Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan

Today, on this 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, we're going to review and install a Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, Part Number 76192.This is what the hitch looks like when installed on our Tiguan. You notice it sits below the bumper and fits through an opening that we made right here. A little close detail is that we have a 2" wide opening, the standard for Class III receiver hitches. We also have a 5/8 of an inch diameter hole right here for your hitch pin or your locking hitch pin.We have a smaller diameter hole here, which is used for J-Pin stabilization pin, which only works with these hitches that have two holes like this. This is a great hitch to use with any accessories that don't have their own anti-rattle device. On the bottom here, we have our common inaudible 00:00:43 loops right here, and looking straight on you can see the rest of the receiver hitch goes to the left and right side of the vehicle, and is hidden by the bumper. So, it makes for a nice, neat fit.Take a look off to the left hand side, you can see there's a small metal bracket coming over to the plastic here.

This is a mount for your electrical brackets if you ever want to install a 4-pole, 6-pole, or 7-pole connector. For your bigger connectors outside of a 4-pole flat, you'll probably have drill out a hole right here to make room for it.Now, weight rating for a hitch are 675 pounds of tongue weight, which pushes down on the hitch, and then the pull weight is going to max out at 4,500 pounds. Now, this is the same weight rating for weight distribution as well. So, when you use a weight distribution or spring bars, you're not going to increase the capacity of the hitch. Also, you want to double check with the owner's manual or your dealership to make sure this vehicle can pull those kinds of weights.Next, we'll go ahead and give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier.

From the center of your hitch pin opening to the outside edge of the bumper, it's going to be about 4". From top receiver opening down to the ground for your ball mount measurement, it's going to be 15". Now, go ahead and show you how we installed the hitch.First part of our install is that we have to trim some of the bumper to make room for a hitch. So, we need to find the center of the bumper. To find my center, I measure on the outside edges fastener from here to here, which came out to be 24".

So, our center was right here at this point. So, I'm going to make a mark. Then, we'll do our measurements from that centerline mark. Our measurement say about 3" wide, so 1-1/2" on each side will give us our width. We need to come backwards about 1-1/2", which comes out to about right there.

So, this whole section we'll remove. I'm going to use a rotary tool to make my cut.Use a knife to clean up the edges. Using the original centerline mark here, I'm going to transfer it up to the top, about right here, on the vertical portion; measure out 3" on both sides so we have a 6" width. So, we're going to measure straight up to the top and cut all this off. Now, I have marks. We'll go ahead and cut these guys out. This bottom edge I'm going to score with a knife and bend it out of the way. Once again, we'll clean up our edges.Next up our exhaust has to be lowered to make it easier to install the hitch. Doesn't have anything to rest against, so I'm going to use a cam buckle strap to help hold it up while I'm working on it. I'm just going to hook up to the springs on each side, cinch up the strap. Then, I'll use it to help lower it after I have the two fasteners removed. We'll need a 13mm socket to remove this bolt. That was the driver side. One more time over on the passenger side. I'm going to use my strap, lower it just a little bit.On each side of the frame, there'll be two pre-existing fasteners here and here. We're looking at the driver side. This is towards the outside. The same thing is going to be over on the passenger side. We'll use a 16mm socket to remove these bolts. This point, get an extra set of hands, and we'll push the hitch up in position. Probably have to push it further back, way further back, so it can clear the bumper cover. So, that means it'll be pushed up against the exhaust a little bit. Then, back up. There you go.This is going to be a real tight fit to put up in there, so definitely need some patience to get the bolt worked in. This is going to be a really tight fit going up in here. So, have to maneuver back and forth a little bit, and it may help to use a jack on the end of the hitch to help move it up and down to line this hole to get it threaded in. Once you have it started, we can go ahead and snug it down. If you want to leave it loose, but we'll just take up the slack until we get all our hardware in. Then, we'll tighten them down for good.Well, the bolt's installed. Now, I'll torque them down as specified in the instructions.Hitch is done. Let's go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. Now, cinch it for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, Part Number 76192, on this 2018 Volkswagon Tiguan.

