Rugged, Matte Black Finish

The sturdy steel construction is protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This unique powder coating gives etrailer hitches a carbide-like appearance and a rugged look that sets them apart from traditional glossy hitches. In addition to being rust and corrosion resistant, the tough matte coating hides dirt, scuffs, and dings better than a glossy finish.

Purchased for my daughter / son-in-law's 2014 Maxda CX5 as they like to camp, have dogs and are always cramped for space. It's great for use with a hitch mounted cargo carrier or hitch mounted bike rack. Product arrived undamaged (though corner of hitch assembly was protruding from the box...a stronger box or a hard liner for the box would be better). It took my son-in-law and I about 2 hours to install; we took our time. Watching the install video is important and I recommend thoroughly reading instructions and ensuring a good understanding of the process (ex: understanding "teeth on the washers" is an easily missed detail that can be understood too late). I needed my SIL's set of hands to help hold the hitch assembly as it came time to bolt it to the frame. All else can be a one-person job. We jacked the car up about 15-inches and that helped with installation...but you could install without jacking the car. Overall, very pleased with the product, the accurate instructions and the relative ease of installation. It sounds a little more difficult than it is!

Rick, I love your photo. What a sweet thing to do for your daughter and son-in-law. What kind of dogs do they have? I have a small shi-poo (shih tzu poodle mix) so I don't have to worry about space as much when traveling. They are definitely going to need a cargo carrier for all their camping gear. I am happy to make a recommendation if you want.

The product arrived ahead of time.

It
came packaged properly and with all the materials included.

The dealer wanted to charge $[XX] dollar for the hitch + $[XX] to install it.

It was installed within an hour and I saved $[XX]

It has been better than expected!!! It was worth what I paid for it and $800 less than what the dealer wanted to charge for it!!

Great fit and easy to install hitch , the first eTrailer installation video is very helpful.

by:
2024MazdaCX-5

This is a strange review to write. The hitch, itself, is top notch. A five star unit. That said, the package arrived with the hitch broken through the packing in 3 places. Because of that, it was missing some hardware, a problem I didn't see until my vehicle was on stands with the exhaust dangling. Very frustrating and cost two stars. Packaging needs to be improved.

by:

This receiver is only used for a ski rack and it has functioned well as such. The installation was a little more involved than other receivers I've installed but this was due to the vehicle is a compact SUV. After getting one side done the other was much faster and I learned some techniques for future work. My recollection was that the video or pics were a great help.

Great...I only use the hitch for attaching a skisnowboard rack.

For all of you driveway mechanics, remove the muffler, it will make the install much easier. Also make sure you remove the clips on the rear bumper, you will have to pry it out of the way to slide the hitch up and inside. The fit is excellent, love the flush look of this hitch. It took me a few hours to get it done, if I did it again knowing what I know now it would take about an hour.

Works great! Use it all the time. Short day trips and long road trips. Highly recommended.

by:

With the help of the etrailer video I installed the hitch on my 2018 Mazda CX-5 by myself, in my garage without any special equipment. I was extremely happy with the product, service and outcome. What made all the difference in my choice was how the main bar of the hitch is tucked up under the rear valence and all you see is the receiver, and that doesn't protrude too far. I use the hitch for a bike rack, but am considering trying my hand at the light kit, so I could also use a small utility trailer at times.

Great service and install instructions were spot on. Installed in under 30 min. Hardest part is getting the exhaust rubber mounts loose....perfect fit and looks great..

High quality steel and great, durable finish. Install was easy enough with my cx-5 on jack stands in my garage. Recommend a creeper if not on a lift. So grateful for the etrailer installation video!

This hitch receiver has worked perfectly to hold a 4 bike rack on my Mazda CX-5 (2021)!

by:

Product installed into factory holes perfectly. Provided instructional videos were concise and useful. Finish on the etrailer branded hitch was a bit more matte than gloss black. Product looks good, tucks up tight to bumper

by:

Took a bit of elbow grease to get this on but it fit perfectly.

Primary use is for my bike rack but I will likely use it for cargo and maybe some light towing in the future.

by:
2021 MazdaCX-5

When installing the hitch on my 2021 Mazda CX-5, I found it easiest to remove the rear muffler assembly. Even when the muffler was lowered per the installation instructions it was impossible to fit it into place.

