Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Buick Encore - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2015 Buick Encore, we're going to be taking a look at and installing the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver class II, part number 36554. This is what your hitch is going to look like once it's installed. As you can see, it fits up very nice around the bottom of the bumper. It's an inch and a quarter class II hitch. It's got 300 lbs of tongue weight which is the downward force and 3,500 lbs of towing capacity, which is the amount your car is going to pull. You want to check with your manufacturer to make sure your vehicle's able to pull those weights. It's a round, tubular design that's completely welded. It's got a nice flat, large diameter safety chain loops.

It's a bolt on design that does not require any drilling or welding. All the hardware is included. It uses a half inch hitch pin hole. Lets go ahead and get you some measurements to help you in choosing your accessories such as a ball mount, a cargo carrier, or a bike rack. From the ground to the top of the receiver tube is about 12 inches.

From the center of the hitch pin to the end of the bumper is about 8 inches. Now let's go ahead and show you how to install it. To begin our install, we're going to need to drop our exhaust system down so we have some room to slide our hitch under the frame rails. We'll start by putting a safe strap across the bottom of the car, under the exhaust, and we'll tighten it up. Then we'll go ahead and pop off the rubber grommets to hold their muffler and tail pipe onto the body. You can slide these off with a screwdriver.

If they don't come off too easy, you can take lubricant and spray them up and they'll just pop off. There's going to be a total of three of them. You'll have two back here on the muffler. We'll have one up here in the middle of the car that we'll need to get off. Just push those out of the way.

We can loosen up our safety strap and let our exhaust down so we have some room to work. On our hitch, it's going to have one brace that goes up along the side of the frame, and the other three bolts are going to attach to the bottom of the frame. This is on the driver's side. There's going to be a weld nut on the body on most of our vehicles. Some of them may not have it. You're going to have to run a block and a carriage bolt in that case. That's all covered in your instructions. Our second hole's going to go back here. Over in the passenger side, we're going to have this one at the very rear and then the next one that's going to be up from it would be that one. We're going to gain access to get our bolts through the holes into this hole right here. We'll slide our fish wire in. We're going to have to drop this line out of the way a little bit. Just be careful when you pull it down that you don't kink it. That's your brake line. Once you've got it out of the hole, place your block and your 716 00:03:18 carriage bolt on. Put it on. Push in your block and your bolt and just work into the back. Drop them out being sure to center it into the square part of the hole. Remove the fish wire. We can do the same thing for this rear hole. Same procedure. Block in first then the bolt. Now we can snap this one back into position and we'll go onto the driver's side and repeat the same process on the forward hole only. Now we'll get an extra set of hands and we can slide our hitch into place. We're going to place a conical tooth washer, teeth side up, and then a nut. I'm the one that's going to go into weld nut. There's a wedge shaped bracket that's going to fit in between. Just slide that up between. You'll take your 716 bolt, then conical tooth washer, come in from the outside. You want to tighten up the ones on the bottom first so it seats your hitch up to the bottom of the frame rail. Then we can tighten the sides. On this one, you're going to walk the side of the hitch. It's going to have to allow it to bend over and come up against that block that we placed in there. As you can see, it's tightened up and it's allowed that wedge washer to go up against the body the way it should. Now we can torque them to the specifications listed in your instructions. Now we'll slip our exhaust back into place, tighten up our safety strap, and we'll just slide the grommets back over. The rear, too. Now we can get the one in the center. That'll do it. We'll just remove our safety strap. That's going to do it for our look at and install of the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver class II, part number 36554 on our 2015 Buick Encore.