etrailer.com - This is my second purchase from etrailer.com and a second great experience. Order was processed immediately and shipped promptly. Received as expected. 2 thumbs up! Draw-tite - Great quality product. No flaws. Powder coating is nice and thick and fabrication is great. It does fit like a glove, do not confuse this with other reviews stating it does not fit because it is too narrow to fit the frame. Most automobile frames have under-coating which does makes it more difficult to fit. I used 2 auto floor jacks to gently push hitch into place. - Overall the hitch will take some persuasion to get into place. This is not a fitment issue. I used a combination of tools including my floor jacks and a dead-blow hammer to get the hitch into place and align the mounting holes. - I chose this hitch specifically because you do have to trim the fascia. I like this because it looks OEM and provides more clearance as the receiver is 2+ inches higher than other hitch options that hang below the fascia. 722998

I am very happen with my decision to buy this model hitch for my Tiguan. I was hesitant about having to cut the bumper but the final result looks really good. Install was straight forward and not too difficult. The cut I made is smaller than the directions show and I dropped the exhaust completely so the install would be a little easier. etrailer was a great place to order and I will definitely use them again in the future. 708176

Easy to install. Took my time and had no issues. Went against the recommendation for the large hole and trimmed mine out a lot smaller. Looks better that way to me. Only thing was the undercoating on the car made fitting it very snug. But that’s a car issue and not the hitch. You could trim it away if you wanted or just use a small jack to help maneuver it in to place. Would buy again for sure as it’s hardly noticeable 713292

Needed some physical persuasion from my friend Jack. He can lift 2 tons. I wouldn’t have needed his help if the mounting flanges were 1/8” further apart (or the mounting points were closer together, not sure whose fault this was). This is the 4th hitch I’ve installed, all different vehicles, and I never had that sort of trouble. This seemed like it would be easy. It took 2-3 hrs. Now that it’s on, it’s pretty good. 527698

etrailer was great to deal with!!! Ordered on a Friday and had it by Tuesday. Free shipping and all. Finally got it installed tonight. Took my son about 45 min. Now he is a VW technician so that probably speeded the process up. I was worried about cutting the facia but it went very smooth and the hitch looks like it came from the factory. Glad I went with the Draw-tite. Ready for riding tomorrow. 551464

I have a 2018 VW Tiguan. I tried a Curt receiver, but it hung too low below the vinyl fascia, and I could see that there would be problems with bottoming out when going over bumps. So I switched to the Draw-Tite - it actually goes through the vinyl fascia, giving it about 3" more clearance to the road. Now bumps are no problem. Holds my bike rack well and feels secure. 501151

The product arrived ahead of time and I started the initial installation of cutting the back facia to insert the hitch through the hole. I'm now going to have to take it to my mechanic for final install as it is to heavy and cumbersome to do by myself without a lift. It looks great and is exactly what I was looking for. Looking forward to using it. 517327

Nearly impossible to fit without removing the bumper. "Trimming" isn't exactly what is required. No wonder they didn't have a video of this model, only the Curt without trimming. I wish I had ordered it instead. Unfortunately, I'm now stuck with a $144 lump of metal in my garage. 547794

Comments

Trimming of the fascia is an installation step for this hitch part # 76192. You will be trimming a 3 x 6 inch square in the bumper fascia to allow clearance for the hitch receiver. The Curt model receiver is straight down so it does not require trimming. It is not necessary to remove the bumper for installation of part 76192 or the Curt model. I have heard of some instances when the brackets that hold the exhaust hangers are welded to the frame on the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan but you are still able to remove the exhaust from the rubber hanger, lower it and leave the brackets on the frame. That will still give you enough room to bolt the hitch up there.

Just installed on our 2018 Tiguan R-Line. Overall: Arrived quick, does not detract from the the looks of the vehicle, works great. Details: Read all the installation tips. I did not have the problem some had mentioned regarding the brackets being not wide enough; fit prefectly. I'd recommend the extra set(s) of hands (which I didn't have). 1) I measured and cut the fascia(rear bumper cover) to fit as recommended. Used a drill on the corners and small hacksaw blade. Take your time. I did not cut thought the bottom or top of the plastic, just big enough to fit the receiver and bottom rings. I did not account for the plate above the hitch receiver. It does push out the plastic a bit but not noticeable. I think to make that fit you would need to cut through the top of the plastic, and I think if I let a shop do the cutting, they would not have been nearly as precise. 2) Dropping the exhaust is easy, but it's not far enough, you will need to push the muffler a few inches lower when sliding the hitch over the top before sliding it aft through the hole in the bumper. 3) I used a floor jack and a couple of jack stands, which, if you are patient and move slowly, will work, only a couple of bloody knuckles. I could not get the receiver to clear the fascia in order to slide it through the hole, but got it close enough to be able to bend the plastic out a bit and get the receiver through. 4) Biggest tip...slide all 4 bolts in the holes (front first seemed easier) and only finger tighten enough to take the weight, make sure both rear bolts are seated in the threads and then tighten all four. I didn't do this the first time and couldn't get the last bolt to bite, once the others were loosened it went in fine. Completed hitch looks really good, but since it does not extend past the rear bumper (which is why is looks great) it is a bit challenging to get a hitch pin/lock in and use the chain rings, but I'd rather have that than a hitch extending past the bumper. First use was a bike rack...I was not expecting the Tiguans rear safety assist system to not allow me to back up as it saw a "conflict". A few minutes in the menu and I figured out how to turn that off. Very pleased, much better than the dealers quote of almost $1000. I'll get to the electric hookups over the winter just in case we ever need them, but primarily installed it for bikes. No picks since it looke pretty much like the rest. Highly recommended. 565933

