Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

It was a relatively easy install, especially with the video provided by etrailer. I don't pull trailers, only use it for carrying my bike. Not sure if I'd trust to pull trailer long ways. I am proud I was able to do this.

Called and talked to Brendan, he knew his products, understood what I needed and explained everything clearly and w/o making me feel like a was clueless.

He recommended the Draw-Tite after we spoke.

I ordered it and soon after we talked received an email from Brendan telling me it had shipped. He also included links to installation and tips. Was not expecting that.

The hitch was shipped for free and arrived exactly when promised. The box was a little beat up but the Hitch was fine, it was wrapped in 30 feet of paper.

The instructions and videos were perfect - I knew exactly what to do and what to expect. I installed the hitch myself (yes it would have been helpful to have a 2nd set of hands - however it fit right on the car with just a little fiddling to get the cross member bolt aligned.

Instructions were clear and eTrailer videos on YouTube were perfect.

I like the quality of the hitch, really robust, fit and finish was great. All the mounting hardware was included. Only slight issues was drilling he 11/16 home on the cross member of my X5 - was good that Brendan sent the installion videos prior, otherwise I wouldn’t have had the correct size still bit (11/16 is larger than any of the bits I had, and I have a lot - good new thought now i’ve Added N 11/16 bit to my collection!)

I’m not going to tow, at least not anytime soon - though a class 3 hitch seems overkill, i’m using The the hitch for a bike carrier - i feel good about how sturdy it is.

Yes I will recommend ETrailer to my friends and love the Draw-Tite hitch. Special thanks to Brendan for all his help.

Worked great easy install

by:

Great value for the price. Videos accurately describe the installation process. Had a little challenge getting the rivet nut to collapse. Purchased a tool to crush the rivet nut and that worked great. Part of the challenge could have been that I did the install on the ground vice on a lift.

I trimmed the center panel on the X5 vice not using it and the install looks more complete that way. See the pic that was sent.

Definitely recommend the product.

I love the hitch. It fit my BMW X5 perfectly. I pull a 6x10 cargo trailer with it.

by:
2006 BMW X5

Easy to install with the video links provided. Perfect fit. Definitely a two man job. Hitch and wiring completed in 2 1/2 hours. Perfect fit!

by:

Arrived on time and easy to install. Great deal!! Thanks etrailer.com

The trailer hitch was delivered REALLY fast, and FREE. That things weighs a lot. I was a little nervous when I saw the box, it was pretty damaged with the hitch sticking out. I know the hitch was not damaged (it is built really well and heavy duty) but was worried about the bolts for the installation. at first I could not find them and then saw everything in the receiver opening. They are very smart to put everything safely there. I also like the video of how i will be installing the hitch and all the other helpful hints. So far I am a VERY happy customer and would buy from them again and recommend them

Everything is wonderful with my trailer hitch it works perfect. I am still very very happy. I might wind up getting the wiring harness so I can hook up lights to the trailer. Have a happy New year

the hitch and wiring are working perfectly

by:
2002 BMW X5

Install was quite easy overall - and the installation video was very helpful. It took under an hour to install with 2 people. I used a stepped drill bit so I didn't need a drill with a large chuck and didn't have to keep changing bits to get up to the 11/16" size required - it was well worth the $6 I paid for it at Harbor Freight. The cooling fins of the rear differential might be hard to work around with a bulky drill - mine was just small enough to fit.

The hitch and bolts all felt like good quality materials. So far the hitch is just for a bike rack, but hoping to acquire a tent trailer and the weight rating specifications for this should be more than enough to haul one.

by:

The hitch has worked well. Compressing the nutsert into the frame rail didn't go smoothly, but was done. Rust has already set in but I am in New England, so we paint.

by:
2006 BMW X5

I would give it a higher rating but there was a small problem with the install. The set nut that comes with the hitch would not stay put in the cross member that it go's into. Owning a Bodyshop for the past 30 years I am very familiar with these fasteners using them hundreds of times over the years. I drilled it as per the instructions but the nut didn't grab the hole like it should. I ended up welding the nut to a thin plate and welding that plate to the cross member to make it work. Having the equipment on hand made it easy for me but for the average person installing it at home it would have been a problem.

