Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Installation - 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Speaker 1: Today on our 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class. We're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Head Receiver. Part number 75376.You can see the cross tube is completely hidden behind the bumper fascia. It is nice and tucked in underneath the bumper fascia, so you're not going to have to worry about hitting your legs or shins on it when loading and unloading the vehicle. It's going to be a class III, two-inch by two-inch. This most forward hole here, it's going to be 5/8-inch in diameter.

This back hole here is for a jake and stabilization device only. What that is used for is to take all the shake an rattle out of any of your hitch mount accessories. It does have ring style safety chain loops. It's going to give you plenty of room for different size safety chain hooks. You're going to have a 350 pound max tow weight, which is now more pressure on the inside of the receiver tube, you're going to have a 3500 pound max trailer weight, which the trailer plus the load included. Now, I do recommend checking your owner's manual to make sure your vehicle can withstand that amount of weight and you're going to want to pick the lowest number between the vehicle and the hitch. Now, you can use weight distribution with this hitch. Towing weight's going to go up to 400 pounds and your trailer weight's going to go up to 4000 pounds. Now let's give you a few measurements to help you in deciding on any hitch mount accessories you may need such as a ball mount and bike rack or cargo carrier.

From the center of the hitch pinhole, to the outer most part of the bumper will about five inches. From the ground to the top inner most part of the receiver tube will be about 14 inches. Now let's show you how to get this installed.First thing we need to do to start our installation is we need to get in the back of the vehicle. We're going to be removing our spare tire. Turn this center plastic piece.

We're going to set this aside. We're going to remove this.Next we're going to remove four bolts from the bottom of our bumper fascia. Next thing we're going to do is this bracket right here, we're going to need to remove it. Use the same socket, and remove that bolt right up here on the top.Next we'll take a 13 millimeter socket and we're going to remove this plastic trunk pan cover here on the bottom. We'll just set this aside for now.Next, you're going to have two nuts on each side that you're going to be removing.

These two nuts are going to the bolts that go into your bumper beam. We'll be using a 5/8 socket. We're going to have to lower the exhaust and then temporarily take down this side of the heat shield to be able to get to that nut. So we'll take a strap and we're going to go . You can go anywhere. Any where you can hook the strap to. I'm just going to go the bar here. You just want to be able to support your exhaust. We'll take a 13 millimeter socket. We're going to remove the two bolts from this hanger and you're going to have another hanger on this side and you're going to have two on the opposite side of the vehicle. Now, we'll do the same thing on the other side.Next, we'll use an eight millimeter socket. You're going to have four little nuts, just like that.Once we get our heat shield moved out of the way we'll have access to our other nut here.Next, we're going to have some rubber grounds that run across the bottom of your trunk pan. You're going to want to remove the two middle ones. You can take a screwdriver. I'm using a trim panel tool. You just pop that out like that. Now, with an extra set of hands, we'll get our hitch into place. We're going to pull out on our bumper fascia and you're going to go up, kind of inside the fascia itself and over the plastic tabs. As you can see, your hitch is going to rest on the two bolts that are sticking out from your bumper beam. You're just going to replace the two nuts that we removed.Next, we'll go ahead and tighten down our nuts from the back of our bumper beam here. We'll do that same thing on the other side.Next thing I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and torque my two bolts. My four of them, I should say, that are going to my bumper beam itself. We're going to torque them to the specifications in the instructions.Next thing we're going to do is we'll go ahead and put our heat shield back in and put our exhaust back in place. Once you have your exhaust back in place, you can go ahead and remove your safety strap.Next, we're going to put our two bolts that we removed from the bottom of our fascia. The two outside ones. We'll go ahead and put those back in. You'll have one more on the other side of the hitch. Now, we're not going to be putting the ones back in the middle because we had to remove the little plastic wishbone piece that was inside. The two holes from your rubber grommets in the bottom of your trunk pan. One's going to be right underneath your carpet here. The other one one's right on this edge. If you could just pull up on your carpet and this is a fitted piece so it'll drop back in. You're going to take your carriage bolt and you're going to take a small spacer block and you're going to want to take some silicone. What I'm going to do is I'm going to take the silicone, I'm going to go around the hole, so that when I push this down on, it'll squish the silicone around here and you'll be able to keep any water or fumes from getting inside the trunk pan.You see this matting that's underneath It's not going to let my spacer block lay flat against the bottom of the trunk pan, so what I'm going to have to do is I'm going to have to cut that out. I'm just going to take a utility knife and cut enough to where this will lay flat on the trunk pan. We're going to take our bolt head. This will take constitutes washer. Make sure the teeth are facing up toward the hitch. We're on the bottom of our bolt and we're going to follow that with a nut. We'll go ahead and get these tightened into place. We can use a 3/4 inch socket. What we're going to do for these back two holes, we're actually going to use our hitch as a template and we're going to drill holes for our next two bolts. Now, we're going to be drilling these to half inch hole. We're going to start by drilling a pilot hole first.Next, what I'm going to do is I'm going to take some clear coat and you can take some spray paint if you want and I want to cover up that bare metal to help resist any rusting or corrosion.Next thing we're going to do is we're going to repeat our same process that we did with these two bolts here for the back two. The only difference with the two holes that we just drilled is we're going to have large spacer blocks.Next, we'll torque all of our hardware to the specifications in the instructions. Start reinstalling all of our trunk accessories including our spare tire. That will do it for a look at installation on the Draw-Tite Class III Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75376 on out 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class.

