Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

The good, the bad, and the ugly. The good is that I have used the hitch a few times and it is solid. No problems with loosening up or rattling. It arrived when expected. Hitch is at a good price and I would definitely buy it again or another to suit a different vehicle. I bought a 5' x 8' cargo trailer. This combo is sweet. Yes, that is a 2013 Ford Escape. Watch your load weight and all is good to go. The bad is that I can't use my foot to trigger the hatch to close no matter where I put my foot. Installation was done by an auto shop. The young man in photo learned a valuable lesson from this install. Watch the ENTIRE video on how to install. I played it from my phone for him, but he stopped watching midway through...lost bolts due to pulling the wire too hard. That made a 30 minute install into a 5 man, 2 hour install. Not kidding! The ugly is with the shipping. The box was DISTROYED. My brand new hitch was scrapped up, sticking out on both ends, and if the hardware wasn't tapped like crazy to the center of the hitch, I wouldn't have been able to mount it. Well, that's it in a nutshell.

Always great service from etrailer. It's remarkable to me how fast the item arrived on my doorstep. I know I'm not too far from Wentzville but really guys, ordered late pm Saturday and it's here noon Tuesday! Have not installed the hitch yet but if it's like the others from etrailer I'm sure it will be a piece of cake.

2018 Ford Escape

I got the hitch for a 2018 Escape S to haul a trailer and use a bike carrier. It is visible and hangs down lower than other models, but I didn't need to lower the muffler to install it. It fit perfectly, all the holes lined up and I pulled the bolts through with ease. I didn't want to loose the bolts after removing the pull wires so I fabricated a flat plastic clip to keep them in place. This is my 2nd hitch from Etrailer and I recommend them to everyone.

by:

Hitch shipped quickly. Followed video instructions and honestly the only way it could have been easier to install is if etrailer had hand delivered it and installed it for me. Also purchased wiring kit and video was just as easy to follow. Total time to install was about 3 hours including wiring! Time would have been shortened if I had a helper to assist. Using this for a small trailer.

This hitch came so well wrapped I was totally impressed .. because it’s heavy but I love it .. Had pep boys install it .. it’s on my car and leaving tomorrow With my bike attached to it .. super pumped !!!! Ps my hubby checked out all hitch & reviews .. he did and excellent job .. going to enjoy it for a long time

2016 Ford Escape

Perfect fit. This receiver was a fairly simple install for what I would describe as a very poorly designed vehicle rear undercarriage by Ford. I had to use a dremel grinding bit to make the access openings slightly larger to fit the hardware through but other than that, no alterations to the vehicle were neccessary like some other manufacturer's require. Great product and shipped quickly.

by:

Excellent product and easy installation. Used for a bike rack and light weight trailer, would recommend this hitch!

by:
2017 Ford Escape

the hitch was not in a box it looked like they put it in a big plastic bag and then taped it all up put a shipping label on it and sent it and it arrived to me with gouges out of the receiver (have to file it down so it doesn't cut anybody) and a lot of the paint chipped off the hitch itself very poor packaging!!!

Im sorry to see that your hitch has received some scratches on it due to shipping. This does tend to happen and when it does, we recommend using a Rust-oleum type paint to cover up any scratches and prevent corrosion in the future during use. I have a link below for your reference. I have also sent this information over to our Customer Service Department for them to get into contact with you.

Installation was easy and completed in 20-30 minutes. Great fit and finish.

by:

This is a solid hitch and has pulled my utility trailer and boat without any problems. The installation wasn’t too difficult and the video definitely made it easier. Take your time and be sure to keep a finger on the bolt as you remove the pull wire and put the nut on at least a couple of threads so it won’t fall back inside the frame. I did the job by myself and used a floor jack to lift the hitch into position but another pair of hands would help. It took me around an hour to complete the job.

The hitch continues to be strong and tight and performs just as it did on day one. A quality product.

by:

Excellent Service. Debbie was very helpful in making sure I ordered the correct hitch for my vehicle. I placed my order on Monday, it shipped the same day and arrived at 5PM on Wednesday with all required hardware. The instructions for the Draw-Tite hitch were very clear and the installation was very easy. Installation can be done solo but having another set of hands to help hold the hitch makes it go much smoother. I highly recommend eTrailer and Draw-Tite hitches.

The trailer hitch package I purchased from you included all parts required. The installation instructions were fine but essentially unnecessary since I viewed the online installation video. The hitch went on without incident and fit like a glove. I just used it to tow a trailer from Florida to Maryland. Everything went well.

