Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2010 Toyota Tacoma

Just finished the complete installation of Draw-Tite hitch and Curt wiring harness on my 2010 Tacoma. I watched the eTrailer videos for both multiple times. Installation for both was exactly as described. My only challenge was the rusted bolts and nuts on this 8 year old truck. I spent about 3 hours spraying penetrating oil and slowly (and painfully) working bolts out and in. Lost my patience and rounded one head off (one out of 10, not too bad). I ended up cutting and grinding the factor weld nut off with a Dremel and replacing the factory parts with a functionally equivalent Grade 8 bolt and nut from the HW store. Wiring harness was a 30 minute job.

If I were to do this again I would go ahead and remove the bumper completely, and take the spare off as well.

eTrailer service was great - excellent videos and outstanding shipping - ordered Sunday and the package arrived Wednesday.

I have a 07 Tacoma 6Cyl. Off Road TRD with factory tow package hitch.
I called to confirm Item # 75236 was needed for replacement.
75236 looked nothing like the factory hitch on my truck. Again I called customer service.
I was told 75236 was the hitch for my truck.
The holes do not match up with frame or bumper.
I guess Im stuck with a expensive piece of black metal.
Not surprised.

The hitch looks different than the original, but have you tried installing the new hitch?

As far as I know, it is original hitch installed from factory. I purchased the 2007 Tacoma in 2014. Its possible the hitch could have been replaced between 2007 and 2014 with a aftermarket. I did get the 75236 installed. Everything seems good. However, It was very difficult. I attached some pictures below. Thank You.

I waited till the last minute to get my truck setup for trailer towing (moving my recent graduate to her new job/home). Used the express shipping. Everything arrived on time.

I installed this myself so it took a while (2 hours). A second set of hands would have helped. First tip: Use some tie down straps (flat nylon) and loop around your closed tailgate and the bumper. This will keep the bumper in place when you loosen the bolts. Second tip: I used a car jack from my wifes car to help lift the hitch in place. Balance the hitch on the jack and use some wire to hold it to the jack.

I also used a Curt no-splice wiring harness. This was simple to install. Hardest part was getting the darn connectors unsnapped.

Watch the vids on etrailer and anyone can do this themselves.

by:
2007 Toyota Tacoma

My hitch arrived quickly, and installed as described without any additional modifications to my 2007 Toyota Tacoma. It will allow me to pull larger trailers than the bumper hitch, and more importantly this hitch will allow me to use a drop hitch to keep my trailers level. I still have to install the wiring harness, but I would recommend this Draw-Tite hitch to anyone with a Tacoma.

by:

I put this bumper on by myself, but it will be easier as a 2 person project. If you do decide to DIY make sure you have the right tools for the job!!! I went old fashion with a breaker bar, deep sockets, 3” extension, ratchets and some PB blaster. A one hour job took me the whole day. Instructions are easy to follow, but I would also watch the video from e-trailer on installation procedures. I found it was best to loosen the bumper brackets closest to the bumper because you had better leverage than if you loosened following the instruction. A right angle impact wrench will be your friend because a couple of boos on the bumper are recessed towards the rear of the bumper and there is little room to maneuver with regular tools and extensions.

2014 Toyota Tacoma

I had received multiple quotes to install a hitch on my 2014 Toyota Tacoma. All were around $400. So I did a little research and found the etrailer.com site. I found I could buy the hitch, the wiring harness and ball myself for less. The installation video they provided me gave me the confidence I could do the install myself. Now it's on and the entire process couldn't have been easier. If you can use a socket wrench and screw driver you can install your own hitch. Piece of cake!

by:
2005 Toyota Tacoma

Bought a new internal bumper support and hardware at the same time. I installed this by myself without a jack or lift. I was shocked when I had the whole bumper and receiver on in about 15 minutes. But I was lucky that I had a new Tacoma frame about 2 years ago so not too rusty. This product r seems very well built. I will have to drill a few holes to attach the 7 round plug plate.

by:
2012 Toyota Tacoma

Got my hitch in just about in the time frame I was suppose to. Pretty easy in theory to install but there is some advice to offer. Make sure you get some PB Blaster on those rusty bolts on the Tacoma. Those fine threads make it hard enough to ratchet off but when they got rust on them...oh boy does it take some time and effort. But it was an easy install outside of that and the wiring kit went really smooth. Very happy with this purchase.

by:

Purchased this receiver hitch for my 06 Tacoma. Was approximately a 2hr install by myself, with socket set and a floor jack to support and hold the unit in place. Uses existing holes. Fit like a glove.

by:

I love the hitch and wiring harness i purchased for my truck, installation was as easy as it said it would be and website videos were extremely helpful. Thanks to everyone at etrailer for all the hard work in providing the perfect accessories for my vehicle.

by:

This piece of equipment is well made. The installation went very well in a small amount of time. The instructions were clear and concise. I was impressed with the overall process from start to finish. I will certainly recommend others to Etrailer.com.

