Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Today were working on 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Well be installing a Curt Hitch part number 13251. Here are couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the bumper is approximately 2inches and from the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 17inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack or a cargo carrier. Now lets go ahead with the installation.

Our first step is going to be removing the spare tire of the vehicle. Well need to lower and remove the tire to gain access and install our hitch. After that, if you ever have any tow hooks on the vehicle, you go ahead and remove those. Our application does not. Let me need to go ahead and loosen the bumper cover.

In order to that, weve got a total of four fasteners that come from underneath, two on the driver side and two on the passenger side. And we also got two large fasteners that attach the bumper fascia to the frame or remove those. Theres one on the driver side, identical one on the passenger side also. To remove the tabs, just taking a flat head screwdriver to loosen them up and then a tab removal tool where you can continue to use a screwdriver to pull the tabs out. All right theres a two on the bottom side for the driver side, not lets get the one on the top.

With the three removed on the driver side, Ill go on ahead repeat the same process on the passenger side. To install our hitch, with a total of four bolts identical to this one and conical tooth washer with the teeth of the washer will face the hitch, now go ahead and raise our hitch up into position so it fit right around the frame of the vehicle. The reason we took those push tabs out is so we can push the bumper cover backwards to get our hitch into position. Let us put our fasteners in finger tight it this time. Ok, with all four of our fasteners installed, we can go ahead and run them down.

With all four of our fasteners tightened down, we can go ahead and torque the specifications as indicated in the instructions. With our hitch tightened down the specification, we can go ahead and reinstall all of our push pins. That will complete the installation of our Curt Hitch part number 13251.

One year later, its as if the receiver was installed when the car was built. Great quality, works perfect. Would never know it was something I installed years later myself.

Friendly knowledgeable staff over the phone when I ordered. Jennifer walked me through every piece and ensured I was ordering everything I'd need. The hardware even included spare fasteners for the bumper in anticipation of the original ones breaking upon removal. Intuition is underrated but they nailed it. Great quality everything from what I can tell so far. etrailer just hooked a lifetime customer. Thanks 388138

The hitch is working perfectly and I’m still very happy with it. We are actually in the process of buying a new car and I’ll be ordering a new hitch very soon to install on it. Thank you for a fantastic product.

The powder coat got into the threads. Had to use a tap to remove powder coat. After that it was very easy to install. Dropping the spare tire is key to easy installation. 539205

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Good price, perfect fit, well constructed. More time spent removing gear from Jeep to access jack/spare lower tool and lower spare tire than to install hitch. Extra replacement plastic buttons for bumper/bracket, nice touch etrailer, they often break when removed. I used some silicone spray to remove, one broke anyway. Next purchase will be a cargo carrier haven't decided which one. Folding would be nice. One question comes to mind, Has anyone ever been stopped by the Troopers/Police for covering the rear tag ?, Florida does not have a front car tag. 560045

Comments

I recommend the Rola Dart folding cargo carrier part # 59550. The Rola cargo carrier measures 56 inches long x 23 inches wide x 4 inches deep of usable space. It also folds up against the vehicle when not in use and features a 4 1/2 inch rise shank to help with ground clearance. The hitch part # 13251 you recently had installed on your 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a tongue weight rating of 500 lbs. The Rola Dart carrier weighs about 73 lbs, so you will be able to carry 427 lbs of cargo on the carrier. Most states will require relocation of the license plate if it is blocked by the cargo carrier. The Rola Dart has relocation holes to attach the license plate to the cargo carrier. If your Grand Cherokees tail lights are blocked a light kit will be required on the cargo carrier. Rola light kit part # 59516 will pop into the oval cutouts on the carrier and plug into your 4 way connector on the vehicle. If the cargo you are carrying needs to be protected from the elements, I recommend Rola cargo bag part # 59102. This bag features built in straps to attach the bag to the cargo carrier and is constructed from premium quality water-resistant material with sonically sealed seams.

2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Received the trailer hitch for my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee right away. The following day I lowered my spare tire and had the hitch installed within 20 minutes. The washer/spacers would not fit however I had some thinner ones so I used those. I raised the spare tire up and done. I then installed the wire harness that was ordered at the same time which took all of 15 minutes minutes so altogether it took a whole 35 minutes. It did help watching the installation video before the install. If you are thinking about it, don't spend the money to pay somebody else to do it. All you need is a socket wrench, a torque wrench, a screw driver, and a knife to open the package. 509888

  • Which Curt Class III Trailer Hitch Fits 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • Curt makes a hitch 13172 but it is not a fit for a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee so it would not work for you. Instead you'd want the Curt Class III hitch part # 13251 for a similar hitch confirmed as a fit. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well.

  • Base Plates, Tow Bar, Wiring, Safety Cables, and Braking System to Flat Tow a 2000 Chevy S-10
  • The first thing you will need are base plates on the 2000 Chevy S-10 LS. There are several options available depending on if the truck has 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive. For 2 wheel drive, I recommend Roadmaster Base Plates, # 161-1. For 4 wheel drive, use Roadmaster base Plates, # 179-2. These are XL style base plates which means the visible part can be removed when not towing. Next, you will need a tow bar compatible with XL style base plates. I recommend the RoadMaster Tracker Tow...

  • Recommended Hitch and Towing Accessories for 2011 Jeep Cherokee
  • For your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, I would recommend the Curt Class III Receiver, part # C13182. The hitch uses tubular steel for the crossbar, and in the opinion of many people, is more attractive than the square tube steel. The # 13251 would bolt into a reinforced tubular steel cross member welded to the frame of certain Jeep and Dodge Ram vehicles. The reinforced cross member was essentially a pre-installed hitch without the receiver. Beginning with the 2011 model year, Jeep discontinued...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee for Towing Small Trailer
  • For your 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee the Curt hitch part # 13251 is a confirmed fit and would easily tow a small rental trailer like you mentioned. For trailer wiring you then would want the part # 118425 which is a confirmed fit. Since you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball,...

  • Installation of a Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • We do perform installs if you're local to Wentzville, MO. If you're not, you can order the hitch from us and have it installed in your area. Most trailer shops and mechanics will perform the work. If you can tell me the year, make, and model of your SUV I'd be happy to recommend a specific trailer hitch receiver.
