Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Fits & easy to install

by:

The step by step video made the installation very easy. The hitch arrived very quickly to my house. I thought that it would be more hidden for a hidden hitch. Though it is impossible for it to be any more hidden than it is based on the structure of the undercarriage of the car.

by:

My entire experience in ordering and installing a Hidden Hitch trailer hitch for my 2012 Subaru Outback was fantastic! My order was processed quickly and the hitch arrived sooner than originally anticipated. Installation was easy - although it took a bit longer than predicted because I needed to purchase a 1-1/8" bit to drill two access holes for installation. The hitch looks great and I saved a lot of money by doing it myself vs. having the dealer install a hitch. Thank you!

by:

I'm sure the product itself is fine, but I wish etrailer.com added a Big Bold warning on this that "We strongly recommend buying the Class III for $10 more". I realized it too late i.e after I received the order that I should've gotten the Class III for almost the same money and exactly the same amount of installation effort/cost.
A local store said that they don't even carry the Class II because it doesn't sell as well.

So here BUY THE CLASS III HIDDEN HITCH INSTEAD OF THIS ONE.

by:

Product showed up with all included parts and in perfect condition. All together it took me about 45 min to install by myself. The instructions were spot on for the installation. I installed the hidden hitch on a 2014 Outback and did it on the ground in the driveway. The only thing I would suggest is to put the car on jack stands to give you a little more room, but not neccessary. My favorite part is that the hitch is 4.5 inches under the rear bumper so as long as you don't have a reciever plugged into it there is no chance of walking behind the car and busting your shin on it. If you've even done that, you would know that this is a big plus. I would highly recommend this hitch for Outback owners.

2012 Subaru Legacy

beautiful fit. solid construction great price

by:

Installed in about a hour by myself, would of been a little easier with someone to put on the nuts as I held it. Not bad overall. Came a little scratched up from shipping, but nothing to worry about.

by:

Shipped quickly, I installed it by my self in 90 minutes. Looks great! The Video is very Helpful!

2010 Subaru Outback Wagon

Excellent video on how to install. Went just as described. Would definitely purchase here again.

by:

Part arrived quickly and with free shipping! It fit well and was only moderately difficult to attach. But that was not due to the part...it was due to the vehicle construction limitations. I'll try to take and send a picture in the near future.

Thanks,

Mike B.

by:

HITCH INSTALLED EASILY. I FOUND IT EASIER TO REMOVE THE EXHAUST (TWO NUTS) THAN TO LEAVE IT HANGING. IT MADE IT EASIER TO DO THE DRILLING ETC. THAT WAS NEEDED FOR INSTALLATION.

Subaru Outback Wagon

This is a great product, it fit my Subaru Outback perfectly the holes lined up exactly. It was very easy to install and it came with all the hardware and instructions that you need. After reviewing the instructions and parts it took about one hour to install.

by:

The hitch came as the sales rep. said it would. The install was done start to finish in just under one hour. The only different thing I did from the video was to simply remove the muffler to get it out of the way. Thanks again.

by:

The web site made shopping, ordering, viewing instructions and product information very efficient, and user friendly.I got a very good deal on the products I ordered, and had my delivery even quicker than predicted.Installation was painless, and exactly as stated.Product quality and satisfaction are excellent.Nice job guys

by:

Excellent product and the instructions were great. I decided to gain entry from the top and after pulling the panels off from the wagon area I was able to enlarge the existing holes and feed the retainer and bolt down from the top. This meant that I did not need to drill into the frame.

by:
2012 Subaru Outback

Received my hitch in less than 4 days! All the instructions and parts were included. This is a real sturdy hitch and should last the life of my 2012 Subaru Outback! The installation video really help. Thanks

2013 Subaru Outback Wagon

Hitch installation was relatively easy. The T-One wiring harness was defective, but customer service replaced it immediately. Everything arrived in three days - Excellent. Would highly recommend etrailer.

by:

Great product. George, Sam and Katherine at eTrailer.com kept me informed of the order progress right up to delivery. I opted to remove the rear bumper instead of drilling in the frame. Complete installation took 4 hours.

by:

The web video made the installation very easy. Everything went together as shown. The quality of the hitch was excellent as expected. Especially like the little hints contained in the video, i.e. supporting the exhaust system with a strap when removing the exhaust hangers. Saved a bunch of dollars by doing the installation myself.

by:
2011 Subaru Outback Wagon

Ordering was easy.Delivery arrived on time. Instructions made the job easy.It took me about 90 minutes to install, working with the car on the ground. Everything fit together very well. The wiring harness was a cinch to install .I saved about 400 dollars vs factory hitch. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO RECOMMEND YOUR PRODUCT . GREAT JOB.

This is the second hitch I have ordered and installed from etrailer. The online tutorials are excellent and extremely helpful. If you can turn a wrench, you can install a hitch and wiring from etrailer!

by:

Delivery was quick. The installation on my 2011 Subaru Outback was as advertised and relatively painless for a novice. The instructions and wiring video were very helpful. I would definitely recommend etrailer for anyone else that is installing a hitch.

my wife's 2011 subaru outback. very fast shipping, and the parts are as described. installed it on the floor with the car jacked up on the driver side in 1 hour.
very easy install after watching video on etrailers site. the coolest thing on the install was having my wife under the car with me to put it in place at least for 5 min. she might be sophisticated, but i got that extra set of hands to line it up. lol.

