Hidden Design for a Clean, Factory Look

The EcoHitch Stealth trailer hitch is designed to be completely out of sight when you're not towing. The hitch's cross tube bolts onto your vehicle's frame, behind your rear bumper. No drilling or welding is required. Once installed, the cross tube will be completely concealed and only the receiver will be visible beneath your bumper. But unlike other hitches with hidden cross tubes, the Stealth goes one further. You can remove the receiver portion of the hitch for a completely out-of-sight setup. To mount the receiver, just insert it up into the access port that is built into the cross tube. Secure the receiver to the hitch with the supplied bolt and washers. When you're done towing, just remove the receiver portion to return your vehicle to its clean, factory appearance.

Eco-Friendly Material

With a combination of aerospace-grade aluminum, steel, and stainless steel, each EcoHitch is made of a strong metal alloy that will stand the test of time. The lightweight alloy is composed of recycled materials. Traditional steel hitch manufacturing can use coal or oil, which can contribute to harmful gas emissions. The EcoHitch's recycled materials limit the carbon footprint during manufacturing, so you get a sturdy trailer hitch while also helping the environment.

Rigorous Strength Testing Ensures Durability

This EcoHitch trailer hitch is tested for durability and sturdiness. Using Finite Elemental Analysis (FEA), individual points of stress on the hitch can be detected and remedied. Designers can accurately test the hitch to ensure that it will meet or exceed SAE J684 standards. The EcoHitch Stealth trailer hitch is carefully researched and strength tested for a durable, high-quality hitch that can resist damage while on the road.

Video Transcript for EcoHitch Stealth Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Subaru Crosstrek

Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Subaru Crosstrek, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the EcoHitch Class II Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 306-X7366. Here's what our hitch is going to look like once we have it installed on our Crosstrek. The cross tube's going to be hidden completely behind the bumper, and all we're going to see is the receiver tube sticking out. The really nice thing about this is if we don't want to see that receiver tube sticking out and we're not going to tow, because of the design, if we pull this bolt out, we can drop the receiver tube out and it'll be completely concealed behind the bumper. Our safety chains are going to be tucked behind the bumper here, and even though we're going to have to reach in a little bit, we should have plenty of room to get our hooks attached. And, since they're so far back, we're not going to have to worry about interference from the pin and clip. Some of our customers have really liked the finish on here. It's going to have more of a textured black finish, opposed to the traditional high gloss, so it's going to hide scratches and dirt really well.

And our EcoHitch is going to be eco-friendly because it's going to be made out of recycled materials. And our inch and a quarter opening here is going to be great. If you have a bike rack or any other accessory that has and inch and a quarter on it. And the way we're going to attach any of those accessories is through the hitch pin hole here on the side, and it is going to accept a standard half inch pin and clip, and while these aren't included in our kit, you can pick them up here at etrailer.com.If you do plan doing some light-duty towing, our hitch is going to have a 350-pound tongue weight, which is the maximum downward pressure on the receiver tube. It's also going to have a 3,500 pound gross trailer weight rating, which is the amount it can pull, including the trailer and everything we have loaded on it.

With those numbers in mind, you should always double check your Crosstrek's owner's manual and never exceed the manufacturer's recommended weight. Our receiver tube's going to be pretty close to in line with the back of our bumper so it's going to give us a lot of clearance when we're putting in any kind of folding accessories or bike racks or anything like that, but it's also not going to stick out too far to where we're going to have to worry about hitting our leg. I'd like to give you a few measurements. That's going to help you when deciding for accessories for your hitch, such as a bike rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin holes to the outermost edge of the bumper, it's going to be right about two-and-a-half inches. That measurement's going to come in handy when you're looking at folding accessories to make sure you have enough clearance so it doesn't come in contact with the rear bumper. And from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening, it's going to be right about 15 1/2 inches.

Now, at that height, we should have enough ground clearance, but I do recommend a bike rack or a cargo carrier with a raised shank. That way we get a little bit more ground clearance. Now that we've seen what our hitch looks like and gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation, we're going to come underneath our Crosstrek, and we're going to lower our exhaust. We're going to have a total of four hangers, two on the driver's side right by the muffler, one on the passenger side by the muffler, and if we move further back right by the rear axle, we're going to have another one. But before we lower the exhaust, you want to make sure you put up a support strap to make sure it's not going to hang down too far.

