Videos are provided As a guide only. Refer To manufacturer
installation instructions And specs For complete information.
Today on our 2010 Mazda CX9, were going to be installing the Curt Hitch, part number 13575. This is what our hitch will look like once its installed. Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4-3/4 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 12-3/4 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now, lets go ahead with the installation. First, well go ahead and point out our attachment points. Theres a total of eight attachment points, four on each side. Each one of these attachment points is a well nut, pre-manufactured in the frame. Before we try to install our new hardware, were going to go ahead and clean out each one of these attachment points.
First, well spray each attachment point down with some spray lubricant and then were going to use a 1/2-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092, to thoroughly clean the threads out of each one of the well nuts. This will ensure that our hardware will go all the way in nice and easily. Now with each one of our attachment points cleaned out, well go ahead and get an extra set of hands to help us install the hitch. We will use the new bolt and conical toothed washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. Well go ahead and thread each one of the fasteners in hand tight until we have them all in place.
Each process we do here on the drivers side is going to get repeated identically on the passengers side. Now, were ready to go ahead and tighten them down. With all our attachment points tightened down, well go ahead and torque to specifications as indicated in the instructions. Now, with all our fasteners torqued to specifications, that will complete the install of our Curt Hitch, part number 13575, on our 2010 Mazda CX9.

Not much you can say, fits great, I would not hesitate to purchase again. I read about many folks complaining about how hard it was to get the receiver around the heat shields. I was able to easily do it without raising car, you just have to study it for a second. You stick the backend up first and then rotate it in place by bringing the working end up to position. A bit more direction in the box would have been helpful but not required. Like which side of the odd washers that they use face the bolt head. I remember etrailer mentioning something in the video I watched before buying but I didn't want to waste my time to clean up and go back to the house and find the install video. On my 2013 CX-9 the back of the hitch makes it so the spare tire won't go in place without holding the tire at an angle as you crank it past the hitch...hold the side of the tire closest to the rear of the car higher. The attached pictures also show the bike rack I bought here as well, attached to the new receiver on the back of 2013 CX-9. Seems I can't get in to see previous orders to get the bike rack info or write a review on it. 216724

This was not an overly difficult installation. Get the back of the car up off of the ground (safely), I used ramps for extra clearance. Next, remove the spare altogether, it just makes life significantly easier. Once that is done, it is a matter of wrestling the hitch up in between the frame rails. Clearance is tight, and you will temporarily distort the heat-shields around the mufflers. Once you do get it in place, thread in a single bolt by hand on each side and it will no longer need to be held in place. I do recommend a helper for this portion, but it can done solo. I am 5'5" - 160 and stubborn as can be, so I refused to use a helper. Make sure the conical/toothed washers are tooth-side against the hitch when tightening. Also getting proper torque values on one side is impossible due to an electronic module in place. If you wind up using a wrench, be prepared to exert significant force on final torque. Lastly, the spare will not want to clear when you reinstall. I was able to muscle it up into place, but it was a fight. It fits, but if you ever need to get the spare down on the side of the road, be prepared to either deflate it first (get a portable air compressor) or to fight it. My final thought: Really, this is more of a car issue; the rear view camera will not show the trailer ball when you back up ( my old KIA did). So be prepared for a little extra time there on connection. Overall, an easy if not physical installation. 204052
5 stars for the etrailer site. The product descriptions, tutorial videos and customer ratings are the best I have seen. The install video saved me a lot of time. The trailer hitch for my 2007 CX-9 was a little time consuming for a one person installation. REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE to give yourself as much access as possible. After spraying WD40 in the well nuts and cleaning them out, I was able to position the hitch and get a bolt started on each side. To make my life easier, I used the car jack and a 2X4 to hold the hitch in position to get the rest of the bolts started. I used a ratchet to tighten each bolt and finished with the torque wrench. My only issue was that I needed an open end wrench to tighten 2 of the bolts on the driver side next to spare tire cable carrier housing (see photo) to create the clearance to get the torque wrench on those bolts. I'm very happy with the hitch and etrailer, I have already placed another order for more accessories. 263214