Thanks again,

Very easy to install using the etrailer video. I did it myself with the Escape on the ground, no jacks. I just put several blocks of wood to hold up one end. Have not had a single problem with it in a year.

2013 Ford Escape

This product was installed on a 2013 Ford Escape. The hitch fit the vehicle well. The holes in the hitch matched those of the frame perfectly. The special chase wire to feed the bolts through the box frame worked well; it was easier to feed the wire through from the small holes to the big hole in the base of the box frame. NOTE: The bolt heads were just slightly too big to fit through the hole in the box frame. This added about an hour of time to hammer the bolts through the hole. Filing the hole to accommodate the bolts ahead of time may have been easier. Total installation time was two hours. The hitch is unobtrusive. WARNING: The kick gate feature no longer works with this hitch installed!

Thanks for letting us know. We've got videos from the hitch manufacturers showing that the hands free lift gate still works in a couple of sweet spots, just to the inside of the exhaust tips. We'll get a 2013 Escape into our shops and test it ourselves and we'll update information on our site that will clarify how the hands free lift is affected by all hitch models offered.

2013 Ford Escape

I ordered the receiver for my wife's 2013 ford escape because the description said it wouldn't interfere with the hands free lift gate sensors like I heard on some of the other units. Well my wife and I couldn't be more happier. No issues whatsoever! I installed it by myself per the installation video and it took less than 30 minutes. Great product and service.

The trailer hitch looks good. It took a local mechanic less than an hour to install. It allows me to pull a small trailer (approximately 1,000 LBS.) with loads weighing up to 1,500 LBS., which takes care of most of my hauling needs.

Great instructions and assembly aids for what I considered a bit of a tricky installation. The hitch works flawlessly, and as far as I can tell doesn't interfere at all with the back-up sensors. I am completely satisfied.

I have a 2016 Ford Escape and ordered this hitch for my vehicle. It fit on my vehicle perfectly. The product came quickly and was protectively wrapped. My mechanic put this on the car easily. I am very pleased with the hitch, I use it to haul a cargo rack when the family and I go on little trips. It allows to have more room in the vehicle. We are very satisfied with the product and would buy from etrailer.com again for a trailer hitch for other vehicles. They were very friendly and fast and easy to order from. Thank you!

Product Support helped me make the right choice of hitch for my needs, time frame, and vehicle. They were so nice!!! The hitch arrived even earlier than anticipated!!! I can't speak for the installation directly as my husband did the installation; but I can tell you that at 6:30 a.m. the hitch was in the box and the hubster was sleeping, and at 9:00 a.m. the hitch was completely installed and the lawn half mowed. The bike rack is on and we're enjoying some fall cycling. Thank you e-trailer!!!

2018 Ford Escape

The class II hitch (PN 36524) installed on my Ford Escape easily and exactly as described in the included instructions and the excellent video on the website. I installed it alone with some wood blocks and a large tweezers to hold the bolts in place after removing the spring wires.

I also installed the wiring harness (PN 118715). The video shows how to install the harness an the outside of the vehicle. I could not find a video for an internal installation that I wanted but the written instructions were sufficient.

etrailer's website and support information is excellent.

by:

After receiving my 2nd hitch due to shipping and damage issues I was finally able to install it on my vehicle. I was excited to install this hitch because it didn't require the removal or lowering of the exhaust. That being said, it still wasn't super easy to install. I planned on it taking me about 30 to 45 minutes but instead it took me an hour and a half. As others have referenced, there is very little clearance when installing this hitch. You absolutely need a 2nd set of hands to help with the install. Additionally, the forward passenger side bolt is almost impossible to reach. I was very scared the bolt was going to fall back into the frame once I removed the guide wire while trying to screw on the nut. Additionally, there is so little clearance on that bolt that it's impossible to torque down. The only wrenches small enough to get back to the nut are crescent or combination wrenches. I had to guesstimate how much to tighten it by comparing the amount of threads visible on the other 3 torqued nuts to determine proper torquing. I did save some time not having to drop the exhaust like I have on previous installs. Overall the installation took longer than expected.

by:

The hitch was easy to install and works great for my needs. I primarily use the hitch for to attach a bike rack so I can carry 2 bikes on the rear of my car while the car is attached to a tow dolly towed behind my RV. Very pleased with the hitch.

This is a great trailer hitch. I use it to mount my four bike bicycle carrier. My next door neighbor and I attached it to my Ford Escape. It went on easily. It's always a good feeling to get a job done on ones own instead of paying for the expert.
