Hitch was well made, received in a awesome time, the installation was extremely easy for my application on my 2011 jeep, only issues that I had were the mounting fasteners in the frame, lot of rust and had to be cleaned and threaded. I will be using it to haul my boat, camper and utility trailer

As good or even better than I expected have used several times pulling utility trailers boats and excellant performance

Product arrived very fast, I emailed about an error in shipping address the night i ordered and they replied fast correcting the problem immediately. Very pleased so far with it, looks like it will perform as needed, although I haven't tried pulling anything with it yet. Definitely recommend doing business with these folks, it was easy and I look forward to testing it out as soon as I can

I installed the Curt 13245 hitch and Curt C56183 4-Pole trailer lighting connector on my 2008 Jeep Liberty. It all worked flawlessly just as the video depicted. Only one factory bolt to remove and all six mounting bolts screw right into factory installed weld nuts already there in the frame. One bit of advice: Even though the factory provided the mounting weld nuts, do yourself a favor and grab a 12x1.75mm tap before you start. You'll need to chase the threads out as they are generally fouled with the factory paint and likely a little surface rust. It will make the job go much closer to the 30 minutes advertised. Fit and finish is excellent. Welds ground smooth and the paint heavy and smooth. After chasing the threads the rest was truly minutes to do. Economical combination and works great.

I was involved in a car accident where I was rear ended by another car who was hit from behind as well. I had the hitch on the back of my car and it took the brunt of the force and because of the excellent design, I had minimal damage. Unfortunately, the hitch has to be replaced but I'm convinced I would have been hurt and had more damage to my car had I not had this hitch. Thanks etrailer and Curt!!

by:

Nice looking hitch, installed by my self. Took a bit longer for me, had to run a tap through threaded holes. Also, the one bolt I did have to remove was rusty as hell! Took a lot of W-D, but finally came out

I purchased a CURT trailer hitch for my 2012 Jeep Liberty. It fits as expected and looks good too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the hardware included did not fit my vehicle. Although not an etrailer issue, I've discussed this with Etrailer CS and they are contacting CURT for resolution.

by:
2015 JeepLiberty

This is a great value for the price. The hardest part of the installation was cleaning out the mounting holes on my 2011 Jeep Liberty. With no help available, at 73 yrs old and diminished strength, I did the job completely by myself. Balancing it on a 2x10 and raising it with a floor jack, it took 15 minuets.

by:
Jeep

Ordering was easy. The hitch came a few days later. The threaded holes on the frame of the Jeep had rust in them, I went to the local hardware store and got a M12 -1.75 tap to clean them out. I recommend doing this, it made the instalation of the hitch much easier.

by:

Curtis hitch came with all the hardware needed. Installation was easy and clean with a total of 15 minutes spent on installation with the use of a floor jack.

by:

Product arrived in excellent shape. Packaging was excellent. Well fabricated unit. Fit up matched up exactly as needed. Installation was as described, under 30 mins. Well done e-trailer and Curt Trailer.

Nice hitch, do yourself a favor and get a tap to chase the threaded holes before installing the new bolts, also spray the factory bolt that needs to come out with pb blaster as you work it out..makes the install go much smoother..they corroded and just cleaning them with a wire brush wasn't enough for me

Nice hitch, very easy to install, fit perfectly. The hardest part was cleaning the threads in the frame since they had 10 years of crud in them. Also getting the one bolt out took some effort since it had been in there 10 years. Soaked everything with penetrating oil the day before and that helped.

by:
2011 JeepLiberty

Excellent trailer hitch for my 2011 Jeep Liberty. Product was delivered fast, and as described. Instructions were easy to follow, and it was not difficult to install (yes the factory bolt takes some muscling to get off but it does come off). Customer service was great as well...I highly recommend using etrailer!

by:
2011 JeepLiberty

I first looked at etrailer because of the price but I chose to purchase from etrailer because of the helpful "how to" videos. Wiring harness seemed too difficult until I watched the video. Mounting the hitch and installing the wiring was as easy as can be. Product seems to be quality made, very solid and welds look good. The paint finish even still looks good after a year. I work for a truck parts supply company and I have been recommending etrailer to all of my customers, co-workers and friends & family since my purchase.

