Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Lincoln MKS

Speaker 1: Today on our 2015 Lincoln MKS we're going to be installing the Draw-Tite Class 2 one and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver. This is what it's going to look like installed on your vehicle. As you can see the cross bar is hidden beneath the bumper. So you're really only going to see the receiver tube and safety chains. So it won't distract from the looks of the vehicle. This class two receiver is going to be great for hooking up bike racks and cargo carriers with a one and a quarter inch shank, and for light towing. It uses a half inch hitch pin.

While this is not included with the kit you can get one here at etrailer.com using part number PC2.It features loop style safety chain holes, which is a nice wide opening that'll work with many different size safety chains. It has a 300 pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver. And a 3500 pound gross towing capacity, which is the amount that it can pull behind it. Now, you do want to check your vehicles owners manual to make sure you're not exceeding its towing capacities. To help you when deciding on accessories I've got a few measurements for you. From the ground to the top inside edge of the receiving tube it's going to measure about 14 and a quarter inches.

This is important when deciding if you need a raised shank for your bike rack or cargo carrier, or a drop or rise for your trailer. And from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back edge of the bumper it's going to measure about four inches. This is helpful when choosing any folding accessories and if you're able to put it in its upright storage position. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's show you how to get it installed. To begin our installation we'll need to lower down our exhaust. Before you lower your exhaust you're going to want to support it so as not to cause any damage.

We'll run a strap around our lower control arms. And that'll secure them to prevent them from falling too far and causing any damage. Next we'll need to remove the exhaust hangers located near your muffler tip there. You want to use some spray lubricant to make it easier to pry them off. Then take a pry bar and just pry the rubber off.

And we'll repeat that on the other side. We'll then need to remove the two rubber exhaust hangers towards the front of the vehicle, just behind the spare tire pan. This will allow us to access the bolts that we need to remove. Now we'll need to remove the exhaust hangers on both sides. On your passenger side you'll remove them with an 18 millimeter socket. And on the driver's side you'll remove it with a 10 millimeter socket. Now we'll take the bracket that we removed on the driver's side, that one had the two 10 millimeter head bolts, and we'll need to trim some off as we're going to have to re-install this bracket in a later step. We'll be trimming off the small angled end so it will fit flush against our hitch receiver when we re-install it. You can cut this off with a sawzall or a cutting wheel. We're going to use an electric one, an air powered one will work as well. Once you've got that cut off it's a good idea to take some black spray paint and give it a nice little coat so that way it'll prevent any corrosion. We can now set this aside as we're not going to be installing it until a later step. We'll now take our smaller coiled wire and we'll run it through the elongated hole in front of the bolt holes where we removed our hanger. Feed it back to the larger hole and pull it through. I like to bend the end just to prevent it from falling back out. We can now take our small spacer, slide it over our coiled end and push it up into the frame rail. And take one of our smaller carriage bolts and thread it onto the coiled wire. Now pull that back through and down through our hole. We'll repeat this same process on the other side. Then on our driver's side only we're going to take our larger coiled wire, our larger spacer and our larger carriage bolt thread that onto the wire, push it up into the frame rail followed by the spacer and then pull it back down. Now, with an extra set of hands we'll set our hitch up into place feeding our fish wire down through the appropriate holes. Line it up with our bolts, thread off your coiled wire. Thread the appropriate sized conical tooth washer. We'll use the larger washer with the teeth facing up towards the hitch. And then we'll thread our nut into place. Again, this is the larger nut because it's the larger bolt. Once you've got one bolt started on each side, it'll hold itself into place making it easier to install the rest of your hardware. We'll then take our exhaust brackets and re-install those. While here on the passenger side we're going to use the larger black bolts. We'll go through the bracket and thread it back up into our existing weld that's in the frame. We'll then install our driver's side. Our driver's side bracket's going to be the one that we trimmed. And we'll install it using the smaller black bolts provided in the kit that have a built in washer. We can now go back and tighten down all our hardware. Your small carriage bolts and nuts will tighten down with an 11/16ths inch socket. Your large carriage bolt and nut will tighten down with a 19 millimeter socket. Your driver's side exhaust bracket bolts will tighten down with a 13 millimeter socket. Now we can go back and torque all of our hardware for the specifications in our instructions.Re-install your exhaust hangers. Use a little lubricant and simply slide it right back on to the brackets that we slid them off of. Do that for the remaining three. On the passenger side it may be necessary to remove the hanger from the muffler, install it onto the vehicle side bracket and then install it back onto the muffler. Now let's take our strap down and we're ready to hook up our favorite accessory and hit the road. And that completes our installation of the Draw-Tite Class 2 one and a quarter inch trailer hitch receiver on our 2015 Lincoln MKS.

2013 Lincoln MKS

As a previous customer of etrailer this was my first and only stop once I decided I wanted a receiver for my 2013 Lincoln MKS. The shipping is always fast and instructions are clear. In the rare event I needed to contact support in the past, response time has been good and the folks at etrailer went out of their way to help me out. I only plan to use this receiver to allow use of my bike carrier so I did not install any trailer light wiring so I cannot comment on the ease of installation of that, but I can say the receiver installation went very smoothly, even doing this by myself. The most time-consuming part of the installation is one of the tailpipe hanger brackets needs to have an alignment tab cut off of it. The bracket is easy to remove, but cutting the tab off takes some time. I also painted the newly exposed bare metal and had to wait for that to dry before reinstalling. If not for that, I'm not sure the installation would have even taken 45 minutes solo. 658682

Trailer hitch delivered on time. Price great and free shipping. Instruction video helped greatly with the installation, it was really quite easy, but could have tricky without video and custom hardware. Somone at E trailer put considerable thought into details to help this job go smoothly, I did not need extra hands, did project myself thanks to great detail thought of this product and the installation process, THANKS! 133520

Lincoln MKS

I was surprised a hitch would be available for a Lincoln MKS. We wanted one primarily on which to mount a bike rack, yet I have pulled my trailer with it (don't tell my wife!). Installation would have been much easier with another pair of hands. Nonetheless it mounted perfectly and bolted up without a hitch (pun intended). You can see from the photo that only the receiver shows below the bumper fascia. 59979

Im quite certain the hitch made our MKS highly desirable as a used car, which explains the dealer phoning us after only a few days that our trade-in was sold. Our new car is a Cadillac SRX, which is also sporting a Draw-Tite hitch.

I have also included a link to a video showing an installation for you. If you plan on doing some towing the correct ball mount is # C45016. For a 1-7/8 inch ball...