The fit is EXACT ! Install was easy ! The entry to my garage has a slight incline so backing the car in to the point of greatest floor clearance at the rear bumper allowed for enough ground clearance to work without the need to raise the vehicle. Most difficult part was removing the rubber muffler hangers. Install the 4 bolts, torque to specs, slip the rubber muffler mounts back in place and it's done ! My install time was 30 minutes. Watching the install video is an excellent idea as it shows everything that needs to be done and how to do it. 293165

Great hitch, heavy duty, love it. e-trailer is fantastic! Instructions for the install were great and the video was even better. Not sure if I wanted to do it myself but since I have purchased 3 hitches from etrailer in the past they do make it easy and clear so I thought Id give it a try. The video is what made me want to give it a try. Fishing the bolts was not too bad. I did not have to pop out brake line fastener as in video, I just slightly pushed brake line to make enough room for the head of the bolt as thats the only thing that got in the way. Thanks to another reviewers tip,I also taped the wedge washer to a paint stick to make it easy to insert between hitch and frame. If not for the great video on this web site I probally would not have given it a try, so thanks to etrailer for that. Im 58 and it took me a little over an hour, so overall not too bad. And with my sons help holding it up while I bolted it down I saved a ton of money. Thanks to everyone at etrailer for a great and very detailed web-site. 476757

2017 Buick Encore

I purchased this Class II hitch for my 2017 Buick Encore to carry a bike rack. I also ordered a 2-bike Hollywood hitch mounted bike rack from etrailer.com. Both arrived the same day in good condition. However the hitch had broken through the box in a couple of places and paint was scuffed down to bare metal on one small spot. I brushed some black enamel over that one spot and you can't tell it was ever there. Otherwise the hitch arrived in good condition with all the parts necessary for installation. I haven't had the hitch installed yet, but I have no doubt it'll fit as advertised. Good hitch for the money. 388211

According to the car factory I'm not supposed To pull anything with my 2015 Buick Encore Any way I installed but I haven't used yet Probably I won't be able to pull a 10' feet trailer With it, but in the near future I will connect A metal basket to carry something . Thanks for asking. 479893

The hitch fitted perfectly. I had difficulty getting the horizontal bolt started due to the awkward location. I machined a 1/4" lead at thread root diameter and made sure the threads were burr free. This allowed me to get better alignment with the chassis nut. I also taped the wedge spacer to the end of a paint stick so I could insert the spacer up between the chassis and the frame. 414919

Ford Transit Connect

I received my trailer hitch on the day indicated but was shocked at the condition of the box, it was totally trashed with huge holes at both ends. Was concerned that the smaller pieces had fallen out & been lost in transit. Was VERY relieved & happy that the hitch was unharmed & all the nuts & bolts were in a sealed, heavy-duty plastic bag & firmly attached to the hitch receiver...nothing missing! My car dealership attached the bike-rack hitch to my car with no trouble at all. They were very pleased that it fit exactly as described on the etrailer website & was very easily installed using the hardware provided. The receiver is visible below the bumper but a bit recessed & in no way interferes with using the hatch to get into the back of my SUV. Will attach the new bike rack this Saturday & hope that all goes well. So far the entire process from purchase to car attach has gone very smoothly & just as the etrailer.com service tech Bill P. said that it would. Very pleased!!! If the bike-rack doesn't fit the hitch as advertised, I'll write a second review but for now the 5-star rating definitely fits my experience with etrailer.com, Bill P.'s purchase assistance, & the installation process. THANKS Bill P. & etrailer.com! 450101

Watch the install videos before installing hitch and wiring harness. Nice to have a helper handing tools if working under car ramps. Saved about $150 in installation fees by doing it myself. I did feel install was moderately difficult, though glad i did it 644132

The hitch was an exact fit for a Chevy Trax 2015. Instruction video was a big help, but I left the bolt pulling wires on the bolts and threaded them through the hole in the hitch before removing them one by one, while placing the nuts on. It took me less than an hour, by myself, including time to double check the video for hole placement. I didn't have the need to remove the exhaust support, toward the center of the vehicle, as shown in the video. The hitch arrived a little scuffed up do to the lack of packing, but was delivered very fast. This is the fourth hitch I ordered and installed from E-trailer in the last 10 years, will do again. 593657

Took me about an hour and a half to install on my 2015 Buick Encore. The things that hung me up were getting the exhaust supports unhooked [after I hit them with some WD40 they slid right out, so be sure to do that], and getting the side bolt wedge piece. After about 20 minutes I finally put the wedge on with some tape and then it was a piece of cake, so just do that while its out from under the car. The kit is really well put together, fit perfectly, and they include extra bolts, nuts, and washers, as well as the "fishing wire" pieces with springs to hold onto the bolts. It's very well designed. 592702