Product is great but I wish it was designed to be flush with the profile ofthe rear bumper. It tends to be a real shin buster when loading and unloading items in the hatchback. If I ever find one that is flush or recessed I will likely be switching it out.

by:
JeepLiberty

Like everything I have bought from etrailer this hitch is doing an excellent job for me and it fit perfectly on my jeep liberty. the only thing is I would like to see a better place to hide the wiring harness put mine on the bottem side of the hitch because I didn't find a better place for my set up it works ok because my jeep has good strong springs and sets high when I load the trailer 'so no danger of dragging it on the ground.

Hitch Fits Great (1) Bolt Out (6) Bolts In Took About (20) Minutes
But The (2) Inch Reciever Seems A Little Over Sized (Too Much Movement) Slack Rattles When Your Have A Trailer On Or Off.

So I Tried Another One That Have (Same Problem)
I Don't Think This One Right. Guess I'll Shim It Or Run Good Heavy Bead On It To Take The Slack Out

Slack in between the ball mount or drawbar and the hitch is perfectly normal. Manufacturers leave these fits a little loose to accommodate the different manufacturers tolerances so you do not end up with a hitch from Company A that is too tight for a Company Q ball mount. There are anti-rattle devices you should check out that would pretty much eliminate the noise and rattling. Check out Roamaster Quiet Hitch part RM-061.

Bryan A. profile picture

Bryan A.

4/20/2013

The movement is normal for all receiver hitches. A trailer that is properly balanced will have 10-15 of the trailer weight on the tonguehitch, an unbalanced trailer too light on the tongue will exaggerate the rattling problem with the receiver hitch, especially on the highway or over bumpy roads as the tongue bounces up and down. Special stingers are sold that will take out the slack/slop in hich, but they are not as easily removed as the common stinger. You can use an old inner tube or cardboard to temporarily take care of the rattle/

2012JeepLiberty

Hitch for 2012 Jeep Liberty was top notch. Was worried that my full size spare tire would be in the way but the hitch cleared the tire with lots of room. So needless to say I was very happy and the quality of the hitch was extra heavy duty. Cleaning the threads on the existing welded nuts on the car was the hardest part. Took me 3 hours to do that because of all the undercoating. But after that installing the hitch itself was very easy. Looks great as well. Now I have to find something to tow!

by:

We have been very happy with our Curt Trailer Hitch receiver for our 2010 Jeep. etrailer was great to work with. Shipping was fast, installation easy. Now looking at a tow bar package from etrailer for our RV!

Excellent quality and very easy to install, did the installation by myself! Ordering was very easy and the product arrived very fast, 3 days after ordering! Thanx so much and will do business with etrailer again in the future!

by:

I am very happy with my purchase. Received the hitch quickly and it has worked very well for me. I have used it when pulling my 14 ft fishing boat as well as a smaller enclosed trailer. I believe it will handle anything very well - probably well more than I am attempt to haul with my vehicle (only because I am careful about not overloading to avoid any transmission harm - that's just me though!). I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this hitch from etrailer.com again.

One year later and I am still very pleased with my purchase. Have not had any trouble at all.

by:

I am thoroughly impressed with this trailer hitch, and the service from etrailer. The trailer hitch is not only extremely sturdy, but very well made. etrailer even went the extra step of including instructions, complete with photos and a diagram, that is specific to my vehicle. The instructions and diagram are absolutely on point, even showing what to do with a vehicle stabilizer bar of some sort, that had me wondering what to do with it - until that is, I saw the instructions and diagram. I'm sure this particular stabilized bar is not generic to all vehicles - which tells me, that etrailer has done its homework.

Nice prices, too.

Great product and a great company.

  • Will Weight Distribution Help Sway of Trailer Sized 5 by 8 ft
The sway you are experiencing is not going to be fixed by a weight distribution system. What you will need to do is move as much weight forward in the trailer as possible and also make sure the trailer is sitting level as well and the sway you mentioned will go away. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next,...
