Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

2016 Toyota Highlander XLE. Easiest wiring install ever. Unfortunately, the etrailer hitch-install video does not address replacing the driver's side underbody panel at all, it leaves you hanging whether to discard the panel or reinstall (after making modifications). That's the most frustrating part of the process: no info at all, and why I give only three stars. Only "other customer" pics and reviews helped me thru this part. Otherwise the install went pretty well, and the hitch itself looks and feels great. 792379

Per the installation instructions the drivers side underbody panel is removed before installation and is not reinstalled.

So far I am happy with the product. I plan to use it mostly for a bike rack or small trailer. Installation did not go exactly like the video in one small instance. When I installed the exhaust pipe bracket as shown there was not adequate clearance for the hitch to fit between the lower nuts and washers. I had to reverse the direction of the bolts to make room. See photo. 790794

Excellent product. Fit perfectly! The videos and instructions made the installation easy. Total time to install hitch was about 2.5 hours. 572945

2010 Toyota Sienna

This was the fourth trailer hitch and wiring harness ordered from etrailer.com and installed in different size vehicles over the past 10 years. I also ordered and installed a 7-way pin conversion kit along with an electric brake controller. This was my second such set-up in the past 5 years. The products have always been top-notch. They installed and worked as advertised without a hitch (pun intended). Their installation videos are amazing. The most satisfying part of the ordering process, however, has always been my interaction with etrailer.com sales reps and technicians. Every time I needed a specific product or had questions, a rep took take time to walk me through the process of recommending and/or selecting the exact item that best met my needs. The technicians never hesitated to explain how a product should be installed or what to expect regarding its operation. Installing a brake controller in a Toyota Sienna in one's garage without a lift can be challenging at times depending on the year and vehicle model. I have absolute confidence in etrailer.com, its products, and its support staff. I plan to continue being a loyal customer for many years. 572601

A year later the hitch and wiring harness are working flawlessly. Ive towed a custom-built cargo trailer from Georgia to Kansas. Afterwards, I towed the same cargo trailer with my motorcycle in it to the Chicago area for a conversion to a trike and then back to Kansas. Last month September 2019 I towed the same trailer full of furniture and household goods from Kansas to our vacation home in Arizona and then back to Kansas. Never a problem or concern with either the hitch or harness. Great products - strong, well built and absolutely dependable. Great investment.

After viewing the video and reading instructions I installed the hitch on my 2014 Highlander myself. Only help I needed was to hold one side up while starting the bolts. Easy task. Haven't connected the wiring harness but after viewing the videos, I expect it not to be a problem either. Saved myself $125.00 by doing this myself. Heavy duty hitch. 135478

Just installed this today. Took longer getting the covers back in place than installing it. And you do have to cut the drivers side cover. Not that big of a deal tho but a challenge getting them back on. Very heavy duty hitch! I would not call it hidden tho...full assembly visible and now we will need to be careful not to bang shins on the hitch holder even without the hitchball attached it sticks out.

Order, delivery timing, and eTrailer communications were outstanding. They even acknowledged that I had been a customer on a previous purchase 7 years ago when I purchased a hitch frame. I mounted this on a 2017 Toyota Highlander. Everything fit fine and it was easy to install. Directions were good. Know that you will need to cut the undercarriage facia on the drivers side so that it can be remounted over the hitch frame. That was easy to do with tin snips. There is also a muffler mount plate that will lower your tailpipe a few inches so that the exhaust does not hit the hitch frame. 364234

I have owned my Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver for a year now, and it has performed very well. I have only used it to hold a bike rack, but I have driven many miles with bikes attached and have had no problems thus far. I had it installed at an RV sales and maintenance business to ensure installation was done properly. 289308

This is my 2nd hitch from eTrailer. Again, great customer service, fast shipping, and perfect fit. The installation video made it easy to install. This was a one man operation. With a little "McGivering" of jack stands and hydraulic lift, this job can be done by yourself in 1 1/2 hours. The hitch came well packaged, well protected, and no problems with cardboard packaging as some other reviewer had. I did cut the driver side plastic covers just to give it a clean look. 339348