We want to just make sure there's some tension before we start removing the rubber isolators. Then take a little bit of spray lubricant, and I'm going to spray the hangers down. It'll make it a little bit easier for those isolators to slide off. Then I'm just going to use a pry bar to slide that rubber off the isolator. With all the hangers loosened, we're going to slowly lower the strap down so we have a little bit of room to work with. If we come to the bottom of the frame rail here, on each side we're going to have three plugs. We're going to want to pull all those out so we can grab a flathead screw driver. We'll just pry those out of there. We're going to remove the other side as well.To get our hardware in place, we're going to take our pull wire. It's going to have a coiled end on it. I'm going to put a slight bend in it. We're going to take the coiled end. We're going to feed it into the frame at the hole that furthest towards the rear bumper, and we're going to feed it forward until we can come out the hole towards the front. It make take a little bit of patience and maneuvering to gain access.Once we have the coiled wire through, we'll slide one of our spacer blocks over the coiled end of the wire. Then we'll push it into the frame. Then we'll take one of our bolts. We're going to take one of the internal lock washers, slide it over the bolt, and then thread it on to the end of the wire. And we'll push both of them into the frame, and we'll pull on the wire until the bolt drops down through the block. We're going to carefully remove the pull wire from the bolt because we're going to have to repeat this process for all the remaining bolt holes. For the forward attachment point, it's going to be a little bit different. We're going to start out with our pull wire, slide our spacer block over the coiled end, then again take one of our bolts and the internal washer, slide it over, then we'll thread it onto the wire. Then we're going to feed the bolt in first followed by the block, and then we'll pull down on the wire until the bolt comes through. And keep in mind, anything we do on one side, we're going to do on the other side. With an extra set of hands, we're going to lift our hitch into place, and once we have the bolts going through our hitch, we're going to secure it using two flat washers, a lock washer, and then finally a hex nut.You want to make sure you get at least one nut on each side hand-tight. That way the hitch will support itself. We'll come back with a 3/4 inch socket, and we're going to tighten up all our hardware. Then we can come back with a torque wrench, and we're going to torque all the hardware down to the specified amount in the instructions. Now we can lift our exhaust back up, and you may want to spray a little bit more lubricant on the rubber isolator. It'll make it a lot easier sliding back in place. Finally, we can remove the strap. We can now grab our receiver tube, and you'll notice it's going to have a nut and a hole going through the shank. We're going to put this into the receiver there. We're going to line up the holes going through the side. Then we're going to take our 5/8 bolt. We're going to make sure to put a lock washer and a flat washer in there. Then we're going to go through the hole in the side until it comes on the other side, lines up with the nut, and we'll tighten it down. We can come back with either a 15/16 or a 24 millimeter socket and we'll tighten it up. Then we'll come back with our torque wrench, and we'll torque it down to the specified amount in the instructions. That'll finish up your look at the EcoHitch Class II Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 306-X7366 on our 2018 Subaru Crosstrek.

The box got damaged in transit, and - amazingly - so did the bag holding the bolts, etc, which fell out of the hole in the box. So we had to get replacements from our local hardware store. Fortunately, they (Moorestown Hardware) had the right bolts, washers, and nuts. So we were able to do the install. Also, fortunately, we did not have to drop the muffler to install the hitch. The hitch slipped right past the muffler. Great design. It took over 2 hours to install, though, because of the trip to the hardware store. 564530

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Subaru CrossTrek
  • Yes, for the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek we have the EcoHitch part # 306-X7365 confirmed as a fit. This a 2 inch hitch that has a removable hitch opening so that when not in use no part of the hitch would be visible. The 2 inch hitch size is the most popular which means most accessories will be made to fit it and it will have great towing capacities. If for some reason you wanted the smaller 1-1/4 inch size we have the # 306-X7366 as well.

  • Will the Curt Trailer Hitch # C13382 Fit a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek
  • The only trailer hitches that are currently listed as a fit for your 2019 Subaru Crosstrek (as of September 2018) are both from EcoHitch. These are parts # 306-X7365 (2" receiver) and # 306-X7366 (1-1/4" receiver). None of our other manufacturers have a fit listed as of yet. I recommend going with the part # 306-X7365 that has the 2" receiver as it will allow you to use a wider variety of accessories. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek to Carry Thule Helium XT
  • The 1-1/4 inch hitches made by Subaru still have the very shallow pin depth that makes fitting a bike rack difficult. If you want to use your Thule Helium bike rack part # TH9042 you will have to go with an aftermarket hitch on your 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. I really like the EcoHitch part # 306-X7366 for your vehicle as it has a hitch opening that can be removed when not needed so as to give you a concealed look.

  • Concealed and Visible Trailer Hitch Options for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
  • For your 2018 Subaru Crosstrek we offer several hitch options, all shown on the linked page, that include both 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III types. We generally always recommend the 2-inch option when it is available since these hitches typically offer a higher weight capacity for towing and much broader compatibility with the range of available accessory items like bike racks and cargo baskets. Also among the hitch options are products that have a completely hidden crosstube,...

  • I went out to the warehouse to measure the distance from the face of the receiver on EcoHitch # 306-X7366 to the center of the hitch pin hole and found it was 2-1/4" so you will be fine using your Kuat Sherpa bike rack.

  • Invisible Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Subaru Crosstrek
  • If you want a trailer hitch designed to fit your 2018 Subaru Crosstrek that will be totally invisible when you aren't towing you'd want the EcoHitch part # 306-X7366. This hitch has a lower section that totally removes when not in use so that the hitch isn't seen. The Curt # C13382 that you referenced would still fit but the hitch tube would always be present. The EcoHitch does not require any trimming to install so your rear bumper as it sits not would not be affected. For a bracket...