What a deal! Ordered my hitch & wiring and two days later it arrived! The instructions/videos on this site and with the hitch made it a breeze to install. I'm 70 yrs. old and had NO problems. Just make sure you have a proper and sharp METAL hole saw and your tools laid out. My Outback is new, so, I just removed the muffler, then drilling and fishing the bolts were easy! It took about half an hr. for the actual install. My wife even helped. I highly recommend E-TRAILER for everyone and will be back for anything else I need.

  • Will the Thule Roadway Bike Rack fit a Draw Tite Hitch 36493
The Draw Tite Hitch part # 36493 that you referenced is also a 1-1/4 inch hitch so your Thule Roadway part number 912XT that is designed for a 1-1/4 inch hitch would work well in it. I attached an install video for the hitch for you to check out as well.

  • Best Hitch Recommendations for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
For your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon the Class III hitch I would recommend is the EcoHitch part # 306-X7601 as the overall winner. It has the higher Class III towing capacities, doesn't require the stabilizer strap when carrying a bike rack like the Curt, but also because it only has the hitch opening that hangs down below the bumper so it's the least visible. It is the most expensive though so the next best option is the Draw Tite part # 75673 which is still a great hitch but it has a visible...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2017 Subaru Outback 3.6R
For a Class III hitch, I'll typically recommend the Curt product because they do a slightly nicer job on their powder coat finish than Draw-Tite does. Curt offers both a traditionally styled Class III hitch, part # C13206 which would have the entire hitch visible from the rear and a mostly-concealed hitch, part # C13410 which would have the crossbar of the hitch concealed behind the bumper with the only visible portion of the hitch being the receiver tube and the safety chain hoops. • Can Thule Camber Bike Rack be Used in 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch
Yes, the Thule Camber 2 Bike Rack # TH9058 can absolutely be used in a 1-1/4 hitch like the Draw-Tite # 36493 that fits your 2010 Subaru Outback (assuming it is not the Sport model). The Camber has a 1-1/4 inch shank so it will fit perfectly! I do recommend using the Snug Tite hitch lock # THSTL2 to lock this bike rack to your trailer hitch and protect your investment. I have added links to video reviews of the Snug Tite lock and Thule Camber for you to check out as well.

For a 4-pole trailer wiring harness to go along with the Class II hitches made for your 2017 Subaru Outback Wagon, Draw-Tite # 36493 and Curt # C12136, you can use Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118467. This kit does include a powered taillight converter that draws power for the trailer lights directly from the battery to ensure that your vehicle wiring cannot be overloaded by power demands from the trailer. • Ball Mount for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon With Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch
The correct ball mount for the Draw-Tite # 36493 trailer hitch on your 2018 Subaru Outback is the Draw-Tite Drawbar # 36051. This ball mount comes with a hitch pin though you will need a hitch ball as well, depending on the size of your trailer's coupler; you will either need 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # 19258 or 2" Hitch Ball # 19256. • Comparing Curt Versus Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receivers For a 2019 Subaru Outback
I recommend the Curt # C12136 over the Draw-Tite # 36493 for your 2019 Subaru Outback. The Curt is not only made in the USA but it also is going to be much easier to use. The Curt sits more flush with your rear bumper while the Draw-Tite sits further in. This means you will have to get on the ground level to install most of your ball mounts or hitch mounted accessories. I recommend installing the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C56040 when you install the receiver. This will...

  • Comparing Class II Trailer Hitches for 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Class II hitch I recommend for your 2018 Subaru Outback Wagon is the Draw Tite hitch part # 36493 if your plan is to carry a hitch accessory like a bike rack or cargo carrier as it does not require a stabilizer strap like the Curt does. If you are looking for the most hidden option the EcoHitch part # 306-X7267 is the way to go as only the hitch opening hangs down below the rear bumper. Installing a trailer hitch like the Curt Class II Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12136 on your 2016 Subaru Outback can effect your vehicle's ground clearance at the rear. The cross tube of the trailer hitch will sit below the vehicle, as seen in the photo I have attached from the installation instructions, which can cause the hitch to limit your vehicle's ground clearance. • Why Does Curt Require Stabilizing Straps for Hitch-Mounted Bike Racks but Draw-Tite Does Not
The stabilizing straps are a warranty requirement that Curt recommends to help support the hitch. The strap reduces some of the tongue weight load on the hitch, reduces the tendency for attached items to move around while the vehicle is in motion, and prevents some vertical shock from being transferred to the hitch when going over bumps. Using a strap such as Item # 18050 with a Curt hitch will maintain the warranty and provide additional support. I've attached a review video that shows...

  • Should I Use Bike Rack Stabilizing Strap on my Subaru Outback
Hi, great question and the short answer is no. While per manufacturers specs it is not required to use a stabilizing strap with the Draw-Tite # 36493, use of one is a judgement call that really depends on your situation. Please consider the weight of bike rack and the load being carried, I would also consider the terrain; how rough of a ride are you inflicting on the load? • Carrying Four Bikes with 2011 Subaru Outback w/ Factory Class I Trailer Hitch
The hitch and bike rack manufacturers all agree that no more than two bikes should be carried on any bike rack used on a Class I receiver hitch. The limited tongue weight capacity (maximum amount of downward force that can be safely applied to the hitch) is one reason, but additional bikes after the first two move the load further rearward away from the receiver tube. As the distance between the load and the receiver tube increases, more and more leverage is applied to the receiver tube....