We purchased 4 items: the trailer hitch, adaptor to fit our 2 inch bike rack, anti rattling devise and a lock so we don't loose the bike with the rack. Customer service was outstanding in recommending each product that would specifically fit my Buick Encore. I will submit a picture since I didn't see anything posted for the 2019. Buick would have cut the bottom of the bumper which I assume would lift the rack a bit higher. Our bike rack is really meant for a larger vehicle. The Buick rack would most likely be a bit smaller. I have bottomed out on the rack, not the hitch. Overall, it's worked out well and we're able to carry our bikes. 590873

Perfect fit to our 2014 Encore. Followed the procedure of the video and it took about an hour. I worked on the floor with the car on ramps. When you put the final bolt in, the one that fits a threaded hole, the other three bolts need to be loose finger tight. The hitch needs to be able to move around a little as you slide that final spacer in. That's the one taped to the top of a paint stick. I had everything finger tight without any movement on my first try. Did not work. Keep it movable until all four bolts are started. 566290

We purchased the Draw-tite Class II hitch for our 2017 Buick Encore. We chose it for two reasons: 1. It was the heavier duty of the two choices, it can pull 3500 LBS and has a 300 LBS tongue weight 2. It had the easiest installation. The install videos are spot on, I can't add anything more. I did on my back on my driveway, took less than an hour. We bought it to move our tow dolly from place to place. All the parts were in the box no extra parts required. I would highly recommend it. 548267

I have received my hitch with minor problems, as the box looked like it was in a war zone all torn up in multiple places. Besides being stapled all over the place, one side must have came open in route as it was taped a lot before delivery to my address. However, with that being said, I am well pleased with the product itself. I am currently taking off my muffler to get my hitch on to my car. 506297

Watched the video for installation on my vehicle and it helped a lot. Once I got the exhaust dropped down, it went pretty fast. All parts fit to install it, just a little tight to get my GlideAway bike carrier into the receiver. Took a lot of grease and jiggling. I just hope the parts do not rust quickly here in the northwest. But overall, a good buy. I recommend it. 503218

  • Do Trailer Hitch Receivers for 2017 Chevrolet Trax Include a Wiring Harness
  • We do have two trailer hitch receivers to fit your 2017 Chevrolet Trax: a Curt # C11527 and a Draw-Tite # 36554. Neither of them include a wiring harness. As of right now we only carry one wiring harness for your Trax, the Tekonsha # 118751. It plugs into a factory connector that's in your rear cargo area under the floor cover and some interior paneling. Then you'll need to run a wire to the Trax's battery through the included fuse holder. The fuse is included as well. This harness...

The recommended ball mount for you is # 36061 which includes a pin and clip. Then for a hitch ball use either # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or # 19257 for a 1-7/8 inch.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Chevy Trax
  • If I were you I would install the Draw Tite Hitch part # 36554 on your 2016 Chevy Trax as it is the most recessed under the bumper which means it would be the most concealed and if you ever needed to carry a bike rack you wouldn't have to use a stabilizer strap like what the Curt hitch requires. Install between the two would be basically the exact same. One would not be easier to install than the other. The most popular bike rack we carry that has been confirmed to fit this vehicle...

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2019 Chevy Trax for Carrying Bike Rack
  • For your 2019 Chevy Trax the Draw Tite hitch part # 36554 is the best option as unlike the Curt that fits your vehicle it does not require a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached an install video for more info for you to check out as well. My favorite 2 bike rack is the Saris Freedom SuperClamp part # SA4025F because it's a platform bike rack which means it's easy to load/unload, it's light weight at only 30 lbs, it's made in the USA, and it...

  • Trailer Hitch and Enclosed Cargo Carrier for a 2014 Buick Encore
  • First, for a trailer hitch, I recommend Draw-Tite hitch # 36554 for your 2014 Buick Encore. This is a Class II hitch so it will be compatible with a hitch mounted cargo carrier. But once the hitch is installed it will measure approximately 8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole back to clear the rear bumper of the vehicle. The Transporter only sticks out about 7-5/8 inches so it would make contact with the rear of the vehicle. The best option is Rola enclosed cargo carrier #...