Was able to install in less than 30 minutes, with a good ratchet and socket set. The initial 'getting hitch into position' was a little of a geometry problem. We had to turn it upside down and come into slot around the spare tire just right, kinda tricky, but doable. Great product, would highly recommend thus company. 86506

I purchase two different products and installed both, back to back. I did used a jack to lift one side, so it took about 45 minutes to finesse this one into/onto my Mazda CX-9. I needed a helper (wife) which made it much easier. This is for a bike rack. Ordered Friday and delivered Monday, fast, fast. Thank you. 229879

This is for customer service and shipping only. I will review the installation after I get it done after Christmas. The hitch was shipped in a very strong box with internal bracing to protect the contents. The harness and hardware kits were taped to the hitch and arrived in very good condition. Overall service from first question to actual order and delivery were excellent. I will use this company for these thing in the future. thanks for the great service. 109678

Well designed, well made, and a perfect fit for my 2008 CX-9. I removed the spare tire to give myself as much clearance as possible, and I would recommend that if you cannot get your car up on a hydraulic lift. (I also suggest you get a second person to help, unless you are as stubborn and determined as me!) I am 5'7", weight 130lbs, but I completely installed this myself with the car on the ground. As others have noted, the heat shield on each muffler needs to be bent out of the way, but after installation they very easily bend back into shape. Nice trailer hitch, nice price, easy installation. Slam dunk. 141455
So my husband and I wanted to get a hitch installed on our 2015 Mazda CX-9. We looked around at different places and even asked the Mazda dealer, they quoted us an astronomical amount. After calling a few other places we were completely discouraged. So I got on youtube and searched how to install a hitch. Etrailer had a video on how to install a hitch for our vehicle. On their video they even gave the part number and gave step by step advice. I was convinced that my husband and I could put the hitch on ourselves. So we ordered a hitch and received it in a timply manner. It took my husband and I a total time of 30 to 40 minutes to put it on. Thank you Etrailer for the video and a great product. You helped our family save a great deal of money! 270404

Great product, fast delivery. Was installed in 30 minutes, which included jacking up the car and removing the spare tire to access the installation points. 125708

Quality substantial product. Installation was simple. Two keys. One remove the spare tired to get more room to work. Two stand it so the bracket points up. Then you can push it up from behind the exhaust and spin it into place 95439
The hitch fit my 2014 mazda cx-9 perfectly. 8 bolts is all it took to install. It took me about an hour and I did it myself. It would be easier if you had an extra hand to hold it while the bolts get started. 211967

The hitch arrived in only two days. The etrailer folks are terrific. I ordered two hitches, one for my Jeep (reviewed separately) and one for this Mazda application. The Jeep installation was by far the easiest. Even with my son helping out, we had difficulty getting the hitch past the heat shields on each side and into position. In fact, we could not get it in with the car wheels on the ground. We finally backed it up on ramps (raising it 12-15") which gave us enough clearance to slide the hitch in. With more patience (which we didn't have) we may have been able to do it from the ground, but I'm not so sure you won't need some kind of way to raise the back end. The Mazda had factory welded nuts in place, so it was easy after that. Eventually, a good result. 53226
Installation was as described. I was able to do it by myself in the pre-dawn hours with a headlamp. True, you have to manipulate the heat shield, but that was no big deal. 156066
Great product delivery was quick. Easy to install fit like a glove 139097

My only complaint is the instructions. First it was hard to get put in place because of the tight fit, which I know was necessary, but maybe some suggestions on the angle or such. Then it said to finger tighten the bolts....you really don't want to do this until you have all the bolts just barely threaded in...finger tightened, had to untighten, it was a frustrating 1 1/2 hours as there is not much play in how the bolts go in (which again I understand, just don't finger tighten until they are all in). Haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it will be fine. 202087
Perfect fit as advertised for my mazda cx9. Installation was easy even by myself. Order was fast and came before I expected. Great product. 19904