Video from e-trailer made mounting the hitch a breeze, extremely helpful. Dealership wanted $900 to do it ( ya right ) looks factory mounted and fit perfect. I did have to shave the bumper near the ball hitch but It was outlined and easy. I used a Milwaukee cordless Plunger, took 30 seconds to cut 540615

Hitch has worked fine...weve used it numerous times for a bike rack, and it appears rock solid. Still glad it fit under the rear trim without cutting like some competitive models.

Easy to install. I recommend lifting the rear on jack stands just for the extra couple inches. Went on in 40 minutes including jacking the back of the car and torquing everything down. Nice product and fast shipping. 56527

Etrailer could give lessons in how e-retailers should operate! Order was placed immediately and shipment was extremely fast! I received my hitch in 3 days and at all steps I received emails notifying me of the progress. The hitch fit perfectly and instructions were extremely detailed. Even though the hitch was going on a Mercedes ML350 and Mercedes does not make accessory installations easy, this install went smoothly and looks great. 54874

The product fits perfectly. It sits a little lower than the OEM part, but thee is no interference with the bumper fascia that there would be with the dealer part. I think it is an excellent choice, and well worth the $ 32528

Great product. I was going to install the hitch on my own, but, after looking at the job at hand, decided to have a professional do the job. Glad I did. Although it was not a big job, having the right tools, a car lift and knowledge of what to do, made the job go smoothly. It looks great and was installed in 1.5 hours at a cost of $80.81. Well worth the cost. The hitch itself looks great on the car, and overall, I am quite pleased with the whole experience with etrailer. 18065

Nothings easy when you are working on a Mercedes, but I managed to install this in about 2 hours. I thought the wrong hitch was sent at first. Very little crusing involved. Sweet! 16605

2008 Mercedes ML 350

I ordered the "Hidden Hitch" trailer receiver from etrailer.com for my 2008 ML350. The ordering was easy, my hitch arrived in a very reasonable amount of time, and best of all, the shipping was FREE! The install took me more time to accomplish than was suggested in the instructions; but if I was to do it again, it would probably take the time suggested (there's always a learning curve). The hitch looks great ... and since I'm going to primarily use it for as the receiver for my bike rack, I did not go through the process of wiring for a trailer. All in all, I'm very happy. 6668