Happy with the build quality on this hitch, the boxing not so much. I’m two for two for hitches hanging out of the shipping box and scuffed finishes but it’s a hitch, I’m gonna use it, UPS just gave me a head start on the scratches. It fit well, wasn’t difficult to install. It would be easier with a lift or the rear of the vehicle lifted to have the cutting portion of the install at a more convenient level. 640935

2nd sets of hands a must!! Even then took us 1.5 hours due to distance between mounting flanges too tight as per Adam’s remarks below. We had the same problem. Had to hit it with a sledge hammer to widen the distance between flanges at the mounting points. For sure a manufacturing defect. TIPS: 1) don’t jack up the car on one side only -- lift it evenly; 2) when you cut the vinyl fascia, use a thin saw as it is difficult to cut the form as shown in my picture -- recommended by Ray. I still prefer this hitch above the CURT model due to its height and pricing. Giving it 3 stars for manufacturing defect and difficulty of installation but it earns 5 stars otherwise. 528894

I hope the manufacturer noted all the comments from customers about the width between the flanges being too tight. The product itself is excellent

It is not uncommon for hitches to flex a bit in the shipping process and for some force needed to bend them back into correct alignment. I have included a help article that does explain this in further detail.

Very easy to mount, recommend a second set of hands. I mounted myself with the help of a floor jack but wished I would have had a little help just because it was a little heavy. I would have given it more stars but the directions lack photos of the installed product and they have you cut the bottom section (the 1-1/2” x 3”) for really no reason. It didn’t need to be cut, there was enough room to put the front up above the exhaust and then back through the bumper. Luckily it can’t be seen or I really would have been upset. 479640

I picked up the Draw-Tite hitch today, followed the instructions in the eTrailer YouTube video (OK, i read the instructions that came with it, too, and took pointers from some of the other DIY comments on the eTrailer website - thanks guys) - and voila - installed! It is heavy and I did use a floor jack and a mallet to to get it up and into place. And like Jim P. said, you don't have to cut out the bottom part of the vinyl fascia. I cut a 3.5 inch square with a keyhole saw for the receiver part to go through, and a 6-inch slot on the bottom for the chain loops to go through. Looking forward to putting it to use this summer with bike rack (and my wife is talking about getting a small camper trailer...) :) Now maybe I can get rid of the webbing hanging there that I use to hold the canoe down... Thanks eTrailer! 517923

The tow hitch is good quality and the delivery was very quick. The problem is with the installation. It took about 1.5 hours because it is such a tight fit. I had to use a jack and a large hammer to get the bar in place over the frame. Once installed it looks nice. I would recommend a second person to install this tow bar, it was a challenge doing it solo. 588589

- 76192
by:
2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

Tow bar install was mostly easy as long as you heed the advice given on prior reviews. I also did minimal cutting to allow for a cleaner look, and had to use a hammer to widen the flange just a bit so it would fit. Well done reviewers and etrailer! 591120

I would have given it 5 stars, if the mounting flanges were just a tad bit wider. Getting the hitch up to put the bolts in, would have been impossible without the aid of a floor jack. I trimmed the lower fascia to be more form fitting of an opening. Overall I'm very excited to start using this! 548844

- 76192
by:

Installation is pretty straightforward. I read the reviews and decided to just cut away the minimum that is needed rather than cutting the 6"x3" piece the directions called for. This does however make it a bit more difficult as you have to put the hitch up under the vehicle and push it towards the front in order to clear the fascia, then slide it towards the rear while lining the receiver and safety loops up with your cut out. *Definitely need two people for this as it is heavy and there isn't much clearance over the muffler 612426