I've installed a lot of aftermarket car parts and more times than not I am frustrated by the sloppy fit and poor alignment of the part, but not this time. My 15 yr old daughter and I were able to quickly and easily install the hitch in about 30 min. Most of that time was spent in getting the car ready, up on blocks so we had more room to work, removing the spare time, etc. The actual hitch install only took about 10 min. The quality of and finish of the unit is very good and overall I am very happy with this product. 230459
Product came fast and service from etrailer was great. Unfortunately install was not so easy. No sure if it was the hitch or the vehicle frame, but it took me nearly an hour and a good rubber mallet with a wedge to get the hitch to fit into place. I was thinking it would slide right into place, but it was so tight I had to bang on it and wedge it up there. Lowering the spare tire did help a bit, but only to give me a bit more room to work. Eventually I got it up and installed....2 hours later. 146289
The receiver arrived in a large cardboard box. Right off the bat I see the brackets poked two holes through the box. I opened and there were some scratches and cosmetic damage to the arms from shipping. I proceeded to check the welding and it looks decent but the manufacture could have done a better job. The paint looks to be powder coated and looks pretty durable. I have not installed it yet so I can't comment on that but overall I would give this product a 4/5. 157621

I'll admit that I was skeptical about installing a hitch by myself. This is the first vehicle I've owned where it was a possibility. It would have been easier if my car was lifted for the installation but I managed just fine. It took about 20 minutes to install. Most of that was tightening the bolts. One bolt in particular gave me grief but that was due to a tighter space on the passenger side. Overall it was pretty easy and I am by no means mechanical in nature. 98886

Great hitch and installation was fairly easy. I did it by myself without lifting the car. Not that I would recommend that method for everyone. A lift would have made it easier. My only problem encountered was that my bolt holes in the frame were rusted pretty badly. The car is a 2009 so it was not the fault of the product. It took a fair amount of spray lubricant and muscle to get them in. Otherwise the installation is flawless in a 2009 Mazda CX9. 127967
by: Robert S.07/12/2012
The Curt Hitch fit without problems. No need to remove the spare tire or cut the heat shields as some have suggested. All bolts went in without problem is you left the bolts loose until all bolts were started. A little difficult to torque the bolts due to lack of sufficient space... but a articulated adaptor solved that issue. Total install time: 40 minutes. Ill try to get some pictures taken if I get time this week. 47658

Super fast shipping and an easy install over all. I didn't even lift the car at all. Instructions and video were helpful for certain One thing I encountered was that the clearance between the bolt and spare tire lifting mechanism (on a Mazda CX-9) was not sufficient for my torque wrench to fit. Simple enough, I dropped the donut spare and removed the lift mechanism and finished the install; added maybe 10 minutes 214248

Curt Class III 2" hitch was ordered for my 08 Mazda CX9. Product seemed to be of good build quality and installation seemed straightforward, except the 4 holes on the passenger side did not all line up well. Driver's side was fine. I ended up bolting up the 3 larger M12 bolts and leaving out the smaller M8 bolt, as that hole on the hitch did not line up w/ the weldnut and I was unable to thread it in. 262628

Just wanted to let you know the hitch arrived on time. Opened the package, checked the contents and then began the installtion. Use a jack to raise the vehicle for more room. What a snap for an 84 year old tinkerer. My daughter held one side up while I installed the bolts. Used wrenches to tighten so no space problems for a wratchet. Could not ask for an easier installation.Great Product! 91312
I rarely respond to these customer surveys, but I have been overly impressed with the customer service and quick deliver of etrailer. Ordered late Saturday, on my porch on Tuesday using standard (free) delivery. Received exactly the hitch I wanted for my CX-9 at the best price on the net. No worries about pulling my bros fishing boat on vacation next week!!! Thanks 20985

Great product. 30 minutes install..solo. definitely would help if you took the spare off. I didn't but if anyone wanted to. Smaller bolts gave me problem initially but once got them started, it was smooth. A good cleaning of the holes highly recommended. Haven't tried out the hitch yet. Installed mainly for a bike rack. Thanks etrailer. 204098