2007 Toyota Tacoma

Perfect fit. It looks great, mounted easily and performs as it should. Customer support at etrailer.com is awesome. They are quick to answer questions and provide advice.

by:

Quality product, fast shipping. Installation would be easier with two people, I installed alone using jack stands and a floor jack. Looks good on the truck, barely noticable... this is my third hitch purchase from etrailer.com.

by:
2006 Toyota Tacoma

I put the hitch on yesterday. It fit perfect I was very pleased. The only thing wrong was the box that it came with.

by:
2009 Toyota Tacoma

This is the second car I have installed etrailer hitches on and both were easy to install and made of high quality material. My other hitch was installed
in 2009 and still looks like new. I installed this second hitch on my 2005 toyota tacoma truck. I plan on towing a small trailer or camper. I didn't feel
comfortable with a ball on the bumper. This hitch is so well made and designed that I now have peace of mind pulling a trailer. Needless to say, it fit like a glove.

Thanks so much.

Well made product, performs very well.

by:
2010 Toyota Tacoma

The price was right and the trailer hitch was delivered around about on schedule . The hitch is well made, good welds and pretty substantial in materials and build. It fit perfectly and had it not been for very rusty bolts holding the number to the frame bracket that had to be removed to fits the shims under them the fitting would have been straight forward and much quicker to install This is the fault of the Toyota bolts that have been through 9 BY winters and not a fault of the two hitch.I
The fitting instruction provided are not very clear but there is an excellent video on the etrailer web site that I used to guide me.
The only issue I have with the hitch is that there were a few small areas with exposed metal. I had some spray paint on hand so sprayed a few coats on a couple of days before I fitted it. I would recommend this hitch and etrailer.

It has stood up really well to the MY winter weather and all the salt that is copper on our roads. Very impressed still with the quality. Great product compared to my previous UHau Trailer hitch that list its paint inside acyeR. No such problem with my retailer not hitch.

by:

Primarily used for a bike rack for 2 bicycles, used many times including a vacation to Maine, it worked flawlessly.

by:

Installation went well! Nothing too difficult. Would recommend having two people, and soak the bolts with a oil to help removal.

by:

Overall it was a great experience dealing with etrailer. The order shipped fast at a good price. The only problem I had was the packaging. The box had two holes in it when it arrived with part of the hitch protruding out the hole. There was slight paint wear on the protruding point but it is back where it mounts so not noticeable when installed. I would definitely use and recommend them again but their packaging needs more padding at sharp corners.

I see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for your reference. I have also sent this over to our customer service department.

by:

This hitch was easy to install. Ran into unremovable parking sensors on install, but held up bumper with two hydrolic stools. Ten bolts removed, 14 bolts replaced, easy.

2015 Toyota Tacoma

After receiving a recommendation from my local [mechanic shop] manager to check out etrailer, I purchased the Draw-Tite Max trailer hitch receiver. My overall experience remains positive because of the excellent website, price point, free shipping, and delivered product. While I haven't installed the hitch, I have no reason to doubt the quality, nor do I expect the installation to be complicated. Thank you, etrailer.

As advertised, the eTrailer website drilled down on the right hitch for my 2010 Toyota Tacoma. Although I let the guys at Meineke install, it took less than an hour and looks great, tight and even welding... My local Meineke guy use to work from the Toyota Service Center down the road and, even though I wanted him to consider upgrading the bolts/washer set provided, he had installed many and knew the bolt set with the hitch was good. • Picking Out Rise/Drop Ball Mount for 2005 Explorer SportTrac Towing 15 Forest River Wolf Pup 16BHS
I attached an FAQ that details how to pick out the correct ball mount. But without more info from you I cannot tell you exactly what you need right now. Picking out the correct ball mount will allow your trailer to sit as level as possible. This is not something that is vehicle specific. It depends on the hitch height and the height of the trailer coupler. Basically you will first measure the height from the ground to the top of the receiver opening on the hitch while on level ground. Next,...

If you have a regular Tacoma then you'd be fine using that hitch. If you do have an X-Runner model then I'd recommend going with the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98850, which is a fit for both the X-Runner and regular models.
