Hey everybody. Connor 00:00:01 Here today, etrailer.com. We're going to be taking a look at the Curt trailer hitch here, for our 2020 Honda Odyssey. So our Curt trailer hitch is going to be an excellent option here, for our Odyssey. We're going to have a class two rating, what they want in a quarter inch receiver tube opening. Now this is going to allow us to do a couple of different things.
If we need to tow a trailer we can still do so, with this one to quarter inch opening. Or if we have a bike rack or cargo carrier we need to use. Whether we want to hit the trails or free up some space inside the vehicle, this trailer hitch is going to be perfect for that as well. As we can see here, we have a nice, shiny powder, coated black finish here. So it's going to help it blend in with our vehicle here more. We're also going to have a nice sturdy color around the receiver tube opening here.
So with the class two rating here of our trailer hitch, that's going to leave us with a lot of different opportunities. Now if we are going to be towing a trailer, we're going to have a max gross trailer weight rating of 3,500 pounds. Which is how much we can pull outward here on the trailer hitch. And in regards to tongue weight rating, that's going to be 350 pounds. That's going to be the downward force here on the receiver tube opening.
Now keep in mind if we are towing we do need to check our vehicle's owner's manual, to ensure the vehicle is rated properly. If not we need to abide by the lower of the two ratings. So if we take a look on the side of the receiver tube opening here, you're going to see the half inch hole here which is going to be for our hitch pin and clip. Now keep in mind this is sold separately, so it's not going to come with our trailer hitch. But we have plenty of options, as well as some locking options here through etrailer. Now this is going to be whether it's going to secure our ball mount or bike rack or cargo carrier, and prevent it from sliding out of the receiver tube opening.
Then on the bottom here we're going to have our safety chain tabs. Which are welded to the bottom of the receiver tube, and the cross tube. inaudible 00:01:52 are going to work just fine with our standard s type safety hooks. So now we have a couple of measurements here for you. The first one is going to be for ground clearance. The distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening. This is going to be most useful inaudible 00:02:08 selecting our ball mount, so we can get the correct rise and drop. This measurement here is going to be about 12 and three quarter inches. Then finally, the last measurement we have here is the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole, to the outside edge of our bumper. That's going to help us more selecting our folding accessories, such as our bike racks or cargo carriers. So we can make sure they don't interfere with the vehicle, while in the stowed position. This measurement here, it's going to be about two and a half inches. So our trailer hitch sits pretty close to the edge of the bumper. So we shouldn't have any issues with any folding accessories. So in regards to installation, this is definitely going to be a very super simple install. Something you can do at home by yourself. With little tools or even knowledge of installing trailer hitches. We don't really have to do any modifications to the vehicle. It's simply going to feature a bolt on installation, with a couple bolts on each side but that's it.So I definitely encourage you to try this one at home by yourself. So now that we've gone over some of the benefits and features, let's jump right into installation and show you how easy this is to do yourself. So to start our installation today, we're going to come over here on the passenger side of the vehicle. And if we look directly above our tailpipe here, we're going to see we have this little plastic deflector here. So we need to go ahead and remove that. In order to do that there's going to be two push pin fasteners here. We're just going to simply take a trim panel tool or flat-head screwdriver.Or we're just going to pry out that center section there, because once we do that the rest of the fastener should come down. So the next thing we need to do is we need to come over to the driver's side of the vehicle here. And directly behind a rear wheel we're going to see the skid shield here, which needs to come out. In order to remove this we're going to have some push pin fasteners here on the outside. We're going to have a 10 millimeter bolt on the inside, as well as a Phillips head screw which we'll show you next. And let's first go ahead and get these pushpin fasteners out.So once we have all of our pushpin fasteners on the outside removed, as we said we're going to have a 10 millimeter screw on the inside here. And then inside of the wheel well actually, we're going to have a Phillips head screw we need to remove as well. So now we should be able to remove our panel here, and set this aside. On both sides of the frame we're going to have two weld nuts here, which are right towards the rear bumper. You can see these here. Again there's going to be two on each side. What we're going to do now is, since these are exposed under the vehicle especially on the other side. We're just going to go ahead and take a spray lubricant as well as a nylon brush here. We're just going to clean those holes out. That way we don't have any issues while threading in our fasteners. So the next thing we're going to do is, we're going to go ahead and drop our exhaust here. We're going to have two hangers here that we need to remove. But before we do that, we're going to go ahead and take a strap here. Just connect it to two bottom points here on our trailing arms. That way we can support the tailpipe here we break these hangers free. We're just going to take a penetrating oil here. Just any lubricant you have here. We're just going to spray down the rubber isolator here, where the exhaust hanger inserts into it. So now we can go ahead and pry the rubber isolator, from our hanger here using one of two tools. We have an exhaust hanger removal tool, or we have a pry bar tool. The pry bar tool you're probably going to have at home. So that's what you can use for this step. And so we should build inaudible 00:06:11 off like that. And then we have our strap here supporting our exhaust. So now we can go ahead and start feeding our hardware up into the frame. This first step here, we're going to take our fish wire or bolt leader. Whatever you want to call it. We're going to thread it on to one of the two carriage bolts that come with our kit here. Once that's done, we're going to take one of our two spacer blocks insert that to the other end here. And now we're going to go ahead and stick this up into our frame here. And we see directly behind our two weld nuts here, we're going to have this larger hole here. This is where our carriage bolt is going to go. We're going to first insert the carriage bolt, then we're going to slide our spacer up in the frame. We should be able to pull it out to where our spacer or bolt goes through our spacer, and down to the access hole just like that. Before we raise our hitch up into position, we're going to go ahead and prep our hardware here. We're going to be taking our hex head bolts along with our conical tooth washer. We're going to be make sure the teeth are going to be facing up with the hitch. These are going to go in the two weld stop holes, that we cleaned out earlier on the frame. So we're going to get both of these ready. We're going to have two on each side. And then we're going to have a flange nut, which is going to attach to the carriage bolt that we just installed. So we're going to go ahead and set those on each side of the frame. That way when we lift our hitch up into position, we'll have it right there where we need it. So now with an extra set of hands, we can go ahead and set our hitch up into position on the vehicle. Keep in mind we want to start with the passenger side first, because we need to come up and over the exhaust.Going to take the wire from our fish wire there. inaudible 00:07:51 bolt leader into this. Go ahead and start with that one. Get that up into position. Once we have one on each side to hold it in place, we can go ahead and just insert the rest of our hardware here. Now we're going to take our 19 millimeter socket, and snug up our two hex bolts. As well as our 18 millimeter socket to snug up the flange nut, on our carriage bolt.So we're first going to start off by torquing 00:08:30 our two hex bolts. We're going to be torquing those to 86 foot pounds. And then we're going to torque our single flange nut on each side, to 70 foot pounds. And again obviously once we finish this side, we'll work our way over to the other side and repeat the same process. So now that we have our hitch up into position, we have all our fasteners torqued down. We can go ahead and reinstall our exhaust deflector. The panel here over on the driver's side of the frame, that won't be able to be re-installed for this hitch. And then the last thing you can do is go ahead and just raise our exhaust up into position, and that should be it. And that's going to do it for our look and installation, of the Curt trailer hitch here for our 2020 Honda Odyssey.

My box came open and broken - my product came rusty and banged up chipped - this doesn’t look like a new product would come .
A very solid appearing hitch and went in perfectly, after the confusing instructions were deciphered. That is the only reason for the 4 star. Better instructions or a link to a video would be helpful