Ordered hitch on a Saturday afternoon, arrived Wednesday morning. Installed the draw-tite trailer hitch on my 2017 Highlander after watching video I found via google for the 2016 Highlander. Took about 3 hours. The hitch is solid and heavy so I set it under the vehicle on blocks as close to the frame holes as possible. Used my table saw and a hack saw to put 2 slits in the plastic under panel on the drivers side to let part of the hitch drop through. Took the panel's plastic fasteners off carefully with screwdrivers and pliers. All parts required were included and fit correctly. Written Instructions were good but I would recommend watching a video beforehand regarding cutting the plastic panel. The 2" receiver fits my carrier basket shaft and my ball mount shaft fine. I use a stabilizer J pin to keep the basket tight. The draw-tite has 2 holes in the receiver to fit a J stabilizer pin. I chose not to install the drop plate for lowering the muffler. Looks great, works great. 400623

Overall I am satisfied with the Receiver. It fits without any modifications and it looks good. I do wish it was moved up into the bumper cover a little bit more. I personally think it hangs down to much. I would have no problem trimming out the bumper cover, but that is just me. I like the tab so that you can mount the wiring plug type that you have. I was VERY disappointed by either the paint that was used or the lack of metal cleaning, because the paint just flakes off. Fortunately I was able to have it sandblasted and then powder coated. Hope the rust stays away with this process. But I shouldn't have had to do this. Overall the materials and welds are really nice and other than the paint issue I would recommend this Receiver, but only if you have the facility's to have it powder-coated. 548835

Tow hitch went on as expected, installation direction and video are spot on. Reinstalled driver and passenger plastic panels. Used a cutout tool to trim driverside plastic panel so it would fit. After a little consideration Used muffler bracket somewhat tight fit but not enough to not use the bracket. 641291

Install was pretty easy. Mine came a little scratched and with some paint chips, but they wouldn't be visible so I just went ahead and installed it. The exhaust drop bracket didn't seem necessary for my 2015 Highlander. I eyeballed the bracket before installing and tried to line it up, but it seemed to put too much stress on the exhaust system. I also didn't like that the instructions said to discard the "appearance panel" on the driver's side. I trimmed the panel and got it to fit after a few tries. I used product BK4F to mount the 4-pole for a cleaner look and easier access. 595159

First of all, a shout out is required to all the folks at etrailer.com who spent considerable up-front time with me on the phone to make sure that the product I needed and the one I ultimately selected was the ideal fit for my vehicle. Because the car was so new, there was apprehension on my part to order the hitch online but etrailer.com provided knowledgeable assurance and demonstrated above-and-beyond-the-call-of-duty due diligence on my behalf to make sure there were no issues with compatibility. The hitch receiver indeed fits. I ultimately decided to use a garage I trusted to install the hitch for me. I didn't want to roll the car onto ramps and frankly the cost to have a mechanic install it was a price anyone could digest. The guys who installed it rely on etrailer.com also so they were no strangers to the company or their products. This gave me comfort and this too ultimately went smoothly. A couple of observations: the box the hitch was delivered in suffered some trauma along the way so it resulted in a missing part. The garage improvised; It is also worth noting that etrailer.com was outstanding in helping to resolve this issue. For future installations: It is also worth noting that the installation instructions and video on your site recommend leaving one of the molded plastic undercarriage sections off (driver side). The folks at the garage however managed to customize the piece so it too could be seated in its original place for a nice custom fit. (See photos.) I watched as they cut this piece and it didn't seem like a burden to do so perhaps it something others can pursue as well. Finally, a small sticking point but when you look almost directly above the outside edge of the hitch, one side (passenger side) has a bit of reveal. I inspected underneath and all of the attachment points are symmetrical so it appears that the hitch itself may not be exactly symmetrical. It may be a manufacturing blemish of sorts and not necessarily damage during shipping as the holes in which to connect the hitch are aligned. I suspect I am the only one who notices this honestly. See for yourself in the attached photos. At the end of the day, I now have a bike rack on the back of my car and forever spared having to load 2 or more bikes on the roof. This alone is worth its price in gold or at least my happy back. 349447

