I am a 58 year old women and was able to put on and off by myself. Thanks for all your help. I'm sending three pictures. E-TRAILER IS GREAT!

I purchased the Class 111 2" Hidden Hitch for my 2013 Nissan Murano, the hitch was delivered on time in a secured cardboard box and in perfect condition. I received email confirmation right way and additional notification when the product was shipped and tracking information. I found what I wanted on Etrailer website after comparing different products on other sites. After reading some reviews, I was able to install the hitch without lowering the muffler it fit perfect. What, I like about the hitch it is totally hidden behind the bumper fascia the receiver is the only thing visible. The finish products works and looks great; I would recommend this site and equipment to anyone who needs a hitch, a very satisfied customer.

  • Diagnosing Trailer Wiring Issues with a Draw-Tite Circuit Tester
It sounds like you're having issues with your trailer lights working but your connector at the vehicle is getting power. You should start with your ground to ensure it has a solid connection to a clean section of your trailers frame or piece of metal if your trailer is aluminum. Make sure there is no corrosion, rust, dirt, or paint between the ground and the attachment point. If your ground is good and you're still having issues I recommend using a circuit tester like item # PTW2992....