I can't say much about the hitch yet. It was installed easily. I watched the video put up by the site. I didn't have the problems getting the hitch up into place. I had two pairs of hands the hitch slid easily in place. I haven't used my hitch yet though. I'm still waiting to see what new bike rack I want to use in conjunction with the hitch. 237612
2011 Mazda CX-9. Perfect fit, leading to a really easy installation. Although I must admit I see it as two person job, simply to keep the alignment straight as you're threading the bolts. And it is not (at all) necessary to take down the spare tire. This trailer hitch is well made, and came well packaged. All in all, a great value here. 205880

Mazda CX9 Trailer Hitch Install Installed very easily. A little tight going in but that's not a bad thing. The only real issue I ran into were the two rear passenger side bolts. The hoist mechanism for the spare tire is in the way and prevented the use of a ratchet or torque wrench without a universal joint. Thankfully I have one. 4371

Worked great! Pretty easy to install, did it while on a trip so I didn't have all of the tools I normally would but still no issues just a little more time. Installed it in the morning, picked up the uhall trailer in the afternoon, loaded it up that evening, and drove 1700 miles on it over the next 2 days without issue. 260879

This is a great product!!! It was a direct bolt on, no cutting or welding. I was was able to install it on my Mazda CX-9 easily in my garage with no lifts or power tools. I don't do any towing but I use it for my multiple bike rack which requires the hitch to install it. I highly recommend etrailer.com!! 349622

Everything was great, except we did see to dings( scratches) on the hitch, was going to call to see if we could get paint- to touch us so it doesn't rust. Site was easy to order, products arrived quickly-would definitely order again as well recommend you to friends. ~thank you 196511

I received the trailer hitch a few days earlier than expected, which was great. The hitch fit perfectly. All necessary hardware was included. Took less than 20 minutes to install. Price was lower than competitive and the quality was as expected. Would recommend it to anyone. 209814

Product arrived earlier than anticipated, but an extra set of hands for installation is not recommended -- it is necessary. Have no idea how one would do this alone, but a neighbor and his son assisted in getting this on in about 30 minutes. Quality construction. 53335
First time using etrailer.com, was very happy with the fast shipping and the hitch was a perfect fit. Everything I needed was included and the instructions were easy to understand. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for the right fit at a good price. 155155
Hitch looks great. I installed by myself so it was a little challenging. The heat shields by the mufflers made it a little tricky. Also, having a low profile socket wrench is a must for the passenger side on a 2011 CX-9. Other than that, it's great. 209146
For Mazda CX-9 and e-trailer supplies excellent reviews, tips and what to expect for installation. Tight fit and had to use some leverage with car jack and combination of wrenches to tighten the bolts. Success and works great for bike rack. 248623
Great hitch, didn't have to remove anything slid right and in place, bolts were provided and install took about 10 mins, I did have a lift but could have done with out easily but dirty back and all.. Arrived on time, and undamaged and was easy. 199167

It is a great product and the installation only took ten minutes. The service was great. There was a question about the delivery address, and instead of just an email, they also called to clarify. I will recommend this company to my friends. 242458

the hitch fit perfect to the suv without any modification. however it did not come with an electrical connection so that will have to be ordered seperately. even the mechanics at mazda thought they were going to have to modify the bumper. 156307

For my Mazda Cx-9, took about 15 min total to install. Simple and easy directions. Looks great. Couldn't fit a rachet on one side, needed a regular wrench, but still only took 15 min. Would recommend etrailer again. 32130

Excellent price hitch receiver, it took me longer than the estimated time only due to tight quarters. If I had a lift I would have had it in quickly. Free shipping, you cant beat that. Thank you E Trailer. 145208
Excellent service before the sale. Very happy with the quality and the fit on my Mazda CX 9. Installation was simple with the online video guide. I would highly recommend to any do it yourselfer. 273090
