Came today. Easy installation, less than an hour. I did it myself but would be easier with a second set of hands. Exhaust hangers were hard to get off, (I don't have the removal pliers) but lube helped.

We needed a hitch receiver for my wife's 2019 Mazda CX-9 and Etrailer provided the perfect product. It arrived sooner than expected and was much more heavy duty than we anticipated. We recently used it to tow a small boat over a thousand miles and didn't have a single issue. The boat, motor, trailer combo weighs about 800lbs. I would recommend having a mechanic do the work since you really need an automotive lift to get at the undercarriage of the vehicle. Also, don't forget to research trailer light wiring if your vehicle does not come equipped with a plug on or near the bumper. Overall, we are VERY pleased with our new hitch receiver!

Great experience and resources. From the web site confirming correct trailer hitch, to "How To" videos, very smooth process. Delivery was really quick. Had my friend help out, he didn't see the videos and got the mounting plate "stuck" inside the channel, but I was able to rescue it and then get the hitch mounted correctly. Friend was really impressed with the manufacturing and how well it was designed. Also got the Wiring Harness (ignore the Toyota First Aid Kit in the Wiring Picture) and installed just in case I will need to use a trailer with lighting on it. Currently will use the hitch to transport bikes.
Well Done!

Still working Great! Used it for a Bike Rack, no issues. Have relocated to Tennessee and will be using it to tow a small trailer for hauling items.

Excellent product and easy to install! I decided not to wait for my wife to get home, but lifted the hitch on some 2x scrap I had. I didn't realize you supplied the pull wires, but they helped immensely!
The completed hitch doesn't stick out beyond the bumper! Nice!!!

etrailer is the place to shop because their products are top notch quality and they ship fast! Installation of Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Class III - 2" on my 2019 Mazda CX9 was super simple thanks to etrailer's step by step instructional videos.

by:

I put it by myself on my 17 cx9. Great product, sturdy, tough and nice looking. Easy to install and after a year it is still properly attached and no issues. I use it only to hold bike racks and never on real hitching. Nevertheless, great product!

I purchased a CURT Trailer Hitch 13284 Trailer Hitch about a year ago for my Mazda CX-9, and I have been extremely pleased with the results.

by:

Calls for 2 man installation, I did it myself with a floor jack and jack stands. Raised the back a few inches, then lowered the exhaust onto a jack stand, maybe 4-6 inches. Then used another hydraulic jack to hold Hitch in place while I secured nuts. Probably easier than using a lift.

by:

I was very please with how easy this bolted on. The instructions would have been enough but there was a video online that showed how to install making it an easy project. An extra set of hands or two would help bolting on the hitch, but after that, one person is all you need. The hitch reciever feels well made and this item was delivered promptly and price was unbeatable. The company has great customer service. I highly recommend!

Thank you etrailer.com!

Installation was a breeze, I took my time and still was done in less than an hour! With the wire supplied for fishing the bolts through it was so easy my kids could have installed it!!

Tracking was great. New exactly where it was in the process and shipped out the same day I ordered. Received quickly. Was able to install myself without too much trouble.

I appreciated the quick response to my order and also a fast reply to a question I had. The item arrived exactly when they said and was in perfect condition.

After a year of use, So far so good. I like that it came with the right hardware to do the install. You definitely need a second person to install.

by:

In my opinion etrailer has very little room for improvement. This is my first purchase, it couldn't have gone any smoother. My representative answered all my questions prior to ordering. The installation videos are great.

BE PREPARED This is definitely not an easy, straightforward installation. Pictures on direction sheets are useless, and the text isn’t much better. After 2 hours and a lot of cursing, the hitch is on. Fortunately, I won’t be towing anything, as it’s only for a bike rack. I can’t even fathom trying to mess with wiring up lights!!!
The hitch itself seems solid, it’s just not an easy install.
Live and learn... I will never buy another hitch and attempt installing myself. Car will come from the dealer already installed!!!

by:
2021 MazdaCX-9

Took Auto F/X approximately 1 hour to install the hitch. Looks great on our 2021 Mazda CX-9.

by:

Fits just as shown easy 1 hour install. Would highly recommended this to anything looking to install a hitch

by:
2018 MazdaCX-9

The trailer hitch arrived on time which was a great start. To build upon the start, the packaging was adequate to protect contents. Directions provided were similar to those found online, which was very helpful. Supplementing the paper directions was the video tailored for the same vehicle as mine (Mazda CX-9). I highly recommend this trailer hitch!! Install took 40 minutes.

Tips for other 2018 CX-9 owners (1) the plastic piece in the first step (which the video doesn't cover) has a pinch style clip holding the piece in place once the 10mm bolts are removed. (2) lower the exhaust by only about 4 to 6" max and then when installing the hitch it can be tested on the lowered exhaust, making it much easier to start the nuts on the bolts (3) use lubricant on the exhaust rubber mounts but use sparingly. I used enough to make the removal easy by hand but yet not so lubricated that replacement was so slick as to slide off once mounted while trying to replace another mount.

I didn't take a picture since there was nothing to add beyond the video and paper directions. Hope this helps someone!

Buick Enclave

I purchased and installed primarily for a carryall for luggage. But recently purchased a utility trailer and it works great! Second hitch receiver I purchased for both of my vehicles. Buick Enclave and a 2020 Mazda CX-9.

  • Does the Curt C13284 Hitch Fit a 2023 Mazda CX-9?
According to Curt the Item # C13284 hitch you were looking at stopped fitting the CX-9's after the 2022 model year. The correct hitch for your 2023 Mazda CX-9 is the Draw-Tite item # 76020. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Mazda with included hardware. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It has a 4,500 lbs towing capacity and a 675 lbs maximum tongue weight. This hitch can be used with weight distribution systems but that will not increase its capacity. I have linked...

With the class III receiver like the Curt # C13284 on your 2021 Mazda CX-9 I recommend the Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier # FHG69ZR. You will need to ensure the weight of the carrier(77lbs) and your chair do not exceed the capacity of your CX-9 or your receiver. If you can tell me exactly what receiver you have I can verify the weight capacity for it. The Flint Hill Goods 29" x 49" Carrier # FHG69ZR is capable of supporting up to 500lbs. Its aluminum construction makes it light weight...

Both of the 2 inch hitches we offer for your 2018 Mazda CX-9 will have their hitch opening below the rear bumper of the vehicle. The better option is the Draw Tite part # 76020 over the Curt part # C13284 as the Draw Tite has a better price, slightly higher towing capacities, and a built in trailer wiring bracket. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you'd want the # 119250KIT. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer...

It looks like the second generation for the Mazda CX-9 began in 2016 and continues through the current model. The changes to the rear frame and bumper on the new generation were enough to require a new trailer hitch for it to fit properly. As you suspected, you will need to obtain a new hitch for your 2018 Mazda CX-9 and I recommend the Curt Hitch Receiver # C13284. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation....

I recommend using the Curt Easy Mount Bracket for 4- or 5-Way Flat and 6- or 7-Way Trailer Connectors # C58000 for attaching a 7-way plug onto your 2021 Mazda CX-9. The bracket will mount to the face of the receiver on the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13284.