Great price, and looks nice. Installation was not as easy some of the reviews say. It was very tight and needed some bending, but once we got it over the lip, it fit on nicely. I'm very happy the the end result. I did not cut the top of the plastic molding like they suggested, I made the opening to fit the hitch exactly. If you cut the top of that molding, it will take away the rigidity of it. 561784

After looking over pictures and watching videos I purchased the DrawTite hitch. I liked the higher mount and, as one reviewer noted, it has a cleaner look as if it came from the factory. I looked over several pictures of installs from etrailer reviewers and noticed that one person did a nice job of custom cutting the facia for a cleaner install than what the instructions call for. Essentially this means making a cut that looks like an inverted T so the fascia sits tighter to the square tube of the receiver. I also did not cut the bottom of the fascia as shown in the instructions, instead I installed the hitch by putting the receiver end up and through the facia opening first and then lifted the rest of the hitch into place. It took a little back and forth to get the hitch flanges around the exhaust but wasn't too bad of a job. I got a great fit. Here's what I didn't like and what I had problems with, which is my reason for only 3 stars. I used a transmission jack to lift the hitch into place (several reviewers noted this and I expected to use a jack as I have always done on several prior installs). The hitch went up into place but hung up about one inch too low and bound on the frames factory undercoating. A few reviewers noted the fit was a tight. I had to drive the hitch into place with a 2 lb hammer which knocked the powder coating off the hitch on the edges and I now have unprotected metal on the hitch and the hitch flanges peeled some of the undercoating off the vehicle because the fit was really too tight. The hitch mounting flanges need to be about 1/4" to 1/2" wider to make this an easy install. Trying to get the hitch into place without using a hammer to drive it wasted a lot of time and the install took over 2 hours with the tight fit and my not wanting to drive the hitch into place. I tried jacking the hitch into place and the fit was so tight that it lifted the back of the Tiguan. The plus side is that the install does look great. 577795

Comments

It sounds like you had a bit of a flexed hitch. Since the hitches are made from a pliable steel it is possible for the brackets to bend a bit in shipping. The hitches are designed to flex with the vehicle in rough terrain. We usually recommend using a table vise or open step to sort of bend it back into place. If you have bare metal scratches you can use a rustoleum type of paint on the scratches to avoid future issues with rust. It is a good idea to check the hitch periodically for scratches that come about from flying rocks and debris and touch them up with paint.

The hitch itself is good, appears to be sturdy and welds are clean and good quality. My grief is with the tolerances. I was able to ultimately fit the bar to my 2018 Tiguan but it took more than two hours. The frame rails they mount to have a rubberized anti-corrosion (?) coating on them which really needs to be scraped down towards the rear for the bar to fit. Even then, hearty use of a rubber mallet was needed. I had a motorcycle jack that was very useful: I first cut the rear fascia trim as instructed and then attached the forward bolts first (easy fit) and then lifted the rear up with the jack. The rear bolts were a really tight fit but eventually lined up with frame holes and the rear bumper threads (wiggle the bumper a bit to make the threads catch) 574190

This was my first purchase from etrailer.com. I wasn’t sure exactly what I was going to need, so I decided to call in. I was extremely fortunate to have Nicky K answer my call. She listened carefully, described my options and placed my order. Then she followed up with me at key times during the shipping and delivery process. She even sent me a note saying that her records indicated the order had been delivered to me and she wanted to make sure I had it, and everything was perfect. I’ve now had the hitch installed, and I’m extremely pleased with the quality of it. But what made my experience with etrailer.com truly great, is the outstanding service I received from Nicky K. Thank you so much Nicky K, for taking great care of me. 727848

The installation took me about 1 1/2 hours by myself. My '19 Tiguan SE 4Motion was on ramps for easy access. I dropped the exhaust and suspended with a cargo strap for safety. I used a new box cutter and painters tape to outline the areas to cut. I only cut what was needed for the upside down T instead of the 3x6 hole in the instructions, you get a better factory look. The hardest part was getting the hitch above the exhaust and the receiver out the hole cut in the facia. Once I got it jockeyed into place I found the fit quite good, unlike other reviews I did NOT have to bend the flanges it just fit. What I did find was the two most rear bolts on my Tiguan were not in straight as you would expect, so I had issues getting them started. So I dropped the hitch and just put in the rear most two bolts, I found they had a slight angle to the rear. Once I discovered this I put the hitch back up and was able to get all 4 bolts started by hand. The rest was very easy. Other than having to cut open the facia and those two bolts not being straight this was the simplest and easiest hitch receiver I've installed, this being my 5th one over the years. 700099