Attached, you will find the photo of the draw-tite hitch installed. I was able to reinstall the driver side appearance panel by making a straight cut about 6 to 8 inches long to allow the hitch bracket to protrude. You will see in the photo that the appearance panel is there. - Kyle 407385

etrailer.com is a fantastic site! Their experts walk you through the pros and cons of each hitch they offer which I found very helpful in making my decision. Also, they provide how to videos on installation which helps in knowing what tools you'll need for the job and step by step instructions to complete the job. I am totally satisfied with the products I purchased and had the hitch installed and wiring kit in just about 2 hours time in my garage. My only negative would be the instructor for wiring the Curt wiring kit shows you taking the 4 pin connection out the back hatch and the winding it up and stowing it away when finished. I made mine permanent by running my wire through the factory grommet and mounting it to the spot on the hitch provided. Overall A+ for company, product, support and quick delivery after placing my order 836998

2015 Toyota Highlander

This is the heavier duty version of the two receivers from Draw-Tite that etrailer offers for the Toyota Highlander. It's perfect because it requires no modification or cutting to the Highlander to get it mounted. The Highlander already has the mounting holes with thread plates built into the frame and this hitch can be installed by a maintenance minded person in under an hour. I paired it with a EAZ-Lift Recurve R3 weight distributing hitch to tow a 4260 lb Forrest River Wildwood X-Lite 19DBXL and it tows beautifully. 828326

Great quality hitch. Instructions were clear. I don't believe the muffler drop bracket is necessary. I would recommend using tin snips to cut the plastic guard from over the frame and drill a hole in the plastic to put the bolt in which is furthest from the bumper. Overall, pretty easy install. I used a floor jack with a 2x4 to balance the hitch and raise/lower it as i needed to get into position for securing. 815318

The hitch works perfect. I am not very good with my hands so it took me about 3 hours to install. The video was very helpful. It's been a year now and I have no problems with the hitch at all. 801695

I absolutely loved this hitch. It was a perfect fit and installation went very smoothly. I used this hitch multiple times. It is an excellent value. Unfortunately I was in a vehicle accident and my vehicle was totaled. I was at a dead stop and hit from behind by a vehicle traveling about 55mph at the time of impact. This hitch took a direct impact and held firm in place. I strongly believe that this hitch aided in my protection. It is very solid and I would not hesitate to buy this product again in the future if I need to add a hitch to a vehicle. 786422

My neighbor, who purchased and installed a hitch, highly recommended etrailers. I purchased the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - for my 2015 Highlander XLE. Same neighbor (who has a lift) installed it for me with my limited assistance. It took about one hour to install and went together perfectly. I hauled a small trailer 500 miles with it and it worked like a champ. I also use it to haul our bikes around with an added bike hitch accessory. Customer support fantastic and product arrived undamaged and on time. 784724

  • Trailer Hitch and Towing Equipment Recommendation for 2019 Toyota Highlander
Although there are several different hitches available for your 2019 Highlander, the most popular and most often recommended are those with the concealed crossbars like the Curt Class III, part # C13394 and the Draw-Tite # 76156. My first choice among the concealed crossbar choices would be the Draw-Tite # 76156, it'll fit all Highlander models, even those with full size spare tires on aluminum rims, unlike the Curt model which has more fit limitations. The # 75896 is also a fit for...

However, the # 76156 hides the crosstube behind the bumper so all you see is the receiver tube opening and safety chain loops. The latter is becoming more and more popular for cosmetic reasons. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2018 Toyota Highlander
You want the best, because there can be only one. But the best depends on what you're using it for or what appeals to you. Basically, I've narrowed it down to two options, and they're both from Draw-Tite. The best for actual use is part # 75896 because if you're using the hitch to tow a trailer it has a higher capacity than the other and it can be used with weight distribution which is good because you never know when that need could arise. Also, if you're going to be using the hitch...

Some hitch receivers for the 2016 Toyota Highlander will not allow the full size spare tire to be stored underneath the vehicle where it is intended. However, with the Draw-Tite Max Frame # 75896 it isn't a problem. This is a Class IV, 2 inch hitch receiver. I've attached an install video for you. If your customer also needs a wiring harness it will depend on if they have the factory tow package or not. If they do the Highlander will have a converter under the dashboard and they can...

  • Determining Towing Capacity of 2016 Toyota Highlander and Parts Needed to Tow Trailer

As you mentioned in your question, this jumps up to 5,000 pounds if the vehicle is equipped with the factory tow package. The contents of a factory tow package vary greatly between vehicle manufacturers and models, so it can be difficult to specify what exactly is included in any given package without...