Okay I ordered this hitch and not knowing anything about this company I was happy to see they put a video on their web site for instructions. I had to go to a garage for help due to me not having a large enough drill bit to drill one hole. The weight of this hitch is great. Much larger than I thought it was going to be, It hides well into the bumper area and I have no problem with attaching my ball to it when needed. I only needed a trailer for extreme situations. Taking my Harley into the shop. lowest price I found on the WWW.

by:

Great product. Fit like a dream. The only draw back for some people would be the 11/16" hole you have to drill in the lower sub frame to install a rivet nut. I happen to have drill bits that are reduced to 1/2" shank but I'm sure a lot of people don't have one. Other than that, very satisfied. Also, I shopped everywhere and Etrailer.com had the best price with free shipping! Received the hitch in two days with regular UPS shipping. Impressive! Thanks.

by:

Great product. Limited rust after a year of use. Great price. Easy installation with basic tools! Bought with wiring harness that still works too. Easy to follow instructions.

by:
2004 BMW X5

The hitch was exactly as described. Installation was simple and straightforward with the instructions and online video. The Box arrived broken open and the hitch was hanging out of it, but the bag containing the hardware and instructions were securely attached to the hitch so nothing was lost or damaged.

by:

Hitch got delivered quickly and with all parts.
It was relatively easy to install, but please note you need a wide variety of torque wrench sizes. I found it cheaper to skip the torque wrench sets and just buy the individual sizes you need from the drawers at Home Depot/Lowe’s.
I use it to haul my 20’ boat and haven’t had any problems.

by:
2001 BMW X5

DrawTite 75492 is a perfect fit to my '01 BMW X5.
Beefy, secure.
The included printed instructions were accurate, but not very helpful (step-by-step).
However, the videos published by etrailer.com were outstanding, and I would recommend NOT attempting without watching their videos!

by:
2005 BMW X5

Looks like an great buy. Packaging needs to be better since the hitch had almost torn out of the box. All hardware was received undamaged and I look forward to installing the hitch soon.

by:
2005 BMW X5

Easy install. I appreciate the product install videos from eTrailer which is why I chose to order from them as well as I compared product shipping weights since all the brands have almost identical images. eTrailer had the heaviest (strongest) product and best instructions.

by:

Great customer service. Speedy delivery. Easy installation with instructions. I would definitely refer this company to potential buyers. David B. Has been an exceptional salesperson a d customer service representative.

by:
BMW X5

Installed on an E53 X5. With the exception of drilling one hole, the part was bolt on.

The biggest challenge was getting the bumper off. Be careful if you have an after-market exhaust. It will be very hard to get to the two bolts that hold the bumper in place. I had to virtually remove my Remus pipes from the tail, pull them off their hangers, and have someone hold them to the side to get a ratchet in place. More than doubled the duration of the job.

by:
2003 BMW X5

Prodact looks solid. Looks like great quality and very easy to install . Electrical wires are very good quality as well and very easy to install! I will be doing all installation bye my self, it is so simple!

  • 2018 BMW X5 Trailer Hitch Recommendation
The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75492 you initially purchased fits a 2000 - 2006 BMW X5 so we need to get you a new trailer hitch for your 2018 model. For that I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e84AR because it has the hidden crosstube (like the other hitch options) but it's the only hitch for your vehicle that comes with a matte black finish. This finish blends in with any black trim on your vehicle better than a glossy finish, and it's great at hiding...

Yes, the two trailer hitches we carry that will fit to your 2003 BMW X5 are the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13162 and the Draw-Tite Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver # 75492. I recommend the Draw-Tite hitch it will be easier to install I have a link to the installation of the Draw-Tite hitch. • Recommended Items Needed to Tow with a 2005 BMW X5
I recommend using the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75492 on your 2005 BMW X5. This is a Class III hitch receiver with a 2 inch receiver opening. It has a 500-lb Tongue Weight (TW) capacity and a 6,000-lb Gross Towing Weight (GTW) capacity which is the same as your X5. For wiring I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT from Tekonsha. • Towing a Trailer With 2003 BMW X5
It may be possible to tow a camper with your 2003 BMW X5, depending on the weight of the trailer when it is fully loaded. Your BMW can tow a maximum of 6,000 lbs, which is also the weight limit of the Class III hitch that fits it, the Draw-Tite # 75492. I've added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on an '03 BMW for you to take a look at. If your camper is under the weight limit and you want to tow, you'll also need Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 119250KIT....

  • Solution for Nutsert of Draw Tite Hitch for 2005 BMW X5 that Allows Bolt to Just Spin
You are going to have to find a way to hold the nutsert so that you can remove the bolt and try again. It's a pretty tricky situation getting that bolt setup right but you have to do it just like the install instructions and video show. If you push hard enough on the hitch up into the nutsert you should be able to get the hitch to hold it tight enough to the frame to prevent it from moving so that you could remove the bolt.
