Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Buick Rendezvous - Draw-Tite

Today in our 2006 Buick Rendezvous well be installing the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver in a Class III with a two-inch opening on the receiver, part number 75138. Heres what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. We will go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outmost edge of the bumper is approximately 5 inches. From the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 12 inches. Lets go ahead and install our hitch. Well start here underneath the rear bumper fascia at the rear of the vehicle. There are a total of five push-in retaining clips that well need to remove first.

Now that we have the push pins removed, we will move into each of the wheel wells. Theres a total of three Phillips head screws from each side that well need to remove. The bottom screw on each side can be a little difficult to get out due to how close it is to the tire. Now that weve got the three screws removed from each side, we need to raise the rear lift gate on the vehicle. Now that weve got the rear lift gate raised, theres a total of seven retaining screw fasteners that well need to take out. Theres one on each corner as well as five underneath, right along this rubber strip here.

To get these fasteners out, use a Phillips head screwdriver as well as a flat head screwdriver or a trim panel removal tool that works best. Now that weve got these fasteners out, were ready to go ahead and slide the rear bumper cover fascia off. Because this vehicle has back up sensors into it, once we start sliding the cover off we will need to unplug the backup sensors. This plug is located right here. As you start to slide the bumper cover off you will be able to get to the connection right here on the top side. To disconnect the rear back up sensor, go ahead and simply squeeze in on the locking tab and gently pull apart. Now that we have the rear bumper cover removed next youll see theres a black impact bar thats tied in with both sides of the vehicle with a total of four bolts on either side.

Well need to remove all four of these bolts from each side, for a total of eight bolts removed. We will not be reusing these bolts. We will, however, be putting the black impact bar back up into place. With the black impact bar removed we are ready to go ahead and put our hitch up into place temporarily. To hold the hitch temporarily into place, we use two of the N-10 bolts which are the black bolts that come with the kit. Well put one in on each side just to hold the hitch in place temporarily.

Next, you can see here theres a large hole thats in the center of these four bolt holes.This is where we will put the hardware into the frame for the two underside mounting locations. The hardware used here will be a half inch handle nut, a spacer block, a half inch by one and a half inch hex bolt, as well as a conical tooth washer. Through the large hole at the end of the frame, youll slide the spacer block in lining it up with one of the two holes. Its best to do the farthest hole in first, followed by setting the handle nut over the top of it. Well then go underneath and feed the half inch hex bolt through the conical tooth washer making sure the teeth are facing towards the hitch, and thread it up into the handle nut. For now, we will just hand tighten them. We will repeat this for both holes as well as both sides of the vehicle for a total of four locations. You will notice the one handle nut will want to stick out the hole a little bit. Take a pair of pliers. You can bend it up so it goes up inside the frame. As you tighten it down it will hold itself against the inside of the frame. Now that we have the hardware in place for these four attachments, we can remove the two N-10 bolts we installed earlier. You will then see that the kit comes with four black bars. All four of them are the same so it doesnt matter which one you use where. Next well need to take the black impact bar we removed earlier; were going to reinstall that. You want to take two of the bars that come with the kit; one will go on each side. Essentially the bar is taking up the space on the top side of the black impact bar that the hitch is on the underside. You will feed one of the black bars behind the top section of the black impact bar and put the N-10 bolts through the top two holes going back into the existing weld nuts. You will do this for both sides. Now for the bottom two bolts on each side, well take the other two black bars that come with the kit. Well stick them over the top of the two holes followed by putting an N-10 bolt in each location. Once you have the hardware in for both sides, we can go ahead and tighten down all twelve of the mounting locations: eight total at the back which are N-10 bolts, and four underneath which are half inch bolts. Once we have everything tightened down, well then go ahead and torque things down to the manufacturers specifications. Now that all of our hardware has been torqued, we are ready to reinstall the rear bumper fascia. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you get this rear bumper fascia back into place. When putting the bumper fascia back on, before you push it on too far, if you had to unplug your back up sensors now is the time you have to reconnect this connector. Simply slide it back into place making sure you hear the locking tab click. Now that our back up sensors are plugged back in, we can finish putting the rear bumper cover or bumper fascia back on. You will notice that there are two tabs on each side that you have to line up, as well as at the top of the bumper fascia. Once we get things lined up, well go ahead and put each of the three screws in the wheel well, followed by putting the seven screws in that go across the inner part where you have the hatch raised just underneath this rubber weather stripping. AndFinally, well put the five push pins up underneath the vehicle. Once you have that done, that will conclude our installation of the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part number 75138, on our 2006 Buick Rendezvous. .

Happy with speed of delivery and price. I am also happy with the hitch. It was one that required no drilling. Directions were pretty good overall but not quite accurate on the suv end of things. On the car end of things I had to take a number more bolts and fasteners off than described so it took longer than expected to install. Bought this to tow my boat. Installation was easy with two people. However, the rear fascia on the 2005 Aztek will not go back flush into place. Tried it with three people but i think the spacers push the impact bar out enough that it will not go back into place. and you really need to muscule it to get the pinholes aligned properly to secure thhe bumper fascia to the impact bar and wheel well.