Removing the lightweight muffler assembly is easy (remove two 14mm-9/16" nuts and the four rubber hanging mounts). This gives you lots of space for hitch installation and tightening the four mounting bolts (the front two thread into nuts already mounted inside the frame rail).

I just installed this hitch so it's too soon to describe my experience with it. However it appears well built, has a good finish, included all necessary hardware, and etrailer.com provided fast delivery.

It works so well I don’t even have to think about it. The finish seems to be holding up well, too.

by:
2015 MazdaCX-5

Went up real easy. Would buy again. A couple of tips I have is to tape washers on the hitch before putting it up, and leave two (the ones closer to the bumper) of the exhaust hanger rubber attached to the top pin or they'll be hard to put on after.

by:

The muffler.has to.be dropped much more than the video shows. Some pulling on the plastic bumper is necessary to get the Hitch in place. Took me about 2.5 hours buy.myself

by:
Mazda

Fit nice, and was fairly simple process. Spent 2 hours installing, but should take much less time, I got held up by 1 of the washer and bolts not lining up correctly, however that was on me not the design. I did use masking tape on the washers which definitely helps. If possible try to find someone to help hold the tow package in place while you tighten down the tow package. I installed by myself, but it made things more difficult, but it was still manageable.

Installed on 2015 Mazda CX-5 2.5l FWD.

by:

I had this installed by a third party. Took them 20 minutes! Overall, I am pleased with the etrailer service and hitch. It fits perfectly under my 2022 Mazda CX-5. I only intend to lug around a bike rack so it should be more than enough for that purpose.

I have been using this hitch for over a year and it continues to work flawlessly. The hitch is installed on a Mazda CX-5 and is primarily used for my bike rack. I have not attempted to pull a trailer or any heavy loads. It certainly meets my expectations and was the perfect solution for my situation…plus it was cheaper and more available than the Mazda version.

by:
2007 Mazda CX-9

Definitely needed a second set of hands, would've been tough by myself. Not a huge deal at all with a little help though. Take your time and use the hints in the video and you'll be fine.

by:

I installed it by myself and two jack stands. It was easy and job completed in 45 mins. I didn’t even raise the cx-5. I laid on the driveway, dropped the exhaust like instructed and 45 mins later …completed.-

The hitch fit my Mazda CX5 perfectly! It was a little tricky wire pulling the bolts through the frame and through the rear mounting holes. In all it took two of us 2 hours to do the installation

Great solid hitch. Recommend removing exhaust & installing the rear bolts with the fish wire after securing the hitch in place with the front threaded bolts. Oil & grease all bolts as you go for added protection.

I've bought 3 etrailer hitches. Unfortunately, two of them were installed on vehicles that I later totalled. (Ugh) Anyway, they all worked well, arrived expeditiously after ordering, and were fairly easy to install. Workmanship of all three were excellent - dimensionally accurate, high quality welds, and so forth. Pricing was WAY WAY WAY less than the thieves at the car dealerships. So buy one!

  • What Hitch Pin Will Work With etrailer Class 3 Hitch e98902
Hello Paul, thanks for reaching out. The etrailer Class 3 Hitch # e98902 has a standard 5/8" hitch pin hole. Any hitch pin for a 2" hitch should be this same 5/8" diameter. That diameter is very common. A hitch pin such as part # e98881 is what I recommend to go with the # e98902 hitch. What hitch pin did you buy? Was it not a 5/8" diameter pin?

  • Does etrailer Hitch Require Trimming Rear Bumper for Install on 2020 Mazda CX-5
I'm not sure how the OEM hitch installs on your 2020 Mazda CX-5, but the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98902 requires zero trimming of the bumper. It is designed to fit around the muffler and the receiver hangs just below your bumper as you can see in the attached photo. • Trailer Hitch for 2013 Mazda CX-5 and Towingi Capacity
Yes, the etrailer hitch part # e98902 is a confirmed fit for your 2013 Mazda CX-5 as it fits all models of the 2013 CX-5. The hitch is rated for towing a trailer that weighs up to 4,000 lbs. But it looks like your vehicle is only rated for towing up to 2,000 lbs so you'd be limited to that as overall capacity. For trailer wiring you'd then wan the Tekonsha kit part # 118563 as it installs very easily and also has a very reliable converter box. I attached an install video link for more info.