Hitch was received two days after it was ordered. It took 1.5 hours to install. It would have taken less time, but I installed the hitch by myself. Everything fit well. It took me a minute to figure out that the threaded backing plates inside the channel slipped down after removing the 16mm bolts. (A VW thing, not a Drawtite problem. There are slots for your fingers to push the plates into place.) 691946

Good adjustment and fitness, seems like the Hitch came with the vehicle. I just spend more time on installation than the guide video, due when you release the screws, the Bumper’s bracket that is inside of the chassis move itself internally and miss the concentricity. 680124

The hitch was on back order when I purchased it so it took a bit longer to arrive but e-trailer kept me updated on the status. Installation was easy for the most part. Didn't have any clearance issues, but aligning the bolts was a bit challenging. I didn't cut the bottom of the bumper cover nor did I make a 6 inch cut to the face of the bumper. Instead, I made a template and used that to make a 3 1/8" cut for the hitch and 6" cut for the chain hooks to pass through. 666455

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

After watching the videos on etrailer about which hitch would best fit my needs on our new Tiguan and reading the associated reviews, it was a pretty easy decision. The delivery was faster than I expected and the instructions and online video made the installation very straightforward. The install was definitely easier with an extra set of hands! I was hesitant at first about cutting a little of the plastic below the bumper but with some very detailed instructions and careful attention to the measurements it looks completely custom made (after buffing the cut edges). Great product, great customer service. 651859

Quickest service ever. This is the Hitch you want to buy if you have an MQB Tiguan, highest rating and decent quality. As others have mentioned the fit is a bit tight. 605958

I have a 2018 VW Tiguan & installed a Draw-Tite 2" hitch. I installed the hitch by myself with the help of a floor jack & a pair of jack stands. Installation took about 90 minutes. The hitch fit perfectly and looks good. 524559

I had my body shop install this and they did it in about an hour. Looks great !!! I'm glad I went with the Draw-tite vs. the Curt even though the fascia has to be cut it looks more factory installed . 494493

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch

Do you have a question about this Trailer Hitch?

  • Availability of Photos for the Draw-Tite # 76192 on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • I have a picture for you to check out of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13381 installed on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, but unfortunately at this time (December of 2017) we have not had the opportunity to install the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76192 on a 2018 Tiguan (this has since been updated as we have installed this trailer hitch on an '18 Tiguan). The good news is that these trailer hitches install very similarly and so will pretty much look the same. The Draw-Tite...

  • Ground Clearance with Curt Trailer Hitch C12177 Installed on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • When we installed Curt trailer hitch # C12177 on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, see video link, it measured 11-1/2 inches from the ground to the top of the receiver opening. That means that from the ground to the bottom of the receiver is approximately 9 inches. There is actually a vehicle component forward of the hitch that hangs lower. For the hitch to make contact with the ground the front axle would have to be up on a very steep incline. Draw-Tite hitch # 76192 sits up higher but there...

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line
  • We do carry a hitch that is a fit for your 2018 VW Tiguan R-Line, though it is not from Curt, it is the Draw-Tite # 76192, which is a Class III 2" hitch. In terms of modification there will be some trimming required of the fascia as you can see in the accompanying cut out of the instructions (these instructions are also linked for you to check out).

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for Leased 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • Since your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is a lease you really will want the Curt hitch part # C13381 as it is a confirmed fit and does not require fascia trimming like the Draw Tite part # 76192 does. Curt requires the use of their stabilizer strap part # 18050 when using their hitch to carry a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached a review video for you to check for the strap as well.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for 2018 VW Tiguan with AWD and 3rd Row Seating
  • I checked with my contacts at Curt and Draw-Tite for hitches confirmed to fit your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan with AWD and 3rd row seating. Draw-Tite confirmed that they know of no fit issues for their hitch # 76192 and Curt advised the same for their hitch # C13381. Curt confirms a fit for their USA-made hitch # C13381 on the S, SE, SEL and SEL Premium versions of the 2018 Tiguan. Sometimes certain features on a vehicle may in fact prevent hitch installation. This might be the placement...

