Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Buick Encore - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2015 Buick Encore, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver class II, part number 36554. This is what your hitch is going to look like once it's installed. As you can see, it fits up very nice around the bottom of the bumper. It's an inch and a quarter class II hitch. It's got 300 lbs of tongue weight which is the downward force and 3,500 lbs of towing capacity, which is the amount your car is going to pull. You want to check with your manufacturer to make sure your vehicle's able to pull those weights. It's a round, tubular design that's completely welded. It's got a nice flat, large diameter safety chain loops.

It's a bolt on design that does not require any drilling or welding. All the hardware is included. It uses a half inch hitch pin hole. Lets go ahead and get you some measurements to help you in choosing your accessories such as a ball mount, a cargo carrier, or a bike rack. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube is about 12 inches.

From the center of the hitch pin to the end of the bumper is about 8 inches. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our install, we're going to need to drop our exhaust system down so we have some room to slide our hitch under the frame rails. We'll start by putting a safe strap across the bottom of the car, under the exhaust, and we'll tighten it up. Then we'll go ahead and pop off the rubber grommets to hold their muffler and tail pipe onto the body. You can slide these off with a screwdriver.

If they don't come off too easy, you can take lubricant and spray them up and they'll just pop off. There's going to be a total of three of them. You'll have two back here on the muffler. We'll have one up here in the middle of the car that we'll need to get off. Just push those out of the way.

We can loosen up our safety strap and let our exhaust down so we have some room to work. On our hitch, it's going to have one brace that goes up along the side of the frame, and the other three bolts are going to attach to the bottom of the frame. This is on the driver's side. There's going to be a weld nut on the body on most of our vehicles. Some of them may not have it. You're going to have to run a block and a carriage bolt in that case. That's all covered in your instructions. Our second hole's going to go back here. Over in the passenger side, we're going to have this one at the very rear and then the next one that's going to be up from it would be that one. We're going to gain access to get our bolts through the holes into this hole right here. We'll slide our fish wire in. We're going to have to drop this line out of the way a little bit. Just be careful when you pull it down that you don't kink it. That's your brake line. Once you've got it out of the hole, place your block and your 716 00:03:18 carriage bolt on. Put it on. Push in your block and your bolt and just work into the back. Drop them out being sure to center it into the square part of the hole. Remove the fish wire. We can do the same thing for this rear hole. Same procedure. Block in first then the bolt. Now we can snap this one back into position and we'll go onto the driver's side and repeat the same process on the forward hole only. Now we'll get an extra set of hands and we can slide our hitch into place. We're going to place a conical tooth washer, teeth side up, and then a nut. I'm the one that's going to go into weld nut. There's a wedge shaped bracket that's going to fit in between. Just slide that up between. You'll take your 716 bolt, then conical tooth washer, come in from the outside. You want to tighten up the ones on the bottom first so it seats your hitch up to the bottom of the frame rail. Then we can tighten the sides. On this one, you're going to walk the side of the hitch. It's going to have to allow it to bend over and come up against that block that we placed in there. As you can see, it's tightened up and it's allowed that wedge washer to go up against the body the way it should. Now we can torque them to the specifications listed in your instructions. Now we'll slip our exhaust back into place, tighten up our safety strap, and we'll just slide the grommets back over. The rear, too. Now we can get the one in the center. That'll do it. We'll just remove our safety strap. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver class II, part number 36554 on our 2015 Buick Encore.

My trailer hitch is exactly what I expected, and I have been totally satisfied with my hitch. I pull a Yamaha Waverunner with my 2016 Buick Encore, and my hitch does a great job pulling it. I will definitely order from you again, if I need a hitch for another vehicle. 627839

Nice and solid trailer hitch. Needed a couple inexpensive tools in order to complete the job. Always make sure to watch the installation video. Makes the job so easy. This is the second trailer hitch I’ve installed. Always quick deliver and great products at a good price. 686646

Great hitch, heavy duty, love it. e-trailer is fantastic! Instructions for the install were great and the video was even better. Not sure if I wanted to do it myself but since I have purchased 3 hitches from etrailer in the past they do make it easy and clear so I thought Id give it a try. The video is what made me want to give it a try. Fishing the bolts was not too bad. I did not have to pop out brake line fastener as in video, I just slightly pushed brake line to make enough room for the head of the bolt as thats the only thing that got in the way. Thanks to another reviewers tip,I also taped the wedge washer to a paint stick to make it easy to insert between hitch and frame. If not for the great video on this web site I probally would not have given it a try, so thanks to etrailer for that. Im 58 and it took me a little over an hour, so overall not too bad. And with my sons help holding it up while I bolted it down I saved a ton of money. Thanks to everyone at etrailer for a great and very detailed web-site. 476757

