Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Want to talk about easy. If you can change your own oil you can install one of these hitches.....

Incredibly fast shipping, great packaging, good price. Not that easy to install (Subaru's fault), looks and works great.

Tough to installThe rubber hanging supports on the '09 Forester are a pain to get off... and then all 4 holes need to be modified. It took a while longer than the instructions suggest. Overall, it looks great once installed.

Video was perfect. Hitch installed exactly as videw described.
Price of hitch extremely competive.
I'm 100% satisfied with this purchase and your service.

Product fits perfectly on my Forester. Very easy to install. Instructions with diagrams were very helpful. Definitely recommended.

by:

While the hitch arrived safely and the instruction were good we had some issues with the fishing wire contraptions. Once we got the first one on and the bolt in place getting the wire back off was a pain and the contraption was almost ruined and that was just the first bolt. When the second set came around it was even worse. Two sets of the fishing wire/springs would have been appreciated and far less frustrating.

Great experience dealing with etrailer.com. Easy to deal with, price was excellent, delivery was fast. The installation videos are very helpful.

Nice HitchThe hitch showed up in 3 days.
The instructions seemed simple. They asked to drop the exaust by the hangers. I thought that it would still be in the way to put the hitch up, so I unbolted the two mufflers 4 bolts "simple" and I had room and nothing to hinder putting the hitch up.
It took less than a hour.

Not too difficult to install. Lowering the exhaust system was easily done. Drilling easy. Be sure to install the bolts and anchor plates properly by size. Highly recommend.

by:
2009 Subaru Forester

Easy enough for one person to install. I'm not sure how long it took, I was watching my daughter and had to take several breaks to keep her happy. If you remove the trays over the spare tire, you can go from the top of the frame and then all of the bolts go in the same way. If you are putting in the wiring harness, you will have to remove them anyways.

by:
2011 Subaru Forester

Hitch is as solidly built as you could ask for. Hardware is nice and heavy duty.

Unless you've spent time under your car already, watch the installation video! The printed instructions are a little sparse and the video fills in some of the gaps nicely.

Installation went largely as documented (though you will need an additional socket size that's not on the 'required tools list') and took me about an hour. Nice that these kits come with 4 fish-wires for the bolts so you don't have to worry about reusing them.

Trailer hitchToday I installed a Draw-Tite class III trailer hitch for my 2010 Subaru Forester. etrailer.com processed my order promptly and my hitch arrived on schedule. Installation was pretty straitforward. I like the solid connection between hitch and car frame. Was sipping a cup of coffee after completion in less than two hours. Can't wait to tow my boat to my favorite fishing hole.

2011 Subaru Forester

This is a great product. Very well built and looks pretty sharp on the 2011 Subaru Forester, too. My wife and I wont be using it for trailer towing, but we will utilize it for our bike rack.
The install wasn't too bad. I would recommend ramps because the Subaru sits relativley low. Also another set of hands to help lift and position the hitch once you get the bolts installed.
I am very satisfied with this purchase, and with etrailer.com. Shipping was free and it arrived in good shape and very quickly.

This is the third hitch we've purchased from etrailer, and like the other two, this is a great product. We use ours primarily for hauling bicycles on bike racks/trailers, but it's nice to know with this one we can use it for other purposes as well (this is a 2" while the others were 1 1/4").

Installation is rather comical for me to watch, as my husband and his friend have installed each of these on various vehicles (only minor injuries occurred). They are both capable, but refuse to watch instructional videos, or read instructions, so it took a bit longer than it probably should have. Still, I can't fault them too much as they got the job done, and completed installation in under 3 hours.

The hitch arrived incredibly quickly, and customer service/communication is so great... can't beat the prices either!

Helpful hint: If, like us, you primarily use this for bicycles, most of the bike racks seem to be 1 1/4", rather than 2", so you'll need an adapter to help them fit properly.

It installed exactly per the video and fit perfectly.
I test fit my 2" receiver bike rack which was also perfect. Though I haven't used it yet, I'm sure it will be plenty strong to handle the rated loads.