  • Is Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness Safe to Install on 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • If you are concerned with keeping the OEM wiring safe on your 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan then the Curt T-Connector # C56403 that you are looking at is actually the perfect solution! Yes it does tee in with the tail lights on your Tiguan but those basically just act as triggers. Since this wiring harness draws power directly from the battery on your VW and it uses an integrated module (the black box) so if anything were to become damaged from your trailer the ModuLite would stop it. The only...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 Tiguan with R-Line Package
  • I checked with Draw Tite and for your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line the Draw Tite trailer hitch part # 76192 is a confirmed fit and will work well. For trailer wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha kit part # 118765 which is a confirmed custom fit. If you wanted to do some towing you might be interested in etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball,...

  • Photos of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 76192 Installed on 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • We do have photos for you of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76192 installed on a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, which I have attached for you to check out. As you can see this hitch is not very noticeable so your Tiguan is going to maintain its look, and I've added links to the instructions as well as a video install of the hitch on an '18 Tiguan, which is the same generation as your 2019 model so the install will be the same. Also, if you plan on doing some towing with your Tiguan...

  • Comparing Ground Clearance with Curt and Draw-Tite Hitches for 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • The distance from the ground to the top of the receiver tube opening on the Curt # C12177 is approximately 11-1/2 inches. This is also true for the Curt Class III - 2 inch Hitch Receiver # C13381. If you're looking for the hitch with the best ground clearance for your 2019 VW Tiguan, the Draw-Tite Class III - 2 inch # 76192 offers 15 inches of ground clearance. To achieve this, some bumper fascia trimming is required, as outlined in the attached installation instructions.

  • Ground Clearance Under Curt C13381 Installed on 2019 VW Tiguan
  • When installed on a 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan, the underside of the Curt Class III hitch # C13381 is approximately 9-1/4 inches above the ground. For a bit more ground clearance, take a look at the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 76192. When installed, the underside of the receiver tube will be about 12-3/4 inches off the ground. This extra ground clearance is gained because the Draw-Tite hitch requires that the rear bumper fascia be trimmed so that the receiver tube sits tight against the...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • The Draw Tite Class II hitch part # 76192 is a confirmed fit for your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan and would be a great option. It has a 3,500 lb trailer towing capacity as well. For a ball mount you'd want the part # 36051, hitch ball # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or part # 19256 for 1-7/8 inch ball. For trailer wiring you'd then want the part # 119190KIT which is a confirmed fit.

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan with 3 Rows of Seats
  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 76192 is listed as a fit for all styles of the 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan so that would include models with a 3rd row of seats. We have yet to have customers state whether or not the models they have include the 3rd row of seats but all of the reviews thus far have been positive. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch...

  • Class III Trailer Hitch Fits for Canadian Version of 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan
  • The fit of a custom trailer hitch like Draw-Tite # 76192, which is made for the 2018 VW Tiguan, will be based on the version sold in the U.S. We do note this in our fit information that appears on the this item's page. In the case of your Tiguan this hitch is a confirmed fit for both U.S. and Canada versions according to my contact at Draw-Tite since both are for North America. The frame attachment points on both versions are usually the same even though other trim parts could differ. I...

  • 2 inch Class 3 Trailer Hitch Recommendation that Fits 2018 VW Tiguan R-Line
  • At this time we only have one trailer hitch that's a fit for your 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line. For that you'd want the Draw Tite part # 76192. I checked with Curt and they have not test fit the # C13381 on an R-Line model so they would not tell me if it would fit without issue. Based on your experience it sounds like it's not going to be listed ever as a fit for that version.

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line
  • We have just what you need. I recommend using the Draw-Tite # 76192 which is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver with a concealed cross tube design to give your 2019 VW Tiguan R-Line a clean, factory installed hitch look. It looks like your Tiguan has a towing capacity of 1500-lbs, so as long as your loaded trailer is under that weight, you'll also be able to tow the trailer; you'll want to confirm this capacity with your owner's manual. If you're going to be towing a trailer, you'll...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan That Does Not Need Fascia or Bumper Trimming
  • The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan that we guarantee does not require any type of trimming or cutting of the rear bumper or fascia is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13381. As you can see by the linked installation video and installation instructions, this hitch simply bolts right up to the frame of your Tiguan. • We do have photos available for the Draw-Tite hitch part # 76192 on a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan but not a 2019. The good news is that the hitch installation on both the 2018 and 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan is the same. The Draw-Tite hitch is considered a hidden cross tube design so the only portion of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver portion because the rest is hidden behind the fascia. It that being said the installation does require some fascia trimming. I have attached...