The hitch fitted perfectly. I had difficulty getting the horizontal bolt started due to the awkward location. I machined a 1/4" lead at thread root diameter and made sure the threads were burr free. This allowed me to get better alignment with the chassis nut. I also taped the wedge spacer to the end of a paint stick so I could insert the spacer up between the chassis and the frame. 414919

The fit is EXACT ! Install was easy ! The entry to my garage has a slight incline so backing the car in to the point of greatest floor clearance at the rear bumper allowed for enough ground clearance to work without the need to raise the vehicle. Most difficult part was removing the rubber muffler hangers. Install the 4 bolts, torque to specs, slip the rubber muffler mounts back in place and it's done ! My install time was 30 minutes. Watching the install video is an excellent idea as it shows everything that needs to be done and how to do it. 293165

Having never installed a trailer hitch before, the video and instructions were spot on and incredibly helpful. Hitch is still as solid after a year as the day I installed it. I've towed a uhaul trailer full of furniture with no issues, this hitch is great, I would buy another in the future. 719972

I had it installed by a friend who is a mechanic, so I can't talk about ease of installation. Have had it for a year. Arrived fast, and in good condition. It is holding up well. I only use it for a bike carrier, but use it all summer long and seems to be holding up well. 621556

We purchased 4 items: the trailer hitch, adaptor to fit our 2 inch bike rack, anti rattling devise and a lock so we don't loose the bike with the rack. Customer service was outstanding in recommending each product that would specifically fit my Buick Encore. I will submit a picture since I didn't see anything posted for the 2019. Buick would have cut the bottom of the bumper which I assume would lift the rack a bit higher. Our bike rack is really meant for a larger vehicle. The Buick rack would most likely be a bit smaller. I have bottomed out on the rack, not the hitch. Overall, it's worked out well and we're able to carry our bikes. 590873

2017 Buick Encore

I purchased this Class II hitch for my 2017 Buick Encore to carry a bike rack. I also ordered a 2-bike Hollywood hitch mounted bike rack from etrailer.com. Both arrived the same day in good condition. However the hitch had broken through the box in a couple of places and paint was scuffed down to bare metal on one small spot. I brushed some black enamel over that one spot and you can't tell it was ever there. Otherwise the hitch arrived in good condition with all the parts necessary for installation. I haven't had the hitch installed yet, but I have no doubt it'll fit as advertised. Good hitch for the money. 388211

The DrawTite receiver hitch is flawlessly designed and finished. The fit for this hitch was excellent on my 2020 Chevrolet Trax. Install was very quick and straight forward. The little bit of trouble I had was getting that wedge spacer in between the frame and the hitch on the driver's side. My big hand was not meant to position this spacer in that narrow of a space. Problem solved by placing the wedge spacer on an extendable magnet tool. Install time was 43 minutes. This hitch will serve nicely to position a tow dolly to various spots. The install video from E-Trailer was excellent. 767527

Well, to begin, I am 74 years old and my wife is 70. This was a project for both of us. It took about an hour and a half. Most of the time was figuring. The fit was perfect. The directions were a little hard but the online video was great. The most difficult part was removing the exhaust brackets, but we got it. The hitch looks good on my 2015 Trax and I hope it will give us years of use. Now for the electrical: Again the TouTube video was great. If not for that, I would have sent it back. One I got the back end of the car torn out, the wires plugged right in. Very easy hook-up. I am sure glad my wife was gone for this part. About an hour and a half for this but a lot of time spent watching video to see how to take the car apart. No fault of e-trailer. Its just how cars are made. Than you etrailer. This is my 4th hitch from you and probably my last. Keep up the good work. 767334

Easy installation make sure you watch all the videos on installing this hitch and you won't have a bit of problems. Once installed the receiver is only around 12" from ground so you will probably have to get a swing up receiver tow bar. They make them different heights depending on what you are toeing. • Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Hitch Cargo Carrier on 2015 Buick Encore for Mobility Scooter
For your 2015 Buick Encore you can haul a 90 lb scooter when using the correct parts. I recommend starting with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36554. This is a class II hitch which has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening and is rated for up to 300 lbs tongue weight. I then recommend the hitch expander # C45785 which will reduce your tongue weight to 150 lbs but when used with the MaxxTow 27x47 Cargo Carrier w/ Pivoting Ramp # MT70100 which weights 54 lbs, when you add your 90 lb...