Ive been flirting with the idea of getting a bike rack myself. What brand or style would you recommend?

@BrookeM There are lots out there. I have a Thule T2 which I like well enough. If I had it to do over, I'd spend the extra money and get a oneup (1up) super duty double. Important considerations are: no contact with the bike frame -tires only, heavy duty since the world is headed for heavier ebikes, minimal sway when traveling, easy on easy off (both the bikes on the rack and the rack on the car). Good luck!

I chose to remove the bumper to install this hitch. By doing this, it avoids the need to do any drilling, grinding, or other modifications to the holes in the frame. Removing the bumper wasn't too hard. The Subaru Technical Information System has the PDF directions for installing the OEM hitch, which includes great directions on removing and replacing the bumper. The hardware can be installed through the end of the frame easily using the included fishwire.

The installation of the hitch itself was also straightforward. Dropping the exhaust was easy. I applied a penetrating lubricant to the exhaust hangars several days beforehand and let it soak in, and removing the hangars wasn't too hard at all. I'd recommend getting a friend to lift the ~35 pound hitch in place while you install the washers and nuts to hold it in place.

I also purchased the 118467 wiring harness. Installation was literally as simple as removing the cargo tray and plugging it into the vehicle harness. Foolproof!

The hitch looks great installed, and I while I haven't had a chance to tow any distance yet, I have no doubts that this will serve me well for years to come.

The hitch is still there! In all seriousness, it has worked great. Traveled probably over 5,000 miles with a trailer, and many thousands more without, and the hitch is still in fantastic shape, save a tiny patch of surface corrosion.

Came in packaged well with everything needed for install. Powder coat finish looks amazing, not that it matters to much cuz this model stays hidden pretty well.
Highly recommend and almost essential for my 2009 Subaru Forester xt living in Colorado.

Bought this in January and it was just too cold to install until today.... Started at 1530 hrs and was finished with all tools put away by 1800! I was a little nervous on the possibility of having the Subaru down for a few days if I got stuck however the install went like a breeze. I did all the work alone by using a car jack and a few timbers to jockey it into place, not a problem. Thought I'd have a hassle with the rubber parts but they slid on and off without a hitch (pun intended). Great kit, just take it slow and easy and this is a piece 'o cake.

Still MORE than pleased with this hitch....In fact, its taken quite a bit of punishment and I do believe this hitch will take anything the Forester will take.

  • Trailer Hitch and Towing Capacity for 2010 Subaru Forester
From the research I did it looks like your 2010 Subaru Forester has a 2,400 lb towing capacity. You will need to check your owners manual to verify this as well though. The trailer hitches we offer for your vehicle have capacities that are quite a bit higher than that like the Draw Tite hitch part # 75650 but you would have to go by the lower vehicle weight capacity since you are only as strong as your weakest link in a towing capacity. I attached an install video for this hitch for you...

  • Curt vs. Draw-Tite Hitch for a 2009 Subaru Forester XT
Either the Curt Hitch # 13147 or the Draw-Tite Hitch # 75650 would work very well for you. The main difference between the two is the tube design like you noticed. There is not an advantage to having a round tube over a square tube hitch or vice versa. Some people just prefer the look of one over the other. Check out the picture I attached that shows both hitches installed on a vehicle so you can see which look you prefer. When determining the towing capacity of a setup you must always...

The Curt part # 13147 and Hidden Hitch part 87493 are similar designs as they are built to fit the same vehicles. There are a couple of key differences that may help you in making a decision. Curt uses a high-gloss black finish on their hitches and the Hidden Hitch is not so glossy. If you want a duller finish go with the Hidden Hitch. If you like high-gloss black, use the Curt. Additionaly, in this model, Curt uses round tube for the cross member and Hidden Hitch uses square tube. You...

I do have a solution for you but first weight distribution cannot be used with a Class II trailer hitch. Class II trailer hitches are not built for or tested for use with weight distribution so manufacturers do not make any systems that will fit a Class II trailer hitch.