The 2019 Chevy Trax is rated for towing and we do have the Draw Tite hitch part # 36554 that fits this vehicle that has a 3,500 lb towing capacity which would be more than enough for a log splitter. Your vehicle looks to have a towing capacity of between 1,500 and 3,500 lbs depending on how it's equipped as well. Then for trailer wiring you'd want the part # 118659 for if you have an LS model or the part # 118751 for if you have an LT or a Premier. Then for a ball mount you'd want...

I've linked a video of when we installed this hitch on a 2015 Chevrolet Trax that shows the measurement. • Recommended Cargo Carrier with Class II Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver on a 2015 Chevrolet Trax
First of all good choice on the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36554. It's what I would have recommended if that had been your question. With the Draw-Tite installed on a 2015 Chevrolet Trax there is about 7 inches from the hitch pin hole to the edge of the vehicle's fascia. This is why of the three you mention I would pick the Curt # C18110. It has 3-3/4 inches of rise which you mentioned you like and there is 6-3/4 inches from the hitch pin hole to the beginning of the rise...

  • Does Access Hole On 2015 Chevrolet Trax Need To Be Enlarged For Trailer Hitch Installation
Per the attached instructions for the Draw-Tite Hitch, part # 36554 there is no mention of enlarging the access hole. If you are planning on towing with your Trax I recommend a ball mount like part # 36061. This has a 3-1/8 inch rise and uses a ball with a 3/4 inch shank diameter like part # 19258 for a 2 inch hitch ball and part # 19257 for a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball. If you need trailer wiring I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part #...

  • Is Drawbar, Hitch Pin, and Clip Needed to Use a Trailer Hitch to Carry Bikes on a 2013 Buick Encore
The drawbar (also known as a ball mount or stinger) fits into the trailer hitch receiver and gets fitted with a ball. This would be used to tow a trailer. If you never plan on using the 2013 Buick Encore for towing then you will not need a ball mount or ball. Most hitch accessories like bike racks come with a hitch pin or thread hitch bolt so a pin may not be needed either. A regular hitch pin, like # PC2, is held into place with the included clip which is similar to a cotter pin. It...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2016 Chevrolet Trax
The information we get for vehicle towing capacity is done with research of the vehicle and the owner's manuals. For yoru 2016 Trax on page 229 of the owner's manual it states the vehicle is neither designed nor intended to tow a trailer. With that being said, many folks will tow with the vehicle anyway so we do have items like trailer hitches and wiring available. Trailer hitches can be installed so you can use them for items like cargo baskets, bike racks. The trailer hitch I recommend...

  • Are Spacers and Bevel (Conical) Washers Included with the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36554
The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 36554 comes with all of the hardware in the attached installation video on a 2017 Buick Encore including the spacers and bevel (or conical) washers. I have attached a picture of the included hardware so that you can see that it is included. Please note that this trailer hitch is only confirmed to fit the following vehicles: 2013 - 2018 Buick Encore 2013 - 2018 Chevrolet Trax If you have a different vehicle let me know the year/make/model...

  • Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2015 Buick Encore
At the time the answer you are referring to was written, Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 36554 was not a confirmed fit for the 2015 Buick Encore. They have since tested it and it is now a confirmed fit for 2013 to 2015 Buick Encores. If you plan on towing with the hitch the correct ball mount is # 36071. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. And for trailer wiring you can use # 118588 to add a 4-Way flat connector.

  • Hidden Hitch or Draw Tite Hitch for a 2016 Chevy Trax
The Hidden Hitch 90244 and the Draw Tite part # 36554 that you referenced are actually the same hitch as they are made by the same company. The only difference is that the Hidden Hitch comes with a ball mount and the Draw Tite does not. There are only fixed carriers available for 1-1/4 inch hitches like what is available for you 2016 Trax. The Curt part # C18145 is the most popular option we have but it is not a folding carrier. I don't recommend the use of a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch...
